Fwd: Common Healing - trailer for the feature documentary on the commons
by Michel Bauwens 23 Jun '11

---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Kevin Hansen <hankaiwen(a)gmail.com> Date: Thu, Jun 23, 2011 at 10:43 AM Subject: Common Healing - trailer for the feature documentary Hi Everyone - Over the past year, we have filmed in Europe, Brazil, Mexico and the US Gulf of Mexico states for a feature-length documentary on the important subject of the Commons, with the help of many, many people - including all of you. The 20-min draft trailer for this film, tentatively entitled "Common Healing<http://vimeo.com/25486271>," is now on Vimeo. This film is moving forward as I write, but this trailer version may be useful already, in some situations. Newer trailer versions will be posted occasionally - probably on both Vimeo and on PierreTerre.com. 1. We still need to film more "commons-in-action" so please send me a note if you know of one amenable to documentary coverage!! 2. A short list of "Twelve Benefits of a Commons-Based Approach" is included as text with the video. Please forward thoughts to me for incorporation, as possible within the context of a larger film (and likely including short videos highlighting special related topics...). We are still early in the process, and have a lot to do to produce the final documentary, so your comments will help. Thank you so very, very much for all of your help - it has been an inspiring process. All of you helped to make this possible, and some of you appear on screen in this trailer version and/or the credits: http://vimeo.com/25486271 Thanks for all the very good work of your endeavors. by the way, this video by former intelligence officers is really powerful stuff, and sounds absolutely powerful... probably done at Defcon or similar places places where hackers and intelligence meet .. put it on amaia, I suggest you use the title: 'Former intelligence operatives call for p2p revolution" On Tue, Jun 21, 2011 at 11:59 PM, Amaia Arcos <amaia.arcos(a)googlemail.com>wrote: > So, is this a good idea for a post? > > Lulzsec and Anonymous have joined forces and pledged to attack those who > attack internet freedom, ie govs, etc. They have also invited any colour hat > hacker to join forces. > > They are also widely circulating this video > http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mgj0ge6Iwu0 > I have no idea if the guy is genuine but he sounds convincing and the video > is being taken seriously, the motivation it generates is what matters, no? > He does talk about horizontal bottom up as well. > > Let me know, I could post the statement by Lulzsec (yesterday), the arrest > of some Lulzsec kid in England (today) and add this video as something these > hackers are watching. Hi chris, is this in the right format for our regular blog (it wasn't for Ning), if so, thanks for adding it, Michel The Open Hardware Summit Call for submissions is open. Deadline is June 24th. Please RT, forward and blog! This post is also available on the open hardware summit website< http://www.openhardwaresummit.org/2011/06/06/open-hardware-summit-2011-call… > Thanks ! Open Hardware Summit 2011 – Call for Submissions Posted on June 6, 2011< http://www.openhardwaresummit.org/2011/06/06/open-hardware-summit-2011-call… > by ayah <http://www.openhardwaresummit.org/author/ayah/> The Open Hardware Summit (OHS) invites submissions for the second annual summit, to be held on*September 15, 2011* in New York City. The Open Hardware Summit <http://www.openhardwaresummit.org/> is a venue to present, discuss, and learn about open hardware of all kinds. The summit examines open hardware and its relation to other issues, such as software, design, business, and law. We are seeking submissions for talks, breakout sessions, and demos from individuals and groups working with open hardware and related areas. Submissions are due *by June 24, 2011*. Notification of accepted proposals will happen *by August 1st*. Since the first Open Hardware Summit in 2010, we have seen the open hardware movement continue to flourish. The Open-Source Hardware Definition was announced <http://freedomdefined.org/OSHW>, the OSHW logo was selected by a popular vote< http://www.openhardwaresummit.org/2011/04/07/oshw-logo-selected/>, an open source oil spill cleaning robot got more than $33,000 in crowd funding< http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/cesarminoru/protei-open-hardware-oil-sp… >, Google adopted the open hardware movement’s biggest success story, Arduino, as its platform< http://blog.makezine.com/archive/2011/05/google-picks-arduino-for-android-o… > and our very own keynote speaker, Limor Fried, was featured on the front page of Wired Magazine <http://www.adafruit.com/blog/2011/03/16/thank-you-makers/> – to name a few. Needless to say, open hardware is getting BIG. Submission topics Topics of interest for the summit include, but are not limited to: - Lessons learned from past projects - Legal and intellectual property implications of open-source hardware - Means of supporting collaboration and community interaction - Manufacturing - Distributed development and its relationship to physical goods - Digital fabrication (e.g. laser cutters and 3D printers) - Software design tools (CAD / CAM) - DIY technology - Ways to share information about hardware that’s not captured in source files - Business models - Manufacturing on demand - Competition and collaboration - Sustainability of open hardware products (e.g. how to unmake things) - Industrial design - “open-washing” (green washing for open source) - Open-hardware in the enterprise - Specific product domains: e.g. science, agriculture, communications, medicine And any other topic you think relates to openness and hardware. We want to hear all about it! Types of submissions You may submit proposals for one or more of the following formats: Talk - Expected duration for talks is between 5 and 20 minutes, depending on the number and quality of submissions. - We expect all talks to be plenary (i.e. presented to the entire summit audience). - Talk submissions primarily containing marketing for a product will not be accepted. However, talks that share knowledge and insight derived from work on commercial products are welcome. Breakout session - Depending on submissions, there may be an opportunity to organize breakout sessions with smaller groups (5-40) to discuss a particular topic - We expect breakout sessions to occur during a single time-slot of approximately 1 to 2 hours. - Breakout session submissions should include an overview of the content and plan for the session. - You are encouraged to co-author breakout session submissions with other interested parties but sessions will be open to general summit attendees. Project Demo - This is a casual show and tell session that will take place during the end-of-day drinks. - You are encouraged to include pictures as part of your demo submissions. - Please include all demo requirements: amount and type of space (e.g. “one 3×3 foot table and one chair” or “a 5 × 5 section of wall with at least 10 feet in front of it”), power requirements (note: we cannot provide any power adaptors). Please keep in mind this is an informal project demo, and complex requirements/constraints (internet, light/sound conditions etc) will be difficult to accommodate. - It will be your responsibility to carry/assemble/set up/disassemble your demo. We cannot provide any support for the receiving, storing, or shipping of demos. - Note: If submitting a project demo, Your project MUST be working by the time of the summit. Submission format - Submissions should be formatted as plain text of no more than 1,000 words in length and include ALLof the following: - The type of submission (talk, breakout session, or demo) - A title - A bio of the speaker(s) (That’s you!) - What you intend to talk about, the topic for your breakout session, or a description of your demo - An explanation the importance of your submission to the open-hardware community - A maximum of TWO photos that help explain your topic of submission (optional) Submissions should be emailed to *proposals [AT] openhardwaresummit.org* with the subject line “Open Hardware Summit submission” followed by the type of submission in parentheses (e.g. “Open Hardware Summit submission (breakout session)”). *Deadline is JUNE 24th, 2011 BY 11:59pm (EST)*. Accepted submissions WILL BE PUBLISHED on the OHS website. For more information For more details about the Open Hardware Summit, see the website at openhardwaresummit.org <http://www.openhardwaresummit.org/>Please direct questions about submissions to the *Review Chair, David Mellis*, at mellis [AT] media.mit.edu. political collaborations around p2p advancement
by Michel Bauwens 22 Jun '11

22 Jun '11

Dear Amaia, Orsan and friends, As you know, I'm quite enthused by the square occupation and popular assembly movement emerging in Europe, as i consider it to be the first massive cultural and political expression of the p2p ethos ... however, being overwhelmed right now, including by issues of personal survival, I was wondering if you, orsan and amaia, could make a particular effort at interconnecting the p2p-f efforts with new emerging groups and people ... I'm thinking in particular of roarmag, the new significance, the dsg, and the european revolution groups, i.e. could you get in touch with them, explain briefly what we do, show our coverage, and see from there whether further collaborations are possible?
