Mark: You and your compatriots on P2P view the world from revisionism. Go ahead and keep looking through your microscope-provided by your "teachers." Or take the time and read some very old documented evidence available at a library near you= but you may need to stay there awhile on microfiche. -----Original Message----- From: Mark Janssen Sent: Sunday, October 23, 2011 4:39 PM To: P2P Foundation mailing list Subject: Re: [P2P-F] Fw: Info On Sun, Oct 23, 2011 at 10:32 AM, Natalie Golovin <10natalie(a)cox.net> wrote: > The European Tribes treated the Natives no worse than they treated each > other. Whoa. You should really stop talking. You have NO idea what you're talking about. How about forced acculturation, not allowing them to speak their own language (which hold the record of their own history), confined them under threat of violent force into reservations, among other things. But, really, that's probably not even the worst of it -- the worst of it is that for reasons they couldn't ever understand is why you were doing all of these cruel things when they were willing to share it it all with you. Why, when they handed out their hand to be friends, you chopped it off. Remember, they're the ones who gave us Thanksgiving which is still "celebrated" in this nation today. Read the reports made of making first contact with the Native peoples here. You really should read up before propagating the attitudes of conquest. the Internet Blueprint: grassroots suggestions for reforming U.S.Internet law
by Franco Iacomella 01 Mar '12

Hi, forwarding the e-mail below. Should the P2P-F endorse the proposal? Best, Franco. -------- Mensaje original -------- Asunto: [A2k] the Internet Blueprint: grassroots suggestions for reforming U.S.Internet law Fecha: Tue, 28 Feb 2012 12:43:03 -0500 De: Sherwin Siy <ssiy(a)publicknowledge.org> Today Public Knowledge is excited to announce The Internet Blueprint, hosted at internetblueprint.org. The Internet Blueprint is an attempt to put forward a positive agenda post SOPA and PIPA. Please feel free to go to the site and poke around, but let me give you a quick overview of the site. The first thing you will see on the site is a list of proposals. These go beyond general statements, and include detailed descriptions and actual bill text. Going forward, they will also contain icons for Congressional champions, along with organization and company endorsers. Scrolling down, there is also an opportunity for members of the public to suggest additions to the site. Anyone can create an account and propose an addition. Then the public can upvote the ones they like. If the proposal gets enough support, they will be considered for inclusion in the formal list of proposals. Also, hopefully, some of the organizations on this list will consider endorsing one (or more than one) specific proposal on the site. There is more information here: http://www.publicknowledge.org/blog/introducing-internet-blueprint And, of course, here: www.internetblueprint.org So please take a look and let us know what you think. Also, if you would like to endorse a proposal and have your logo displayed on the site, please let me know. Thanks, Sherwin Sherwin Siy Deputy Legal Director Public Knowledge www.publicknowledge.org 202.861.0020 1818 N St. NW, Suite 410 Washington, DC 20036 _______________________________________________ A2k mailing list A2k(a)lists.keionline.org http://lists.keionline.org/mailman/listinfo/a2k_lists.keionline.org

Thanks Richard. This is interesting. It made me check for Belgium, and indeed, the notes can still be exchanged. In Belgium it is also possible to exchange old notes, but not old coins. ( http://www.nbb.be/pub/faq/R2Q01.htm?l=fr ) In some other countries, such as Germany or Spain, there is no limit to the exchange of coins and notes. Comparison table : http://www.ecb.int/euro/exchange/html/index.en.html I imagine this can open up an opportunity in some of these countries to encourage people to use their old notes to support through consumption, or to invest, in localized economics, eventually community empowered / managed / operated / owned businesses ( cooperatives ) ? Apparently, it is estimated at an equivalent of 1,8 Billion Euros, in pesetas, for Spain. How much would it be for Germany, or Belgium ? /// http://www.ecb.int/euro/exchange/html/index.en.html Some central banks have set a time limit for the exchange of national banknotes and coinsCountryExchange of banknotes untilExchange of coins until Belgiumunlimited31 December 2004GermanyunlimitedunlimitedEstoniaunlimited unlimitedIrelandunlimitedunlimitedGreece1 March 20121 March 2004Spain unlimitedunlimitedFrance17 February 201217 February 2005Italy6 December 20116 December 2011Cyprus31 December 201731 December 2009Luxembourgunlimited31 December 2004Malta31 January 20181 February 2010The Netherlands (1)1 January 20321 January 2007AustriaunlimitedunlimitedPortugal28 February 202231 December 2002Sloveniaunlimited31 December 2016Slovakiaunlimited31 December 2013Finland29 February 201229 February 2012 (1) De Nederlandsche Bank will not exchange guilders in every case. Fw: Urgent: after 3 days on Shell's Arctic-bound rig, activists arrested
by robert searle 28 Feb '12

28 Feb '12

----- Forwarded Message ----- From: "Ben Ayliffe, Greenpeace" <mail(a)mail.greenpeace.org.uk> To: dharao4(a)yahoo.co.uk Sent: Monday, 27 February 2012, 14:32 Subject: Urgent: after 3 days on Shell's Arctic-bound rig, activists arrested Lucy and the team are now off the drill ship, but you can still tell Shell to keep out of the Arctic. Hi friends After an epic 77-hour-marathon occupying Shell's Arctic bound drill ship, Lucy, Viv, Ilai, Shai, Ra, Mike and Shayne have all been arrested and forced to come down. But you can still help. Join more than 140,000 people telling Shell to keep out of the Arctic: Tell Shell's bosses their oil rigs have no place in Arctic waters Three days up there bracing themselves against the extreme winds, short on food and water it's been a rough ride for Lucy and the team. But they've been spurred on by your incredible support - an unprecedented wave of solidarity from around the world calling on Shell to stay out of the Arctic. We know drilling in Arctic waters is madness. The seasonal ice and the remoteness of the region make oil drilling in the area a reckless gamble with the local environment - home to polar bears, narwhals and other vulnerable species. All the independent scientists say a spill would be impossible to clean up. But to add insult to injury, Shell and others are cashing in on the problem they caused in the first place. The same dirty energy companies that caused the Arctic to warm are now rushing in to make money off the oil under the melting ice. We have to stop it. Our brave friends showed what it means to take non-violent action and put your body in the way of environmental harm. But they're not on their own - thousands of you have been taking action with them online. People across the UK have been visiting Shell garages to deliver letters. Lucy's last tweet before being arrested sums it all up: "Seven of us came up the tower on Shell's drill ship but 4 days later 130,000 will come down. In solidarity we can save the Arctic." Lucy and the team may be arrested, but that doesn't stop us from taking action. Let's see if we can make it to 250,000 people calling on Shell to stay out of the Arctic: Email Shell's bosses now and tell them the Arctic is off-limits It's been an amazing achievement by the activists on the rig to stop Shell for so long but it's now down to the rest of us to continue the pressure. Fw: Beyond Firm-Level Sustainable Capitalism
by robert searle 28 Feb '12

----- Forwarded Message ----- From: John Fullerton <jfullerton(a)capitalinstitute.org> To: Robert Searle <dharao4(a)yahoo.co.uk> Sent: Monday, 27 February 2012, 23:15 Subject: Beyond Firm-Level Sustainable Capitalism To forward this email, click here. Beyond Firm-Level Sustainable Capitalism by John Fullerton and Peter Malik, Director, Center for Market Innovation, NRDC Generation Investment Management’s recently released white paper calls for a “paradigm shift” to Sustainable Capitalism. It is an admirable and important contribution to the discussion about how to make individual firms more sustainable. Beyond this effort, we need the sustainable business community to join the ongoing systems level conversation about how to make the whole global economy truly sustainable, not merely less unsustainable. Without such a systemic shift, the sum of individual firm sustainability efforts will not translate into sustainable capitalism. Read more at the Future of Finance Blog. A Conversation with Steve Waygood of Aviva Investors Capital Institute spoke recently with Steve Waygood, Head of Sustainability Research at Aviva Investors, to learn more about the advocacy work the global asset management company has undertaken to advance the cause of more transparent reporting and management of sustainability risk. Waygood also talked about how Aviva Investors has embedded sustainability practices into its own operations, his broad concerns about the flawed methodologies that are currently used to value corporate assets and profitability, as well as the role both policymakers and the private sector need to play in addressing those flaws. “The market is an engine that can create positive value,” says Waygood, “but in motivating action that destroys the environment it can also turn into destructiveness for the economy and humanity.” Read more about our conversation with Steve Waygood here. ________________________________ European Systemic Risk Board Warned of Carbon Risk Last week, John Fullerton added his signature to a letter Ben Caldecott of Climate Change Capital drafted to the European Systemic Risk Board. The aim is to collect signatures from academics, politicians, financiers and investors, raising the issue of the exposure of European financial institutions to carbon-intensive sectors and the potentially adverse impact on the financial health of investing institutions, with serious consequences for the function of the financial system possible. A similar letter was recently addressed to Mervyn King, Governor of the Bank of England. See the draft letter here. What We're Reading Al Gore and David Blood's Generation Investment Management has released a new report this week on the future of finance - and capitalism itself - in a sustainable world. With this report, Gore and Blood are pointing toward the innovation our financial tools need. Sustainable Capitalism ________________________________ Comment of the Week "We have long been sliding down the slippery slope of (1) "human exceptionalism" from honest accounting of natural capital and (2) a sense of "entitlement" to evermore cheap energy. You have correctly and logically called for the only responsible action here: draw a line in the sand - on that oil-slicked slippery slope - and begin the hard work on the transition to a sustainable energy economy." -Gerry Todd, Ending the Keystone Debate ________________________________ Quote of the Week "The Occupiers feel that capitalism and corporate-influenced governments have, for the time being, let them down.
