Mark: You and your compatriots on P2P view the world from revisionism. Go ahead and keep looking through your microscope-provided by your "teachers." Or take the time and read some very old documented evidence available at a library near you= but you may need to stay there awhile on microfiche. -----Original Message----- From: Mark Janssen Sent: Sunday, October 23, 2011 4:39 PM To: P2P Foundation mailing list Subject: Re: [P2P-F] Fw: Info On Sun, Oct 23, 2011 at 10:32 AM, Natalie Golovin <10natalie(a)cox.net> wrote: > The European Tribes treated the Natives no worse than they treated each > other. Whoa. You should really stop talking. You have NO idea what you're talking about. How about forced acculturation, not allowing them to speak their own language (which hold the record of their own history), confined them under threat of violent force into reservations, among other things. But, really, that's probably not even the worst of it -- the worst of it is that for reasons they couldn't ever understand is why you were doing all of these cruel things when they were willing to share it it all with you. Why, when they handed out their hand to be friends, you chopped it off. Remember, they're the ones who gave us Thanksgiving which is still "celebrated" in this nation today. Read the reports made of making first contact with the Native peoples here. You really should read up before propagating the attitudes of conquest. While monasteries were often hotbeds for scientific advancement and many theologians were also fascinated with the empirical sciences, in the past century the church has often seemed more wary of new technologies than supportive. But the current Pope Francis, known for his open-minded and forward-thinking philosophy, has been "courting Silicon Valley for years," report Sigal Samuel and Josephine McKenna for *The Atlantic. *They suggest this recent collaboration between tech industries and the Vatican is partly because both sectors have an “image problem”—the Vatican for being regressive and tech for being unethical. But are their core values really aligned enough for a crossover? In one recent collaborative experiment, the Vatican sponsored a hackathon called VHacks, which convened 120 students from around the world to develop technology for social good. Social good is the emphasis of all Vatican tech initiatives thus far. And (given the recent major leaks about what Facebook is doing with our data) prompting Silicon Valley to weigh ethical decisions more carefully might be the ultimate benefit of these endeavors. Fwd: Team Human and Facebook
by Michel Bauwens 25 Mar '18

25 Mar '18

---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: <douglas(a)rushkoff.com> Date: Sun, Mar 25, 2018 at 6:23 PM Subject: Team Human and Facebook To: rushkoff(a)simplelists.com We’ve all had quite a week or two, between Facebook/Cambridge-Analytica, and all sorts of US government confusion. A lot of us who have been critical about social media surveillance for a long time felt vindicated by the most recent sets of revelations about how Facebook and its clients have attempted to arrest our collective cognitive functioning. But it’s small consolation, given how screwed up things feel. That said, the emergence of a thoughtful, humanistic, and determined teen-driven social movement is encouraging. Maybe, finally, the “screenagers" I thought would arise from the interactive era have arrived. And instead of expressing themselves through their screens, they’re using these platforms merely to organize - and the real world to express themselves. As for me, a lot has been happening. I posted four new Team Human shows <http://teamhuman.fm> recorded live at San Francisco’s Gray Area for the Arts historic Grand Theater in the Mission. These were two of my favorite evenings of all time, and I’m so glad they are preserved for posterity. They include interviews with Annalee Newitz <http://teamhuman.fm/episodes/ep-75-live-at-gray-area-pt-1-annalee-newitz/> , Howard Rheingold <http://teamhuman.fm/episodes/ep-76-live-from-gray-area-foundation-for-the-a…> , Lauren McCarthy <http://teamhuman.fm/episodes/ep-77-live-at-gray-area-night-two-pt-1-lauren-…> , Erik Davis, and Josette Melchor <http://teamhuman.fm/episodes/ep-78-live-at-gray-area-night-two-pt-2-erik-da…> as well as monologues that preview my upcoming TeamHuman manifesto. Yes - the book is done! I love it - which I don’t usually say. It will come out in January from WWNorton. It feels like years away, but I’m guessing the world will be even more ready to reclaim its humanity in a few months. Being early hasn’t always been a great strategy for me, anyway. I also wrote two OpEds about the Facebook revelations. Old news, of course, but new confirmation and public outrage. I’ll paste both below, so you can see the difference in the way this gets framed for CNN vs. the way it does for the LATimes Sunday section. Again, this is stuff I was writing in Program or Be Programmed back in 2011, or Coercion back in 1999. But it took twenty years for people to believe it was possible, I think. Have a good week; I’ll try to make this a weekly correspondence from now on. My best advice right now is to focus on the positive. Think of ways to say yes. There’s so much pre-emptive negativity going around right now, and I totally get how it may feel safer to dismiss new possibilities than to hope for something that doesn’t work out. But if you’re still alive, it means you can still speculate, reach for the light, and support others trying to do the same. *CNN: I ditched Facebook in 2013, and it's been fine* *Douglas Rushkoff * You can ditch Facebook. It's OK. You will survive. And not only will you get through it, but your life will get better. This month's revelations that Facebook had sold, released or lost control of millions of users' data has left many people wanting out -- but wondering whether they can leave the social media platform they and hundreds of millions of others around the globe depend on. I'm here to tell you can. I left Facebook in 2013, declaring here on CNN that "we are not the customers, we are the product." And we now have proof this is true. Facebook was not breached or hacked by Cambridge Analytica. The Facebook platform was doing exactly what it is programmed to do: Harvest our data, identify our psychological triggers and then manipulate our behavior. As users are finally realizing, neither Facebook nor the compliance professionals purchasing your data from them care about your secrets or your sex life. They care only about your raw data, from which they can infer your psychological vulnerabilities. It's not simply that they can get us to buy a particular product, or vote for one candidate or another. It's that the techniques they are using intentionally bypass our higher brain functions. They use imagery and language specifically designed to evade our logic and empathy, and go straight to our reptilian survival instincts. Our neuroses are like blind spots. Once identified by the social media psychologist, they become access panels to the more impulsive parts of our brains. Facebook can target and trigger us through terror. The network's techniques don't appeal to our logic or empathy, but to our deepest-held fears. Their tactics are aimed directly at our brain stems -- the part of our brain that acts and thinks like a reptile: Fight or flight. Kill or be killed. We've seen the impact of this technology on our social and political discourse. We may have real things to be angry about, but when these are the only stimuli delivered by our social media, we can end up living in a state of perpetual paranoia and rage. No, it's not fun. But it's also a tremendous public health hazard and threat to democracy. Democracy requires an informed, thinking public. So, whether you want to be a more responsible citizen, or simply a happier person, you owe it yourself to get off Facebook any way you can. And I'm here to tell you, you can do it. You are going to be OK. It's not so bad. In fact, it's better. First off, you won't be pinged by those friends from second grade whom you have spent the last 40 years trying to forget. Is that sad? Maybe. Until we migrate to a less corrupted online directory of names and emails, people you no longer know may have a harder time locating you. But that means you will be forced to spend your time and energy interacting with people who are in your life. Real world interactions allow you to establish rapport and bond in ways that just don't happen online. Several hundred thousand years of human evolution have been dedicated to face-to-face interaction. That's the only way for pro-social hormones such as oxytocin to get released into the bloodstream instead of the stress hormones, such as cortisol, which are released by social media use. If the teenagers in your life can't reach you through social media, they will ultimately use it less. The less they use social media, the less likely they may be to be depressed or commit suicide. Another great ancillary benefit of getting off Facebook. Facebook's useful function is that it lets us find and communicate with people -- like an interactive phone book. Luckily, there are many ways to gain that same utility, without making ourselves so vulnerable to psyops. If Facebook is the only way your relatives let you interact with them, then that's already a problem. Accepting this restriction on your relationships is acquiescing to a system that values pings more than contact. You can still email, Skype and FaceTime, share photos through web pages, iCloud and photo streams, and create Google groups and live hangouts. But even more important and fulfilling, you should accept fewer substitutes for getting together with your loved ones in real life. You also get your time back. Every minute off Facebook is a minute you can choose to spend with another person, forging psychologically healthy relationships instead of submitting to a company that is actively trying to undermine them. Best of all, you get to live life free of the constant psychological abuse inflicted by companies that mean to undermine your social relationships, and governments that mean to undermine your faith in democracy, government and human nature. You get to leave the dark place, and step back into the light of day. Pressuring Facebook in this way also serves those who may be less privileged than you -- people whose home loans, parole hearings and immigration status is affected by the data they thought they were sharing in confidence through social networks such as Facebook. Recently, China revealed how their citizens' social media connections and "likes" are used to determine their eligibility for jobs and visas. You say, "That can't happen here," but it is already beginning. And if we are still a free country, then you should feel free to leave Facebook without consequence. You can do it. I know you can. *Los Angeles Times: How Facebook Exploited Us All* *Douglas Rushkoff * It's even worse than I feared. I left Facebook in 2013, less for my own sake than for what my presence on the service was doing to others. I knew that anyone who "liked" my page could have their data harvested in ways they wouldn't necessarily approve. Over the past five years, people have not only become aware of this devil's bargain but accepted it as the internet's price of admission."So what if they have my data," I saw a graduate student ask her professor this week. "Why is my privacy so important?" Bully for you if you don't care what Facebook's algorithms know about your sex life or health history, but that's not the real threat. Neither Facebook nor the marketers buying your data particularly care about what you do with your clothes off, whom you're cheating with or any other sordid details you may find embarrassing. That's the great fiction of social media: That you matter as a person. You don't. The platform cares only about your metadata, from which they can construct a psychological profile and then manipulate your behavior. They have been using and selling even the stuff you thought you were sharing confidentially with your friends in order to identify your neuroses and neurotic vulnerabilities and leverage them against you. That's what Facebook markets to its customers. The company has been doing it ever since its investors realized that, as owners of a mere social network, they would become only multi-millionaires; to become billionaires, they'd have to offer something more than our attention to ads. So they sold access to our brain stem. With 2.2 billion active users, Facebook knew it had a big-data gold mine. While we've been busily shielding what we think of as our "personal" data, Facebook has been analyzing the stuff we think doesn't matter: our clicks, likes and posts, as well as the frequency with which we make them. Looking at this metadata, Facebook, its psychologists and its clients put us into different psychographic "buckets." That's how they came to be able to predict, with about 80% accuracy, our future behaviors, including whether we're going to go on a diet, vote for a particular candidate or announce a change in sexual orientation. From there, the challenge is to compel the lagging 20% to fall in line — to get all the people who should be going on a diet or voting for a particular candidate to conform to what the algorithms have predicted. That's where companies like Cambridge Analytica come in. They paid thousands of people to take psychology tests and to surrender their own and their friends' Facebook data. Then they compared all this data to infer how each of us would have answered that psychology test. Armed with our real or algorithmically determined psychological profiles, Cambridge Analytica surmised our individual neurotic makeups. And they figured out how to terrify each and every one of us. That's the greater collateral damage of social media. It's not simply that they can get us to buy a particular product or vote for one candidate or another. It's that their techniques bypass our higher brain functions. They use imagery and language specifically designed to evade our logic and empathy and appeal straight to our reptilian survival instincts. These more primitive brain regions respond only to primitive stimulus: fear, hate and tribalism. It's the part of us that gets activated when we see a car crash or a horror movie. That's the state of mind these platforms want us to be in, because that's when we are most easily manipulated. Yes, we've been manipulated by ads for a century now. But TV and other forms of advertising generally happened in public. We all saw the same commercials, and they often cost so much that companies knew they had to get them right. Television networks would themselves censor ads that they felt would alienate their viewers or make fraudulent claims. It was manipulative, but for the most part, consumer advertising was aspirational. Facebook figures out who or what each of us fears most, and then sells that information to the creators of false memes and the like, who deliver those fears directly to our news feeds. This, in turn, makes the world a more fearful, hostile and dangerous place. To ask why one should care is a luxury of privilege. Data harvesting arguably matters most when it's used against the economically disadvantaged. It's not just in China that social media data are used to evaluate credit worthiness and immigration status. By normalizing the harvesting of data, those of us with little to fear imperil the most vulnerable. When Mark Zuckerberg started Facebook, a friend of his expressed surprise that people were surrendering so much personal data to the platform. “I don’t know why,” Zuckerberg said. “They trust me. Dumb ...” We may have been dumb to trust Facebook with our data in the first place. Now we know they've been using the data to make us even dumber. While there's certainly a lot that goes into building a blockchain-based ecosystem model, the end user experience on Civil <https://joincivil.us15.list-manage.com/track/click?u=b9aca766711cb383cd6129…> will be extremely intuitive and straightforward. Readers will be able to access content, and support it in any currency they choose. Journalists will be able to seamlessly write content to the Ethereum blockchain. So, what makes us unique? Ethereum unlocks two key business features for journalists: - *Self-governance*: the ability to incentivize good content and make it prohibitively expensive for trolls, spam and misinformation to persist on the platform. - *Permanence: *articles published on Ethereum are virtually impossible to delete, as they live in a distributed ledger that runs across hundreds of thousands of independent computers. For more on how this model works, we've outlined a concept known as “The Waterline”. <https://joincivil.us15.list-manage.com/track/click?u=b9aca766711cb383cd6129…> Think Wikipedia meets Woodward and Bernstein — all powered by a robust, underlying economy of token holders incentivized to promote good content and discourage bad actors. Introducing a new journalism funding model is an ambitious problem to try to solve — and also an incredibly important one. To help realize our vision, we've built a core team <https://joincivil.us15.list-manage.com/track/click?u=b9aca766711cb383cd6129…> of top blockchain engineering and design talent, as well as former journalists and marketers to ensure we always maintain a “journalism first” approach. We've also partnered with some of the brightest minds from the blockchain, journalism and legal worlds to ensure we've got the support needed to do something on such a grand scale. *Blockchain* *Civil is backed by ConsenSys <https://joincivil.us15.list-manage.com/track/click?u=b9aca766711cb383cd6129…>, the world's largest Ethereum venture studio — and founded by Joseph Lubin, also an Ethereum co-founder. Our engineering team has worked extremely closely with ConsenSys to develop a token-based system for self-governance that rewards good content, and introduces incentives to keep lower quality content (including spam and deliberate misinformation) out of Civil's marketplace. We've also partnered with CoinFund <https://joincivil.us15.list-manage.com/track/click?u=b9aca766711cb383cd6129…>, a leading cryptoasset advisor, on our token design.* *Journalism* *Civil has a close partnership with Old Town Media <https://joincivil.us15.list-manage.com/track/click?u=b9aca766711cb383cd6129…>, a media advisory firm founded by ex-POLITICO editors. They've ensured we apply a journalist's mindset to every business decision we make from day one. They've also been instrumental helping to recruit Civil's “First Fleet” of journalists and ensuring that we have a wealth of quality content to publish on day one.* The convergence of blockchain and journalism offers tremendous potential for introducing an innovative, new funding model. Interested citizens can not only curate good content, but be economically rewarded for it — and for identifying and rejecting bad content. This lends to a model that will yield a trusted marketplace for quality journalism, and one which is prohibitively difficult for bad actors to penetrate. Fwd: FROM RAJANI: INTERVIEW WITH DR. AMIT GOSWAMI, QUANTUM PHYSICIST
by Michel Bauwens 19 Mar '18

19 Mar '18

---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: r kanth <involutegandhian(a)gmail.com> Date: Sat, Mar 17, 2018 at 2:13 AM Subject: Fwd: FROM RAJANI: INTERVIEW WITH DR. AMIT GOSWAMI, QUANTUM PHYSICIST To: Michel Bauwens <michelsub2004(a)gmail.com> *This is the 2nd in a proposed Series of Interviews exploring New Ideas that may, perhaps, serve as salves for our troubled times.* *The queries are mine, the responses Amit's.* *Rajani* * IDEAS FOR OUR TIMES (II)* *INTERVIEW: * *Dr . Amit Goswami* *THEMES: Quantum Physics, Consciousness, and the Human * * Condition* [*Queried by Professor Rajani Kanth]* 1. *Explain what you mean by your Key Phrase: "Consciousness is the Ground of Being".* Quantum physics indicates that material being arises from *possibilities*, possibilities of consciousness. Consciousness is the ground of all being is a generalization. *All manifest being—sensing, thinking, feeling, intuition—arises from consciousness.* *2. How does that differ from any Other extant view of Consciousness , or Being?* The idea of a “ground” different from space and time is experimentally verified in quantum physics defined by instantaneous signal-less communication or nonlocality (space and time is local; communication requires signals taking time). Nonlocality translates as *unity*—*oneness of everything* for this domain of potentiality or consciousness. Except for the wisdom traditions, nobody talks about consciousness this way. *3. How did you chance upon that novel idea?* While I was having a heated argument with a mystic friend. In retrospect, the idea was the culmination of a creative process that extended over about ten years. *4. You reject Scientific Materialism: why? * *Nonlocality, an experimental fact, simply rules it out. * We have “transferred potential experiments (replicated in many laboratories all over the world) which show that electrical potential can be transferred from one brain to another provided the two subjects are able to hold the meditative intention that they will have direct communication. Even neuroscience experiments are now supporting the new view of consciousness and how it manifests in the brain as a self. Besides, there are so many experiential reasons. *5. Does Q. Physics really displace classical (Newtonian) physics?. Where, and why? * *Yes, quantum physics really does replace Newtonian physics for all matter, micro and macro*. However, for the macroworld, Newtonian predictions approximately hold; in this way materialists can argue if quantum physics has enough effect in a macro-object like a brain for consciousness to be relevant. I have shown that living matter is quantum because it is nonlocally correlated with what is called *subtle bodies*—potentialities that give rise to our subtle experiences of feeling and thinking. *6. Is it true the old Physics was deterministic whereas the new Physics is probabilistic? Does that matter? Why?* *Yes, it is true. * *Quantum objects are waves of possibility. * It matters when we realize that these waves reside not in space and time defined by locality but in another domain outside space and time defined by nonlocality and oneness. *This oneness is consciousness.* *7.The social sciences have always suffered from 'physics envy': are they justified?* *I don’t know! * I guess the physics envy comes from the fact that physics is mathematical; but in all their efforts nobody has been successful in developing a mathematic macroeconomics that work. In the new paradigm, social science no longer is constrained to be deterministic. Freedom is back! They can relax. *Mathematics does not apply to social sciences.* *8. There is a lot of 'quirkiness' to Q. Physics, in the popular mind: pl. explain.* *There is no quirkiness to quantum physics. * All the quirkiness is in the mind of scientific materialists. *If you have the wrong lens, reality looks muddles up, paradoxical.* *9. You have produced works that extend the Quantum notion to Economics, Biology, et. al. Is that valid**?* Those are natural extension to make these sciences apply to conscious beings like humans who have freedom, who have nonmaterial experiences, even experiences of a self separate from the world. *Right now, what we call biology or economics only apply to machines.* We live in a topsy-turvy world in which biologists fight phantom creationists rather than recognize that neo-Darwinism does not explain fossil gaps or the purposiveness of evolution revealed in fossils data evolving from simple to complex. I wrote a book Creative evolution which explain all the data on evolution. Materialists hold on to the notion that quantum physics is for the micro reality; it does not apply to the macro. But life, a biological organ, is coupled to “subtle bodies” – subtle movements that we feel or think. It is these subtle movements that are quantum; the physical organ becomes quantum by virtue of nonlocal correlation with the subtle. It is all explained in the book quoted above. *10. You were featured in a film called 'What the Bleep Do We Know?": your critics felt that you turned science into vulgar populism (activism) thereafter? How do you react?* *Amusement*, as I look at Trump today. Scientific materialists created the idea of “fake news.” Just as we have to turn back Trumpism with political activism, so also with quantum activism we turn back scientific materialism. It is slow, but we are gaining traction. *11. You argue that so-called 'Non-Locality' proves the existence of another domain beyond space-time? Pl. explain.* I already explained it above, see answer to Q2. Nonlocality—*signal-less communication*--confirms that quantum potentiality resides in a definably different domain of reality, different from space and time where locality reigns. *11. But there is no meaningful communication at all in the 'non-locality' experiments that you cite. So why is it important?* *This is pure misunderstanding. * Somebody proved a theorem that information cannot be transferred via nonlocality; but the theorem is valid if interactions are all material. When consciousness and conscious choice enters the picture, the theorem is no longer valid. *12. Does that also imply that Telepathy, ESP, etc., are all valid?* *It sure does,* as I have argued in my book *God is not Dead.* These ideas are experientially verified by millions of people every day; even many scientists tacitly accept their existence. But the official position of American physical society does not change. How dogmatic is that? *13. You suggest Jesus, Buddha, et. al, were all on the right track: what do you mean? Does God exist?* *Careful about that word God! * For most Christians, God is a super-duper human being sitting on a throne in heaven doling out rewards and punishments, don’t forget; this is not a scientific picture and materialists are justified fighting it. God of quantum science, if you insist on using the word and as I have used that word in my book quoted above, is *unity consciousness.* *14. But are Science and Religion compatible, in your Quantum frame?* Quantum science is compatible with religion in its esoteric core (where unity consciousness is recognized as the ground of being) but not with exoteric religions of popular understanding where unity consciousness is caricatured by so-called monotheistic concepts of God etc. This is a huge problem. Do we throw the baby out because of the dirty bathwater? *15. Pl. explain the particle/wave distinction: why do you think that matter exists in a domain of possibilities prior to the 'wave-function' 'collapsing', via sentient observation**.* Particles can exist only at one place at a time; waves can be in many different places at the same time. Obviously they cannot co-exist in the same domain of reality. *There is no wave-particle duality in quantum physics except in the materialists’ mind.* Quantum math clearly says quantum objects are waves. To connect quantum math with experiment, we have to invoke measurement which converts waves into particle. And measurement cannot be defined without sentient observer. Scientific materialists refuse to understand what John von Neumann and later I clarified long ago. Quantum measurement is about how the unity (consciousness) splits into two: subject (observer) and object. *To understand quantum physics, you have to understand and include the subject in your philosophy*. Materialists can’t, they are stuck with only objects. When you have only a “hammer” in your hand, you go on insisting that the word is “nails.” *16. If the Observer is so important, then is it an Anthropic universe? What about the distinction between observer/observed so important to scientific realism?* It is an anthropic universe, and why do people prefer a machine universe? There is also that well-argued anthropic principle. Scientific realism cannot stand the idea of observer. *17. What do you mean by a 'Self-Aware' universe, the title of your major work?* That the universe is self-aware through us, manifest through us; only we living beings experience the universe which exists only in our ongoing experiences. We are here because of the universe, no doubt; *but the universe is here because of us.* *18. Who agrees with you in the Scientific Community?* Among big name physicists, there are only a few such as Henry Stapp and Casey Blood, maybe Fred Alan Wolf, too. But I have huge following in the healing community, both physical healers including mainstream doctors, and psychologists. I was deeply touched when the famous psychiatrist and consciousness researcher Stan Grof, at a conference in Prague, openly acknowledged my work and quantum science having given the scientific basis for transpersonal psychology, a brain child of his and others. *I think only the descendants of what you call Euromodernism are the major hold-outs. * *19. How does traditional Darwinian Evolution fit in with your Quantum views?* *Like a sore thumb. * I have already referred to my book called *Creative Evolution* above correcting the shortcomings of Darwinism with a consciousness view of evolution. Darwinism is like Newtonian physics in the new biology; it holds for evolution within a species or small changes of microevolution. *To understand macroevolution, you got to bring in quantum leaps.* *20. Is there a Crisis in Physics with Newtonians, Einsteinians, and Q. Physicists, all disagreeing about fundamentals?* Yeah, the antagonists all disagree that subjects exist, that living beings exist, beyond what their little lens allows them to see. *Oh, where is Paul Dirac now who said, In order to see a great new truth, you have to give up a great old prejudice*. Scientific materialists have to give up materialism; it is not compatible with experiments. There is a domain of nonlocality; there also are nonmaterial “stuff,” both ideas verified by experimental data. Let us be scientific, folks. *21. You have also stepped - trespassed? - into the domain of healing. What is Quantum Healing?* Quantum healing consists of quantum leaps of healing, producing a discontinuous leap from disease to wellness. I have shown that the creative process can lead to quantum healing and that idea, too, is being verified as large number of people are using it to get healed. *22. You suggest that ancient Indian and Chinese philosophy (yoga, chi, chakras, ayurveda , etc ) have useful insights to offer us: what do you mean?* *They do*, but you have to accept the idea of nonphysical subtle objects to see the cogency of these philosophies and practices. Yog, Ayurveda, TCM, are all about movements of *vital energy,* a nonphysical energy connected with purposive functions of life. It is possible to *measure* these energies now; that should end the debate. *23. Do you still see yourself as a normal scientist, carrying on scientific research?* *Yes, of course. * I am a normal scientist without abnormal lens on the eyes. *24. Is there any scientific caution you adopt toward your own notion of 'consciousness is the ground of being': is it, e.g., disprovable? How?* *Of course.* Recent neuroscience studies of people who delve into loving kindness creative and meditative practices for a long time are showing nonlocality in the brain that signifies that these people “live” in nonlocal consciousness. All materialists need to do is to find explanation of these data without resorting to nonlocality to “disprove” the idea of nonlocal consciousness. *25. What do you think of Transhumanism? Does it use any Q. insights?* It would be better for it if it did. *25. Is there a website you can direct the curious to ?* Yes, thanks. *amitgoswami.org <http://amitgoswami.org>* *26. Name your most important works**.* *The Self-Aware Universe; Physics of the Soul; The Quantum Doctor; Creative Evolution; How Quantum Activism can Save Civilization; Quantum Creativity; Quantum economics;* and the upcoming *The Quantum science of Happiness*. *25. What is the biggest danger facing humankind today, in your opinion?* I am not oblivious of the perils of global climate change, terrorism, Trumpism, failed economics, and all that. *It may sound far-fetched, but please note that scientific materialism contributed to all of these potential disasters*. Also, please note that adapting a quantum worldview in our society will go a long way toward correcting the trend. *My book How Quantum Activism can save Civilization *gives all the details. *24. What is the future of your own interpretation of Q. Physics?* *It is experimentally verified. * Transferred potential from brain to brain, nonlocal self modality in the brain, those are replicated data. *Experimentally verified scientific ideas are forever. * *[©R.Kanth, 2018] * -- P2P Foundation: http://p2pfoundation.net - http://blog.p2pfoundation.net Connect: http://p2pfoundation.ning.com; Discuss: http://lists.ourproject.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/p2p-foundation Updates: http://del.icio.us/mbauwens; http://friendfeed.com/mbauwens; http://twitter.com/mbauwens; http://www.facebook.com/mbauwens

But to be clearer indeed on the application potential among a federation of co-ops locally see also Jon's analysis of how Mondragon and VSM combined analysis shows the incredible power of network governance that Mondragon has uniquely developed. This is Jon's treatment of the problems with lack of co-ordination among food co-ops in the UK. Jon wrote this in the 1990s but really so relevant indeed today to the commons, co-op and solidarity economy convergence work in Barcelona, Ghent and in other cities. http://www.esrad.org.uk/resources/vsmg_3/screen.php?page=10appfed Suma is still going strong in the UK as a worker co-op with over 200 worker owners and they are all on equal pay - they pay double the rate for rank and file workers in the food wholesale sector and they are a Union Co-op and have been since 1985 with Bakers Union. What you get with Mondragon is local density in a territory so if we are thinking about public-co-op-commons partnerships in cities and towns we need the VSM tool for moving from chaotic competition to aligned democratic governance. I have added in Michel, Stacco and David as well as Margie. Jon's two papers are very relevant also to GSEF work on solidarity economy development in cities. We need to involve Jon Walker to teach on Synergia as he is so good at teaching. He and Angela Espinosa have been working in Cuba to advance co-op development with the University of Havana. With Co-operatives UK, the Co-perative College and the Wales Co-op Center we are to launch on 20 March in Cardiff our third policy report on Trade union and co-op innovations for precarious work. Report is all done and we are working on the press release and summary articles for the media. Interesting to me about the Rowthorn chapter here is his SWOT analysis of the Alternative Economic Strategy (AES). http://banmarchive.org.uk/collections/mt/pdf/81_01_04.pdf AES for its time was strong on a macro-analyis but only for the UK. It did not include an appraisal of the emerging social, ecological and feminist movements and demands/innovations at that time. Though the Lucas Alternative Corporate Plan picked up on this as did the Greater London Council Industrial Strategy that was in touch with Emilia Romagna activists. Italy passed enabling legislation to advance economic democracy and multi-stakeholder co-ops like the Marcora Law in 1985 and the Social Co-op law in 1991. But Kondratiev analysis shows that an undercurrent of previous innovations (the counter movement of Polanyi) in the preceding K-wave are developed to potentially align with the next K-wave for a root and branch paradigm shift. The mixed economy welfare state post 1945 was one of these. So as we can see looking back to the last major conjuncture that renewable energy, organic farming, social co-ops, community land trusts were all embryonic and emerging in the 1970s, denied scope since then to scale up or spread, but they are all now proven systems. An updated AES could map out the potential with a shift in policy focus away from industrial methods of production to co-op commons modes of social reproduction as Massimo De Angelis shows in his blending of Ostrom with Marx. De Angelis is very weak on co-op economics and is silent on public-co-op commons partnership but we can fill all those gaps in. We need this for Synergia and for the Commons Transition Plan. Certainly feels right to me, as, even though we need deep structural change, the general mood of the population remains very reform oriented. Alex, perhaps you could explain this, or excerpt the passages from your book ? Michel On Sat, Mar 3, 2018 at 7:11 PM, pat commonfutures < pat.commonfutures(a)phonecoop.coop> wrote: Hi Mike, John, Michel, Mike and David A PS to my comments further below. Thinking about Synergia and how to frame the pedagogy, as I said in my previous email further below, the present capital accumulation crisis needs to be seen viz. Kondratiev technological shifts. The stagflation crisis created major political challenges from the left in the 1970s in Chile, Portugal, Italy, Spain and the UK. Tony Benn moved left in 1971 and joined the Institute for Workers Control and backed the Factory Occupation by the Clydeside Ship Builders trade unions when the Tories tried to close down the works. After the OPEC Oil Crisis and the Three Day week in 1974 the Tories lost to Labour and Benn was appointed Industry Minister and pushed through the Industrial Common Ownership Act in 1976. This was a big step to put economic democracy and common ownership solutions on the policy and action agenda. Emilia Romagna and Berlinguer were moving in the same direction then. Schumacher had written about economic democracy and regional funds for industry transfers in his last chapter in Small is Beautiful just before then. When the IMF and US bankers put the squeeze on the new Labour government to throttle this, Benn developed the Alternative Economic Strategy in 1976. It was published but not backed by Callaghan but very popular with trade union shop stewards and grassroots Labour members like Corbyn is today. This analysis by Bob Rowthorn in 1981 of the AES is really profound and relevant to our time with all the work on Next Systems ideas and plans - not fully cohesive though yet as it needs to become. This essay can help us. http://banmarchive.org.uk/collections/mt/pdf/81_01_04.pdf Rowthorn is a Cambridge U economist (highly respected by other economists and business schools) and analyses well the weaknesses of the AES, the problems with the Marxist left (oppositional not propositional) for the most part and also the strengths of the AES for pedagogical, confidence building purposes and for laying down a set of practical paradigm shifting plans to meet real needs and to rally heads, hearts and minds for a future opportunity ahead. Given that Corbyn was in the Benn group this is a relevant essay. It is only half a dozen pages. A real Gramscian quality to this analysis. I think John this essay could be useful to us viz. planning the Synergia articles for New Internationalists and how to contextualise public-co-op-commons partnerships and build links with trade unions and other movements. You will like this Mike L, note the critique of Rowthorn that AES is flawed as it did not address the women's movement, ecological and energy questions at all. Also as he shows it did not embrace the radical work of Mike Cooley and the Lucas Aerospace Alternative Corporate Plan. However Benn was supportive of Cooley's efforts. But also do note that shortly after this article was produced, the work of Robin Murray at the GLC developed Popular Planning and Technology Networks that through the hefty 600 page plus London Industrial Strategy addressed all the weaknesses Rowthorn highlights. I love the way you layer your argument. It makes your final section so powerful and well contextualised. Excellent crafted work. It resonates also with my paper for Henry Tam. I love your use Mike G. of revisionist history (EP Thompson, Hobsbawm, Christopher Hill and others) and the French Annales School. Interesting to note that RH Tawney was an Oxford historian and so was GDH Cole. Thus guild socialism has this bottom up history roots but also a connection to the trade union and co-op movements and the militancy leading up to the 1926 General Strike. You raise a key question for us Mike L. Mike's citation of the French historian Braudel is helpful and his three frames of examing how difference systems change over time. There is the slow change of say 250- 500 years of the longue duree of climate shifts but also mentality shifts as we saw in the voyages of Colombus/Reformation, then 250 years or so later the Industrial Revolution and today with the second Machine Age. Hobsbawm's book on the Age of Revolution 1789 to 1848 is a classic and such craftsmanship as over this period across Europe he follows in separate chapters the technical shifts, the changing ideas in resistance to industrial society, the counter movement of class struggle, the political clashes, the changes in culture, in literature in philosophy and in science. >From this book you can see Braudel's Moyen, medium term, shifts of 40-60 years and this is where the analysis by first Kondratiev and then shortly later Schumpeter looked more analytically at the long term business cycles of capitalism (K-waves named afer Kondratiev) when the conjunctures occur. To consider here Marx who informed Kondratiev and Schumpeter, these are the periods in my paper and linked to changes in what Marx called the accumulation crisis of capitalism when the system is breaking down and out of gas. You then have a contest of Way Forward being expressed and contested. The counter movement of Polanyi rises to the surface. The fight is on over the mix of productive forces (technical methods, technological infrastructure, science, financial methods, sources of energy, etc). As Mike G shows so well, these are also tied up by shifts in policy, power elite decisions etc that are responding to class struggle. In the 1920s Italian ruling class backed fascism and authoritarian planning, German ruling class follows in 1933 while US elite back FDR then and ideas from Keynes. So to take my paper, Bertrand Russell and RH Tawney pushed for Guild Socialism as a deeper form of democracy, ownership and control but also against the hire purchase, consumer culture emerging in the 1920s. They lost out to the centralising and controlling forces of Fordism. Shift forward 50 years and you have the end of a colossal expensive war for the USA, Vietnam, a revolt like in the post 1918 period from 1968, and also an accumulation crisis of capital. Trade unions are two strong and want to maintain and extend their equitable share. Working class and middle class women are not so much in the workplace. Then the Opec oil crisis hits in 1974, the accumulation of Arab petrodollars in London and Wall Street banks become a rising wall of money and Kissenger does a deal with the King of Saudi Arabia to buy arms for oil to recycle them and the concept of Financialisation is hatched with the help of Hayek and Friedman's deregulation policies to open widely the debt driven consumer, credit card, homeownership and privatisation of public industries boom. The miners had to be defeated and Thatcher did this and after 1989 trade unionism and democratic socialism and more radical post Keynesian ideas are all repressed until they begin to resurface from 2010. Thatcherism also shuts down a reviving form of guild socialism and the work of Robin Murray and the GLC. All highly inspired by Ivan Illich, Schumacher mixed up with an updated cultural Marxism - aka Stuart Hall and his cultural studies work at the University of Birmingham in the 1970s and 1980s. All the above for contextualisation is highly relevant to Synergia. In the past five years before he died, Robin Murray was teaching at the LSE with Carlota Perez (a Schumpeterian) on how to analyse the present by using K-Wave theory. Kondratiev is really important for us. He was not a Bolshevik but a Socialist Revolutionary and more of a Russian equivalent of a guild socialist. The Bolsheviks brought back ideas like Kondratiev's to develop their New Economic Policy and Lenin had to revive the co-ops to get the Russian economy going again after War Communism strangled any economic democracy ideas. My further two cents as you asked for Mike L. Pat On 01 March 2018 at 05:27 Michael Lewis < Lewiscccr(a)shaw.ca> wrote: Hi Mike G - Your paper prompted some reflections. Take a look. A question at the end for you. I think your raising of the usefulness of history to transition planning and my note below are reflective of why we need to keep working at the reframing issues. I would be interested to hear your perspective Pat and John on how the thinking and writing of Polanyi and Schumpeter relates to my point in the reflection below and the question I pose re: the role of physics and energy in the arc of recent history and transition in the decades ahead. Nice paper Mike - and very well written. Thanks for sharing it. Feb 28, 2018, at 3:46 PM, Dr. Mike Gismondi <mikeg@athabas cau.ca> wrote: Hi Guys This may be of interest...
