STATUS UPDATE on my research project: As some of you may know I have undertaken an ambitious project that combines: 1) a general study of the evolution of civilizational forms , https://wiki.p2pfoundation.net/Category:Civilizational_Analysis 2) how it fits with cyclic patterns, https://wiki.p2pfoundation.net/Category:P2P_Cycles 3) and how the ebbs and flow of the commons institutions fit in that, creating a pulsation of the commons that is now operating on a world scale , https://wiki.p2pfoundation.net/Category:P2P_History and cries out for the filling of the global commons gap, by the creation of global magisteria of the commons A preliminary synthesis had been written with Jose Ramos as part of the cosmo-local book , coming out in November (launch nov 11) see https://docs.google.com/document/d/1U7x2PHk0xm3e5Ep7UGG56pDkJ5bAHCy-/edit -- P2P Foundation: http://wiki.p2pfoundation.net <http://p2pfoundation.net> - http://blog.p2pfoundation.net Discuss: http://lists.ourproject.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/p2p-foundation Updates: ; http://twitter.com/mbauwens; http://www.facebook.com/mbauwens Curation of news on p2p/commons developments: https://www.facebook.com/groups/p2p.open/

Felix and Giulio here. Wow... So much to say. But first, take a deep breath and feel the vibe :) … and the chaos! One week has passed and we are still so joyful for having accomplished such an incredible event. CCG21 happened and in terms of gratification that is more than enough. In terms of #worldunfucking, that's not enough. The Real Value party starts now! #RealValue We don’t want to keep this mail long so we’ll try to be short: we want to start with you a process of Hirschwangerhof local regeneration, to foster the development of the “Crypto Commons” community and ecosystem - which of course includes also non-blockchain/crypto projects - and to find the best modalities of coordination and accelerate the diffusion of our tools and vision. Over the coming months, we seek to develop a feasible governance framework and a full blown plan for the house regeneration. If you want to contribute your time and intelligence to this mission, you can join the Crypto Commons Hub <https://t.me/joinchat/nSfT0VysqwBjZTEy> group on TG. ‘Crypto Commons Hub’ (CCH) will also be the new public name of our entity - formerly (briefly) known as Crypto Commons Association, CCA - for the happiness of our friends, the Community Currency Alliance, and all of us who don’t like confusion. In the end, we are not certain yet which legal form is most suitable to our needs, and will explore that in line with our governance and house regeneration plans. Recordings, presentation slides and all other forms of good knowledge gathered at the CCG will be published soon. We are currently migrating all our digital activity and files on open source and privacy-secure services, to say a big f*uck you to the Web Giants. In fact, this email is the last communication from our Gmail account, the next ones will come by our nice cryptocommonshub(a)protonmail.com <cryptocommons(a)protonmail.com> account. Short term: Raising funds to get things going Our first move is to promote our Gitcoin Grant in order to be able to set up a stable team in tandem with an internal group of voluntary contributors who want to participate and help to varying degrees. Gitcoin Grant Round #11 We set up a Gitcoin Grant <https://gitcoin.co/grants/2073/crypto-commons-gathering-2021> supporting first steps towards the establishment of the CCH as a physical space and the production of the Crypto Commons Documentary (CCD), the first full feature film on Crypto Commons, for which most of you have already been interviewed in brief. Proceeds for the CCH will be used mainly to expand our team by two people, including one ‘organized person’ skilled in all the things we both suck at (structure, reliability, accounting etc.). Felix, trying to bring order into the mess he created The CCD will use funds primarily to send Oliviero and Josh to the Bitcoin Miami Conference as part of our ‘Blockchain for Good’ delegation (Thanks Sarah Manski for this!!). Their plan is to present 10-15 minutes of already gathered material, advertise their public fundraising campaign, and to continue gathering material for the full feature documentary - in particular the Bitcoin Maximalist stance, but hopefully also some willingness of Bitcoineers to look beyond the strictly monetary dimension. The eleventh round of Gitcoin Grants ends on September 23rd. Every donation, sharing and feedback is greatly appreciated. As always, the dynamic fund matching provided by Gitcoin means that the more broad and diverse our supporter base is, the more fund matching we get from institutional partners - so please share widely in your various communities! Usually, gas fees are lower on the weekend, so why not do it right now?! Vote for us with CSTK Another way you can support us is to vote for us <https://cv.commonsstack.org/#/proposal/29> with your CSTK tokens on the distribution of the Commons Stack’s Community Fund <https://medium.com/commonsstack/commons-stack-community-fund-voting-round-3…>, which is additionally (and much higher) matched by Panvala for donations made in PAN (so consider donating to the community fund <https://gitcoin.co/grants/1127/commons-stack-community-fund-panvala-league> in PAN instead of in DAI). Circles UBI For those who didn’t do it, you can also donate your Circles UBI <https://joincircles.net/> tokens to the CCH shared wallet @CCG21ANDFOREVER as these wonderful commoners are sponsoring us and they will buy back the tokens for fiat in order to fund CCH activities. Thanks Circles UBI!!! Fiat Donations Of course you can also donate old style fiat euros if you prefer avoiding ETH fees: this is our IBAN and bank details, just write “Donation to CCA” Name: Crypto Commons Association IBAN: AT55 2011 1844 2147 1600 BIC: GIBAATWWXXX PS: We’ll track every kind of donation in order to recognise the contribution of every commoner for future praise, rewards or other purposes. No good deed shall go unrewarded! Mid term: Sowing the seeds from which the Crypto Commons Hub will grow Develop a governance structure: Again, it will take a while to find the most suitable legal form as well as the best organizational structure for our ecosystemic activities, and whoever wants to contribute to this process is more than welcome! Create a 3D model of the house, to be used both in fundraising in order to give potential supporters an idea of the space, and as our digital representation in the metaverse, upon which a plethora of use cases can be created in future (think digital and hybrid conferences, art galleries, augmented reality in the house itself, etc. - only our shared imagination is the limit!). Obviously, we are looking for experience with 3D modelling, NFTs, AR/VR etc. We are trying to raise a budget to fund at least the immediate development of the model itself until the end of the year. Create a comprehensive proposal for potential sponsors that includes the grand vision, a roadmap, an overview of immediate and intermediate issues the house has, and a budget that reflects these needs, public subsidies and other potential sources of revenue/funding for our plans. It should be ready by December 1st, as most budgets for 2022 are drafted in December. We are searching for experienced contributors who know either the private crypto sponsors landscape, the public EU and Austrian subsidies landscape, have general experience in business plan development or can contribute to a coherent and attractive narrative. Recap of old and new groups/sources/social media: New mail : cryptocommonshub(a)protonmail.com General TG group : t.me/joinchat/Vcg9sAXnJ1XY5BBn Crypto Commons Hub - Active Contributors new TG group : https://t.me/joinchat/nSfT0VysqwBjZTEy CC MEMES group : https://t.me/ccgmemes Our twitter profile : https://twitter.com/CCommonsHub Our website : https://www.crypto-commons.org/ We are at your disposal for anything, from proposals to feedback around the CCG21. Fwd: [bgcon] SILENT WORKS · Reviews

---------- Forwarded message --------- From: Krystian Woznicki <kw(a)berlinergazette.de> Date: Mon, Sep 13, 2021 at 1:49 PM Subject: [bgcon] SILENT WORKS · Reviews To: <digi-yards(a)berlinergazette.de> Hi, last week the most recent text about the BG's 2020 SILENT WORKS project (https://silentworks.info) was published and we are taking this as an occasion to present a selection of reviews that were published in this year so far. *Phoenix Nomi: Summoning the Ghost in the Machine* "Despite the dystopian undertones, the message in SILENT WORKS is ultimately one of hope: solidarity is the glue that reconnects humans to the meanings of our actions. We still have the power to change, and working together as equals is the only way forward." https://news.techworkerscoalition.org/2021/09/06/issue-17/ *Gavin Mueller: Turning the Magic of AI Inside Out* "The Berliner Gazette seems to have immediately grasped the significance of Covid-19 to the already existing trajectories of capitalism’s technological restructuring, or in their words ‘the pandemic-related crisis as a crisis of AI-capitalism’." https://www.onlineopen.org/silent-works-the-hidden-labor-of-ai-capitalism *Kevin Rittberger: Against AI capitalism’s fantasies of powerlessness* "It is time to recognize Inhuman Labor as Janus-faced: on the one hand, the inhumane working conditions, including the impossibility of precarized wage workers to use AI for emancipative, sustainable and non-capitalist purposes; on the other, Big Tech’s fantasy of powerlessness, which needs to be exposed as just that." https://springerin.at/en/2021/1/isilent-worksi/ *Jaron Rowan: Knowledge in Action* "Ways of knowing that can give a voice to those who suffer from the imposition of algorithmic logic at work; to the invisible bodies entangled in distribution and logistics chains; to the workforce regulated by apps, algorithmic calculations, geo-locations and notifications." https://non.copyriot.com/knowledge-in-action/ *Jess Henderson: Full Automation, Full Fantasy* "The fact that there are real people having to witness and manually assess content (from banal fodder to ‘the pornographic, the obscene, the violent, the illegal, the abusive, and the hateful’) illustrates how AI capitalism is not just a matter of real-existing AI at work, but also a matter of the fantasy and appearance of AI at work." https://www.harun-farocki-institut.org/de/2021/01/25/full-automation-full-f… *Georg Fischer: Making "hidden work" on digital platforms visible* (GER) "Processes controlled by "artificial intelligence" often appear to proceed independently. In fact, however, humans perform numerous, often very monotonous activities in the background. The ambiguous title of one of the workshop projects "Artificial Artificial Intelligence (AAI)" refers to this as fake artificial intelligence." https://irights.info/webschau/website-macht-verborgene-arbeiten-auf-digital… *Gesa Ufer: The Work Behind The Click* (GER) "Algorithms will do our work for us, is one of the slogans of digitalization. The conference and exhibition SILENT WORKS of the online newspaper Berliner Gazette wants to make the "dirty work" behind the beautiful surfaces visible." https://www.deutschlandfunkkultur.de/konferenz-silent-works-die-arbeit-hint… *Lara Luna Bartley: The Invisible Hand* "SILENT WORKS got me thinking about invisibilized work more broadly. A t-shirt is made once, but it is washed hundreds of times. And yet, our economic systems ascribe economic value to the inititial making but not the subsequent care." http://www.laralunabartley.com/home/the-invisible-hand Thanks to all! Fwd: [EARTHwise and Future Humans] Educational Blueprint and other resources
by Michel Bauwens 10 Sep '21

---------- Forwarded message --------- From: Anneloes Smitsman <anneloes(a)earthwisecentre.org> Date: Fri, Sep 10, 2021 at 4:54 PM Subject: [EARTHwise and Future Humans] Educational Blueprint and other resources To: <michel(a)p2pfoundation.net> Warm greetings! As promised in my previous email, I am delighted to now share with you several free resources to empower and inspire our capacities for regeneration and thrivability. *The r3.0 Educational Transformation Blueprint * <http://email.kjbm.earthwisecentre.org/c/eJwVjkFuwyAQRU9jNpURDLgDCxZpk0hd9wA…> It has been my honor to have served as the lead author for writing the *r3.0 Educational Transformation Blueprint <http://email.kjbm.earthwisecentre.org/c/eJwVjkFuwyAQRU9jNpURDLgDCxZpk0hd9wA…>*, co-authored with the esteemed r3.0 Directors *Bill Baue* and *Ralph Thurm*, and with vital inputs from our peers through the international working group for this Blueprint. LEARN MORE <http://email.kjbm.earthwisecentre.org/c/eJwVjkFuwyAQRU9jNpURDLgDCxZpk0hd9wA…> We launched the Blueprint on Tuesday and we are grateful for the amazing feedback we are receiving already. This Blueprint is for everyone committed to developing the capacities and understanding for regeneration and thrivability. The Blueprint builds on my Ph.D. research "*Into the Heart of Systems Change <http://email.kjbm.earthwisecentre.org/c/eJwdT0tuwyAQPY29qWphPsZeeJHWiZpdpRw…>*", and includes many practices and transformational processes that I have developed over the last decades. It also builds on the vital *r3.0 <http://email.kjbm.earthwisecentre.org/c/eJwVjTkOwjAQAF8TNwhrfWXtwgWnRM0DkIk…>* perspectives and design pathways for regeneration and thrivability, as featured in earlier r3.0 Blueprints <http://email.kjbm.earthwisecentre.org/c/eJwVjstuwyAQRb_GbKKiAcYBFizSJpG6zgd…> . *"The aim and intention for this Blueprint is to inspire and empower the necessary inner and outer learning shifts that can move us towards trajectories of regeneration and ultimately thrivability. Such shifts require a major transformation in the way learning is currently taking place (and envisioned) as well as new ways for initiating and inspiring the kind of transformative learning that leads to the necessary behavioural change. These inner and outer shifts will also require a major commitment, individually and collectively, to address the root causes of the multiple crises we are in*." This Educational Blueprint includes *7 Transformative Learning Perspectives* for Regeneration and Thrivability, which are explored through three focal areas per chapter. The Blueprint completes with *13 recommendations* that each of us can apply in our lives and work, as shown in this slide from my *conference presentation <http://email.kjbm.earthwisecentre.org/c/eJwdkN9rgzAcxP8afRkN-aXRBx_atYXCBqM…>* this week at r3.0 (further detailed and explained in chapter 9 of the Blueprint): This Blueprint also serves as an *essential guidebook* with many resources, practices, processes, links, system maps, inquiries, stories, case-studies, exercises, self-evaluations, and recommendations. It is now a public document, and you can share it widely with your circles and communities. *CLICK HERE <http://email.kjbm.earthwisecentre.org/c/eJwdkMlqwzAYhJ_GvpQIba7tgw5ZHBq6p70…> *to *download the Blueprint*. *Book Chapter with my co-author Dr Jude Currivan* The following *BOOK CHAPTER <http://email.kjbm.earthwisecentre.org/c/eJwdkMuOm0AURL8GNlGjfmHoBQvHjB1HSiL…>* , "Healing Our Relationship with Gaia through a New Thrivability Paradigm," which I co-authored with *Dr Jude Currivan*, is *now available as free open access*. Our chapter features in the book, "Subtle Agroecologies - Farming With the Hidden Half of Nature," edited by Dr. Julia Wright and Dr. Nicholas Parrott. "Research into Subtle Agroecologies may be described as the systematic study of the nature of the invisible world as it relates to the practice of agriculture, and to do this through adapting and innovating with research methods, in particular with those of a more embodied nature, with the overall purpose of bringing and maintaining balance and harmony." <http://email.kjbm.earthwisecentre.org/c/eJwNkM2KgzAcxJ9GL0tCvjTJwUN3W6HnfYC…> *Here is a brief abstract of our chapter:* "This chapter focuses on how we can heal our relationship with our planetary home, Gaia, by examining why and how our behaviours and systems have grown so destructive over time, and how we can change this. As part of this focus, the authors explore the underlying worldviews and practices that have been driving our food cultivation systems and mainstream consumption patterns. The authors offer a wholeworld-view that addresses the many fragmented perspectives of our world and life, and offer a more unified understanding of what has now become the greatest existential challenge our species has ever faced at this scale. The wholeworld-view is explored through the study of infodynamics, which focuses on informational patterns and content that reveal deeper implicit dimensions that in-form and underlie our manifest physical world. The chapter ends with an exploration of the infodynamics of living systems as thrivability systems, and how this can be applied to the design principles and processes for developing the agroecological farming systems of tomorrow." This session will bring together international social and solidarity networks to envision what policy actions are needed to ensure the social and solidarity economy contributes to recovery. More about the session <http://newsletter.oecd.org/c/13AGIJdtExo4VZ2prWn7IUxj5> How to make the most of legal frameworks? *Tuesday, 14 September, 13:00 – 14:30 CET* Countries around the world are increasingly developing legal frameworks for the social and solidarity economy in response to its growing profile and impact. It is important to identify the challenges, trends, opportunities and innovative approaches that are emerging. This session will showcase new OECD work on how to leverage the potential of the social and solidarity economy through legal frameworks. Leading experts, policymakers and practitioners in the field will also share their experiences, including on strategies when explicit legal frameworks do not exist. As part of the OECD Global Action, Peer-learning Partnerships have been set up to promote knowledge exchange and experience sharing on policies and practices for social and solidarity economy development. During this session, the six Global Action Peer-learning Partnerships will present the work they have conducted so far and share lessons learnt, challenges and success factors to support and stimulate social and solidarity economy development. More about the session <http://newsletter.oecd.org/c/13AGIPlGZHdQQitGExD6deu9u> Mainstreaming gender equality in the social and solidarity economy *Wednesday, 15 September, 14:45 – 15:45 CET* The drive for gender equality in social and solidarity economy organisations is strong, and in some countries, women make up more than 60% of the workforce in the field. While women play many leadership roles, more could be done for gender parity. How can policymakers help remove the barriers preventing women from accessing social and solidarity economy leadership roles? What measures can be taken to give women social entrepreneurs greater access to finance and resources? How can better data help policy-making unleash the full potential of social economy women leaders? Inspiring international practitioners will lead a session on how to ensure equal opportunity for women in the social and solidarity economy. More about the session <http://newsletter.oecd.org/c/13AGITrayt727aLS7BNKxrMIq> Promoting the internationalisation of the social and solidarity economy *Wednesday, 15 September, 14:45 – 15:45 CET* Internationalisation is a common strategy for social and solidarity economy organisations to scale and therefore increase their social impact. However, while internationalisation strategies differ, there are some common challenges preventing those who want to internationalise from doing so. Barriers include insufficient financing, a need for more management skills, and a lack of knowledge about internationalisation strategies, among others. During this session, practitioners will discuss challenges and key success factors to promote the internationalisation of social and solidarity economy organisations. More about the session <http://newsletter.oecd.org/c/13AGIVtUkR3CKBUXR8T4HyqZT> Social impact measurement: friend or foe? *Thursday, 16 September, 13:00 – 14:30 CET* Social and solidarity economy organisations are under increasing pressure to demonstrate their social and wellbeing outcomes. Still, the lack of a clear and agreed definition of social value creation makes it difficult to translate social value into meaningful practices for measuring, managing and reporting impact. This session will showcase new OECD work in the field and discuss with leading experts and practitioners how to ensure effective social impact measurement for the social and solidarity economy. More about the session <http://newsletter.oecd.org/c/13AGIXwE7f0do343AFYoRF5hm> Charting the way forward: mainstreaming the social and solidarity economy *Thursday, 16 September, 14:30 – 15:15 CET* Mainstreaming the social economy means both recognising its role as a full economic agent of systemic change and innovation, and expanding and multiplying its social impact for the benefit of the whole society. Building back better implies injecting more social responsibility into the economic sphere. Social economy organisations can inspire new business models to include more responsible practices and behaviours. This session will chart the way forward for sustained support of social and solidarity economy development by looking at what countries can do to bring it to the next level, and how the OECD can support this shift. Fwd: My new book from MIT Press, They Knew: The US Federal Government's Fifty-Year Role in Causing the Climate Crisis

---------- Forwarded message --------- From: Gus Speth <gus(a)speth.com> Date: Thu, Sep 9, 2021 at 11:10 PM Subject: My new book from MIT Press, They Knew: The US Federal Government's Fifty-Year Role in Causing the Climate Crisis To: Gus Speth <gus(a)speth.com> Friends – I have a new book out with MIT Press, one I hope will interest you. The title says it all, They Knew: The US Federal Government's Fifty-Year Role in Causing the Climate Crisis <https://www.penguinrandomhouse.com/books/675983/they-knew-by-james-gustave-…>. It covers the period from LBJ through Trump, documenting what the government knew, when they knew it, and how they played a leading and affirmative role in bringing about today’s climate crisis. This book took shape when *Our Children's Trust* (OCT), a great advocacy for children, asked me to write up the Carter Administration for the children’s climate lawsuit, and I said sure. A busy period, I thought, but just four years. When I was done, or so I thought, they said, "now, will you do the other administrations?" I picked my aging body up off the floor, and started in on the assignment with the help of an amazing documentary research team at OCT. That was 2018, and I subsequently added the disastrous Trump finale and did some updating. I am grateful that *Julia Olson* and *Philip Gregory*, legal counsel for the seminal case *Juliana v. United States*, have contributed an introduction to the book. And thankful also for terrific early reviews and endorsements from *Naomi Klein, Bill McKibben, Van Jones, Elizabeth Kolbert,* and *Catherine Flowers*. There have been positive reviews also from *Nature* and *Science*. See below. I have described the book as the saddest story ever told, but if you are reality tolerant you will find it an important story of vast governmental malfeasance, surely one of the greatest derelictions of civic responsibility in the history of the Republic. I hope the book spurs people to act in small and big ways. Please consider ordering a copy from your favorite bookstore and sharing the word with others who may be interested. My publisher has also provided a discount code that will give you *20% discount and free shipping** on direct orders with Penguin Random House <https://www.penguinrandomhouse.com/books/675983/they-knew-by-james-gustave-…> . *All royalties go to Our Children’s Trust.* All the best to you, Gus James Gustave Speth, gus(a)speth.com Distinguished Next System Fellow, the Democracy Collaborative, thenextsystem.org *Necessary information about the discount code: Customers based in the USA can order with discount code TheyKnew20 and receive a 20% discount. He provides a chilling description of the gulf between the safer course of action recommended by scientists and advisers, and the reality of federal policy.” *—Nature* “Working pro bono [for Juliana v. United States], Speth produced a lengthy report tracing nearly 60 years of federal action on climate change and fossil fuel development. That report is the foundation for this book. Parts of the story have been told before… but Speth’s volume covers a broader period of time, says more about federal encouragement of fossil fuels, and as befits a legal filing, is richly documented.” *—Science * “Devastating. Enraging. Indispensable. Would that the world had more heroic elders like Gus Speth. He has produced a damning record that will become a potent tool for justice.” *—Naomi Klein, Gloria Steinem Chair in Media, Culture, and Feminist Studies at Rutgers University; author of This Changes Everything, The Shock Doctrine, and No Logo* “With skill and dedication, Gus Speth has documented precisely what we knew and when we knew it. This book is a shocking reminder of the chances for action we've already missed, and a spur to finally move with the vigor the climate crisis demands.” *—Bill McKibben, Schumann Distinguished Scholar in Environmental Studies at Middlebury College; founder, 350.org <http://350.org>* “Wondering how in the world the catastrophe of climate change could be happening and whom to hold responsible? Look no further than They Knew—Gus Speth’s enlightening and infuriating new book.” *—Van Jones, CNN commentator, author, and founder of the Dream Corps* “Gus Speth has written a history of federal action and inaction on climate change that spares neither Democrats nor Republicans. They Knew is at once a searing indictment and a fascinating read.” *—Elizabeth Kolbert, staff writer, New Yorker; author of Under a White Sky and The Sixth Extinction* “Speth reveals the smoking gun of the climate crisis in the US government’s unholy alliance with the fossil fuel industry. The history presented in They Knew makes clear that democratic action is needed now to ensure a future for seven generations to come.” *—Catherine Flowers, Founder and Director, Center for Rural Enterprise and Environmental Justice; Professor of Practice, Duke University; 2020 MacArthur Fellow; author of Waste* -- James Gustave Speth, gus(a)speth.com Distinguished Next System Fellow, the Democracy Collaborative, thenextsystem.org My recent books: *It’s Already Tomorrow: Poems*, Shires Press (2020), amazon.com/Its-Already-Tomorrow-Poems-Speth/dp/1605714976 <https://www.amazon.com/Its-Already-Tomorrow-Poems-Speth/dp/1605714976> *They Knew: The US Federal Government's Fifty-Year Role in Causing the Climate Crisis, *MIT Press (2021) mitpress.mit.edu/books/they-knew amazon.com/They-Knew-Federal-Governments-Fifty-Year/dp/0262542986/ref=tmm_h… -- Check out the Commons Transition Plan here at: http://commonstransition.org P2P Foundation: http://p2pfoundation.net - http://blog.p2pfoundation.net <http://lists.ourproject.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/p2p-foundation>Updates: http://twitter.com/mbauwens; http://www.facebook.com/mbauwens #82 on the (En)Rich list: http://enrichlist.org/the-complete-list/

Fwd: "In what way is what we are doing (investing in and building businesses) not working, and not aligned with society's and nature’s best interests?"

---------- Forwarded message --------- From: Evolutesix <ask(a)evolutesix.com> Date: Wed, Sep 8, 2021 at 8:49 PM Subject: "In what way is what we are doing (investing in and building businesses) not working, and not aligned with society's and nature’s best interests?" To: Hi Michel <michelsub2004(a)gmail.com> Tuesday 28th September: 9th webinar Rebuild: the Economy, Leadership, and You Register for our 9th Webinar <https://evolutesix.us5.list-manage.com/track/click?u=8f1870bab0470cc03d1589…> *Join our guest speaker, Killu Sanborn of ESTVIK Partners. She has over 21 years of experience in life science venture lending and VC equity financing, in dialogue with Jack and Graham about this theme. As usual, we begin with Killu presenting the themes, a short response from Jack and Graham linking with their book Rebuild: the Economy, Leadership, and You, followed by all participants exploring the topic together.* *In this session, we want to develop deeper insights into what levers we have now, and what levers we must build so that we can do what is aligned with society’s and nature’s best interests.* *To get there we need to first get clear on why what we’re doing is not working, and what in our thoughts and feelings has kept us anchored in continuing to do what is not working; especially in the half-century since “Limits to Growth” was published.* *Themes we'll address.* - *Within the conventional container of profit and capital efficiency thinking, what we are doing looks pretty good, well-aligned with making more enterprises more profitable; which the prevailing paradigm assumes is in society's best interests.* - *But we have systemic blindness. We have two concurrent economic worlds in the climate challenge, during the pandemic - one of suffering and catastrophes, another of the self-congratulatory joy of great runs in the markets. We see stellar business and profit success of late from the "financial markets world", yet it is unglued from "underlying assets and people based world". We live in some ways as if there really are these two worlds, even as we know there is but one.* - *Our current response is not capable of dealing with the challenge: it is linear (CV1-5), rather than a coherent whole nonlinear response (CV8 response, perhaps with a CV7 bridge, which is what our current FairShares commons is.) CV1-8 defined here: https://www.kosmosjournal.org/article/the-many-dimensions-of-change/ <https://www.kosmosjournal.org/article/the-many-dimensions-of-change/>* *So to simplify, the aspects that are not working and not in society's best interests are 1) structural economically - treating companies as property not persons, and what that leads to, what such structure sets up as outcomes 2) relational - not "getting" complete interdependence between all systems and beings 3) deep shared psyche (meaning-making, and limited by our low fluidity in thought-forms beyond simple binary logic); a psyche that holds the world in such a way that fracturing into different concurrent worlds happens, AND WE ARE OK WITH IT.* Please share the invitation broadly with anyone you think might benefit from it. Open access book: The Public Service Media and Public Service Internet Manifesto
by Christian Fuchs 08 Sep '21

Christian Fuchs and Klaus Unterberger, eds. 2021. The Public Service Media and Public Service Internet Manifesto. London: University of Westminster Press. 135 pages Open access book: http://doi.org/10.16997/book60 This open access book presents the collectively authored Public Service Media and Public Service Internet Manifesto and accompanying materials. The Manifesto has been signed by around 1,000 endorsers, including Jürgen Habermas, Noam Chomsky, International Federation of Journalists, European Federation of Journalists, International Association for Media and Communication Research, European Communication Research and Education Association. It can be signed at http://bit.ly/signPSManifesto The Internet and the media landscape are broken. The dominant commercial Internet platforms endanger democracy. They have created a communications landscape overwhelmed by surveillance, advertising, fake news, hate speech, conspiracy theories, and algorithmic politics. Commercial Internet platforms have harmed citizens, users, everyday life, and society. Democracy and digital democracy require Public Service Media. A democracy-enhancing Internet requires Public Service Media becoming Public Service Internet platforms – an Internet of the public, by the public, and for the public; an Internet that advances instead of threatens democracy and the public sphere. The Public Service Internet is based on Internet platforms operated by a variety of Public Service Media, taking the public service remit into the digital age. The Public Service Internet provides opportunities for public debate, participation, and the advancement of social cohesion. Accompanying the Manifesto are materials that informed its creation: Christian Fuchs’ report of the results of the Public Service Media/Internet Survey, the written version of Graham Murdock’s online talk on public service media today, and a summary of an ecomitee.com discussion of the Manifesto’s foundations. ---------- Forwarded message --------- From: Krystian Woznicki <kw(a)berlinergazette.de> Date: Mon, Sep 6, 2021 at 3:50 PM Subject: [bgcon] Black Box East · Texts To: <digi-yards(a)berlinergazette.de> Hi, as you know BLACK BOX EAST is conceived as a year-long project, and the Berliner Gazette (BG) has initiated diverse activities in the course of this, most importantly a series of texts and a three-day online conference encompassing five collaborative workshop tracks taking place September 23, 24, and 25, 2021. For the text series, the BG has created an extensive space within its online newspaper (in German). We are sharing other language versions with international partners, including EastEast, LeftEast, Mediapart, and NON. Here we are presenting the first 30 texts from that series.
