The problem is not with the formation of new territory, but rather when it is not followed by deterritorialization. Blockchain must not be fixated in one order, but must continue its “a-parallel evolution” and constant modification. As such, the ICON Republic is structurally composed of lines of articulation segmentarity, strata and territories; but on a movement side that brings changes to these, it was designed to involve lines of flight, movement deterritorialization and destratification. Therefore, the design of the ICON Republic, as stated in the preceding White Paper, lies on Rhizomatic Philosophy." ( https://m.icon.foundation/resources/file/ICON_Yellowpaper_ICONstitution_and… ?) Discussion[edit <https://wiki.p2pfoundation.net/index.php?title=ICON_Republic_of_Blockchains…> ] "Unlike the conventional network environment, where a single trusted entity processes all tasks, the public blockchain network environment needs a way for all participants to agree with mutual understanding given the large number of unspecified participants autonomously conducting their tasks. This situation is not unlike our traditional society composed of people. People establish a singular law and order under which everyone can build a trustworthy society through mutual understanding. Similarly, a decentralized peer-to-peer network can operate with the highest degree of reliability given the ability to conform to the consensus of its participants, thereby allowing participants of free-will to self-govern their network within a given economic structure. For this reason, the ICON Governance is designed to ensure that numerous heterogeneous communities can reliably connect to each other by a commitment to each community. To this end, the ICON Network allows each heterogeneous community to elect its own representative, allowing representatives to transact within a single network consensus rule on behalf of each community member. Thanks to “the principles of complement and balance” , the ICON Network's rules are fairly operated by representatives who are situated outside each of the heterogeneous communities. This framework enables participants to reach consensus on issues both inside and outside the ICON Network that are difficult to determine through code. *ICON Governance measures the contribution of all ICONists involved in the operation of the ICON Network in accordance with a specified evaluation system and distributes reasonable compensation accordingly.* Through this system, each representative can objectively evaluate one’s contribution to the ICON Network, whether through delegation from other ICONists or one’s own contribution. In the ICON Governance, *an ICONist who has made a sufficient contribution to the network is considered credible and is qualified to be the subject of major decisions in the network*. This approach makes it possible to prove a variety of contributions to the ICON Network, as opposed to merely proving stake, as in the existing "Delegated Proof of Stake" approach." Excerpts[edit <https://wiki.p2pfoundation.net/index.php?title=ICON_Republic_of_Blockchains…> ]6 Principles of Rhizomatic Philosophy[edit <https://wiki.p2pfoundation.net/index.php?title=ICON_Republic_of_Blockchains…> ] - *1 and 2. Principles of Connection and Heterogeneity* "Any point of a rhizome can be connected to any other and must be. This is very different from the tree or root, which plots a point and fixes an order. - *3. Principle of Multiplicity* It is only when the multiple is effectively treated as a substantive, “multiplicity”, that it ceases to have any relation to the One as subject or object, natural or spiritual reality, image and world. - *4. Principle of Asignifying Rupture* Against the oversignifying breaks separating structures or cutting across a single structure. A rhizome may be broken, shattered at a given spot, but it will start up again on one of its old lines, or on new lines. - *5 and 6. Principles of Cartography and Decalcomania* A rhizome is not amenable to any structural or generative model. It is a stranger to any idea of genetic axis or deep structure…The rhizome is altogether different, a map and not a tracing… It constructs the unconscious. It fosters connections between fields, the removal of blockages on bodies without organs, the maximum opening of bodies without organs onto a plane of consistency. It is itself a part of the rhizome." The ICONstitution[edit <https://wiki.p2pfoundation.net/index.php?title=ICON_Republic_of_Blockchains…> ]Article 1 (The Principles of the Constitution)[edit <https://wiki.p2pfoundation.net/index.php?title=ICON_Republic_of_Blockchains…> ] 1. "The ICON Network pursues decentralization, which is the fundamental philosophy of the blockchain paradigm. 2. Each Community has its own autonomy and can freely interconnect with the ICON Network. 3. The ICON Network fairly recognizes the contribution of all participants. Article 2 (Rights of the ICONist)[edit <https://wiki.p2pfoundation.net/index.php?title=ICON_Republic_of_Blockchains…> ] 1. Each participant who uses the ICON Network shall be called an "ICONist". 2. Each ICONist has the following basic rights: a. Right to Governance: An ICONist has the right to voluntarily participate in the decision making of the ICON Network through the delegation of authority, of which is based on one’s respective contribution to the ICON Network, or being oneself a delegate. b. Right to Compensation: All ICONists shall be fairly compensated for their respective contribution to the ICON Network. c. Right to Access: Each ICONist has the right to freely use the ICON Network. Article 3 (Duties of the ICONist)[edit <https://wiki.p2pfoundation.net/index.php?title=ICON_Republic_of_Blockchains…> ] 1. All ICONists shall strive to ensure that the ICON Network runs properly. 2. All ICONists shall oppose any transgression against the ICON Network." -- P2P Foundation: http://p2pfoundation.net - http://blog.p2pfoundation.net Connect: http://p2pfoundation.ning.com; Discuss: http://lists.ourproject.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/p2p-foundation Updates: http://del.icio.us/mbauwens; http://friendfeed.com/mbauwens; http://twitter.com/mbauwens; http://www.facebook.com/mbauwens

Then he would have tied the anchor to the corpse, he would have knocked it overboard, and he would have thrown the gun behind his body. The stories of Leonid Voloch would be lost forever at the bottom of the gulf. His journey on the socialist planet would have died with him. A philosophical story. A novel of science and fantasy that no one would ever read “. The book Moscow, 1927. Let your stories mingle with reality to the point where you come to life: is not this the secret dream of every narrator? This is what happens to Aleksandr Bogdanov, writer of science fiction, but also revolutionary, scientist and philosopher. While preparations are under way to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the October Revolution and the showdown between Stalin and his opponents is approaching, the author of the famous Red Star receives a visit from a character who seems to have come straight out of the pages of his novel. It is an opportunity to retrace the steps of a life lived on the edge of the abyss, between insurrections, exile and wars, chasing the ghost of an old lost companion along the way. A search that will deeply shake the convictions of a lifetime. “They head to the exit, passing between the models on display. The different rockets seem to reveal the provenance of their designers. That of Max Valier, South Tyrolean, is a spindle of metal and German will, with two stubby wings, similar to arms, each ending in a pointed missile. The spaceship of Federov is a tin whale, full of mysterious diverticula and extroflexed trumpets, which one imagines to navigate melancholy and Russian to other galaxies. Goddard’s lunar torpedo is a giant, no-frills, pragmatic, and Yankee bullet. The Esnault-Pelterie aircraft are butterflies of French elegance, while the four-stage rocket engine with a double reaction engine, of the Italian Gussalli, is baroque from the name ». _______________________________________________ Networked-labour_igopnet mailing list Networked-labour_igopnet(a)lists.igopnet.cc http://grups.pangea.org/mailman/listinfo/networked-labour_igopnet -- P2P Foundation: http://p2pfoundation.net - http://blog.p2pfoundation.net Connect: http://p2pfoundation.ning.com; Discuss: http://lists.ourproject.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/p2p-foundation Updates: http://del.icio.us/mbauwens; http://friendfeed.com/mbauwens; http://twitter.com/mbauwens; http://www.facebook.com/mbauwens

exceptionally well documented article on cybernetic governance

The aim of this move of ‘techplomacy’ was, as Klynge explained, not simply to distribute greetings notes by the Danish queen. Rather, the intention was to ‘update diplomacy’ based on the recognition that a few tech companies have obviously become much ‘more influential than some nation states’. Klynge framed the new political course in the manner of a well-known old but still utterly contemporary mantra: ‘There is no alternative’. In a similar vein, Denmark’s Foreign Minister Anders Samuelson highlighted the importance of the step as follows: ‘Just as we engage in a diplomatic dialogue with countries, we also need to establish and prioritize comprehensive relations with tech actors, such as Google, Facebook, Apple, and so on. (…) The idea is, we see a lot of companies and new technologies that will in many ways involve and be part of everyday life of citizens in Denmark.' ( http://networkcultures.org/longform/2018/10/18/res-publica-ex-machina-on-ne… ) Description[edit <https://wiki.p2pfoundation.net/index.php?title=Neocybernetic_Governance_and…> ] "The idea to implement tech on new political test grounds is ... mirrored by recent digital initiatives which focus more explicitly on the nation-state. The most poignant concepts in this realm include ideas such as ‘algorithmic regulation’, ‘government as a platform’ (Tim O’Reilly), ‘direct technocracy’ viz. ‘info-states’ (Parag Khanna), ‘smart states’ (Beth Noveck), or ‘social physics’ (Alex Pentland), to name a few. It is vital to explore some of these concepts in greater detail and on a more theoretical and philosophical level. What form of politics is implicitly being promoted in this context? As we argue, this question is best examined against the background of an understanding of these concepts as very idiosyncratic reformulations of cybernetic approaches to the political, which date back to the 1960s. We explore how the implicit visions and concepts rearticulate early concepts of cybernetic politics in their insistence on the vitality of feedback structures, in allegedly blending hierarchy with tenets of decentralization, in shifting the focus from the individual to the interrelations between humans, including the social fabric encompassing them and, most importantly, in how far this might raise problems. Subsequently, this rather theoretical perspective will allow us to examine the extent to which such neo-cybernetic concepts promote a rather reduced vision of the political, or politics as such. As we argue, current approaches to ‘smart’ states or cities and their corresponding models of governance mark no entire automation of politics but at least in certain respects, a pragmatic actualization of cybernetic visions of the state against the background of surveillance capitalism. As such, theoretical dispositifs that have emerged from early ideas of cybernetic politics are still marking certain effects." Fwd: Free speech on the ropes
by Michel Bauwens 24 Oct '18

---------- Forwarded message --------- From: Thomas Greco <thg(a)mindspring.com> Date: Wed, Oct 24, 2018 at 9:04 PM Subject: Free speech on the ropes To: Michel <michel(a)p2pfoundation.net> ------------------------------ Is this email not displaying correctly? View it in your browser <https://mailchi.mp/33507a9d2eba/free-speech-on-the-ropes?e=686d597d8c>. *If liberty means anything at all, it means the right to tell people what they do not want to hear.* —George Orwell *What the Arab world needs most is free expression.* * —*Jamal Khashoggi In his famous dystopian novel, *1984*, George Orwell describes a world in which people’s actions and words are closely monitored in order to detect and punish *thoughtcrime <https://beyondmoney.us7.list-manage.com/track/click?u=3cbee2e1cfc237bcae4ed…>*. It is a world in which the ruling power structure has the means to preempt the expression of any idea or story that might challenge the official narrative of events and reality. Though a little late by Orwell’s reckoning, that world has all but arrived. The development of the internet and the worldwide web brought, for a time, tremendous power to ordinary people to communicate and inform one another directly, bypassing the established news filters and centralized control of information. But in recent years, new corporate megaliths have emerged that have the power to shift control back in favor of “Big Brother.” We have become so dependent upon private corporate media platforms, like Facebook, Twitter, Google and YouTube, that they are able to manipulate our thoughts and behavior. To be banned from those channels means to effectively be banished from participation in political discourse. Corporate power on such a scale inevitably ends up being complicit with political oligarchies in controlling public perceptions and defining “reality.” The hyped-up battle against “fake news” is really a battle against free speech. *Facebook teams up with the “Thought Police” to purge dissenting voices* Facebook’s purging of hundreds of pages and accounts in recent days has been widely reported <https://beyondmoney.us7.list-manage.com/track/click?u=3cbee2e1cfc237bcae4ed…>. The purges have been done based on allegations of “spam,” and “inauthentic behavior,” or of providing “Russian propaganda.” But there’s much more to it than that. An article in the online journal, Global Research <https://beyondmoney.us7.list-manage.com/track/click?u=3cbee2e1cfc237bcae4ed…>, describes the arrangement that Facebook made five months ago with the Atlantic Council to, “prevent [their] service from being abused during elections. <https://beyondmoney.us7.list-manage.com/track/click?u=3cbee2e1cfc237bcae4ed…>” And who is the Atlantic Council? According to the article, the Atlantic Council “is a think tank that is essentially funded by NATO, weapons manufacturers, Middle-Eastern oil-state monarchies, billionaires and different branches of the US military. In short, it has been described as being nothing less than NATO’s unofficial propaganda wing <https://beyondmoney.us7.list-manage.com/track/click?u=3cbee2e1cfc237bcae4ed…>. The Atlantic Council doesn’t shy away from its political intents across the world, which can be seen solely by looking at who sits on its directors board – the crème de la crème when it comes to US neocons & war criminals <https://beyondmoney.us7.list-manage.com/track/click?u=3cbee2e1cfc237bcae4ed…>: Henry Kissinger, Condoleezza Rice, Frank Carlucci, James A. Baker, R. George P. Shultz, James Woolsey, Leon Panetta, Colin Powell, Robert Gates, and many more.” The article goes on to say that, “Many of the pages and accounts taken down have been political (often leftist), anti-war, independent journalists and media outlets that are known to go against the grain of mainstream media outlets.” You can read the complete article here <https://beyondmoney.us7.list-manage.com/track/click?u=3cbee2e1cfc237bcae4ed…> . So, what can we do? *Let’s all dump Facebook, as well as Twitter, YouTube and all the other massive, proprietary, data mining and propaganda platforms.* I know that is not so easy to do, but alternatives do exist, and more of them are emerging every day. Here is a list of 6 Alternatives to Facebook <https://beyondmoney.us7.list-manage.com/track/click?u=3cbee2e1cfc237bcae4ed…>. This article <https://beyondmoney.us7.list-manage.com/track/click?u=3cbee2e1cfc237bcae4ed…> provides a list of 11 Facebook alternatives, and Fox News, surprisingly, provides a list of, Secure alternatives to Facebook, Instagram and Twitter <https://beyondmoney.us7.list-manage.com/track/click?u=3cbee2e1cfc237bcae4ed…>. My search engine, DuckDuckGo, turns up several more. One Facebook alternative that has gotten significant funding support of late is MeWe. A recent article <https://beyondmoney.us7.list-manage.com/track/click?u=3cbee2e1cfc237bcae4ed…> reports that MeWe has thus far managed to raise $10 million to support its development. The article quotes MeWe <https://beyondmoney.us7.list-manage.com/track/click?u=3cbee2e1cfc237bcae4ed…> founder and CEO, Mark Weinstein <https://beyondmoney.us7.list-manage.com/track/click?u=3cbee2e1cfc237bcae4ed…>: "It is clear that the world wants a better social network that treats its member as customers to serve, not data to sell. We've built a social networking experience that has a remarkable suite of features people love and none of the BS. MeWe has no ads, no spyware, no content manipulation, no facial recognition, and no Russians (or anyone) paying to show you fake news." Well, that sounds promising, but time will tell how real it is. ___________________________________ *Jamal Khashoggi’s murder and the U.S./Saudi connection* The sensational case of the murder and dismemberment of Washington Post journalist, Jamal Khashoggi, inside the Saudi Consulate in Istanbul, underlines just how desperate the power elite is to control the narrative and manipulate our perceptions and beliefs. It would be a mistake to view this horrendous atrocity in isolation from the wider geopolitical propaganda campaign, much of it emanating from the U.S. government and their NATO and middle-eastern allies. Two weeks after Khashoggi’s disappearance, The Washington Post published his last editorial <https://beyondmoney.us7.list-manage.com/track/click?u=3cbee2e1cfc237bcae4ed…>, in which Khashoggi wrote: “Arab governments have been given free rein to continue silencing the media at an increasing rate. There was a time when journalists believed the Internet would liberate information from the censorship and control associated with print media. But these governments, whose very existence relies on the control of information, have aggressively blocked the Internet. They have also arrested local reporters and pressured advertisers to harm the revenue of specific publications.” The reaction of Donald Trump to this affair has been what we would expect. While paying lip service to justice and accountability, he immediately tried to provide cover for the Saudi regime by suggesting that the murder may have been the work of “rogue killers.” <https://beyondmoney.us7.list-manage.com/track/click?u=3cbee2e1cfc237bcae4ed…> He also made it clear that he would not halt weapon sales to the Saudi government, a clear signal that money trumps “American values,” and belies the myth of the United States as champion of democracy and human rights. But the cozy relationship between Saudi Arabia and the United States goes back way before Trump. Recall that, according to the official report on the 9/11 terror attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, 15 of the 19 terrorists were from Saudi Arabia. Fwd: Patterning Instinct news

---------- Forwarded message --------- From: Jeremy Lent <jeremy(a)jeremylent.com> Date: Fri, Oct 19, 2018 at 9:20 PM Subject: Patterning Instinct news To: Michel <michelsub2004(a)gmail.com> Recent article and upcoming events View this email in your browser <https://mailchi.mp/6dacd0693a3b/patterning-instinct-news-1853961?e=706ecc72…> <https://jeremylent.us13.list-manage.com/track/click?u=ca3f163a7a35137b9c600…> What Would an Ecological Civilization Look Like? Dear Michel, Last week, the UN's climate change task force, the IPCC, put the world on notice that we have just 12 years to turn around our trajectory to global disaster. Without drastic changes, we're well on the way to full-blown climate breakdown, they warn, with unprecedented drought, flooding, and famine. We need, they declare, "rapid, far-reaching and unprecedented changes in all aspects of society.” But what exactly does that mean? Following the IPCC's report, I published an article describing some of the elements of what this might entail, entitled "*We Need an Ecological Civilization Before It's Too Late. <https://jeremylent.us13.list-manage.com/track/click?u=ca3f163a7a35137b9c600…>*" Please read it and share your thoughts with me—and others you think might be interested. If you've read *The Patterning Instinct*, you'll know that in the final chapter I write about the need for a Great Transformation of society, encompassing a transformation of virtually every aspect of human experience: our values, our goals, and our collective behavior. I've come to believe that "Ecological Civilization" may be the best name for what might emerge from this transition: a civilization based on the sustainable health of interconnected living systems. I'll be presenting on the topic of Ecological Civilization with my friend and colleague, David Korten, at the *Parliament of World Religions* <https://jeremylent.us13.list-manage.com/track/click?u=ca3f163a7a35137b9c600…> in Toronto from November 1–7. David has organized four panels on this theme, and we'll be joined in this discussion by luminaries John Cobb and Matthew Fox. In another panel, John and I will be in conversation with Mary Evelyn Tucker on the topic of "*A Grounded Understanding of Harmony for Earth Justice*." I hope to see some of you there! If you're in the San Francisco Bay Area, I invite you to join me at Stanford University's *Contemplation By Design Summit* on *Tuesday, October 30 at 7 p.m*. I'll be giving a talk on *"Cultural Mindfulness: Recognizing How Culture Shapes Our Patterns of Thought"*—and you can register here for free <https://jeremylent.us13.list-manage.com/track/click?u=ca3f163a7a35137b9c600…> . Also, you might enjoy listening to a couple of recent interviews I gave related to this urgent topic: one with Derrick Jensen's Resistance Radio <https://jeremylent.us13.list-manage.com/track/click?u=ca3f163a7a35137b9c600…>, and the other with Joe Brewer from the Center on Applied Cultural Evolution <https://jeremylent.us13.list-manage.com/track/click?u=ca3f163a7a35137b9c600…> . The future is still up for grabs—I urge you to do your part to help move us toward a path of sustainable flourishing, before it's too late! Fwd: [bgcon] "Disruption des Journalismus"

---------- Forwarded message --------- From: Krystian Woznicki <kw(a)berlinergazette.de> Date: Tue, Oct 16, 2018 at 11:07 AM Subject: [bgcon] "Disruption des Journalismus" To: <digi-yards(a)berlinergazette.de> Hi, please note Berliner Gazette's editor-in-chief Magdalena Taube's new book "Disruption des Journalismus" which deals with the digital revolution in the field of media through the lens of "digital natives". It has been just published by Institute of Network Cultures and is available online, as print on demand and in selected bookshops. More info about this German language book please find below. Please spread the word by re-tweeting this: https://twitter.com/INCAmsterdam/status/1016605646547030021 Kind regards, Krystian --- *Disruption des Journalismus* *Medienwandel und Digital Natives* *Magdalena Taube* *About* Today, public interest in journalism seems greater than ever. Buzzwords such as ‘fake news’ or ‘click bait’ indicate that we are dealing with a polarising political issue. Anyone who dares to investigate journalism in this intensified situation also wants to better understand the world in which we are living. After all, journalists play a decisive role in this scenario because they have a strong influence on how we perceive the world. How has their role changed since the advent of the internet? What does it mean that there is both a new generation of readers and a new generation of journalists called digital natives who were born in the 1980s and raised on the internet in the 1990s? Searching for answers, the book paints a multi-layered portrait of the Internet generation. It above all shows one thing: though the far-reaching transformation of media set in motion by digitalization often appears like an uncontrollable force of nature, we can actively shape this process even in our everyday journalistic work. *Author* Magdalena Taube is editor-in-chief of the internet newspaper Berliner Gazette (https://berlinergazette.de) assistant professor of Digital Journalism at the University of Applied Sciences Hanover and lecturer at the Leuphana University, Bard College and the Humboldt University. She is co-editor of numerous anthologies, most recently ‘A Field Guide to the Snowden Files’ (2017). *Colophon* Design and EPUB development: Leonieke van Dipten. Print on Demand. Fwd: Class Struggle Revisited
by Michel Bauwens 18 Oct '18

18 Oct '18

---------- Forwarded message --------- From: Paul Raskin <info(a)tellus.org> Date: Thu, Oct 18, 2018 at 8:30 PM Subject: Class Struggle Revisited To: <michelsub2004(a)gmail.com> GTI Bulletin - October 2018 View in browser <https://mailchi.mp/tellus/class-struggle-revisited?e=f39359ac71> <https://tellus.us15.list-manage.com/track/click?u=200b309cd11b2c2d483d3a050…> *GTI Bulletin October 2018* Dear Friends, Once upon a time, the working class stood at the forefront of struggles for social and economic justice. Pushed to the wall by the capitalist system, the industrial proletariat spawned a mighty movement able to win essential shop-floor concessions and social welfare protections. But this very success, along with harsh neoliberal counterblows and massive economic changes, has undercut the militancy and unity of the labor movement. Is it time, then, to bid farewell to the working class as a core change agent? Not so fast, argues Guy Standing in The Precariat: Today’s Transformative Class? <https://tellus.us15.list-manage.com/track/click?u=200b309cd11b2c2d483d3a050…> The essay examines the shifting class structure under global capitalism, and finds new bases for hope. Standing argues that the “precariat”—the growing army of workers leading precarious lives of insecure jobs and uncertain futures—could crystallize into a new mass class for spearheading progressive change. It’s an intriguing hypothesis, but not all scholars and activists are sold. A roundtable on Debating the Precariat <https://tellus.us15.list-manage.com/track/click?u=200b309cd11b2c2d483d3a050…> raises critical questions, and Standing offers a spirited response. Ultimately, forging a global movement for systemic change will take more than revitalizing working-class solidarity. Many social actors and oppositional streams must come together in common cause and shared vision. In the American context, Medea Benjamin’s incredible journey as an activist and organizer has taken her across peace and justice battlegrounds from the 1960s to the present. She talks about her life and times, and the challenges ahead, in Living on the Frontlines of Resistance <https://tellus.us15.list-manage.com/track/click?u=200b309cd11b2c2d483d3a050…>.
