Mark: You and your compatriots on P2P view the world from revisionism. Go ahead and keep looking through your microscope-provided by your "teachers." Or take the time and read some very old documented evidence available at a library near you= but you may need to stay there awhile on microfiche. -----Original Message----- From: Mark Janssen Sent: Sunday, October 23, 2011 4:39 PM To: P2P Foundation mailing list Subject: Re: [P2P-F] Fw: Info On Sun, Oct 23, 2011 at 10:32 AM, Natalie Golovin <10natalie(a)cox.net> wrote: > The European Tribes treated the Natives no worse than they treated each > other. Whoa. You should really stop talking. You have NO idea what you're talking about. How about forced acculturation, not allowing them to speak their own language (which hold the record of their own history), confined them under threat of violent force into reservations, among other things. But, really, that's probably not even the worst of it -- the worst of it is that for reasons they couldn't ever understand is why you were doing all of these cruel things when they were willing to share it it all with you. Why, when they handed out their hand to be friends, you chopped it off. Remember, they're the ones who gave us Thanksgiving which is still "celebrated" in this nation today. Read the reports made of making first contact with the Native peoples here. You really should read up before propagating the attitudes of conquest. Fwd: Why Did Youtube Censor Us?

I watched the dashboard of our youtube studio closely as the video failed to perform and then, after an hour or so, as the video was removed by youtube. It had, according to them, “violated community standards on COVID.” That is, it was thought to have disputed the recommendations of the World Health Organization, specifically related to social distancing and social isolation. I appealed this action as the video did not dispute those recommendations. To be clear it is my opinion that masks are necessary. Lockdowns are often necessary. COVID is real and very dangerous. It’s much worse than the flu. However, despite the fact that anyone who watched the video and took in the argument being made within it would see that the video was not a critique of the World Health Organization nor an attempt to dispute their guidelines, our appeal of the decision to remove the video was rejected. For Zero Books as a youtube channel the takedown of our video and the attached warning, if we violate community standards again our channel could be entirely shut down, is worrying. We are in the position of having to second guess how the algorithm will interpret the videos we produce and what our guests say. Given how faulty the enforcement of community standards was this time producing videos tackling difficult subjects and engaging in ruthless criticism on youtube feels like a game of Russian Roulette. We are still hoping we can have the decision reversed and one of the aims of this video is to encourage viewers to get the word out, to use social media to alert people to the problem, and to communicate with Youtube that they’ve made a mistake. If you’re watching and want to help the channel please do share this video on social media and let people know what happened. The other aim of this video, however, is to figure out how we’ve arrived at a moment in history when nearly 2 billion people watch over a billion hours of youtube videos a day, a moment when four hundred million youtube users report that a platform curated by neural networks and machine learning, where editorial decisions are made by an algorithm that has a reading comprehension ability well below the average human, is very important to them as they attempt to understand what is happening in the world. We’ll take a look at Grafton Tanner’s critique of techno-utopianism from his upcoming book “The Circle and the Snake,” discuss the possibility of a rising anti-politics as explored in the upcoming book “The End of the End of History,” and take another stab at evaluating Christopher Lasch’s “The Agony of the Left.” [critical theory logo] It’s remarkable the degree to which history repeats itself. For the last thirty years, there have been multiple and increasingly loud objections to Fukuyama’s essay and book “The End of History,” a book that argued that, after the fall of the Berlin Wall, liberal democracy could be seen as the “end-point of mankind’s ideological evolution.” Thirty years before the collapse of communism another book, this one written by Daniel Bell, similarly announced that the development of ideologies had ended. And in his 1969 book “The Agony of the Left” Christopher Lasch took up this earlier end of history, evaluating both how the sixties had provided a refutation and a strange confirmation of Daniel Bell’s argument. Lasch was struck by the level of discontent there had been in the sixties. He noted that “The antiwar movement in the United States has grown to such proportions that it may prove impossible, in the future, to carry on American colonialism without resorting to wholesale repression at home.” And he noted that “riots threaten to become a permanent feature of urban life.” It is difficult to say whether it has become impossible to carry out colonial projects without wholesale repression at home as, even nearly 20 years after the attacks of September 11th, it is not clear just what counts as repression and what doesn’t. However we judge the consequence of the last 60 years of protest politics and direct action from the left, two facts are clear. First, the notion of an end of ideology has stuck around and gained traction, especially since 2016, and second, the dominant left is very nearly as anti-ideological as the right. This turn away from ideology came after the mainstream pronouncement of the death of ideology by Bell, but it did come. Lasch recognized it as taking two forms: The Radical Liberalism of Arnold Kaufman and the democratic socialism of Michael Harrington. In fact, Lasch characterized both men as radical liberals and recognized how both had emerged after the left had failed to revolutionize American society. In “The Death of Ideology” Bell, a self-described liberal, noted that the early 20th century socialists were ambivalent on the subject of reform, both taking up reformist demands as a means to be politically relevant and rejecting the reformist aims of their adversaries. In his book, Bell quotes Eugene Debs, who said the following during the election of 1896. “What but meaningless phrases are "imperialism," "expansion," "free silver," "gold standard," etc., to the wage worker? The large capitalists represented by Mr. McKinley and the small capitalists represented by Mr. Bryan are interested in these "issues," but they do not concern the working class.” For Bell, the Death of Ideology meant many things, but it definitely indicated that the spirit of Debs, his rejection of practical reforms, to a politics that accommodated itself to the realities of capitalism, was no either going or already gone. And in 1969 Lasch would agree with Bell’s assessment, even if he did not embrace the quietism of Bell, or the radical liberalism of those who symptomatically like Harrington and Kaufman, who pressed on as leftists even as the ideology of the left, the idea of revolutionary transformation that some like Bell would derisively call Messianic, had passed on. And this is what we should note at this moment, what I can’t help but notice as I read and reread the warning issued by Google after the takedown of our video. The death of at least the socialist ideology is a material fact that is operative in the world. And this fact is what two of our upcoming books are wrestling with or examining. In his book, the Circle and the Snake Grafton Tanner notices that capitalism is in the business of selling solutions to problems it creates, and those solutions, are increasingly technological. That is, while the ideology of socialism, or of overcoming capitalism and regrounding society on a new material foundation, has died, the dissatisfaction that had spurred on and justified socialist ideology, continues. As Lasch pointed out fifty years ago, the passive acceptance of society as it is was short-lived. What that leaves us with is a left project that, as The Aufhebunga Bunga gang (Alex Hochuli, Philip Cunliffe, and George Hoare) wrote in their upcoming *The End of the End of History* “understands the working class as the object of politics, with the welfare of the working-class majority to be improved through redistribution, large social projects, and economic development.” The old socialist idea that the working class is the subject of politics, that the working class had a political agenda that included self-government ultimately self abolition, has been driven back to near nonexistence. This is what we should understand when we consider the climate of censorship that we find online. Google, Facebook, the US government, and most other major institutions think of us not as politicized workers but as masses. We are conceived of as passive recipients of ideas and information and as the automatic generators and spreaders of memes and messages that must be analyzed and directed. Every post must be categorized and its path directed, based on an objective evaluation of its toxicity and/or authority. Every argument and fact shunted to the right demographic, not in order to keep an engaged citizenry informed, but in order to profit off of what can only be thought of as a kind of stasis. At this moment it’s worth considering how Lasch concluded his analysis of the sixties New Left and the radical liberal turn he witnessed. He wrote, “No matter what some militants think, a mass movement for radical change cannot grow up in a setting of repression. It demands that the avenues of discussion remain open, that limits be placed on the powers of the secret police and other agencies of “law enforcement,” and that the freedom to convince and persuade, in short, be protected both from vigilantes and from official attacks. So long as the “radical liberal” remains committed to the defense of these principles, he is the ally, not the enemy, of those who are seeking a deeper reconstruction of American life.” Back in 1969 Lasch may have had reason to be relatively confident that his liberal friends would remain allies, but fifty years later I think it is relatively clear that today’s radical liberals have firmly and resolutely abandoned these principles and are no longer to be treated as allies to those who seek a deeper or truly radical transformation of society. Instead, the task of would-be radicals must first be to disassociate with the radical liberals and their progressive allies in corporations and the state, even as we continue to operate within domains that are dominated by these factions within the capitalist order. Projects by P2P Foundation collaborator Rok Kranjc: Serious Gaming and beyond
by Michel Bauwens 25 Nov '20

25 Nov '20

---------- Forwarded message --------- From: Rok Kranjc <carniolanfox(a)gmail.com> Date: Mon, Nov 23, 2020 at 7:12 PM Subject: Re: limits To: Michel Bauwens <michelsub2004(a)gmail.com>I only hoped to relay a few projects I'm working on, very much aligned I believe with the spirit of your work - art, design, alternative economies, ecology, participation, games and co-design. Resources collated below signature. Happy to discuss them some time, if interested :-) Warm regards, Rok - *Game-Changers: The Game* a mixed digital and analogue generative board game and platform (description after list) - *Four Futures Festival + online Anticipedia* open-sourcing co-generated futures scenarios and scenario fragments to be creatively combined, and enacted as LARPs - *A Day in the Life: Public Luxury in 2035 <https://drive.google.com/file/d/1OIU-qQFvKc6ORaW9QBGyd6N_gd59N7S-/view?usp=…>* made and used to facilitate an exchange between local climate activists and George Monbiot, pdf worksheet attached - *Shared Futures <https://sharedfutures.app/> app and toolkit <https://sharedfutures.net/divistownsend/> *a work in progress, collaboration with dr. Peter Bloom - *Our Futures Game* <https://www.nesta.org.uk/feature/our-futures/> in collaboration with the Global Swarm <https://actionforesight.net/global-swarm/> and NESTA (recent Space Edition here <https://www.eventbrite.com/e/our-futures-a-game-about-participatory-futures…> ) --- 𝐆𝐚𝐦𝐞-𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐫𝐬: 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐆𝐚𝐦𝐞 by RoK Kranjc FREE OF CHARGE / No special knowledge or skills required, however for PLAYERS critical thinking and knowledge about alternative economies will be an advantage Game-Changers: The Game is a project twining alternatives to capitalism, theories of transformation, participatory futuring techniques and the codesign of generative games – digital, real-world and hybrid – as sites, platforms and protocols of and for transformative knowledge, design and foresight commoning. It is at once a story-telling board game and a game codesign springboard, created to engage player-designers in conversations about the various discourses underlying emerging »new economy« signifiers, such as sharing, smart, circular and collaborative. To advance in and ultimately win the game, two teams embodying seemingly diametrically opposite discursive poles – e.g. Commonism vs. Capitalism / Degrowth vs. Green Growth – compete in creating compelling social and sustainability transformation storylines in order to secure primacy over playing fields, consisting of real-world initiatives, proposals or ideas. Players shape these storylines by combining Challenge and Intervention cards (pre-made and impromptu-made) within distinct playing fields, while JUDGES assess these stories for their “Plausibility” and “Inventiveness”. The game operationalizes transition theories such as cooptation and Trojan horses as mechanics, and includes Wildcards, i.e. chance “external” events which may hold benefits for either team or in other ways alter the game’s dynamics. Participants in this workshop will get the chance to learn about new directions in futures game design and try out Game-Changers: The Game, developed over a dozen playtests around Europe at venues ranging from conferences, summer schools to research institutes and activist meetings.

It has developed a profile as a respected and widely-cited resource on the restructuring of work and the changing global division of labour and an international community has grown up around it. At a time when academic publishing is facing major new challenges, we are now formulating plans to take the journal forward in a way that makes it sustainable in the Open Access era, while staying faithful to our original aims. We are inviting you, as a member of our global community, to give us your views about how the journal should evolve in the future and help us develop initiatives that can open up new forms of dialogue among contributors and readers. As the number of unemployed people in the UK rise, and we are heading towards one of the greatest recessions in the history of capitalism, now is the time to think seriously about rethinking and rebuilding the welfare state for a broken country. In this book, leading analyst Ursula Huws proposes new and original policy ideas, including critical discussions of Universal Basic Income and new legislation for universal workers' rights, as well as outlining a 'digital welfare state' for the 21st century. These fresh ideas breathe new life into an outdated system, and herald the start of a new and urgent discussion that could improve the lives of millions. *Pluto Press are offering 35% off Reinventing the Welfare State for WOLG Newsletter subscribers. Fwd: Redemption and Messianic Return

His subtle, numinous essays make him a unique thinker of the 20th Century, impossible to categorize. He is one of my intellectual heroes; I recall a few of his insights or aphorisms nearly every day. In his writing, he left many puzzle pieces and crystalline shards to help us reflect on the secret workings of our world. Writing between World War One and Two, Benjamin foresaw humanity racing toward yet another catastrophic catharsis. He noted that humans possessed an innate need to "commingle" with the “cosmic forces”. If we don't find avenues for enacting this creatively and productively, through shared ritual and ceremony, it eventually happens destructively — convulsively — through wars and other mass disasters. While I was writing *How Soon Is Now <https://email.mg2.substack.com/c/eJwlUE1vhCAU_DVy0yDgxx44tNk03aTpZZseejEIb5…>*, I often thought of Benjamin’s idea. I wondered if humanity has subconsciously decided to ignore the ecological crisis until it spins out of control. Perhaps we seek an initiatory threshold as a species — a collective event that forces us to confront the raw cosmic powers that modern society, with its focus on material comforts, tries to suppress and subdue? Benjamin pointed out the need for initiation as both a societal and individual process. Advocating for the value — even the necessity — of exploring altered states of consciousness, he wrote brilliant essays about his personal experiments with hashish and mescaline. These, he felt, revealed secret domains of psychic experience. In his essay, “The Angel of History,” Benjamin explored the idea of an approaching messianic return or redemption. He wrote that each generation possesses a "weak messianic power," the latent potential for a collective transmutation of consciousness. When one generation doesn't fulfill this potential, they pass it onto the next, where it persists as humanity’s secret hope and inexpressible yearning. I felt that redemptive yearning when I visited Jerusalem; it seemed trapped, vibrating in each ancient stone. Benjamin wrote that this messianic return would be expressed, finally, as a change in our relationship to time. We might call this a movement from time as perpetual postponement to time as immanence. We would shift in our consciousness from feeling trapped in a linear, progressive, historical time conceived as an unvarying extension to realizing many other dimensions of time -- mythological, synchronic, and archaic time, as well as, in the philosopher Jean Gebser's phrase, the "ever present origin." Psychedelics give us immediate access to these other time-realizations, in particular the sense of time as completion -- as an extravagant masterpiece of artistry, where “all time is present now” and every moment is perfect in its holistic integrity. As I explored in books such as *2012: The Return of Quetzalcoatl* and *How Soon Is Now*, I tend to agree with 20th Century thinkers like Benjamin and Carl Jung who see, underlying the progression of historical events, an archetypal unfolding taking place within the collective Psyche. As a species, we seem to be driving toward something -- some inescapable culmination or collective realization. Our momentum keeps accelerating. This can be quite difficult, even overwhelming, to contemplate. I find it fascinating to watch the different forces that seem to be working, whether in dialectical opposition or collusion, toward whatever this end point may be. For instance, the engineers of Silicon Valley, gripped by their own quasi-religious faith in mechanization, believe we are heading for a technological Singularity where we fuse with our machines. Our transhuman destiny is to become part of the apparatus of a synthetic Artificial Intelligence that may have purposes totally different from our own. This supreme machine-mind might choose to keep us in zoos, or annex us without compunction. Christian Fundamentalists in the US, on the other hand, believe we are now in the time of Revelation and Apocalypse. They await the second coming of Jesus Christ. This messianic redemption will come in the form of an individual leader, while historical events proceed exactly as the literal text of Revelation of John proclaims. The faithful in Islam similarly anticipate the imminent coming of the Mahdi, “The Rightly Guided One,” a leader who will unite humanity in the last years before the End of Time and the completion of Allah's will. Everyone seems to be pushing toward their own version of the ascension or redemption or dimensional shift, or whatever we might call it. One of my pet hypotheses is that the evolution of human consciousness and civilization is, on another scale, also a kind of natural process, much like the development and birth of a fetus or the blossoming of a flower. There are certain things that must occur as part of the sequence, at particularly timed intervals — just as signals are transmitted from mother to developing baby in the womb at specific junctures, telling the fetus to start moving its limbs, organizing coherence in the developing brain, and so on. Similarly, we have seen roads, satellites, and the Internet developing rapidly, meshing humanity together as one “global brain” or “Noosphere.” Could the Coronavirus itself be one of these signals? I don’t see why not. While it was impossible to imagine before it happened, now that it is here, there seems to be a certain inevitability about it. It is forcing numerous transformations in human society and preparing us for the next future shocks. Various forces are using the pandemic to advance their own agendas — including the financial elite who flock to Davos for the World Economic Forum every year. This faction now promotes “The Great Reset,” a shift to a managed technocratic society that serves their interests by eliminating meaningful Democratic participation. In another essay, unpublished during his lifetime, Benjamin mused that Capitalism itself was a “religion of destruction.” While it promulgates an atheist ethos backed by the scientific materialist worldview, Capitalism, Benjamin argues, is actually an agonized cry against a universe devoid of meaning or transcendence. By accelerating the destruction of the Earth through industrialization and consumerism, Capitalism seeks to force the banished God to return, at the last possible moment, and reveal Him / Herself in His / Her Creation. I resonate with Benjamin’s excavation of this mythological structure underlying our profane and secular world: This yearning for redemption, this secret messianic impulse passed across generations, embedded in our economic system and technological drive toward dominance. Without acknowledging it, we sense we have our roles as part of a Mystery Play: We await the Great Reveal — that moment when the masks are pulled away and God shows us His / Her face. A deeply esoteric perspective that was once very distant and almost impossible to grasp seems to become more accessible to us with each passing year: As observers and witnesses, “we” — each of us individually; all of us collectively — are God or Brahma. We are that pure Consciousness, immortal and eternal, that “one without a second,” shattering itself into multitudinous individuated fragments of consciousness to explore its creativity, its capacity to love and feel, to choose an infinite number of pathways back toward unity or away toward fragmentation and disintegration. >From our individual, ego-based subjectivity, we believe we have free will. But as ancient Indian sacred texts like the Ashtavakra Gita <https://email.mg2.substack.com/c/eJwlkMluhDAMhp9mcisKIUByyKGXvgbK4gGLkNAsg3…> tell us emphatically, this is an illusion. We are not “doing” anything. It is all just happening: *“Since you have been bitten by the black snake of the self-opinion that 'I am the doer', drink the nectar of faith in the fact that 'I am not the doer', and be happy.”* It is conceivable that humanity is on the verge of bringing about our extinction as a physical species. Our self-annihilation could occur on a much faster time-scale than we generally let ourselves imagine. Many of my friends who belong to the Extinction Rebellion movement, after researching the climate science in depth, believe these are, in all likelihood, the last days of mankind. Of course, the time before extinction could be marked by decades or perhaps even centuries of collapse as our ecosystems sputter out and cease to function. We really don’t know the timescale at this point. Along with our nuclear and biological weapons, the biggest red flag is the potential release of vast stores of Methane, frozen under the thawing Siberian permafrost, that could push temperatures 3 or 4 degrees celsius warmer within a decade or two. So far, even dire predictions of the rate of change have fallen behind the actuality of what’s happening. The collapse of the world’s insect population <https://email.mg2.substack.com/c/eJwlkE2OwyAMhU9Tdon4SdpkwWI2c42IgJOgAZMB0y…> over the last decades is another canary in the coal mine. We have unleashed vast processes of destruction that we simply don’t understand. I brood over these ideas constantly. I have had many significant paranormal, psychic and shamanic experiences. Such episodes reveal that the nature of reality is far more permeable and malleable than we allow for. Extraordinary events that seem to violate natural “laws” do indeed occur. Such events reveal an underlying or implicate order, another set of principles that we don’t comprehend, as of yet. The occult has its own ethic and aesthetic. Increasingly, I feel this is the direction we must investigate. It is an area I intend to explore in future newsletters. <https://email.mg2.substack.com/c/eJxVUcuSpSAM_ZrrTgt5KC5YdHXV_IbFIypzFWzA7n…> It doesn’t seem to me that our global civilization would have reached this present level of complexity for nothing. From an evolutionary viewpoint, that would seem tragically wasteful and, spiritually, a kind of cruel joke. On the other hand, perhaps our civilization and species are no different than the elaborate pattern of a Tibetan sand mandala which gets thrown to the wind after its design is complete. Another lineage from Tibetan Buddhism is called Chöd. Chöd practicioners perform meditations in charnel grounds and graveyards. They envision offering their body to be devoured by demons and deities as a way of dissolving the ego. It almost feels like we chose to participate in a collective, global Chöd ceremony, just by being born into this time. I am still fascinated by many of the same ideas and themes that I explored fifteen years ago, in *2012: The Return of Quetzalcoatl*. Could we enter a new dimension of reality when enough people undergo a certain level of initiation? Does something shift when a vanguard of people has awakened to validate paranormal experience, synchronicity, and the “Reality of the Psyche” to the point where we can accept these as givens? From that foundation, could we collectively access hidden powers and invisible dimensions of being. Could we then apply these powers as new technologies for healing our world? Could this present generation on Earth be the one that accesses humanity’s latent messianic yearning, plugging into it as a psycho-electric current for collective transformation? I don’t know. But even at this late date, I remain curious and hopeful. ** I just published a new book, *Conspiranoia*, as an E Book on Amazon (Currently *“Number One New Release in Political Philosophy”*).
