Re: [P2P-F] [FC-discuss] SFC conference in European Parliament and position paper
Dear Andrea, I got this appeal via Devin, I think there is a lot of policy experience also within the FC Forum, a pluralist organisation of internet rights activists and creators, which includes some expert members of the Pirate Party and other groups, and it produced two of its own reports, one on cultural rights and one on economic sustainability of free culture (see http://fcforum.net/ ; http://p2pfoundation.net/Free_Culture_Forum, http://p2pfoundation.net/Category:Culture) at the p2p-f, we are collating policy pages at http://p2pfoundation.net/Category:Policy (broader than free culture) so don't hesitate to update me and I can forward to both p2p-f and fcforum mailing lists, I imagine some of us on those two lists are still young enough to be students at uni's, and all of them are students of life, once you know what kind of assistance would be most useful, do let us know, Michel On Wed, Jul 20, 2011 at 10:22 PM, Devin Balkind <[email protected]

Hi everyone!
The next SFC conference will most likely be in Europe and we chose the European Parliament as a location. The conference will be a little difference than what we had until now. The idea is to have one full day where students and policy makers sit side by side to promote open access, open source and the mixing and sharing of culture across the EU. With this goal in mind we aim at producing a position papers in the months preceding the event in order to present it there. The paper will be then sent for review to the EU commission for consideration. As things take time and holidays is just around the corner, are you interested in collaborating in this project?
Whether your knowledge is of EU institutions, free culture or advocacy you should help out in drafting this paper so that we can propose our beliefs and raise awareness on topics of fundamental importance in todays digitalized world!
Let's make it happen!

Dear Stefan and Michel, Thanks for your email. At the top of my head comes the need for supervision. What would be best is someone with experience in drafting these kind of papers in an EU context. So for example what kind of people do you need in the working group to account for all areas, and similar questions. In what specific ways can we cooperate? Have a great day! Hi Andrea, perhaps it would be best to work in two phases, one that is reserved to the free cultural students, to make sure your own voices are heard, and then subsequently, do a round of consultations with friendly stakeholders? It seems to me that the FC Forum has a broad mix of people .. i.e. creatives, internet user and rights groups, and concerned individuals ... I wasn't myself involved in the nitty gritty of writing the 2 reports of the forum, perhaps Simona or Mayo can tell you a bit more of the process that was used .. Hi Michel and everyone else, We are moving forward with drafting SFC position paper on education. Meet John and Reuben from Students for Free Culture Europe. John will be working in drafting this paper directly. SFC wants to favour OER at the European level. Following your previous emails, it would be beneficial for you and John to meet up(either sync with skype or async by email) and start drafting the paper. The conference's working document is here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1zRQFpDbHBYJtwuJgbxCOVsRpdgZkeiDsA-ruFd09... Unfortunately, I have been ill, then conferencing and now with iron commitments on urgent projects ... all I can do is offer commentary on what has been done, but I cannot possibly co-draft a paper at this time, really sorry for this, Michel On Sun, Aug 28, 2011 at 8:07 PM, <[email protected]> wrote:
