Mark: You and your compatriots on P2P view the world from revisionism. Go ahead and keep looking through your microscope-provided by your "teachers." Or take the time and read some very old documented evidence available at a library near you= but you may need to stay there awhile on microfiche. -----Original Message----- From: Mark Janssen Sent: Sunday, October 23, 2011 4:39 PM To: P2P Foundation mailing list Subject: Re: [P2P-F] Fw: Info On Sun, Oct 23, 2011 at 10:32 AM, Natalie Golovin <10natalie(a)cox.net> wrote: > The European Tribes treated the Natives no worse than they treated each > other. Whoa. You should really stop talking. You have NO idea what you're talking about. How about forced acculturation, not allowing them to speak their own language (which hold the record of their own history), confined them under threat of violent force into reservations, among other things. But, really, that's probably not even the worst of it -- the worst of it is that for reasons they couldn't ever understand is why you were doing all of these cruel things when they were willing to share it it all with you. Why, when they handed out their hand to be friends, you chopped it off. Remember, they're the ones who gave us Thanksgiving which is still "celebrated" in this nation today. Read the reports made of making first contact with the Native peoples here. You really should read up before propagating the attitudes of conquest. Sorry.... marcos _______________________________________________ P2P Foundation - Mailing list http://www.p2pfoundation.net https://lists.ourproject.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/p2p-foundation

Fwd: Food System Innovator’s Handbook released, stories of resilience and collaboration from Open Food Network
by Michel Bauwens 22 Oct '20

22 Oct '20

---------- Forwarded message --------- From: Open Food Network Australia <hello(a)openfoodnetwork.org.au> Date: Thu, Oct 22, 2020 at 3:03 PM Subject: Food System Innovator’s Handbook released, stories of resilience and collaboration from Open Food Network To: <michelsub2004(a)gmail.com> Recognition for our work in sustainable food systems, news from our annual global gathering, Circular School Food Network and Open Food Connect news Resilient food systems, Global Gathering 2020, team member introductions and farewells, software updates and more! View this email in your browser <https://mailchi.mp/e51798ce72cf/food-system-innovators-handbook-released-st…> Greetings to our growing community of farmers, makers, researchers, software developers, volunteers and eaters of good body and soul feeding food! Together we have been busy growing the resilient and connected food systems our communities need. Grab an apple and munch on what we've been up to. *Resilient food systems* <https://openfoodnetwork.us13.list-manage.com/track/click?u=6752bbf142dc0ebe…> Are you hoping to or already leading initiatives to grow, share, sell and consume more sustainable foods in your local context? The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations wrote this handbook for “sustainable food systems innovators” like you. Sustainable food systems are fundamental to ensuring that future generations are food secure and eat healthy diets. To transition towards sustainability, many food system activities must be reconstructed. Creating change requires innovation and complex skill sets. Open Food Network is highlighted as one of the tools making sustainable food systems possible. Check out what else is available here <https://openfoodnetwork.us13.list-manage.com/track/click?u=6752bbf142dc0ebe…> ! We're excited and honoured to have been recognised for our contribution to community resilience this year, as a finalist for the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning Community Resilience Award <https://openfoodnetwork.us13.list-manage.com/track/click?u=6752bbf142dc0ebe…>, in the Victorian Regional Achievement and Community Awards. You can also vote for us in the People's Choice Awards <https://openfoodnetwork.us13.list-manage.com/track/click?u=6752bbf142dc0ebe…> ! But of course anything we do is so grounded in the community we work with. And we are in awe of the many food enterprises in our community whose resilience in the face of 2020 is inspiring. So thank you, to all those in our community who model every day what resilience looks like. *Open Food Network Global news* Open Food Network is a truly global project. We've continued to grow this year, and there are now Open Food Network local instances in 20 countries, with more in development. While we're in constant conversation with our global community, we also get together in-person each year to work through strategic decisions and tricky problems that are easier to sort out with lots of talking and planning. This year, no travel meant that we were able to reimagine our global gathering to be bigger, better, and more inclusive than ever! It was an amazing opportunity to spend significant time with the richly diverse community that makes up our global network. We heard from one of Open Food Network Brasil's leaders, Thomaz, a food systems academic based in Belo Horizonte. He shared that the previously famed food policies in their region have been largely eroded under the current government, and reminded us all to make as much progress in food systems when a window of opportunity presents itself - as it currently is with COVID-19. Rafat, in Open Food Network Jordan, talked about challenges for farmers and his vision of global trade enabled by Open Food Network. Davie, from Open Food Network Ireland, helped us understand more about holacratic governance. Hector and Hernan, who lead Open Food Network Colombia, shared their wealth of experience in co-operatives, and explained the unique challenges facing farmers in their region. We will be releasing videos from the gathering soon, and we hope you'll draw the same inspiration and solace from the fact that all over the world, people are working collaboratively to build a new food system with open source global commons at its core. *New team members!* <https://openfoodnetwork.us13.list-manage.com/track/click?u=6752bbf142dc0ebe…> Meet our new team members, David and Sue :) David Cook is our new software developer. He grew up in regional Victoria before moving to Melbourne for university. He volunteered with Open Food Network in 2013 and we are excited to have him back with us helping build platforms to facilitate more local, independent food distribution. Susan Earl, our new UX designer hails from New Zealand and has worked as a UX designer for corporate and not-for-profits. She is also a film maker, illustrator and sessional teacher and assessor for the RMIT Masters of Animation program for the past 15 years! She is creating engaging screen experiences for us. *Thank you, Danni* We have said goodbye this month to one of our much loved team members, Danni, as she steps back from Open Food Network. Danni has been with us for five years, and has brought immeasurable expertise and care to our work. She has led development of projects and processes both in Australia and with our global team. For most of her time with us she was a volunteer, and Open Food Network has always been balanced alongside other demanding roles. We’re excited for the space to explore interests and ideas that having just one job (!) will bring her, but we will miss her insight, curiosity and the pleasure of working together. *Software Updates* *Release of the month* Top of the release list for Sept/Oct is the long awaited feature allowing Hub shopfronts to make customer names visible in their Producer reports via SHOP PREFERENCES <https://openfoodnetwork.us13.list-manage.com/track/click?u=6752bbf142dc0ebe…>. If this option is selected by the Hub, supplying Producers can now run reports including hub customer names to assist with packing and fulfilling orders. *For the full list of releases this month, click below.* *Christmas is coming* Interested in learning about how to create hampers or gift vouchers for your customers at Christmas? Get in touch <[email protected]?subject=Hampers%20%26%20Gift%20Vouchers&body=Hi%20there%2C%0A%0AI'm%20interested%20in%20getting%20more%20information%20on%20how%20to%20create%20hampers%20or%20sell%20gift%20vouchers%20to%20my%20customers%20over%20Christmas%20-%20can%20you%20give%20me%20some%20more%20details%20on%20how%20this%20would%20work%20for%20my%20business%3F%0A> for solutions specific to your business or to book a demo. This great project is working towards creating a circular school food system that remakes connections between schools and farmers, to increase the flow of healthy, locally grown food to school communities and support a vibrant local and regional food economy. If you are a producer on the Open Food Network and would be interested in learning more about creating connections with local schools, please register your interest here <https://openfoodnetwork.us13.list-manage.com/track/click?u=6752bbf142dc0ebe…> . *Open Food Connect* Are you a producer with surplus produce? Or are you looking for new hubs and places to sell on the Open Food Network? Are you a hub that is looking to stock some flour but don't know where to get it? Are you trying to connect with producers but not sure what's in your area? Reach out to the Open Food Network and our brokering service will help match supply and demand to get food where it needs to go. So far we've helped: - Connect hubs with new dairy and beef producers - Connect producers with greens and flour looking for new hubs to sell through - Connect a community food enterprise looking for a chickpea supplier If you are looking to sell, procure, or just want more info - get in touch! Connect now <https://openfoodnetwork.us13.list-manage.com/track/click?u=6752bbf142dc0ebe…> *Catch up* Last week, Serenity Hill talked regenerative agriculture with TEDx PermaQueer, covering the complex barriers and the pathways for transitioning to regenerative agriculture such as collaborations between consumers, farmers and food enterprises, solidarity and commons based approaches to land and capital. Watch it here <https://openfoodnetwork.us13.list-manage.com/track/click?u=6752bbf142dc0ebe…> . *Open Food Networkers in the news:* The Tasmanian Producers Collective are using Open Food Network to open hubs across the state <https://openfoodnetwork.us13.list-manage.com/track/click?u=6752bbf142dc0ebe…> . McIvor Farm Foods switched to Open Food Network and replaced all of their lost wholesale and hospitality sales with direct to customer retail. They've now been able to open a new farmgate shop and butcher <https://openfoodnetwork.us13.list-manage.com/track/click?u=6752bbf142dc0ebe…> ! North Arm Farms spoke to their local media <https://openfoodnetwork.us13.list-manage.com/track/click?u=6752bbf142dc0ebe…> about their awesome collaborative work in the Nambucca Valley, and how they're using Open Food Network to build food sovereignty. Food Connect in Brisbane feature in ABC Landline's video <https://openfoodnetwork.us13.list-manage.com/track/click?u=6752bbf142dc0ebe…> about farmers coming together to sell their produce and customers getting to know their farmers and where their food comes from. *Other food systems news:* We need to be building food systems that address the inequities in our current system. Check out Sovereign Soil Farm <https://openfoodnetwork.us13.list-manage.com/track/click?u=6752bbf142dc0ebe…>, who are currently raising funds to do just that! Fwd: Sign up to the first Protopia Lab workshop by 23 October

19 Oct '20

---------- Forwarded message --------- From: Smart CSOs Lab <do-not-reply(a)smart-csos.org> Date: Sun, Oct 18, 2020 at 10:39 PM Subject: Sign up to the first Protopia Lab workshop by 23 October To: <michel(a)p2pfoundation.net> Our new project is a space to address polarisation in society, pave the way for global cooperation, and upgrade our civilisation before it's too late. View this email in your browser <https://mailchi.mp/70fab14a4942/the-protopia-lab-website-launch-3317614?e=3…> <https://smart-csos.us2.list-manage.com/track/click?u=5cf566bc194b8a0b681cee…> October 2020 Dear Michel, *This is a reminder. To sign up to our first Protopia Lab workshop you need to fill in this questionnaire <https://smart-csos.us2.list-manage.com/track/click?u=5cf566bc194b8a0b681cee…> by Friday, 23 October.* Are you worried about the spiral of polarisation in our societies, and the dysfunctional public conversation around our most pressing issues? Do you have the sense that we are increasingly living in very different realities and ideological bubbles that prevent us from solving problems together? We believe the time has come to break out of our echo chambers, start a fresh and undogmatic conversation about how we can cooperate effectively and upgrade our civilisation to help prevent its collapse. If these topics speak to you, consider joining the Protopia Lab <https://smart-csos.us2.list-manage.com/track/click?u=5cf566bc194b8a0b681cee…>. We are delighted to finally announce that we are hosting our first workshop (via Zoom) with an initial group of pioneers on Friday, 27 November 2020 from 2pm to 7pm CET. This will be followed by two follow-up sessions (also via Zoom) on 11 December and 15 January. What to Expect [image: The Protopia Lab logo] The Protopia Lab was inspired by the idea that we can only tackle the biggest problems of our times, including climate change, if we can stop the spiralling polarisation across our societies. Only a deep and empathic understanding of the dynamics that led us to our current societal divide will allow us to lay the foundations for renewed trust, and a new social contract. However, this isn’t just something we can do by talking or theorising. We also have to learn how to have conversations with those who hold different values to us – whether in our organisations or in day-to-day life. That’s why we’ve designed this workshop to be *experiential, exploratory and experimental*. You will learn about the neuroscience, psychology and physiology of polarisation. We’ll explore which models and cultural frameworks can help us make sense of the complex ideological realities that lead to polarisation. Through group conversations, mindfulness practices and simple mediation processes, you will leave with a greater awareness of your own cognitive biases and build your capacity for seeing issues from multiple perspectives. How to Join We would like to hear from activists and other change agents who deeply care about workable strategies for tackling the climate crisis and believe that we need to think polarisation and ecological transition together. We especially encourage people with *non-orthodox* perspectives and curious minds to join. If you would like to apply to participate, please take 10 minutes of your time to fill in this questionnaire <https://smart-csos.us2.list-manage.com/track/click?u=5cf566bc194b8a0b681cee…> *by 23 October*. We would like to make this the most enjoyable and useful experience for everyone and would therefore like to know about your motivations and interest in this project. We will select a group of up to 25 participants and confirm participation by 1 November. You are requested to commit to full participation during all three sessions. The process - Main workshop on *Friday, 27 November from 2pm to 7pm CET* - Approx. 2 hours of reading to complete for the next session - Follow-up session 1 on *Friday, 11 December from 3pm to 5pm CET* - Approx. 2 hours of reading to complete for the next session - Follow-up session 2 on *Friday, 15 January from 3pm to 5pm CET* For this project, we are grateful to partner with and receive financial support from European Youth Forum <https://smart-csos.us2.list-manage.com/track/click?u=5cf566bc194b8a0b681cee…>. We will ask confirmed participants to make a small voluntary donation to help cover the remaining costs. We would greatly appreciate it if you could share this invitation with people who might be interested, and especially with people who might bring along fresh perspectives and diverse viewpoints. If you have questions about the project, please contact Micha <michael(a)smart-csos.org>. Fwd: Will you help me finish my PhD?

---------- Forwarded message --------- From: urbanohumano <urbanohumano(a)gmail.com> Date: Mon, Oct 19, 2020 at 2:16 AM Subject: Will you help me finish my PhD? To: <michel(a)p2pfoundation.net> Hello, How are you? I hope this strange historical moment finds you in the best possible place and situation! Today I write to ask you for help (Don't worry this is not the typical SPAM mail that asks you for money hehe) If you have subscribed to my newsletter for some time, you will know that in 2006 I started a doctorate in town planning at the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid. I finished the first cycle of subjects in 2009 with a paper that has been downloaded 15,000 times <http://mail01.tinyletterapp.com/urbanohumano/will-you-help-me-finish-my-phd…> and I started to develop my doctoral thesis. I have been working on it for over 10 years and I am running out of time! December 16th is my last possible deadline! *I need your help. I do need your help!* The content is there, however I lack the references. I have found 101 statements that need to be supported by a quote or a reference. I don't think I could do it alone in such a short time. Will you help me find them? The thesis is focused on the processes of collective intelligence. Why not activate a process of collective intelligence to finish it? Why not transform a problem into an opportunity? So I launch this challenge. An experiment that could allow me to achieve what I would find difficult to achieve on my own, generating knowledge and an open methodology that could be useful for more people. How does it work? I have published 101 statements in a public document. Here is the link <http://mail01.tinyletterapp.com/urbanohumano/will-you-help-me-finish-my-phd…> . Each statement has a number. If you want to help, just choose one of the statements and add a comment. You can do this directly in the document, by sending an email or through the social networks by referring to the exact number of the quote. To facilitate the process I have divided the 101 statements into 7 categories. Every day I will publish the statements of one category. I will do it in my blog, in my newsletter, social networks! I will also organize some working sessions in videoconference. They will be short sessions of one hour, one for each of the 7 categories. If you want to participate, please fill in this form <http://mail01.tinyletterapp.com/urbanohumano/will-you-help-me-finish-my-phd…> . This is all. If perhaps this is not your field of action or research, I hope that at least soon I will be able to share the methodology of this action so that it can be useful to be applied in another context. I also thank you if you pass this message to other people who you think can help me. As always, I am looking forward to your comments and proposals, or simply to hear how you are doing. A big hug. D. Fwd: Rabbi Lerner & the Dalai Lama

---------- Forwarded message --------- From: Rabbi Lerner <magazine(a)tikkun.org> Date: Sat, Oct 17, 2020 at 12:57 AM Subject: Rabbi Lerner & the Dalai Lama To: Michel Bauwens <michelsub2004(a)gmail.com> Rabbi Lerner & the Dalai Lama <https://default.salsalabs.org/Tb10bdfd5-a740-4451-ad72-b18e1fbca998/c02a818…> A note from Tikkun's Editor: I was humbled and honored to be invited by the Dalai Lama to speak on two panels with him several years ago, and now to be invited to speak at the Lion's Roar and Tibet House organized Dalai Lama Global Vision Summit. Other speakers you may know include: Sharon Salzberg, Robert Thurman, Serene Jones (president, Union Theological Seminary). Deepak Chopra, Mark Epstein, Dan Goleman, Robert Wright, Karenna Gore, and of course the Dalai Lama himself. The pre-recorded program (so you can listen without conflict on Shabbat), features a few of these speakers whom you can listen to at your leisure. It is FREE. https://learn.lionsroar.com/p/dalai-lama-summit-schedule/ <https://default.salsalabs.org/T9718e690-a76b-4ecb-8f19-57071e2ec815/c02a818…> I know I've learned much from listening to these and other Buddhist-inspired teachers, and I imagine that you might also. On Yom Kippur, I chant the beautiful message of our prophets: My house (Temple) shall be a house of prayer for all people (nations). I read (and pray this) as a respectful inter-faith call, since we are inviting others to offer their sacrifices and prayers, not as an attempt to convert them but to share their ideas and spiritual practices with us and we would share our spirituality with them. Imagine a world in which all the great religions extended a similar invitation to all religions and peoples. Well, that is part of what is happening with the summit, at least in intention if not in perfect actualization quite yet). The pre-recorded summit sessions will be presented online from Thursday, October 22 to Tuesday, October 27, 2020. The sessions for each day will be available free for 48 hours, starting at 6:00 am PDT | 9:00 am EDT (North American time zones) Go here for free registration: https://promo.lionsroar.com/dalai-lama-summit-register/#aff02 <https://default.salsalabs.org/Tbeeb3d5a-5bb0-4a75-9828-70ac69e518bc/c02a818…> And what a gift to have in the midst of all the noise and craziness as fascism bids for yet more power through the Supreme Court and disrupting or delegitimating the November election. Fwd: The Simpleton Manifesto

For America’s leading anti-feminist of the ’60s and ’70s, “Civilization progresses, freedom is won, and problems are solved because we have wonderful people who think up simple solutions.” Complexity was for the confused or the compromised. A growing number of Americans are again embracing this approach. Many on the resurgent far-left have joined the far-right in believing that the issues of the day could be overcome if only policymakers stopped tinkering at the edges of the system and adopted solutions that supposedly stare us in the face. Understanding the implications of this attitude is vital—now more than ever. In their 1970 classic *The Politics of Unreason*, the sociologists Seymour Lipset and Earl Raab coined a word for this black-and-white thinking: “simplism.” They defined it as “the unambiguous ascription of single causes and remedies for multifactored phenomena.” Reality was irrelevant to its advocates and strength of will was more important than attention to practicalities. For the simplist, “just *saying* the right thing, *believing *the right thing, is the substance of victory and remedy.” Schlafly epitomized this. “There is a very simple solution to what to do about the problem of world communism,” she once declared. “Just stop helping the Communists.” Lipset and Raab did not take their analysis of simplism far. As they saw it, simplism was only one aspect of political extremism—the concept was dealt with in only a few pages. But simplism has now moved from the fringes into the Oval Office and beyond. We are surrounded by good slogans for bad policies, from “Build the Wall” to “Abolish the Police.” At the extremes, both ends of the spectrum have given up workable solutions and returned to “single causes and remedies.” So what are some of the hallmarks of simplism? - *First, the solution is always clear and debate is unnecessary. * What do you do if “illegals” are supposedly crossing the southern border in droves? Build a wall. As Trump declared in an Oval Office address, “This is just common sense.” The claim of “common sense” was also a favorite of Trump’s senior policy adviser Stephen Miller, who used it to justify the conspiracy theory that “special interests want to bring in more low-skilled workers” to depress wages. Simplists refuse discussion because they believe—or want you to believe—that their positions are self-evident truths. - *Second, the opposition is stupid or evil. If they can’t accept your remedy, they must be too dim to understand or too malicious to comply.* In a speech calling for the border wall, Trump opted for the latter interpretation. After listing a number of Americans killed by illegal immigrants, he asked, “How much more American blood must we shed before Congress does its job?” “This is a choice,” he concluded, “between right and wrong, justice and injustice.” - *Third, objecting means siding with the enemy. There can be no middle ground.* When some Republicans voted to block the president’s emergency declaration to build the wall, the Fox News pundit Tomi Lahren declared that such Republicans in the Senate “don’t want the wall any more than the Democrats. They just hide behind convenient, yet arguably BS, excuses.” “They have an R by their names,” she added, “but it might as well be a Christmas ornament; it means nothing.” For simplists, even occasional opposition is beyond the pale. - *Fourth, political norms do not matter. Simplist proposals are so legislatively and practically unworkable, they require bypassing rules. * It is no surprise that the wall—the paradigmatic simplist policy—is being built through gross executive overreach. Trump declared a state of emergency to pay for its construction, following the longest government shutdown in U.S. history, and then obtained funding by diverting money from the Pentagon. Riding roughshod over the rules is easier when you have the arrogance of the simplist. ------------------------------ The results of simplism are dismal. “Build the Wall” is a striking slogan to be shouted at rallies, but does nothing to address the issue of the 62% of undocumented migrants who remain in the United States by overstaying their work visas, rather than “entering without inspection.” The wall is also unlikely to stop those determined to take the old-fashioned route of slipping directly over the border: Cartels have already identified a power tool, sold at under $100, that can cut right through it. The whole thing has been nothing more than an $11 billion loyalty test. Indeed, because simplism refuses to contend with the real world, its more extreme forms deny the need to govern altogether. This has never been clearer than when this year’s Republican National Convention substituted all policy proposals with a commitment to “the President’s America First agenda.” At a time of national crisis, the GOP has given up trying. For simplists, the slogan *is* the platform. Simplism’s tendency to encourage polarization is just as insidious—if you slander naysayers as saboteurs and regard dissent as incomprehensible, no discussion can be had. Because simplists have the loudest voices and catchiest slogans, entire parties can become associated with ideals that those parties may not even support. Even as Democrats from Sanders to Biden have rejected calls to “defund the police,” Republican strategists have leapt at the chance to paint their opponents as radicals. It is unsurprising that so many Americans have stopped talking to the other side. A recent Pew Research poll <https://email.mg2.substack.com/c/eJwlkcmOwyAMhp-m3IiALCUHDnOZ14gIOAlqAoilmb…> found that only 3% of Trump and Biden voters reported having a lot of friends who supported the other candidate. Around 40% said they had none. Simplism recognizes only two categories: friend or foe. Perhaps the greatest danger is that simplism feasts on its failures. Its ineffective policies will not solve America’s problems, so calls for radical action will intensify. In this mood of crisis, norms are obstacles rather than boundaries. Politics becomes two unshakeable poles, which paralyzes Congress and halts the passage of policy fixes. As long as simplism reigns, America’s problems will worsen—and so the process will repeat itself. Lipset and Raab had the good fortune to live in an age when simplism remained a sign of fringe extremists. Today, it has myriad adherents on left and right—with the president of the United States as the simplist-in-chief. *Nathaniel Rachman is a recent history graduate from the University of Oxford, where he edited **The Oxford Student**.* <https://email.mg2.substack.com/c/eJxFUttymzAQ_RrzFkYSVz_oIbHjFMem09Zx47wwui…> <https://email.mg2.substack.com/c/eJxFUk2TojAQ_TVyk8oHIBw4zK5OLa5iOeO444mC0G…> <https://email.mg2.substack.com/c/eJxFksuSojAUhp8GdlK5cHPBome0a3C8lD22064oCA…> You’re on the free list for Persuasion <https://email.mg2.substack.com/c/eJxFUEluhTAMPQ1ZojgfPmGRRTe9BsrgQFQIUYZSbt…>.
