Mark: You and your compatriots on P2P view the world from revisionism. Go ahead and keep looking through your microscope-provided by your "teachers." Or take the time and read some very old documented evidence available at a library near you= but you may need to stay there awhile on microfiche. -----Original Message----- From: Mark Janssen Sent: Sunday, October 23, 2011 4:39 PM To: P2P Foundation mailing list Subject: Re: [P2P-F] Fw: Info On Sun, Oct 23, 2011 at 10:32 AM, Natalie Golovin <10natalie(a)cox.net> wrote: > The European Tribes treated the Natives no worse than they treated each > other. Whoa. You should really stop talking. You have NO idea what you're talking about. How about forced acculturation, not allowing them to speak their own language (which hold the record of their own history), confined them under threat of violent force into reservations, among other things. But, really, that's probably not even the worst of it -- the worst of it is that for reasons they couldn't ever understand is why you were doing all of these cruel things when they were willing to share it it all with you. Why, when they handed out their hand to be friends, you chopped it off. Remember, they're the ones who gave us Thanksgiving which is still "celebrated" in this nation today. Read the reports made of making first contact with the Native peoples here. You really should read up before propagating the attitudes of conquest. Sorry.... marcos _______________________________________________ P2P Foundation - Mailing list http://www.p2pfoundation.net https://lists.ourproject.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/p2p-foundation

Nigel Begin forwarded message: *From: *"l.rubinstein(a)uva.nl" <l.rubinstein(a)uva.nl> *Subject: **[Website feedback] MOOR: massive online open research* *Date: *28 March 2014 10:38:18 GMT *To: *"admin(a)p2pvalue.eu" <admin(a)p2pvalue.eu> Liza Rubinstein (l.rubinstein(a)uva.nl) sent a message using the contact form at http://www.p2pvalue.eu/contact. Dear P2P Value, We are emailing you to inform you of a project the University of Amsterdam is working on. Also, we would like to ask you if you know of similar projects or of parties that might be interested to learn more about our activities. MOOR (massive online open research) is a project which seeks to create software so that qualitative research can be performed open, online and collaboratively. Specifically, we are looking for ways to discuss and draw conclusions about data materials (such as text and imagery) collaboratively. The goals of the project are to work with large sets of data which are already available but cannot be processed with small research teams, to generate a broader perspective on this data by engaging a diverse set of people and to create a platform where people can learn about and contribute to this lesser known field of scientific research. As far as we know, there is no common based peer production software that allows to both discuss the content of primary documents ánd create overview/insight into the discussion. But we are curious to hear what you know of. As I think this description might be quite abstract let me give you an example of a project we would like to be able to perform: What does it mean when we talk about 'political trust'? This is a topic widely discussed in the Netherlands, but the way it is measured is quite poorly developed. The Netherlands Institute of Social Research has a dataset (text) available of people explaining what they mean by political trust. At the moment it is impossible to study all of this material: we do not have the human capacity and computer automated text analysis has not been developed sufficiently to do this task. What we envision is a common based peer production platform where everyone can stroll through the data and annotate or tag this data based on specific instructions. Simultaneously, people can choose to look through the tagged material and start to formulate conclusions of the different ways people think about political trust which will then be open for the other users to see and to discuss. Together, it might be possible to start understanding, collaboratively, what is meant by the term political trust. We hope to hear from you, kind regards, On behalf of the MOOR development team, Liza Rubinstein ________________________________________________________________ Professor Nigel Gilbert, ScD, FREng, AcSS, Professor of Sociology, University of Surrey, Guildford GU2 7XH, UK. +44 (0)1483 689173 -- *Please note an intrusion wiped out my inbox on February 8; I have no record of previous communication, proposals, etc ..* P2P Foundation: http://p2pfoundation.net - http://blog.p2pfoundation.net <http://lists.ourproject.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/p2p-foundation>Updates: http://twitter.com/mbauwens; http://www.facebook.com/mbauwens #82 on the (En)Rich list: http://enrichlist.org/the-complete-list/

Fwd: [fcf_discussion] Net Neutrality Vote In EU Parliament: MEPs Must Protect the Internet!

To: fcforum_discussion(a)list.fcforum.net Themes: NET NEUTRALITY, EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT, EUROPEAN SINGLE MARKET FOR ELECTRONIC COMMUNICATIONS, PILAR DEL CASTILLO VERA, JENS ROHDE, CATHERINE TRAUTMANN, NEELIE KROES La Quadrature du Net - For immediate release Permanent link: https://www.laquadrature.net/en/net-neutrality-vote-in-eu-parliament-meps-m… Net Neutrality Vote In EU Parliament: MEPs Must Protect the Internet! *** Paris, 31 March 2014 -- A few days before the vote that will decide the future of Net Neutrality and the Internet commons in Europe, La Quadrature du Net calls on all Members of the European Parliament to support the amendments proposed [1] by the Social-Democrats (S&D), the Greens (Greens/EFA), the United Left (GUE/NGL) and the Liberals [2] (ALDE). These amendments contain strong provisions to protect freedom of expression and freedom of information online, reassert the principle of fair competition and guarantee that users may freely choose between services online. From now until 3 April, citizens should urge [3] their representatives to support this cross-party package of amendments in order to preserve the Internet commons. *** In the months following her appointment as Commissioner in 2010, Neelie Kroes' position on the question of Net Neutrality evolved from unmitigated support [4] to an alignement [5] with the demands of telecom operators' lobbies. Rushed [6] through the committees so that it could be voted before this year's European elections, the Commissioner's proposal for a regulation reflects this inconsistency: while on one hand claiming to protect Net Neutrality, it in fact radically undermines it by permitting commercial discrimination of Internet traffic. Despite much criticism - from within the Commission itself [7] and other institutions [8], as well as from civil society [9] -, the most serious flaws of the proposed regulation have not been corrected [10] by the "Industry" (ITRE) Committee, in charge of this dossier in the EU Parliament. The recent proliferation of harmful agreements under negotiation or concluded between Internet service providers and telecom operators - such as those between Apple and Comcast [11] in the United States or SFR and YouTube [12] in France - or telecoms operators' practice to alter the content of web pages to benefit their own services [13], can be added to the existing long list [14] of discrimination by ISPs, discrimination that has in fact already been identified [15] by many institutions and European regulators. It is high time to put into law strong guarantees for Net Neutrality. Years of inaction have only helped to shelter private interests from public interest regulation and allowed the situation to deteriorate. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA512 Hello, There has been much discussion on the PPL (Peer Production License) in recent months. To support the growing interest I've created a public discussion list for the PPL. Interest can be expressed at the bottom of the page. I've also 2 submitted proposals to OKFestival - one for the directory and one for the platform (Kune). As these were done through Google forms unfortunately there is no copy of them. In all cases, whether the submissions are accepted or not, I will be attending both events and can present "informally" in the unconference streams Cheers, Chris -- *Please note an intrusion wiped out my inbox on February 8; I have no record of previous communication, proposals, etc ..* P2P Foundation: http://p2pfoundation.net - http://blog.p2pfoundation.net <http://lists.ourproject.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/p2p-foundation>Updates: http://twitter.com/mbauwens; http://www.facebook.com/mbauwens #82 on the (En)Rich list: http://enrichlist.org/the-complete-list/

Strangecoin
by Bryan Bishop 30 Mar '14

30 Mar '14

No proposed implementation but here's some fun ideas: http://digitalinterface.blogspot.com/2014/03/strangecoin-proposal-for-nonli… """ What's unique about Strangecoin? - Strangecoin transactions can be *nonzero sum*. A Strangecoin transaction might result in *both* parties having more Strangecoin. - Strangecoin transactions can be *one-sided* and can be conducted entirely by only one party to the transaction. - The rate of change of one's Strangecoin balance is a more important indicator of economic influence than the balance itself. - Optimal investment strategy in Strangecoin aims to *stabilize* one's balance of Strangecoin. - A universal account provides all users a basic Strangecoin income, effectively unlimited wealth, and direct feedback on the overall prosperity of the network. .... As the example suggests, the dynamics of Strangecoin might be usefully thought of in terms of a "reputation system" rather than a strictly financial tool, even though the basic mechanics involve the regular method of exchanging currency for goods perceived by both parties to be of equal value. Because of the nonlinear relationships among Strangecoin users, each user effectively draws on a network of support in each economic transaction, coupling its activity to the successes (and failures) of the that network of activity. The result is a model of the complex interdependencies within a community of economic agents, and the dynamics by which those networks develop and decay. For this reason, Strangecoin might have implications for quantifying the role of individual choices and responsibility in the context of corporate action, and for resolving other difficult issues in the management and ethics of collective economic action. """ https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=7494709 """ Other comments suggest that this can be implemented with existing tools, which I take as a virtue of the proposal. In any case, John von Neumann proved a long time ago that any nonzero sum game with n players can be modeled as a zero sum game with n+1 players, where the n+1 player represents the global state. TUA is simply an implementation of this proof. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zero-sum_game#Extensions I tried to explain inhibition in another comment in this thread. https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=7496858 I give an an analogy in the proposal of the popularity of a celebrity couple being a nonlinear relationship to the popularity of each celebrity individually. I think our intuitive understanding of our social relationships is nonlinear in this way generally, and I think Strangecoin can model those nonlinear relationships well. So, for instance, I'm imagining a family, spouses, close friends, and so on entering into extended coupling transactions, so that as a community their prosperity rises and falls together. I might also enter into such transactions with certain business with whom I want to couple my activities, and these coupling transactions might serve in lieu of direct billing or payment. A coupling relationship with a business is effectively a contract, but with traditional currency you need the whole legal framework of contracts to support the transaction, and with Strangecoin the transaction is built directly into the currency, and the interface looks almost exactly like a point-of-sale cash transaction. And I can enter into less serious relationships of varying degrees with other parties. The effect is a way of managing not just financial transactions, but also reputation, investment, and other dynamics social constraints on the economy via the currency itself. Money is memory ( http://www.minneapolisfed.org/research/sr/sr218.pdf) but our existing currencies only represent some aspects of our economic activity, and therefore put limits on the memory stored in the economy. A nonlinear coin like Strangecoin can embed that social knowledge in the currency itself, providing a more robust memory framework on which we can conduct our economic transactions. I only hint at this in the proposal, but I suspect a system like this is required to resolve the twisted legal artifice the corporate veil, because it quantifies explicitly the role individuals have in collective economic activity, and thereby gives a method for explicitly holding persons proportionally responsible (in both credit and blame) for their contributions to that activity. But I think that's a much more radical proposal than the one I've offered for Strangecoin, and I should probably only be defending that here. =) """ - Bryan http://heybryan.org/ 1 512 203 0507
