Mark: You and your compatriots on P2P view the world from revisionism. Go ahead and keep looking through your microscope-provided by your "teachers." Or take the time and read some very old documented evidence available at a library near you= but you may need to stay there awhile on microfiche. -----Original Message----- From: Mark Janssen Sent: Sunday, October 23, 2011 4:39 PM To: P2P Foundation mailing list Subject: Re: [P2P-F] Fw: Info On Sun, Oct 23, 2011 at 10:32 AM, Natalie Golovin <10natalie(a)cox.net> wrote: > The European Tribes treated the Natives no worse than they treated each > other. Whoa. You should really stop talking. You have NO idea what you're talking about. How about forced acculturation, not allowing them to speak their own language (which hold the record of their own history), confined them under threat of violent force into reservations, among other things. But, really, that's probably not even the worst of it -- the worst of it is that for reasons they couldn't ever understand is why you were doing all of these cruel things when they were willing to share it it all with you. Why, when they handed out their hand to be friends, you chopped it off. Remember, they're the ones who gave us Thanksgiving which is still "celebrated" in this nation today. Read the reports made of making first contact with the Native peoples here. You really should read up before propagating the attitudes of conquest. Fw: Duly Noted: Sticking with the Banking Union

----- Forwarded Message ----- From: Daniel Hessel <dhessel(a)project-syndicate.org> To: dharao4(a)yahoo.co.uk Sent: Monday, 29 October 2012, 16:28 Subject: Duly Noted: Sticking with the Banking Union The eurozone's sovereign-debt crisis both reflects and reinforces a banking crisis, most glaringly in Spain, but also in Italy, Ireland, and Greece. The European Commission's plan for a eurozone-wide banking union aims to sever the link between public debt and banks' solvency by instituting a common regulatory framework. In a new Focal Point, Project Syndicate contributors consider whether that will be enough to bring long-term stability to the eurozone. Commentaries include: European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso on why a banking union is needed Howard Davies on flaws in proposed banking union reform George Soros on why Germany must lead or leave the eurozone Former ECB President Jean-Claude Trichet on what makes the EU exceptional To read the full Focal Point, click here. Fw: [gang8] Great videos of A great AMI Conference
by robert searle 15 Oct '12

----- Forwarded Message ----- From: AMI <ami(a)taconic.net> To: AMI <ami(a)taconic.net> Sent: Saturday, 13 October 2012, 18:08 Subject: [gang8] Great videos of A great AMI Conference Dear Friends of the American Monetary Institute, The historic 8th Annual AMI Monetary Reform Conference is now in the history books. Everyone, it seemed, loved it! What was historic about it? For starters, the deputy head of Research at the International Monetary Fund (IMF), presented his paper, "The Chicago Plan Revisited." The Chicago Plan had been proposed to get the country out of the Great Depression. Believe it or not, with all the advances in computer technology and modeling programs, it was only 2 months ago that an important economist, Dr. Michael Kumhof of the IMF, put the old Chicago Plan proposal of the 1930s, to the test through computerized simulation. He found that the plan exceeded Irving Fisher's best expectations. Dr. Kunhof's presentation and a panel discussing it are of course in the video collection of the conference. Folks, do see http://www.monetary.org/2012conferencevideos for a description of the videos and how you get the whole conference for only $144. One powerful conclusion of Dr. Kumhof's study, is that the potential for inflation is much much smaller when money is created by the government instead of by the banks. This confirms Professor Yamaguchi's study of the HR 2990, which concluded that it pays off the national debt as it comes due, provides the funding for infrastructure (thereby solving the unemployment problem) and does so without inflation. People - this confirmation by the two different studies, is really dynamite! Dr, Michael Clark of the UN gave a talk which you should all watch. He is the man responsible for the IMF creating 240 billion new SDRs a couple of years ago, though the IMF had only created 21 billion before that, since 1970. The Chinese took up $40 Billion of these new SDR's, thereby exiting $40 billion of their large dollar positions, without causing any commotion in the $ exchange rates! The story of how that happened is fascinating, and exciting. One of the most inspiring talks of the conference was given by Mrs. Elizabeth Kucinich, wife of Congressman Dennis Kucinich, on how to advocate for monetary reform. A real eye opener. I could go on, but am awaiting reviews from some of the participants, which we will forward. And now you can see it all on video: All 18 speakers - about 25 hours, sent to you loaded on one 300 GB external disc drive that plugs into any computers USB slot. The videos take up 100 GB, which leaves you an extra 200 GB storage space for whatever you want. Again see http://www.monetary.org/2012conferencevideos Satisfaction is guaranteed or your payment is refunded. Of Special Note: On the last day of the conference, after Stephen Zarlenga and 2 AMI researchers (Steven Walsh and Jamie Walton) gave two talks explaining the problems we see with the theories of Mitchell Innes and of what is called "Modern Monetary Theory (MMT)," Dr. Michael Hudson objected to our treatment of Innes and MMT. Much passionate discussion followed, by participants around the room - and its all on video! While the issue was not resolved in the discussion, what emerged was that Prof. Nic Tideman, offered to act as an ambassadorial intermediary between Hudson and Zarlenga and see how the questions that came up can be resolved accurately, since they are largely factual. Zarlenga and Hudson agreed to this process, and Hudson suggested that David Kelley also be an intermediary, and Zarlenga agreed. This ongoing process will be posted to the AMI Google list, and also be available to those who have signed in at the red arrows box on our homepage. Join the fun folks! I'm thinking this process can lead to real growth in understanding whats needed for monetary reform. Warm regards to all! Fw: [gang8] Pension economics 101
by robert searle 10 Oct '12

10 Oct '12

----- Forwarded Message ----- From: Gunnar Tomasson <gunnar.tomasson(a)verizon.net> To: gang8(a)yahoogroups.com Sent: Wednesday, 10 October 2012, 13:53 Subject: [gang8] Pension economics 101 Dear Gang. “Iceland’s pension fund swims in the ocean around the country.” Or so I put it in a conversation with two leading Icelanders thirty years ago. One, Guðmundur (Gvendur) jaki (the strong) was the leader of Dagsbrún (Dawn), the union of Reykjavík’s day laborers. The other, Ögmundur Jónasson, was the head of the Union of State and Municipal Government Workers. Currently Iceland’s Minister of Justice and the Interior. My point was this: The Icelandic people live on what they produce – directly and indirectly through trade with the rest of the world. And how does “money” and “savings” etc. come into the picture? In any number of ways, BUT it does not change the central fact of the matter: A “pension” is a claim on current output without matching contribution to its production. In the old days, family took care of its elders and community took care (or not) of unfortunates. Now, monetary arrangements have been put in place to supplement such old-style “pensions”. And, not surprisingly, mainstream monetary thinking has screwed up in this respect as in most others! Ignorant of an essential fact: In entrepreneurial market economies, profit and interest on production credit has one – and only one – ultimate source: FINAL DEMAND INFLATION – New money created to inflate Final Output “Value” above its Factor Supply Cost. A means of placing nominal purchasing power in hands other than those of current Factor Income Recipients. If Factor Income Recipients put some Factor Income aside for future use, NEW money creation in an equal amount must take place. Or else Nominal Demand for Final Output will fall short of the Factor Cost of Final Output by the amount of such “savings”. If at some future time, such “savings” are activated to purchase Final Output, the effects are identical to those of NEW money creation. There are myriad aspects to all this, but one thing is crystal clear: A pension is a means of reaping where one has not sown. It puts a chicken in one’s pot by shorting current chicken producers. Hello Guys! I'm not sure if I previously posted here - in any case, my request is simple: I really love the new P2P foundation logo and the new design - Are there shirts/stickers etc. with this design available? Are there high-resolution/vector versions of the logo and possibly other design elements available so these may be created? Kind regards, Raffael Kéménczy raffael(a)kemenczy.at www.kemenczy.at

Fw: [gang8] writedown debts?
by robert searle 05 Oct '12

05 Oct '12

----- Forwarded Message ----- From: Hugh Whinfrey <market(a)svarsmaal.dk> To: gang8(a)yahoogroups.com Sent: Friday, 5 October 2012, 11:46 Subject: Re: [gang8] writedown debts? Thanks Dirk. Keen's current business partner saw my original proposal for this methodology quite some time ago on another mailing list :-)) He later left it in a huff that I thought was a bit irrational. I'm starting to connect some dots now.... A couple other points I should make 1) I don't see where it is fully sufficient to confiscate the "weapons" of the 1 percent. The real issue is the disappearance of the middle class and that the middle class needs to be recapitalised - and if that can be done without the 1% standing in the way of the critical path of it, then the justification for pursuing it becomes one of ethics and practicality rather than absolute necessity. So what I had in mind was on the order of EUR 10,000 per year per taxpayer, or more, for a number of years. Young people in their 20s these days in both Euroland and the US are in an impossible situation without this kind of help, they are being marginalised before they even leave school.Which means that the 1% are otherwise going to have to fork out massive social transfer payments, and that's no way to run an economy. 2) One of the major problems we have encountered in the markets is shorting and naked shorting. It seems some jurisdictions allow the money received in a short sale to be spent and never, ever booked as profits if the short is never formally closed. So taxes are avoided, and operating capital is manufactured for nothing if the short is naked, particularly if the underlying is driven out of business. The issue is - what is the interrelationship of "debt forgiveness" with this practice. It *needs* clarification as it can look like simply a tax-avoidance and prosecution-avoidance endgame in relation to these practices. So the terms and conditions of what is going on with it need some work. Created out of thin air (we do know how to do that). >> >>Then take the existing taxation system, and drive it in reverse to dispense these credits to the individual taxpayers. The exact same tax-free sum for each taxpayer for each of these years. That is the crucial part. >> >>It must not be a token amount but rather an annual amount carefully calculated to actually fix a set of problems. >> >>So the mechanism to do these "helicopter drops" is already there. The income tax system can continue to operate as normal otherwise. This credit would be just another line item on the form and the (whopping) bottom line would then be refunded as usual. >> >>These annual amounts should be calculated so as to bring 'average' households with troubled mortgages and/or excessive debt down to a managable level. Households worse off than than this level will still fail and those better off will have a tidy surplus that will go into bank deposits that will provide the needed economic stimulus once lent out with all the attendant leverage involved. No individual can complain of unfair treatment and business can get back on its feet. The key there is that business entities have to earn their way out of any of their debt problems. With plenty of money around now for them to chase in 'the old-fashioned way', they will do so. Just let capitalism do its thing there and knock off the bailouts. Businesses that can't cut it in the 21st century need to die rather than be put on life support. So the garbage needs to be cleared away regardless. Bailing them out with subsidies doesn't achieve that and if we're doing some wholesale proverbial urban renewal then this is the time to do that. >> >>If this is done across the board in the EU, US and Japan simultaneously the relative currency effects within the block will not be particularly disruptive. Much dubious debt will actually be paid off because the debtors will have the cash to service and pay down the loans to more reasonable levels, i.e. even the businesses by wayof earnings. >> >>Yes, it will be somewhat inflationary, but the inflation will contribute to the solution too. Such a plan should at least allow us to avoid the hyperinflation endgame that probably is in the cards otherwise. And this is also why it should be spread over a pre-determined fixed period of years. The additional effect of this stimulus generating actual real economic activity should also work to contain the inflationary effects. >> >>I can note that this might mean some nasty things for bondholders. Although, I have severe doubts that rates will stay at zero forever, so that isn't in my opinion a sufficiently good objection to going forward with something like this, i.e. bondholders are ultimately going to take it on the chin anyway. >> >>Also, I would bet that politicians supporting and implementing this would find themselves on a fast inside track to re-election, which is a considerable point in its favour. A chicken in every pot works much better than confiscating the contents of a voter's pantry. >> >>About the only other thing I would add is that doing a major re-think of the educational system at the same time is probably appropriate too. The skills folks need for the future will be different. Self-sufficiency skills and business skills need to be taught beginning in the primary schools. At present we're just educating kids to live off of public assistance. Teach them how to fend for themselves and most will actually be able to do so. At the very least how to grow your own food, do basic accounting and some basic marketing/sales procedures. >> >>Hugh > __._,_.___ Reply to sender | Reply to group | Reply via web post | Start a New Topic Messages in this topic (10) Recent Activity: Visit Your Group The gang8 list is devoted to Creditary Economics.
