Mark: You and your compatriots on P2P view the world from revisionism. Go ahead and keep looking through your microscope-provided by your "teachers." Or take the time and read some very old documented evidence available at a library near you= but you may need to stay there awhile on microfiche. -----Original Message----- From: Mark Janssen Sent: Sunday, October 23, 2011 4:39 PM To: P2P Foundation mailing list Subject: Re: [P2P-F] Fw: Info On Sun, Oct 23, 2011 at 10:32 AM, Natalie Golovin <10natalie(a)cox.net> wrote: > The European Tribes treated the Natives no worse than they treated each > other. Whoa. You should really stop talking. You have NO idea what you're talking about. How about forced acculturation, not allowing them to speak their own language (which hold the record of their own history), confined them under threat of violent force into reservations, among other things. But, really, that's probably not even the worst of it -- the worst of it is that for reasons they couldn't ever understand is why you were doing all of these cruel things when they were willing to share it it all with you. Why, when they handed out their hand to be friends, you chopped it off. Remember, they're the ones who gave us Thanksgiving which is still "celebrated" in this nation today. Read the reports made of making first contact with the Native peoples here. You really should read up before propagating the attitudes of conquest. Fw: Warren Buffett's Secret $9 Billion Investment

----- Forwarded Message ----- From: Energy and Capital <eac-eletter(a)angelnexus.com> To: dharao4(a)yahoo.co.uk Sent: Monday, 30 January 2012, 17:18 Subject: Warren Buffett's Secret $9 Billion Investment Energy and Capital - ________________________________ Forward to a Friend Having trouble viewing this issue? Click here. Refer a Friend to Energy and Capital. Warren Buffett's Secret $9 Billion Investment By Jeff Siegel | Monday, January 30th, 2012 Publisher's Note: For the past week, we've been telling you about our upcoming free informational seminar about investing in precious metals. Well, the day is almost here... The seminar begins tomorrow at 6 p.m. (EST). So if you want answers to any gold or silver questions you may have, take a moment to sign up today. Brian Hicks ________________________________ Until recently, he's kept it pretty quiet. In fact, when he ponied up his first billion for a piece of this action, he barely made a peep. The only reason I found out about it is because I know some of the players behind the scenes... These are the money guys that tend to keep a low profile, yet are typically the most important guys involved in these types of deals. And that's the way they like it. Regardless, for the past 12 years, Warren Buffett has been meticulously building his position in some very select modern energy markets. And in typical Buffett fashion, he's going make billions. Fortunately, you can get a piece of this action, too. You just need to do two things: First, tune out all the hype and B.S. spewing from Washington and the mainstream media about modern energy technologies. They know nothing, and are nothing more than parasites. As investors, they are of zero value to us. Second, the next time you look at a solar panel, wind farm, or state-of-the-art, super-efficient co-generation plant, remember one thing: These were not built for treehuggers; these were built for very wealthy investors. Modern energy technologies don't exist to appease environmentalists. They exist to make very rich individuals even richer. Advertisement This Technology Could Destroy Warren Buffett's $2 Billion Solar Farm... If the rumors are true, this new discovery could capture more energy in a single month than Saudi Arabia will produce in the next 50 years. Click here to find out how this is possible. ________________________________ Buffett Loves Renewable Energy... and Natural Gas... and Nuclear... and... Warren Buffett isn't hanging out in drum circles talking about clean air. But heis making billion-dollar clean energy deals — and he's actually been doing so for more than a decade. And last week, Buffett upped the ante on clean energy once again by announcing that his MidAmerican Energy Company is officially forming a branch dedicated solely to the development of modern renewable energy. The new branch will be broken down into four units: * Solar * Wind * Geothermal * Hydro MidAmerican's already got more than $9 billion in wind and solar alone, and more is expected this year. The energy giant — which is the largest electricity provider in Iowa, Wyoming, and Utah — is clearly bullish on renewable energy. And management isn't shy about making this new growth strategy known. In fact, MidAmerican VP Jonathan Weisgall pulled no punches last week when he told reporters this move was simply a vote for renewable energy and not some random bet. Of course, Buffett's no fool either, and he isn't putting all his eggs in that “clean energy” basket... While the Oracle of Omaha clearly understands that the long-term outlook on energy will not be dictated solely by fossil fuels, MidAmerican's conventional energy investments will continue to butter most of its bread for years to come. Natural Gas, Oil, and Nuclear: Buy What Buffett Buys MidAmerican already transports 8% of the country's natural gas through its own pipelines, and Burlington Northern Santa Fe (which Buffett owns) moves oil from the Bakken region in North Dakota to refineries. Interestingly, with the Keystone Pipeline construction delayed (I say “delayed” because only a fool believes this pipeline won't be built), oil producers will now have to rely even more on Burlington. This is a very bullish case for freight rail this year — and of course for continued production in the Bakken, particularly in the Three Forks region, where we've been telling you to load up for months. Buffett's also big on nuclear — but not in the way you might think. You see, back in 2008, MidAmerican tried to do a deal in Idaho, but that fell through before Buffett ponied up any real money. He then looked to get a piece of Constellation's Calvert Cliffs nuclear reactor, but French state-owned utility EDF beat him to the punch. Then Fukushima happened, which resulted in Buffett losing interest in conventional nuclear power generation, saying: “[conventional nuclear] isn't going to happen because the psychology has changed.” Advertisement Buy this Stock Now for $0.22! Meet the company that just saved the nuclear industry... Click here now! ________________________________ But here's what a lot of media reports missed: Even after Fukushima, MidAmerican's nuclear energy unit had been sniffing around a different kind of nuclear technology — small modular reactors. Buffett may be in tune with the kinds of risks folks are willing to take when it comes to power generation, particularly after one of the worst nuclear meltdowns in history, but he also embraces and doesn't run from disruptive technology. Could these small modular reactors prove to be a disruptive technology that could make Buffett even richer? Perhaps. But that's not the only disruptive technology in the nuclear space right now. And I would argue that small modular reactors are nothing compared to a recent breakthrough in nuclear fuel technology that allows for both increased safety and lower operational costs, the latter being a big deal as conventional nuclear simply could not exist today without massive government subsidies. Of course, thanks to a new development in nuclear fuel technology from our neighbors to the north, these huge nuclear subsidies could be a thing of the past. And the company behind this development? Well, let's just say that between its truly disruptive technology and the fact that the president of this company was recently appointed as the head of the World Nuclear Association's Fuel Technology Group, it's probably going to be one of the easiest triple-baggers we'll see in 2012. My colleague Nick Hodge actually has some video of this company's technology in action. Interestingly, he's the only analyst on the planet who was allowed the necessary access to obtain this footage. Not even the big dogs over at Goldman could get their hands on it. But that's how it goes when you're willing to get your hands dirty instead of sitting behind an antique desk in some overpriced Wall Street office. Of course, it won't be much longer before every Wall Street hack is jumping into this stock... After all, quite a few of them are also Energy and Capital readers. Once they see Nick's footage for themselves, I'm sure they'll be passing this one along to all their high-end clients. My advice? Get a piece of this action now. Let all those “high-end clients” turn you into a “high-end client” after they launch this thing into the stratosphere. Because let's be serious — who's not going to load up on the only company that can actually make nuclear safer and cheaper, especially these days? This is probably the easiest money you'll make all year. Don't sleep on this one! To a new way of life and a new generation of wealth... Fw: Finance for Sustainability: The Future of Business Education

----- Forwarded Message ----- From: John Fullerton <jfullerton(a)capitalinstitute.org> To: Robert Searle <dharao4(a)yahoo.co.uk> Sent: Monday, 30 January 2012, 22:15 Subject: Finance for Sustainability: The Future of Business Education To forward this email, click here. Finance for Sustainability: The Future of Business Education by John Fullerton I was honored to join Majora Carter, Eban Goodstein, and Elysa Hammond at the launch of Bard College's new MBA in Sustainability last week to discuss how finance has been a major factor driving our ecological and social crises and how fixing finance must be a part of the solution. The ideas I presented – an all-hands-on-deck, bottom-up and top-down/systemic approach to sustainable finance – are at the core of a new finance curriculum the Capital Institute is helping Bard design. Below are the slides from my address. For more information on the MBA in Sustainability program, visit http://www.bard.edu/mba/. See my presentation at the Future of Finance Blog. CI Fellow Reports from the Field Capital Institute fellow Liana Scobie has taken a job at the innovative company TerraCycle and has sent us these thoughts from the field on how their work is making a real difference in the core areas of Capital Institute's focus – sustainability for a full world and a more equitable distribution of wealth. Proof That It's Working by Liana Scobie On January 12, 60 employees at TerraCycle stopped their regular work to stuff 3,500 charitable donation checks into envelopes. At TerraCycle, our mission is to eliminate the idea of waste. We do this by creating national recycling systems for previously non-recyclable and otherwise impossible-to-recycle waste. But for every piece of waste sent to us, we donate $0.02 to a charity, or school, of the sender’s choice. Read the rest of Liana's thoughts at This Week at Capital Institute. ________________________________ Joseph Stiglitz to Speak at Responsible Endowments Coalition Celebration Nobel Laureate economist Joseph Stiglitz will be the keynote speaker at The Responsible Endowments Coalition (REC) Winter Celebration and Fundraiser, honoring Anuradha Mittal and the Oakland Institute. The event will be held in New York City on February 15th. The REC is a student-led, not-for-profit organization that works to improve the environmental, social, and governance practices of corporations by transforming the way universities invest their endowments. Founded in 2004 by a group of undergraduates from Barnard College, Duke University, the University of Pennsylvania, Swarthmore College, and Williams College who wanted to encourage their alma maters to invest for a purpose higher than merely financial returns, the REC now counts over 100 active schools in its network. The organization provides information and technical assistance to students who wish to engage their colleges and universities in more responsible investing. It also works with administrators and trustees, providing support to them on integrating responsible investment into the management of their endowments. Register here for the Fundraiser. Regular tickets are $100; student low-income tickets
, $38. For more, visit This Week at Capital Institute. ________________________________ Does Growth Equal Progress? Last week, Capital Institute network organization Demos released a striking report and series of graphics on the myth that economic growth equals progress. The report lays out the argument for rethinking our national accounts while the graphics visually detail the failures of GDP as a measurement of progress. See the graphics and get the report here. What We're Reading The January 2012 issue of Solutions features an article by Capital Institute colleague Mark Mykleby who makes the case that the future of national security should be grounded in sustainability and communities rather than a defensive, last-resort militarism. National Security, Sustainability, and Citizenship ________________________________ Comment of the Week "Appreciate the specifics and the mini-lesson on efficiency versus resiliency. I've seen many intelligent, thoughtful people go 'hmm' when offered this dichotomy. Light bulbs flash and discussions are reframed. I'm sure you made a few lights flicker. Perhaps this will reach both sides of the aisle. And, I'm not at all 'reluctant' to try 'bold public-private experimentation to manifest the purpose-driven financial system we need.'" -Rosalinda Sanquiche, A Systems Approach to Financial Reform ________________________________ Quote of the Week "To achieve a viable human-Earth situation a new jurisprudence must envisage its primary task as that of articulating the conditions for the integral functioning of the Earth process, with special reference to a mutually enhancing human-Earth relationship... The land, the water, the air, and the complex of life systems... would constitute the integral expression of the Great Commons of the planet Earth to be shared in proportion to need among all members of the Earth community." -Thomas Berry, The Great Work To unsubscribe from this email list, click here. 73 Arch Street, 3rd Floor Greenwich, CT 06830 United States

Our Fear of Abundance
by Patrick Anderson 31 Jan '12

31 Jan '12

Profit requires Scarcity. And most Investors require Profit as Return for the risk they take. So it would seem we *must* seek Scarcity - for how else could we repay our Investors? ... There is a special group that could accept Product as the Return for their risk. This special group already pays all the Costs of production anyway, AND they also pay Profit (Price above Cost) because they buy the Product late. This special group are the people the Product is supposedly being made for, and yet they must continually beg the Owners to do the right thing. And yet those owners really *cannot* do the right thing for the pleading Consumers because their Investors have conflicting goals. ... So imagine a scenario where Consumers invest and become the co-owners the Means of Production for their own, mutual benefit. This is different from a traditional cooperative because the Product is not sold and so there is no chance for Price to be above Cost. Profit is *UNDEFINED* when Product is ROI because there is no sale. The final transaction does not occur because the Product is already in the hands of the person who will Consume it. This short-circuit across the usual need for trade is a optimization in that the Product is "pre allocated" to the person who needs it so there is no need to buy or sell that Product since it is already in the hands of the person who will Consume it. Governments cannot tax or interrogate the missing transaction. See http://Wikipedia.org/wiki/Imputed_rent for a subset of the issue.

In several published documents, the Commission's attempts to impose ACTA onto the EU Parliament while silencing legitimate criticism. But these misrepresentations don't resist scrutiny. *** As the EU executive branch (EU Commission plus 22 Member States governments) officially signed ACTA [1], the way is now open for its consideration by the European Parliament. Its 754 elected members now have an opportunity, during a process that will last for several months, to either accept or reject ACTA. Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) are already under great pressure, not only from the copyright industry lobbyists, but also from the European Commission's “International Trade” directorate [2], who negotiated the text in total opacity during 3 years. Citizens must contact the Members of the EU Parliament (MEPs) to denounce the Commission's infuriating lies, and urge them to ensure that the EU's democratic values will be preserved. MEPs must commit to working in their respective committees towards the rejection of ACTA. “The EU Commission is plainly lying to the Members of the European Parliament by presenting ACTA as an acceptable agreement. By signing ACTA together with EU Member States, the EU Commission dismissed the legitimate concerns of thousands of citizens across Europe who have been protesting against ACTA in the past few days. Citizens must contact their elected representatives and remind them what ACTA is all about: circumventing democracy and hurting freedoms to protect the outdated business models of rent-seeking industries.”, said Jérémie Zimmermann, spokesperson for La Quadrature du Net.
