Fwd: <Coalition> The social consequences of high income disparity. A meta-analysis in a Ted talk.

Richard Wilkinson: How economic inequality harms societies @ TED presentation : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cZ7LzE3u7Bw ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Mark Roest <marklroest(a)gmail.com> Date: Fri, Nov 11, 2011 at 5:47 AM Subject: <Coalition> The social consequences of high income disparity. A meta-analysis in a Ted talk. To: Hello All, Some people might want to watch the video first, then read what I wrote as my understanding of it. http://www.ted.com/talks/richard_wilkinson.html The social consequences of high income disparity. Here is the evidence that income disparities like those in the US are pathological. Even the rich, who in America, far beyond any other country, earn about 340 times more than the lowest paid worker in their companies, have about 20% more health impacts than the rich in companies with less income inequality. But the rich are far healthier, and live close to ten years longer, than the poor, within a society like ours. Only one country has more income inequality than we do: Singapore, which is essentially one city-country, in the way that San Francisco is one city-county. So as he demonstrates with graph after graph after graph: our society is pathologically unequal. And now is the time when we organize to put an end to it, by sharing our thoughts, speaking our minds, organizing politically, running for all offices, helping each other out, teaching what we know, challenging the lies, rules and results that thwart us in living our values of mutual support and fulfilling our potential as human beings, and that literally poison the majority of us, and the world we live in -- the world we count on to be a healthy and safe place for our children, ourselves, our parents -- and the rest of Creation. November 17 is coming soon; Van Jones and MoveOn are organizing a national day of resistence, and have created a very effective Teach-In kit for sharing and discussing the roots of the problems we face, and the basics of facing them and overcoming them. It is not everything we need to know, but it effectively presents some of what we need to know. Let's start. And another reminder for those who can get to San Francisco: the Green Festival is this Saturday and Sunday, and it's about education, empowerment and joy! Fwd: Update on Electoral Reform Act, New Electoral Reform Summit
by Michel Bauwens 11 Nov '11

11 Nov '11

---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Robert Steele <robert.david.steele.vivas(a)gmail.com> Date: Fri, Nov 11, 2011 at 8:54 AM Subject: Update on Electoral Reform Act, New Electoral Reform Summit To: Robert.David.Steele.Vivas(a)gmail.com Dear Colleagues, The Statement of Demand has been smoothed out, the most important fix being changing fascism to plutocracy. It is in version 3.4. The Electoral Reform Act of 2012 has attracted an astonishing range of contributors, aided by Gordon Cook's book on Eva Waskell, her contribution of the eleven Election Integrity Principles from Gail Work and others; we also have the 18 year old vote crowd, the Hand-Counted Paper Ballots (HCPB) crowd, and most recently, the experts at electology.org. With version 3.8 up and 3.9 to be posted tomorrow, I believe we are close to a "collective intelligence" version that can go to labor unions, my next focus of effort. Today I communicated the existence of the Act to all of the political parties except for the Democractic and Republican parties. I have been heartened by immediate feedback, with two party leaders (Reform and Light) getting in touch with me personally. I have told all of them that I believe an Electoral Reform Summit in early December could serve a unifying purpose, and that if the political parties came together with Occupy on this "one thing," we could have ourselves a considerable majority going into 5 January. Next week I will do the same thing with the labor unions. I have no idea where this is going to end up, but the list of electoral reform Paul Reveres is growing, the substantive contributions to the Act have been stellar, and I believe that what we are doing is necessary and righteous. We may not succeed, but I have the beginning of a feeling that this is moving at the right speed for a 5 January national demand. After the labor unions I will focus on finalizing the national list and organizing constituent delegations to each Senator and each Representative at their home offices over the holiday period, to ensure that each of them is confronted with constituents demanding action and specifically co-sponsorship of the Electoral Reform Act of 2012 as the price of their remaining in office. Re: [P2P-F] OSE Europe - Open Process
by Michel Bauwens 10 Nov '11

Dear Nikolay, is it okay to share this with our list? I can't really recommend any technical process, and I copy Sam rose for that, as for the governance 1) the community is the core and allowed permissionless contributions ; selection for excellence is done by accepted maintainers who have gained the confidence of the community and of each other 2) OSE-E is the formal entity responsible for maintaining the infrastructure of cooperation, but is not in command and control of the production process; it should be democratically managed 3) Use the peer production license to allow free usage by other commons-friendly market entities, but make other for-profits pay (define set of minimum conditions) 4) try to create your own cooperative entity for such activities, and create some kind of alliance of entities using the commons, which integrates various stakeholders 5) develop an ethical funding strategy, based on crowdfunding; look into the open hardware central bank, Goteo hope that gives some ideas, Michel On Sun, Nov 6, 2011 at 5:59 AM, Nikolay Georgiev < nikolay.h.georgiev(a)googlemail.com> wrote: > Hi Michel, > > OSE Europe is growing! A Simplification of the Basics of TFE, or Transfinancial Economics........
by robert searle 10 Nov '11

10 Nov '11

Essentially, TFE claims that new monitored non-repayable money could be created electronically by special transparent, and credible banks to fund in full, or in part environmental, and socio-economic projects of high ethical value. This would help to SPEED things up unlike loans though interest free ones can also be created electronically when necessary. The aim of all this is also to give powerful financial incentives to business that could profit with genuine projects, and more importantly help "save the planet", and its people. What has been suggested above is known as primary stage TFE, and the amount of new money created is more limited unlike advanced stage TFE.To avoid any serious inflation the planning of any large, or small project must take into account the productive capacity of suppliers. Thus, products, and/or services would be planned beforehand so that there is no unexpected demand which might lead to inflationary pressures, and price rises. With advanced stage TFE it would be possible to gain a near complete knowledge of the entire economy. The data would come 24/7 via the ID codes, and barcodes of products, and services at the point of sale, or later transactions with banks. Such data would be vital to bring about wholesale sea change towards an environmentally sustainable, and socially ethical economy, as more, and more new electronically monitored non-repayable money could be created WITH CONFIDENCE to avoid any serious inflation. As we would have a far more accurate understanding of the real economy as never before in human history inflation risks could be accurately assessed. This is revolutionary. Taxation could notably be phased out altogether. Moreover, with advanced stage TFE full funding of charitable NGOs would also become possible ultimately. However, as with primary TFE productive capacity is still taken into account. If at all necessary there would be direct electronic controls to ensure inflation, and currency devaluation can never get out of hand. This can be instantaneous process unlike the present day of usuage of taxation, and interest rates. It is also important to point that we are not discussing a Soviet style communist economy, because the Free Market Price is maintained, and Capitalism in an increasingly more ethical form would still continue until there is "full" automation when money, and wage slavery would no longer exist. Hopefully, a more advanced technological, and more moral human civilization will largely emerge based on democracy, universal human rights, and greater fairness. In other words, global justice.

autonomous initiative-Occupy the Fiscal Debate
by ideasinc＠ee.net 10 Nov '11

10 Nov '11

This is a link to a draft of a proposal I will be presenting soon to the Columbus meeting of the Ohio Green Party. This initiative will be based upon networking among alternative economics, monetary policies, and fiscal policies. We need to demonstrate that another economy is possible. Alanna H. (land value taxation/Georgist Economics) has expressed interest as well as two other advocates covering free trade and the commons. Here is the link to the draft proposal. The side point is that networking to those who can contribute to this project is part of the process. Resource people need to have some time invested in practical economic alternatives. This is the link to the proposal. as we go, Tadit http://www.economics.arawakcity.org/node/963

If you agree and would like to endorse please localise/translate the text, pass it to your local and national press, and spread the text virally via your individual and collective online and offline networks! Do not forget the process begins tomorrow 11:11 am GMT globally. In solidarity! * * *Anonymous Strike Notice * *Global WikiStrike 11.11.11* *Decommodify the Commons, Build a P2P Economy, Reclaim Life, Peace and Justice on Earth * On November 11th 2011 at 11:11 AM GMT We declare that we have no division among us, the people united. We are united as humanity and nature, one whole planet. We are ONE and we are here for ALL, including the 1%! We declare that we need to take over the world agenda, to shape our future together, in a bottom-up, horizontal and egalitarian way! Let's make real democracy a reality and put an end to the 'ancient regime' of the elite. We call Occupy Together/Democracy Real Ya!/Take The Square/15O/15M Movements, Anonymous, LulzSec, WikiLeaks, OpenLeaks, Yes Man, Avaaz, The Zeitgeist Movement, Zapatistas, Water Warriors, Slum Dwellers, Street Traders, NetWorkers, Free Culture and information activists, environmentalists, unionists, feminists, anti-war activists, political parties, and all other like-minded groups and individuals from every country, to support this cause by engaging in law making processes within their nearest occupy assemblies around the world and linking your actions in the WikiStrike framework! The current political alteration process can, eventually, replace current production, ownership and distribution relationships across the globe with fundamentally egalitarian ways of distributed, peer to peer economies through which we could protect the planet, realise justice and maintain peace. In such P2P economies we could reclaim the Commons from the grip of greed. We could contribute to work needed to be done for collective good, not more than 4 hours a day. This way we could physically reproduce ourselves and maintain life for others. We could use the rest of the time to flourish and for self realisation. Today we have the material conditions to realise such transition. In order to move further, we need time. We need to get back the trillions of dollars the 1% has stolen from the people and realise 4 hour work days and basic income for all. It is possible and it is a more realistic response to the crisis the elite caused, we need this to be able to build and lead the transition towards P2P alternatives. Today, we launch a world wide and continuous WikiStrike involving traditional industrial action as well as new generation media actions, leaks, hackatons, occupations, meditations, art strikes and many other creative and peaceful forms of self-expression to make this happen. Understanding the world is not enough, we need to change it and we must to do it now! *Join the world wide strike and global demo on 11.11.11!* *Reclaim life! * *4 Hour-Work-Day and Global Basic Income now and for all!* *People United * *United as One, Divided by Zero* *ALL 4 ONE ONE 4 ALL! * *What is WikiStrike! * WikiStrike is an open ended and open to all form of strike different from traditional methods used mainly by unionised workers and aimed at improving working conditions and living standards by changing the behaviour of the employer or political ruler. In addition to using the power we have in terms of the production process, with WikiStrikes we utilize the power coming from hyper-connectivity and the collective hyper intelligence/creativity we posses today in order to protect life, justice and peace -be it at local, national or international level. All forces of social change can join in the global WikiStrike process and work in a collaborative way to achieve these objectives. Occupy Oakland has proven that the WikiStrike is not only an idea, it is both possible and effective today. *Global WikiStrike 11.11.11 at 11:11 am * In November 2011, we are witnessing the rise of general strikes globally against the rule of the elite. An elite that has long time ignored the needs of the planet, the poor, the weakest who had to be protected the most. Rulers crack down and oppress people in order to save their unjust system. The globalisation of a totalitarian form of capitalism has started to attack ordinary people all over the world. The elite try to destroy all of the existing semi-democratic rights some of us had been enjoying. November 2011 is the month we link all uprisings and dissent around the world in an anonymous framework of global general strike. This is open to all, all forces can participate and show solidarity in order to defend the rest, all of us. Creative minds across the world can align against the rule of the 1% and go on the offensive in this way. Therefore at 11:11am GMT on 11.11.2011 we launch a Global and United WikiStrike against the ruling classes and their greed-centric corporations in order to enforce people’s sovereign laws and make real democracy, equality and freedom a reality. We will build truly democratic social structures free from the domination of any class, elite or war lord, free from artificial borders and wage slavery. A world where production, distribution and ownership are organised through distributed egalitarian P2P cooperative networks and based on the commons we share. We want a globally accepted 4 Hour Work Day without wage loss and Global Basic Income for those who do not work for money, right now! We will demand this with art, meditation, prayers, industrial action, occupation, hacking, leaks and all other means of creative, peaceful self-expression. GAs, individuals, groups, organisations, movements and networks joining the WikiStrike decide their target, objective and methods autonomously. Possible targets are top TNCs, transnational financial institutions, totalitarian governments, government bodies, state agencies, officials... Mass media, employers, firms, etc., who are not respectful to the planet, people, justice, equity and real democracy! *We will show the world that people are united hand in hand!* -- P2P Foundation: http://p2pfoundation.net - http://blog.p2pfoundation.net Connect: http://p2pfoundation.ning.com; Discuss: http://lists.ourproject.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/p2p-foundation Updates: http://del.icio.us/mbauwens; http://friendfeed.com/mbauwens; http://twitter.com/mbauwens; http://www.facebook.com/mbauwens

TFE, and MMT....A Correction..
by robert searle 10 Nov '11

10 Nov '11

Paragraph 3 line 2 should read .".... but conveniently overlooking the "mini", and major booms, and busts of the economy (not Banks!). Morever, it would be argued that it would give them too much power. In TFE this problem is ..... TFE, or Transfinancial Economics has similiarities to Modern Monetary Theory. Both believe that if enough new non-repayable debt-free money can be created to deal with social, economic, and political problems it would not lead to serious inflation, or worse. In other words, it is a non-redistributive model of a future economy like Social Credit. Redistributive models notably include Land Value Taxation, Binary Economics, and the Tobin Tax, or Financial Transaction Tax. Points To Make MMT. It believes that the government should issue non-repayable debt-free money rather than rely on taxation which is essentially used to reduce excess money (if absolutely necessary ) rather than fund anything . TFE. It recognizes that it is unlikely that governments would be allowed to create their own money quoting instances of hyperinflation, but conveniently overlooking the "mini", and major booms, and busts of the economy. Morever, it would be argued that it would give them too much power. In TFE this problem is addressed by the creation of special Facilitation Banks which can be privately owned BUT would a legally transparent, and credible (unlike their mainstream "counterparts" which would still exist for the time being) to the highest possible degree. Such an arrangement would be more acceptable at the present time. However, FBs could also be part owned by the public interest. MMT. A very big problem with this economic model is ofcourse the bond market which would obviously resist any govenment to create its own money in full overtime. TFE. It takes a very pragmatic stance to the financial world in order that reform can be undertaken as quickly as possible. Thus, the bond market can remain in place for a longwhile. If governments were allowed to gradually introduce a phasing in of new money to replace taxation investors could receive compensation, or indeed, other investment vehicles which would be more lucrative than bonds. MMT. Probably, the greatest weakness of MMT, and indeed, Social Credit is that if you are going to create a tax free world you need in the end to have a NEAR PERFECT UNDERSTANDING OF THE REAL ECONOMY. This would fully ensure, and give FULL CONFIDENCE that a tax free world could be successfully implemented in the real economy, otherwise there would always be doubts in many minds. Taxation as understood by MMT is an INDIRECT method of trying to achieve this, but it would still be regarded as a HUGE risk. TFE. It believes that there are two basic stages. Primary Stage TFE is simply the introduction of Facilitation Banks which are concerned with the speeding up of vital environmental, and socio-economic projects of a mainly commercial nature. They would be allowed to create a "limited" amounts of new non-repayable money electronically to fund such ventures in full, or in part. Advanced Stage TFE is the introduction of Electronic Transaction Monitoring, or ETM. This would give us a NEAR PERFECT UNDERSTANDING OF THE REAL ECONOMY AND MAKE THE IDEA OF A TAX-FREE ECONOMY A HIGHLY CREDIBLE PROPOSITION UNLIKE THE CLAIMS OF MMT, AND SOCIAL CREDIT. http://www.p2pfoundation.net/Transfinancial_Economics
