dissertation, Gaia: The Planetary Religion, the Sacred Marriage of Art and Science, a feminist theory of architecture

fyi: http://www.facebook.com/notes/doctress-neutopia/in-a-car-wreck-and-building… "The accident made me reflect to the reason I moved to Arizona. I moved here after completing my dissertation, Gaia: The Planetary Religion, the Sacred Marriage of Art and Science. It's a feminist theory of architecture that is devoted to creating a car-free ecological city. I wrote it because I realized that our modern cities were being destroyed by the automobile. Automakers had fooled the American public to not invest in public transportation, but into the highway system instead. Perhaps this decision was the most serious mistake (next to building nukes) made by the American republic. Building cars were good for empire-making and war, but not for democracy-making and peace." -- P2P Foundation: http://p2pfoundation.net - http://blog.p2pfoundation.net Connect: http://p2pfoundation.ning.com; Discuss: http://lists.ourproject.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/p2p-foundation Updates: http://del.icio.us/mbauwens; http://friendfeed.com/mbauwens; http://twitter.com/mbauwens; http://www.facebook.com/mbauwens

historical success of shorter working week
by Michel Bauwens 12 Jul '11

12 Jul '11

Dear Juliet, Orsan, and friends, Can anyone point to the historical experience with shorter working weeks (with keeping full pay)? As far as I know, these experiences were very positive overall, but I'd like to see this confirmed with concrete references, Michel -- P2P Foundation: http://p2pfoundation.net - http://blog.p2pfoundation.net Connect: http://p2pfoundation.ning.com; Discuss: http://lists.ourproject.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/p2p-foundation Updates: http://del.icio.us/mbauwens; http://friendfeed.com/mbauwens; http://twitter.com/mbauwens; http://www.facebook.com/mbauwens

The Open Factory - an Open Hardware factory in an Irish Ecovillage.

The Open Factory - an Open Hardware factory in an Irish Ecovillage. Yes, I'm involved.<http://groups.google.com/group/openmanufacturing/t/c988caeb28635fed> "Vinay Gupta (Hexayurt Shelter Project)" <hexayurt(a)gmail.com> Jul 10 04:00PM +0100 ^ <?ui=2&view=bsp&ver=ohhl4rw8mbn4#131193997ac0b773_digest_top> http://blip.tv/the-hexayurt-project/the-open-factory-vinay-gupta-1-of-2-533… First 20 minutes covers all of the basic concepts, but here's the pitch in three bulletpoints 1> We've got a 750 square meter manufacturing (zoned light industrial) facility with the foundation poured last week, open for business late this year. 2> We've got a world-class confluence of greens, many specialized in construction and engineering, trying to make a living in rural Ireland 3> What if we started a new manufacturing movement, with fully Open Hardware products *and* lifecycle environmental impact assessments done for each product (and additional support services for best environmental performance)? The goal is to create a manufacturing parallel to Organic Food - a high standard, semi-luxury brand which shows the way for all other manufacturers to a clean, green supply chain, and shows you can make a living with such moral, ethical, high quality products. We don't have a name for this theoretical "Manufactured Organic" name. Permafacture, obviously, is a term that I'd consider, but I'm not sure we're anywhere near that standard yet. Anyway, I hope you'll find the talk interesting and stimulating, and please feel free to circulate it / blog on it / etc. if you think the ideas have spreadability and staying power. You can read more about the Cloughjordan ecovillage project itself here: http://cloughpedia.howtolivewiki.com - I particularly recommend the Picasa Map. ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Dante-Gabryell Monson <dante.monson(a)gmail.com> Date: Wed, Jul 13, 2011 at 12:42 AM Subject: p2pu.org - prototyping-the-innovation-ecology To: Michel Bauwens <michelsub2004(a)gmail.com> Applied to : http://p2pu.org/en/groups/prototyping-the-innovation-ecology How to create a business around offering an infrastructure for others to innovate Open source radio, shared workspaces, fabrication laboratories ... commons-based peer-production is making its way into all and any areas of society. Many of these initiatives provide shared infrastructures, and as their number grows so does the demand for sustainable business models for maintaining these infrastructures. In software, Open Source has resulted in profitable business, increased innovation, peer-production and more choice for businesses and consumers. While there are tried and tested business models for open source software development it is still a big adventure to transfer these models to the physical realm. This course aims to equip the daring who embark on this adventure with background theory, practical tools and an opportunity for peer-supported prototyping. -- P2P Foundation: http://p2pfoundation.net - http://blog.p2pfoundation.net Connect: http://p2pfoundation.ning.com; Discuss: http://lists.ourproject.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/p2p-foundation Updates: http://del.icio.us/mbauwens; http://friendfeed.com/mbauwens; http://twitter.com/mbauwens; http://www.facebook.com/mbauwens

Derrida I'm unsure, but Deleuze as a philosopher of the rhizome, of molecular (ie anti-hierarchical, bottom up and horizontal) systems and flows of information and matter in dynamic systems seems pretty easy to connect to p2p thinking of any variety. Given the influence Deleuze and Guattari's writings have had on other writings on the commons (eg Hardt and Negri) this seems like a pretty clear relation to me. Sy

Investing for Goods (was: equity-based crowdfunding in the UK)

http://www.crowdcube.com/pg/how-it-works-4 wrote: > 'crowd' of like minded trendsetters willing to > invest smaller amounts of cash in exchange > for rewards and a stake in their business. If the Crowd were the Users, and the Stake was co-ownership, and the rewards were the Product, We then have Use-Value Production. Free Software is a Use-Value Product. Peer Production is also for Use-Value. We need not worry about Exchange Value when the Users are the Owners, for in that case, the Product is not Sold, but is already the Property of the Agent who needs it! For example, each co-Owner of a fruit/nut orchard would 'pay' the collective others within that group by committing either Land, Capital or Labor. Once all Costs are covered, Production begins... Each Agent collects the same % of the Product as they have co-Ownership, and so the funding model wound need to target micro-payments from a large number of potential Users. This short-circuits and even eliminates some amount of Exchange. It reduces the Agent's need to Trade finished Goods, while simultaneously increasing the Agent's ability to Trade Skills. We can organize in this way to co-own the Hardware needed to host the Software we want to use for a better internet. But most importantly we must learn to share the Costs of our basic needs so we can finally enjoy the benefits of increased size as the economy of scale would allow us to finally own all forms of Production through the entire supply chain (tree) for all the Products we need.
