Dear Teilo, This is an excellent idea but it would need an editor (probably two), to keep the flow going and make the final editing decisions, we now have a cooperative within the p2p foundation which aims to produce publications, perhaps we can discuss here with the community first, my feeling is, we should go for it, but the project will need a 'driver' to push it forward, Michel On Sat, Mar 12, 2011 at 1:51 PM, Teilo T. Dear friends, Shareable Magazine is looking for a writer who can do a feature story on how ordinary life in Egypt is changing during revolution, with a particular focus on how people may be organizing daily life along p2p lines. Would be great to get someone close to events and arabic speaking, but open to other ideas as well. Who would you recommend? Thanks for any help, yours, Neal -- Neal Gorenflo | Publisher, http://Shareable.net <http://shareable.net/> | 415.867.0429

Fwd: Toppling teetering colleagues into Systems Thinking
by Michel Bauwens 11 Mar '11

---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Michelle Smith <admin(a)triarchypress.com> Date: Thu, Mar 10, 2011 at 10:34 PM Subject: Toppling teetering colleagues into Systems Thinking To: michelsub2004(a)gmail.com Dear Michel, Thanks to Google Analytics we know that a recent visitor from Canada came to our website after searching for *"shystem thinflkling"*. Sadly, Google doesn't tell us what to do with this data. (More ads aimed at people who type whilst eating lunch?) But one trend* *is clear: we see more and more searches for Systems Thinking -- and how to use and apply it in organisations. Of course, there are no rules for Systems Thinking and no one right way of doing it. **<http://www.triarchypress.com/pages/Systems_Thinking_for_Curious_Managers.htm>Because it has no clear rules, it's hard to introduce Systems Thinking into an organisation. When Russ Ackoff taught it, he would distill complex ideas into clear wisdoms that simply toppled his listeners from confusion into understanding. *Systems Thinking for Curious Managers* lists all 123 of Ackoff's *Management f-Laws* (which take the generally accepted, linear-thinking rules of business and turn them on their head). And it starts with my colleague Andrew Carey's stimulating introduction to the principles that underpin Systems Thinking. Bret Simmons said, "*This book is a gem both for those familiar with and those new to systems thinking. It is well worth the two hours it will take you to read it." *(See more reviews to the right...) They're designed to get any work team or group of managers to look afresh at their work practices, styles, hierarchies, performance measures and more. The *Systemic Leadership Toolkit* gives you a Systems Thinking framework for assessing the way your organisation views and manages issues like: - *Power*: who has it and why? How do they use it and how well? - *Gaps*: what are the gaps between what managers say and do? Where is training and development simply wasted? - *The ‘system’*: how do culture, values, authority, empowerment and motivation contribute when things go wrong? - *Knowledge*: how well is it shared and managed in practice? - *Intangibles*: like innovation, openness and adaptability - *Decline*: how do you manage products, services, skills, processes and markets as they mature and begin to fall away? - *The shadow* – how well are the non-rational aspects of working life managed (ambition, jealousy, rivalries, bullying, trust)? Well worth the price and the time to read this slim volume.*"* === "...capable of being opened at any page and giving something to the reader. Leaders will recognise f-Laws as a lever to change their organisation... Systems thinking often requires fundamental organisational cultural change. This book may be the start of such a journey for many. === "...an exceptional overview of the basics of general systems as they relate to business and organizations... hit[s] all the basics with succinct treatments of systems principles." *Save 20% using code TP20*<http://www.triarchypress.com/pages/Systems_Thinking_for_Curious_Managers.htm> ========== <http://www.triarchypress.com/pages/Systemic_Leadership_Toolkit.htm> With scoreable questionnaires, checklists, case studies and briefings on each topic, this is a senior manager’s dream. 4 arguments against internet levy's

http://falkvinge.net/2011/03/09/an-internet-levy-is-a-terrible-idea/? I was not impressed in barcelona with the critiques against the flatrate, but I think this is different, and a well-argued critique, I wonder if Volcker or Philippe might have the time to engage with this, I'd love to publish an assessment on the p2p foundation blog, what can be rescued around the flatrate proposal, keeping this challenge in mind? Emergency Financial Managers Bill Passes Michigan House and Senate
by Samuel Rose 11 Mar '11

11 Mar '11

http://michiganmessenger.com/47203/emergency-managers-bill-sweeps-toward-fi… "An amendment to require Emergency Managers to hold monthly public meetings to let people know how they are governing was rejected by Senate Republicans, along with proposals to cap Emergency Manager compensation and require that those appointed to run school districts have some background in education." No public oversight, no education qualifications needed, no cap on compensation. Although the attention has been on Wisconsin, this action here in Michigan is even more draconian, unconstitutional, and the most undemocratic law ever proposed and passed in Michigan. As bad as this is, we are seeing it here as an opportunity to build a permanent platform for p2p political advocacy here in Michigan and in Wisconsin if people are interested there. Our proposed plugin architecture for diaspora: Keep it distributed and outside of the application
by Samuel Rose 10 Mar '11

10 Mar '11

http://bugs.joindiaspora.com/issues/311 Here's what I wrote: "We're experimenting with "plugin" architecture ideas for diaspora. We have a simple idea that is based off of the http://flows.panarchy.com draft RFC Our idea is to basically keep the "plugins" completely outside of the diaspora application. We think it could be worth thinking about making plugins/extensions that work with diaspora across a plurality of application layer protocols. "Plugins" could be coded in any programming language, provided that they conform to the diaspora API in terms of how they deal with data objects, and the plugins would run as a webservice with a variety of access/availability rules. The advantages here are that the problem of "my diaspora pod does not support that plugin" is effectively eliminated. As new types of content are available for sharing, if special functionality is required for making the new type of content viewable or usable in diaspora, it can live as one or more services available on servers to accomplish the needed processing. Diaspora instances could be set to use specific "plugin" services/sources, or could look for next nearest service available from a distributed registry for instance. I thought that now is a crucial time to think about a scalable way to allow people to develop extensions for diaspora in parallel. Keeping them outside of diaspora codebase keeps the code clean and lean and easier to refine without the burden of keeping extensions and plugins up to date because they are tightly integrated into the application. The extensions can instead be joined via external-facing API that supports multiple protocols. What do you all think?" -- -- Sam Rose Future Forward Institute and Forward Foundation Tel:+1(517) 639-1552 Cel: +1-(517)-974-6451 skype: samuelrose email: samuel.rose(a)gmail.com http://forwardfound.org http://futureforwardinstitute.org http://hollymeadcapital.com http://p2pfoundation.net http://socialmediaclassroom.com "The universe is not required to be in perfect harmony with human ambition." - Carl Sagan

accountability in a delegation system ? + legally legitimizing Panocratic Panarchy ?
by Dante-Gabryell Monson 10 Mar '11

10 Mar '11

In what I sometimes call "Corporatist Republics" , also sometimes called "Democracies", I personally question accountability, in such system of power delegation, when the politicians to whom such decision power is delegated to may have more of an interest to take decisions in the interest of multinational companies, as to possibly join their well paid board of directors after their political term, then in the interest of their citizens, or even their electorate, which is supposed to guarantee their re-election. Or when even their re-election depends on supporting multinational company interests, as to get the money to sponsor their re-election media campaigns. What sense does it still make to vote as to legitimize some form of a Corporatist Republic system, where not even the Tripartism Neo-Corporatist flavour of it can be counted on to enable democratic dialogue, and not even mass demonstrations seem to enable democratic dialogue ? *What other options are left ?* * * *Can we set up our own legal government framework , in accordance with constitution ?* *Can we set up our own complementary system to legitimize an alternative form of governance "instead" of a seemingly current unequal Corporatist Republic system ?* * * *What does it require to legitimize , legally speaking, a Panocratic Panarchy ?* * * *and if such alternative can be legally set up,* *how would it function, and what are the laws that would be based on contract based on the government we choose to legitimize,* *and what laws would be bounded by a common constitution to all forms of government corporations ?* * * *-------------* * * *http://p2pfoundation.net/Panocracy* * * A principle underlying systems of organisation that asserts that everyone has the right to make and act on decisions about things that affect them and that no one else has the right to take that away from them. and *http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Panarchy* *“an inclusive, universal system of governance in which all may participate meaningfully."* more links : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Republic *http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Corporatism* * * *" One of the most prominent forms of corporatism is economic tripartism<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tripartism> involving negotiations between business, labour, and state interest groups to set economic policy.
