Re: [P2P-F] [FC-discuss] SFC conference in European Parliament and position paper

Dear Andrea, I got this appeal via Devin, I think there is a lot of policy experience also within the FC Forum, a pluralist organisation of internet rights activists and creators, which includes some expert members of the Pirate Party and other groups, and it produced two of its own reports, one on cultural rights and one on economic sustainability of free culture (see http://fcforum.net/ ; http://p2pfoundation.net/Free_Culture_Forum, http://p2pfoundation.net/Category:Culture) at the p2p-f, we are collating policy pages at http://p2pfoundation.net/Category:Policy (broader than free culture) so don't hesitate to update me and I can forward to both p2p-f and fcforum mailing lists, I imagine some of us on those two lists are still young enough to be students at uni's, and all of them are students of life, once you know what kind of assistance would be most useful, do let us know, Michel On Wed, Jul 20, 2011 at 10:22 PM, Devin Balkind <devin(a)sarapisfoundation.org > wrote: > I think the P2P-F community could be very helpful to Students for Free > Culture (SFC) as they draft this position paper. > > ---------- Forwarded message ---------- > From: <af529(a)york.ac.uk> > Date: Wed, Jul 20, 2011 at 10:46 AM > Subject: [FC-discuss] SFC conference in European Parliament and position > paper > To: core(a)freeculture.org > Cc: discuss(a)freeculture.org > > > Hi everyone! > > The next SFC conference will most likely be in Europe and we chose the > European Parliament as a location. Re: [P2P-F] The Modern Anglo-Dutch Empire
by Michel Bauwens 04 Aug '11

this seems like an original book, judging from the preface alone, I wonder if anyone is familiar with this history of the struggle against 'empire' ? One caveat though, it has a reference to LaRouche in the preface, and it you know anything about this extreme righ-wing cult, this should let the alarm bells ringing, I'm not at all familiar with the charge that Soros was responsible for stripping the jews in budapest of their possessions, that just doesn't ring true to me? Open System
by Rasmus Wikman 31 Jul '11

31 Jul '11

Hi all! First; I'm very glad I found your Foundation. A relief to see that there are other in the world that are concerned about the society! My reason for joining; I co-founded a printing company some years back and built a complete production management software for us. In the browser, based on open source software and standards only. After that I created a prototype web based design application to forgo the commerical alternatives to give everyone the possibility to design. I realised that because we have a revenue model based in the physical world we don't have to rely on advertising, subscriptions and transactions. While it might sound like nothing, I firmly belive it to be the fastest and least destructive way of re-achieving an open and free Internet. When the physical industries realise they can use only open source; they will. And sponsor development of all things open source. Instead of trying to recreate the Internet, I believe that it would be best to create a global P2P web based OS. The Internet is in it's essence a collection of static and dynamic applications, just like a desktop OS. So the next step for me was naturally to create a web based operating system since it's technologically possible. In the long run, this would mean that open hardware initiatives would have access to the same production management software as everyone else. I chose the name Ubuntu Online because I believe Ubuntu to be the best of open source initiatives. Mainly because it marries the "old world" with the new. http://www.ubuntuonline.me It's still a prototype and the description is rough, but I'm working on it daily. In an even longer run, it could be replaced with a completely new kind of system based on all open information and communication systems. I'd appriciate any feedback and reflections on the matter! Best regards, Rasmus Wikman
