Whoa. You should really stop talking. You have NO idea what you're talking about. How about forced acculturation, not allowing them to speak their own language (which hold the record of their own history), confined them under threat of violent force into reservations, among other things. But, really, that's probably not even the worst of it -- the worst of it is that for reasons they couldn't ever understand is why you were doing all of these cruel things when they were willing to share it it all with you. Why, when they handed out their hand to be friends, you chopped it off. Remember, they're the ones who gave us Thanksgiving which is still "celebrated" in this nation today. Read the reports made of making first contact with the Native peoples here. You really should read up before propagating the attitudes of conquest. Sorry.... marcos _______________________________________________ P2P Foundation - Mailing list http://www.p2pfoundation.net https://lists.ourproject.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/p2p-foundation

The report details a set of policies that can be enacted in both the United States and the United Kingdom based on “new approaches to ownership and control” of the digital infrastructure that underpins the 21st-century economy. These include treating the wireless spectrum, cloud infrastructure, and the rollout and maintenance of fiber optic connections and 5G wireless as vital 21st-century public goods, underpinned by democratic ownership and governance. new essay: What is the future of the commons movement? What are some of the pathways for a commons transition.
by Michel Bauwens 19 May '20

19 May '20

via jose ramos =========================== What is the future of the commons movement? What are some of the pathways for a commons transition. How do we formulate an alternative political economy and livelihoods out of the ashes of neoliberalism and the covid-19 pandemic? And how do we understand all of this in the broader planetary context of the anthropocene? Our book chapter "Awakening to an Ecology of the Commons" (Michel Bauwens and Jose Ramos) attempts to provide answers to the following questions. As any nuanced thinker will tell you, there are no easy answers in this world. However given the massive upheavals we are experiencing, it is incumbent on us to push forward through sense-making and connecting with our values and our visions. in this book chapter we offer three scenarios for the futures of the commons movement and social change. We argue that we need to build a meta language for commoning - a "protocol commons". This will allow us to weave a broader movement across many different actors that are working for commons in their own way (even when they are not calling it commons or commoning). We call this an "ecology of the commons". The book chapter is part of an ambitious anthology by Anne Grear and David Bollier titled "The Great Awakening: New Modes of Life amidst Capitalist Ruins" (Punctum Books, Santa Barbara) It is an ambitious anthology that brings together contributions from Sam Adelman, David Bollier, Primavera De Filippi, Vito De Lucia, Richard Falk, Anna Grear, Paul B. Hartzog, Andreas Karitzis, Xavier Labayssiere, and Maywa Montenegro de Wit, as well as including our work. In their own words: "It is clear that the multiple, entangled crises produced by neoliberal capitalism cannot be resolved by existing political and legal institutions, which are imploding under the weight of their own contradictions. Present and future needs can be met by systems that go beyond the market and state. With experiments and struggle, a growing pluriverse of commoners from Europe and the US to the Global South and cyberspace are demonstrating some fundamentally new ways of thinking, being and acting.... We learn about seed-sharing in agriculture, blockchain technologies for networked collaboration, cosmolocal peer production of houses and vehicles, creative hacks on law, and new ways of thinking and enacting a rich, collaborative future. This surge of creativity is propelled by the social practices of commoning new modes of life for creating and sharing wealth in fair-minded, ecologically respectful ways." the anthology will be available in September 2020 through Punctum Books. a preprint of the book chapter can be seen here. https://punctumbooks.com/titles/the-great-awakening-new-modes-of-life-amids… ********************** Dr. José M. Yet there is a long and extensive history of Potential Pandemic Pathogens (PPPs) escaping from labs all over the world. H1NI flu, for example, is now considered to have been a lab escape as was the UK’s Foot and Mouth disease (FMD) virus outbreak of 2007. Most of these escape events and their consequences are virtually unknown outside of their specialist fields, however. This article provides an overview. The author is an independent journalist. Please share this article if you know someone who will find it useful. I am writing a book about genetics and genetic determinism. It is provisionally titled: *The Myth of The Master Molecule: DNA and the Social Order* The contention of the book is that the key organising principle of Western thought is the seemingly innocuous and seemingly simple idea that our personal qualities are biologically inherited. That is, our character derives from our ancestors rather than being an always-adapting product of our own experiences, decisions, and education. The book makes the case, first, that genetic determinism is a scientific fallacy since organisms are self-organised systems and therefore not genetically determined. Second, the explanation for the myth, which originated in Mesopotamia around 5,000 years ago, is its utility. Genetic determinism allows the development of political systems based on genetic privilege. The result was the dismantling of ancient cultures based on inclusive and egalitarian social patterns and their transformation into rigid structures of authoritarian domination based on separation and division: into families, classes, races, nations, sexes (i.e. patriarchy), and species. The final proposition of the book is that propagating the myth was the chief aim of Zoroastrianism and all the Abrahamic religions. Since the 1850s, this role has been appropriated by science. By recognizing how the founding myth of Western civilization is being re-told in the language of science we can start to dismantle and replace it with a more humane and scientific understanding of the world. In this special series on Bot Populi, we bring you a range of incisive analyses that combine critique, prognosis, hope, and even anger. Check them out here <https://itforchange.us11.list-manage.com/track/click?u=6fd97454ef6c0671ea92…> . Our effort has been to take a deep dive into the intersections of labor, the digital economy, and the Covid pandemic through engaging and critical long and short reads and interviews that delve into various facets of worker rights in the global economic context. This crisis has seen millions across nations, rich and poor, sliding into unemployment over the past six weeks. Livelihoods that are not essential in a time of global lockdown are no longer viable. Informal workers at the very edges – farm and wage workers, and micro entrepreneurs – are struggling with lack of access to work. Even as precarity looms large over their future, gig workers are battling it out on the frontlines as the world orders in everything. Never has there been a more important or urgent time to talk about labor. Scroll down for highlights from our series.
