---------- Forwarded message --------- From: Post Growth Institute <info(a)postgrowth.org> Date: Thu, Aug 27, 2020 at 12:30 AM Subject: Post growth is going mainstream! Here's how you can be part of it To: Michel <michelsub2004(a)gmail.com> Discover how to revitalize your community, build lasting business success on a finite planet, and spark global generosity with Free Money Day 2020. <https://postgrowth.us2.list-manage.com/track/click?u=dcc08996cc57fb1c3f5af6…> Dear Michel, On August 22nd the PGI turned 10, and we've got a new shiny logo to celebrate! It so happens that the date was also Earth Overshoot Day – the moment when humanity’s demand for ecological resources exceeds what the planet can regenerate. As we work together to meet the challenges of climate change and the global pandemic, the *post-growth movement is moving into the mainstream*. In this month's newsletter, find out why more and more thinkers are in favor of *shifting away from growth*, and how *businesses can build lasting success on a finite planet*. Plus, discover a revolutionary set of *skills to strengthen and revitalize your community* with our Offers and Needs Market Facilitator Training, and help show that *a more generous world is possible* by taking part in Free Money Day 2020. In solidarity, Inspiration: Why Free Money Day makes you richer [image: Group holding up Free Money Day poster] <https://postgrowth.us2.list-manage.com/track/click?u=dcc08996cc57fb1c3f5af6…> September 15th is Free Money Day <https://postgrowth.us2.list-manage.com/track/click?u=dcc08996cc57fb1c3f5af6…>, when people across the world will hand out their own money to complete strangers, asking the recipients to pass on half to someone else. As well as being a conversation about the benefits of economies based on sharing, the day is an opportunity to expand our ability to receive. With love and vulnerability at the heart of the Free Money Day exchange, we can continue to heal the rifts that emerge in any scarcity-based culture. *Read more about why giving away money makes your richer <https://postgrowth.us2.list-manage.com/track/click?u=dcc08996cc57fb1c3f5af6…> and find out how to take part in a Covid-sensitive Free Money Day 2020. <https://postgrowth.us2.list-manage.com/track/click?u=dcc08996cc57fb1c3f5af6…>* Reimagining Economics: What kind of world do we want, post-Covid? This Grist article <https://postgrowth.us2.list-manage.com/track/click?u=dcc08996cc57fb1c3f5af6…> outlines how the pandemic has sparked urgent discussions about whether our growth-based economic model is fit to serve the needs of humanity and protect the environment. Fwd: Hope in Pandemic Times
by Michel Bauwens 26 Aug '20

26 Aug '20

---------- Forwarded message --------- From: Platform Coop Consortium <pcc(a)newschool.edu> Date: Wed, Aug 26, 2020 at 5:21 AM Subject: Hope in Pandemic Times To: <michel(a)p2pfoundation.net> The crisis opens up opportunities for liberation. View this email in your browser <https://mailchi.mp/platform.coop/organizing-alternatives-4853908?e=8d51b7a8…> August 25, 2020 by Trebor Scholz *Hope in Pandemic Times* The pandemic has hit us hard. We had to move out of our offices and have continued to collaborate remotely. We are glad to reconnect with you after some silence and trust that you are all safe and sane. The crisis opens up opportunities for liberation and we have been hard at work! In the last newsletter, we had announced the *Platform Co-ops Now!* <https://platform.us19.list-manage.com/track/click?u=f638bbafd5bc768b7aa06be…>course, which is the result of a formal collaboration between the PCC and Mondragon University. We were approached by over one thousand people who asked to register. This gave us a reason for hope, grounded in clear trajectories of practice. 418 participants from 49 countries ended up enrolling in this inaugural online class, which was supported by CICOPA <https://platform.us19.list-manage.com/track/click?u=f638bbafd5bc768b7aa06be…> and 47 local partner organizations worldwide (acknowledged below). We owe a debt of gratitude to our partner organizations around the world that came together with a few weeks' notice. With gutsiness and insight, they helped to incubate 112 platform co-op initiatives in their local contexts. Our partners translated the lectures into Italian, Spanish, and Korean. Read more about the course from The New School <https://platform.us19.list-manage.com/track/click?u=f638bbafd5bc768b7aa06be…> and Mondragon <https://platform.us19.list-manage.com/track/click?u=f638bbafd5bc768b7aa06be…> University. *Platform Co-ops Now!* <https://platform.us19.list-manage.com/track/click?u=f638bbafd5bc768b7aa06be…> was a tipping point for our movement. Beyond the significant global engagement, the course was a formidable experience of the international community with participants coming from disparate cultures, religions, and political backgrounds. Course alumni are connecting on the first Friday of each month. *But this online class was just the beginning. If you could not join the inaugural course, please register for the upcoming one now.* Many people have asked us to offer *Platform Co-ops Now! *again. While this first course was supported by the PCC at The New School, the next iteration <https://platform.us19.list-manage.com/track/click?u=f638bbafd5bc768b7aa06be…> will be logistically hosted by Mondragon University. *The dates are October 26, 2020 - January 29, 2021. * The course will again be taught by Trebor Scholz and Jose Mari Luzarraga Monasterio. For pricing and sign up details, see this page <https://platform.us19.list-manage.com/track/click?u=f638bbafd5bc768b7aa06be…>. *The Course Is For People Who Are: * - Determined to launch dignified digital platforms that offer decent work, - Members of cooperatives or startups who want to transition their enterprise to a platform cooperative. If you have further questions, please contact platformcoops(a)mondragon.edu. *From Simon Pek:* A research team led out of the University of Victoria is working on a research project investigating platform worker cooperatives’ governance, with a particular focus on potential governance challenges and how they can be overcome. This project is expected to help simplify the start-up process for platform cooperatives and help existing ones avoid common governance pitfalls. All leaders and/or founders of platform worker cooperatives (that have workers as one of their core member groups) and that have knowledge of the governance of the cooperative are eligible to participate. Participating in this study will involve an interview that is expected to last about one hour and can be done over the phone or on a program like Skype. The researchers will maintain participants’ confidentiality and not use their names or the names of the platforms they work for in any publications. If you or anybody you know is eligible, please consider participating in this research project or sharing this note with people in your network. Interested participants can contact Dr. Simon Pek, the Principal Investigator, at spek(a)uvic.ca <spek(a)uvic.ca?subject=via%20PCC%20newsletter> anytime to learn more. - Member of our Circle of Advisors Howard Browdsky (yes, the father of Greg Brodsky) has received the Business Leader of the Decade award <https://platform.us19.list-manage.com/track/click?u=f638bbafd5bc768b7aa06be…>. To: <michelsub2004(a)gmail.com> "Abolition is about presence, not absence. It's about building life-affirming institutions" - Ruth Wilson Gilmore View this email in your browser <https://mailchi.mp/5cee0b50301d/can-the-internet-be-saved-4107097?e=6fd37f6…> Can the commons replace cops? Dear fellow commoners, Earlier this week, someone shared a post from 2018 that really struck me. It read: "If you call the cops and say "I'm homeless and starving, please help me!" they are not required to (and most likely will not) help you in any way. But, if someone calls them and says "I saw someone taking food out of the trash and sleeping on a park bench!" they are typically obligated to come arrest you or at least chase you away. And yet, people will swear up and down that policing is an essential service that is designed to protect us. They don't protect people. They protect property. If you don't have (enough) property, then your protection does not matter to them." The sentiment of this statement has felt incredibly apparent these past few months with, amongst others, the US killings of George Floyd <https://commonstransition.us3.list-manage.com/track/click?u=264f449ada6578c…> in May, Breonna Taylor (for which justice has STILL NOT BEEN SERVED <https://commonstransition.us3.list-manage.com/track/click?u=264f449ada6578c…>) in her bed in March and this week's shooting of Jacob Blake <https://commonstransition.us3.list-manage.com/track/click?u=264f449ada6578c…> seven times in his back by police in Wisconsin, in front of his three young children, as he tried to break up a fight. It's clear that police brutality, and violence against Black people, people of colour and marginalised people in general, are deeply systemic issues <https://commonstransition.us3.list-manage.com/track/click?u=264f449ada6578c…>. And it's not just happening in the USA; countries the world over have countless examples of police brutality; prioritising protection of property and power and acting with systemic prejudice. Take a look at the UK <https://commonstransition.us3.list-manage.com/track/click?u=264f449ada6578c…>, South Africa <https://commonstransition.us3.list-manage.com/track/click?u=264f449ada6578c…>, Mexico <https://commonstransition.us3.list-manage.com/track/click?u=264f449ada6578c…> and India <https://commonstransition.us3.list-manage.com/track/click?u=264f449ada6578c…> as just a few examples. The events of the past months have ignited a more mainstream conversation about what it might look like to 'defund' or 'abolish' the police and to invest in preventing the causes of crime; and spending the money that would usually be spent on policing on schools, hospitals and healthcare, better housing, mental health support and domestic violence interventions. Defunding the police would also look like co-creating alternative systems to prevent and repond to violent crimes. <https://commonstransition.us3.list-manage.com/track/click?u=264f449ada6578c…> What does defund the police actually mean? From The Guardian. <https://commonstransition.us3.list-manage.com/track/click?u=264f449ada6578c…> There's been some incredible groundwork laid by people and groups the world over to work towards police-less communities (some examples of which I will share below) and it's a topic of great importance for those of us who are interested in a more mainstream transition to commoning. If the commons can be considered a social system for democratically, equitably and sustainably managing the resources of a community; then there are important conversations to be had about what justice and security might look like in more collaborative, localised, close-knit systems, with minimal or no reliance on the market or state. With the City of Minneapolis pledging to disband the police <https://commonstransition.us3.list-manage.com/track/click?u=264f449ada6578c…> ; Los Angeles City Council cutting its police budget <https://commonstransition.us3.list-manage.com/track/click?u=264f449ada6578c…> and the New York abolish the police campaign gaining steam - the possibility of a police-free world isn't out of the question. I'd love to know of practical projects and resources that address police abolition and alternatives from a commons perspective - I struggled to find them. If you know of any, please send them my way. I leave you with this cute animation from Dan Nott <https://commonstransition.us3.list-manage.com/track/click?u=264f449ada6578c…>imagining a police-free future. With much love, Elsie *Commoning around the world* *Open Policing Project* Hey, the commons is also helping with tracking police/public interactions in the USA. The Stanford Open Policing project is collecting and standardizing data on vehicle and pedestrian stops from law enforcement departments across the country and making that information freely available. To-date they gathered over 200 million records from dozens of state and local police departments across the country. Find out more about the project here. <https://commonstransition.us3.list-manage.com/track/click?u=264f449ada6578c…> *Isn't that public safety?* Luna Syenite made a series of wicked posters a couple of years ago that imagined alternatives to policing. They demonstrate some really creative alternative responses to some of the situations that we might typically anticipate the police to be involved in (whether they should be or not). See them all here. <https://commonstransition.us3.list-manage.com/track/click?u=264f449ada6578c…> *MPD150: A People's Project Evaluating Policing* MPD150 is a Minneapolis-based, participatory, horizontally-organized effort by local organizers, researchers, artists and activists. The goal of this initiative is to shift the discussion of police violence in Minneapolis from one of procedural reforms to one of meaningful structural change. To do this they are calling for participatory budgeting: flipping the way budgets are developed by starting with assessing people’s fundamental needs, prioritizing the needs of communities suffering from injustice and then raising revenue in an equitable way to fund needs-based budgets. This process must be fully participatory, transparent and accountable. Vitale* This book attempts to spark public discussion by revealing the tainted origins of modern policing as a tool of social control. It shows how the expansion of police authority is inconsistent with community empowerment, social justice—even public safety. Drawing on groundbreaking research from across the world, and covering virtually every area in the increasingly broad range of police work, Alex Vitale demonstrates how law enforcement has come to exacerbate the very problems it is supposed to solve. In contrast, there are places where the robust implementation of policing alternatives—such as legalization, restorative justice, and harm reduction—has led to reductions in crime, spending, and injustice. The best solution to bad policing may be an end to policing. The idea of writing another one during this encouraging and overwhelming month was really challenging to me. So, to help keep my morale up, I decided to write about police and prisons in past tense, as if they had already been abolished." Fwd: Working with mostly-truths
by Michel Bauwens 23 Aug '20

23 Aug '20

---------- Forwarded message --------- From: David Chapman <dc(a)meaningness.com> Date: Sat, Aug 22, 2020 at 5:43 AM Subject: Working with mostly-truths To: <michelsub2004(a)gmail.com> This week: - Introducing mostly-truths - Follow-ups to last week’s exercises - Workbook: mostly-truths The two chapters per week plan Both are about truth: a central concern in both rationality and rationalism. “Rationalism mistakenly supposes formal rationality’s theory of truth applies unambiguously in the real world” is one way of summarizing Part One of *The Eggplant*. - “The value of meaninglessness <http://mail01.tinyletterapp.com/Meaningness/working-with-mostly-truths/1775…>”: A quick and easy read. A major breakthrough for rationalism was recognizing that statements may be neither true nor false, but meaningless. That was a first step toward a more sophisticated understanding of truth. - “The truth of the matter <http://mail01.tinyletterapp.com/Meaningness/working-with-mostly-truths/1775…>”: A longer and more difficult chapter: two thousand words, or about six printed pages. Even in hard science, most truths are only mostly true. Formal rationality doesn’t work with “mostly truths.” Yet it does often work in science. What’s the resolution of this paradox? Workbook follow-ups Last week’s exercise prepared for this week’s. It suggested looking out for mostly-truths: - When you encounter one, ask *in what sense* is this true? In what sense false? - Is it a problem that this thing is not quite either true or false? Why or why not? - What could you do about it, if it is a problem? How did that go? What did you notice? Also last week: The feelings of meta-rationality include wonder, curiosity, amusement, playfulness, enjoyment, and creativity <http://mail01.tinyletterapp.com/Meaningness/working-with-mostly-truths/1775…> . Can you remember concrete cases when any of those feelings arose during your technical work in the past week? Can you remember what triggered that? (Something else to look out for!) Workbook: working with mostly-truths Read “The truth of the matter <http://mail01.tinyletterapp.com/Meaningness/working-with-mostly-truths/1775…>” before proceeding. - What is the difference between “mostly true” and “usually but not always true”? This distinction is critical because you can reason about “not always truths” probabilistically, but probability theory doesn’t work with “mostly truths.” - Why not? (Do you remember? Did you get that bit?) Near the end, “The truth of the matter” foreshadows a central point of Part Three of *The Eggplant*: How do we reason formally without the absolute truths that formal reasoning methods formally require? Some rational inferences turn out to be *true enough* under “reasonable” (non-rational) interpretation in a specific context. For this to work, we have to choose carefully which mostly-truths to work with. We have to know, or reason about, which formal inferences we can get away with—even though, starting from only-mostly truths, they are not logically sound. Part Three explains how and when and why that works. We’ll need a complex conceptual background structure to understand the details—about 250 printed pages of theoretical explanation. This week’s exercise suggests getting a direct, pre-theoretical understanding through observing your experience of doing rationality. I’m assuming here that you routinely and competently engage in some sort of systematic, rational work. If so, you do as a practice what Part Three describes in theory. If you observe that practice accurately, you may not need the theory! You may figure out similar explanations for yourself. And Part Three will make much more sense when you get there. - Look out for “mostly truths” in the course of your work. - In situations where rationality mostly works, mostly-truths mostly don’t cause trouble. When you notice a mostly-truth, ask: why is it not a problem that this is not absolutely true? - Pick one example that is usually only more-or-less true, rather than one that is usually absolutely true, but not always. - Usually, you can’t list all the ways a mostly-truth might not be quite true. However, you can usually think of a few. For each way: concretely, why are you able to ignore that possibility? - What specific factors in the situation make it feasible to treat the mostly-truth as though it is fully true? - What are you doing to avoid or mitigate the possible problems not-altogether-truth might cause? - What are other people in the situation doing to make the mostly-truth work out OK? Noticing what you are doing and how and why, as you do rationality, is *meta-rational reflection*. Part Four, the heart of *The Eggplant*, is about that. This is a meta-rational exercise… One approach to the logistics here is to make a mental note, “oh, this is a good example of a mostly-truth,” when you encounter one. Then spend half an hour in the evening going through the questions above. Perhaps write out brief answers in a notebook—paper or digital. All the more important to keep all of you, who are interested in monetary reform internationally, connected and informed despite the restrictions on travelling and meeting in person. The ensuing global financial crisis has just begun... Monneta-expert Stephanie Rearick <https://monneta.us10.list-manage.com/track/click?u=5946820fbb88dd524bd7cc54…> from Wisconsin works in time-banking and founded the Mutual Aid Network. Another international source we like to follow is the blog of UK based "modern money" commentator Brett Scott, see for example his article on why the "war on Covid must not become a war on cash <https://monneta.us10.list-manage.com/track/click?u=5946820fbb88dd524bd7cc54…> ". A campaign to the opposite effect - putting money and finance back under democratic control instead of leaving it with private corporations - is the Californian campaign for a Public State Bank. After the success of getting the Public Bank Act (AB 857) passed almost a year ago, this bank would complement the public banks on the city or regional level, each creating and channeling the funds needed not only for Covid-reponse and recovery, but also for the much needed restructuring of an economy that cares for all people and the climate. Qanon, Burning Man, the failure of Neoliberalism, and the Occult If Trump wins agains, one main reason will be that the Democrats forfeited their working class base more than a decade ago. Clinton and Obama embraced the empty promises and "social vaporware" of the tech sector, along with the financialized capitalism model of Wall Street. These forces worked together to eliminate millions of jobs while promising a future of increased automation, self-driving trucks, etc. Rich neoliberal technocrats love this vision, but working people hate it. Workers need jobs to survive in the current system. Automation robs them of their future livelihood. I have written a lot about Burning Man in the last decades, going from a major proponent to a critic of the festival over time. There are many things I love about Burning Man (which is canceled for this year due to Covid), but I also feel it crystallized the Libertarian, Neo-spiritual ideology of the Silicon Valley elite into something like a smug pseudo-religion. I went there for the first time in 2000. During my early years at the festival, I noticed a tension between two ideologies: mystical anarchism the hedonistic libertarian Capitalism. The mystical anarchists wanted to go beyond an ethos of purely personal liberation, endless repetitive partying and self-congratulation. They wanted to take that energy into the world as a socially and ecologically redemptive force. Burners Without Borders was one great example. The hedonistic Libertarians — in general, the wealthier contingent — ended up taking control of the festival. They only wanted to continue the party. Flashy million dollar art cars became like yachts in Ibiza: Status symbols of coolness. Excess was always part of the in joke. Finally that joke wasn't funny anymore. But the “Burners” didn’t notice. Partying became an addiction for many, with the disassociative Ketamine the drug of choice. Meanwhile, the world was starting to collapse around us — only most hadn’t realized it yet. Much like Facebook and many tech companies, Burning Man was largely built by financially unrewarded volunteer labor, while the "brand" was controlled by a small group who enriched themselves and treated it as not so different than any other entertainment conglomerate. Those who got to determine the main action at the festival were the wealthy elite, who could build million dollar domes and art projects. It became a mirror of the mainstream society, stratified by class. I deeply appreciate that Burning Man brings so many brilliant minds and influencers together in an arena where it is possible to meet them and talk with them about our future direction as a species. What I learned from these conversations was that terrible futurist ideas about the Singularity and transhumanism had taken hold. I helped start a grassroots transformational movement, the Evolver Network, from 2009 - 2013. We hoped to harness the positive aspects of what seemed emergent in the festival culture at Burning Man and elsewhere. The new paradigm included healing modalities, shamanism, esoteric disciplines, consciousness, etc, but also permaculture, local economies, and a DIY community-building ethos that was proto-political. Many of the camps and "Neo-tribes" at Burning Man are, in themselves, miracles of self-organization and intelligent social design. The camps evolve like indigenous communities, working as functional meritocracies, with leaders emerging organically, as communities identify and empower their master problem solvers. This is actually "practical anarchism," made up of fluidic, dispersive structures based on rational authority. I wanted to help bring this emergent model of social organization into local communities across the US and internationally. Even in 2008, I felt that the United States desperately needed a new visionary ideology and collective social mission as an antidote to the increasing wealth stratification and "gig economy." I also saw that the social elite in the US were abandoning the middle of the country for NY, LA, and SF — and that millions of people in the "flyover states" were festering in resentment which was slowly building into a fury. In my idealistic vision, I imagined this social elite, charged up from their ecstatic and proto-utopian communion at Burning Man and elsewhere, taking it on as a spiritual mission to transform society as a whole. We could have reversed wealth stratification by building autonomous and independent local communities (using local currencies, Local Exchange Trading Systems, etc). Tech could have been employed to help this in a holistic, non-paternalistic, way. Instead, of course, the opposite happened. Obama turned out to be a disaster, brutally betraying the hopes of the working people who rallied in great numbers for him. We can ask if this was simply a structural issue, in that the military/Wall St/industrial institutional complex in the US had so much power and inertia that nobody could change it, or if it was partly a question of Obama's actual character compared to the idealization of him. I tend to think both but certainly the latter played a part: After 2008, Obama had tens of millions of people ready to volunteer in a nationwide movement to transform American society and make it more participatory and democratic. He disbanded his volunteer army rather than empowering it. Eventually, Obama's failure to address our core issues, and essentially the Neo-liberal "progressives" utter corruption by Wall St and seduction by the social vaporware ideology of the Tech Sector led to its dialectical antidote: Trumpism. Basically, by voting for Trump, the masses are voting for the willful destruction of American society in its present form. The Apocalyptic ideology of Christian evangelicals, who fall behind Trump despite his personal history, adds fuel to the fire. Qanon Now we are seeing the rapid cancerous growth and surprise mutations of a new culture virus: Qanon. Qanon is not only infecting the Right Wing working class, it is making rapid inroads into the post-New Age or festival / "consciousness community". Anthropologically, this is both fascinating and terrifying to watch. What makes it terrifying, frankly, is that one can sense a kind of irrational fanaticism and fervor behind it that seems similar to the weird delusional occult ideologies that culminated in the Nazi Holocaust. Qanon takes the deep wellsprings of anger against the neoliberal progressive and mainstream liberal establishment in the US and transmutes it into something depraved and Satanic. It is quickly moving from cult to religion. It is weaponizing people's sensible moral feelings about child abuse and pedophilia, and making this the core of a new ideology. The problem is that there are elements of truth mixed up within it in very confusing ways. The weaponizing of Qanon and other conspiracy theories (like those around George Soros and Bill Gates) is an intentional Psy Op benefitting the hidden international criminal syndicate propping up Trumpism and the forward-march of cynical authoritarianism around the world. What is to be done? I tried to answer that question in depth in my 2017 book, *How Soon Is Now <https://email.mg2.substack.com/c/eJwlUEuugzAMPE2zRJCGEBZZvE2vgfJxi9WQ0MQUcf…>*, and also in my recent online course, *Building Our Regenerative Future <https://email.mg2.substack.com/c/eJwlUM3OhCAMfJrlaBT_8MDhu-xrGIRRySK6WDS-_Y…>*. I addressed it also, philosophically and metaphysically, in my 2006 book, *2012: The Return of Quetzalcoatl*. In general, the "Big Lie" cannot be counteracted with lesser forms of hypocrisy and modulated cynicism. People need to reach a bedrock foundation of truth together — we need to rebuild our consensus reality from the ground up, phenomenologically, politically, spiritually, and ecologically. The problematics of gender, patriarchy, and human sexuality also need to be authentically addressed, as part of a new cooperative movement. The "destiny" of technology also needs to be corrected, philosophically: We need to redirect the creative and technical capacities of human society toward a new vision, based on a new humane and empathic ethos. We do need the current ossified institutional structures to break down and collapse, as they are currently doing. But if these structures collapse too quickly and without an alternative in place, this will only lead to worse catastrophe. I also feel compelled to state what I know to be true: There is an occult, esoteric aspect to reality: This is not something specious or fake. It is as real as anything else. However, the occult and esoteric domains function according to their own laws and principles. These must be learned, understood, and transmitted, at least to a small or elite contingent of humanity. I find the suppression of occultism (the domain of the Psyche in Jungian terms) by the mainstream liberal / materialist orthodoxy to be one critical issue, at this point. Until we can find a coherent way to speak with each other about these hidden aspects of reality, we are unable to respond effectively to what is underway. This is why I am so excited about How to Explore Other Worlds <https://email.mg2.substack.com/c/eJwlkcuO5CAMRb8m7IgIeS9YdKunpZFm1btZRQRcFa…> and why I sincerely you will join us for this adventure. <https://email.mg2.substack.com/c/eJxVUcuupCAQ_Zp2pwEExQWLm0nmNwyPaiWtYAP2vd…> We must realize that occult forces and agendas ("powers and principalities") move through our world, making use of human agents and drawing energy from our emotions, intentions, and actions. As indigenous people like the Kogi have been warning us, there is a deeper intrinsic relationship between our internal state of being (our level of spiritual and self development) as individuals, and the reality we see reflected around us in the apparent material realm. Everything we experience is interdependently co-arising, out of a primordial unity which this universe will eventually subside back into. Therefore our individual karma and actions are inextricably connected to everyone and everything else. As primate beings emerging from more primitive forms of social organization that functioned well enough for us at previous evolutionary stages, humans tend to see the world in terms of our immediate self-interest, which extends to our family or clan/tribe/community. Nation-state organization relies on this in-group / out-group primate mentality through the ideology of patriotism, which can be used to mobilize men for warfare or other forms of organized violence. For humanity to survive, enough of us must integrate and anchor this mystical and occult realization and make the shift from a self-interested or clan-based mentality to thinking and acting with a truly planetary frame of reference. We must come to see ourselves as sentient agents of a larger biospheric collective, encompassing all life on Earth, and work, in the Buckminster Fuller mode, for the comprehensive success of everyone. People often realize this, at least briefly, when they have their initial deep psychedelic experiences, as with ayahuasca, mushrooms, or LSD. The problem is that they need a cultural / initiatory context or container which supports them in fully integrating the influx of new knowledge and wisdom that comes into them during these journeys. Otherwise, the ego structure finds ways to distort these revelations for its own purposes, in a variety of subtle ways. This is how the Neo-spiritual and psychedelic movement have gone off track. Fascism is a kind of low-grade occultism: It satisfies the ego mind's desire for a simplistic unity and gets rid of all the nagging paradoxes and contradictions of reality. Trump, himself, is an occultist. He grew up in the Church of Norman Peale, author of The Power of Positive Thinking (a pragmatic American form of occultism), and lives according to this philosophy to an extraordinary degree, combined with a nihilistic belief that "nothing matters," as he has stated he believes. In a strange dark way, this gives him more access to something real than many of his political opponents, who play by outmoded rules. He truly doesn't give a shit not just on a materialist but also on a metaphysical level. If we are going to build a movement that leads us beyond this present impasse which may be fatal for most of humanity (due to the imminent ecological collapse), it has to begin with the truth of our human condition, as conduits of an infinite consciousness that takes individuated forms to explore its possibilities. We also have to realize ourselves, not as members of a county or self-interested clan, but catalytic agents of the biosphere itself, with a responsibility to protect and steward all forms of life (as indigenous people know). By evaluating our individual skills and talents objectively, we can discover how to apply ourselves to the mission of salvaging and redeeming our Earthly situation. This movement must recognize that capital is a form of energy — based on a set of beliefs, money is reified ideology. Through a mass awakening, we can reinvent and redirect our creative, technical, and financial toward life-sustaining and life-supporting goals. If we can’t accomplish this quickly, the future does not look bright for our species. Right now, this opportunity still exists. I hope we take it. *If you like my writing and my ideas and want me to flourish and produce more work, you are welcome to contribute to my Patreon, which is here <https://email.mg2.substack.com/c/eJxdUMGuhCAM_JrlaJBFhQOHd3m_YRCqkkVgoa7x7x…>.
