Mark: You and your compatriots on P2P view the world from revisionism. Go ahead and keep looking through your microscope-provided by your "teachers." Or take the time and read some very old documented evidence available at a library near you= but you may need to stay there awhile on microfiche. -----Original Message----- From: Mark Janssen Sent: Sunday, October 23, 2011 4:39 PM To: P2P Foundation mailing list Subject: Re: [P2P-F] Fw: Info On Sun, Oct 23, 2011 at 10:32 AM, Natalie Golovin <10natalie(a)cox.net> wrote: > The European Tribes treated the Natives no worse than they treated each > other. Whoa. You should really stop talking. You have NO idea what you're talking about. How about forced acculturation, not allowing them to speak their own language (which hold the record of their own history), confined them under threat of violent force into reservations, among other things. But, really, that's probably not even the worst of it -- the worst of it is that for reasons they couldn't ever understand is why you were doing all of these cruel things when they were willing to share it it all with you. Why, when they handed out their hand to be friends, you chopped it off. Remember, they're the ones who gave us Thanksgiving which is still "celebrated" in this nation today. Read the reports made of making first contact with the Native peoples here. You really should read up before propagating the attitudes of conquest. Sorry.... marcos _______________________________________________ P2P Foundation - Mailing list http://www.p2pfoundation.net https://lists.ourproject.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/p2p-foundation

I'm really hoping you could forward this might be of interest to you and that you might take a moment to forward this information to your respective networks. I'm also attaching a flyer. More info: openhere.data.ie What does it mean to be open today? CTVR / The Telecommunications Research Centre, in collaboration with the Dublin Art and Technology Association (D.A.T.A) present Openhere, a free four day festival that addresses social, technological and cultural issues surrounding the notion of the digital commons. If we speak of ‘the commons’ today as a general phenomenon, this has much to do with the modes of production, consumption and distribution that have emerged over the last two decades around information and communication technologies. This period has seen a growing emphasis on the social and juridical implications of sharing in the online domain, where a range of nonmarket and non-proprietary activities such as open source software, remix cultures and commons-based peer-production have lead some to propose the advent of a ‘digital socialism’. However, as sharing and openness become the watchwords of the new corporation - as the commons is increasingly central to capitalism - such positions are no longer straightforward. Open Here will bring together a transdisciplinary community of critical theorists, engineers, artists, designers and industry professionals to expand debates surrounding the digital commons. Key points of discussion will include the conflictive spaces of the digital commons, tactical media, net-art, digital policy, disruptive wireless practices, alternative spectrum ownership models, next-generation networks and the political economy of infrastructure. This festival takes the form of talks, presentations, workshops, discussions and screenings. It will be held in The Science Gallery and in CTVR headquarters in Trinity College from June 28th to July 1st, 2012. What do I not understand about demurage--how is not equivalent to a flat tax except that it doesn't go to the public treasury where it might do some good? Doesn't it discourage workers from saving at the same time it discourages the rich from hoarding? Doesn't inflation already cause US dollars to gradually evaporate? I don't see how demurage helps redistribute wealth downward like a progressive tax does. I don't get it. I am writing from a European perspective where growth is strangled by austerity and countries cannot create money in their own currency - i.e. they are in an 'original sin' currency mismatch situation. They've borrewed in a currency they do not control. The ECB behaves like a foreign creditor to its own memebr countries, extracting the surplus in debt servicing. I don't believe for a moment that 20 yrs of surplus would solve anything - that would be 20 years of recession, so rising debt/GDP ratios. But it illustrates the scope of the problem. What other solution than debt write offs (or change the rules of the game)? Dirk On 28-06-12, Stephanie Kelton <stephanie.kelton(a)me.com> wrote: I don't follow. http://www.ted.com/talks/massimo_banzi_how_arduino_is_open_sourcing_imaginat ion.html Massimo Banzi helped invent the Arduino, a tiny, easy-to-use open-source microcontroller that's inspired thousands of people around the world to make the coolest things they can imagine -- from toys to satellite gear. Because, as he says, "You don't need anyone's permission to make something great." Massimo Banzi co-founded Arduino, which makes affordable open-source microcontrollers for interactive projects, from art installations to an automatic plant waterer.
