Mark: You and your compatriots on P2P view the world from revisionism. Go ahead and keep looking through your microscope-provided by your "teachers." Or take the time and read some very old documented evidence available at a library near you= but you may need to stay there awhile on microfiche. -----Original Message----- From: Mark Janssen Sent: Sunday, October 23, 2011 4:39 PM To: P2P Foundation mailing list Subject: Re: [P2P-F] Fw: Info On Sun, Oct 23, 2011 at 10:32 AM, Natalie Golovin <10natalie(a)cox.net> wrote: > The European Tribes treated the Natives no worse than they treated each > other. Whoa. You should really stop talking. You have NO idea what you're talking about. How about forced acculturation, not allowing them to speak their own language (which hold the record of their own history), confined them under threat of violent force into reservations, among other things. But, really, that's probably not even the worst of it -- the worst of it is that for reasons they couldn't ever understand is why you were doing all of these cruel things when they were willing to share it it all with you. Why, when they handed out their hand to be friends, you chopped it off. Remember, they're the ones who gave us Thanksgiving which is still "celebrated" in this nation today. Read the reports made of making first contact with the Native peoples here. You really should read up before propagating the attitudes of conquest. Sorry.... marcos _______________________________________________ P2P Foundation - Mailing list http://www.p2pfoundation.net https://lists.ourproject.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/p2p-foundation

Fwd: Massive Mobilization In Argentina - Special Edition

---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: The Dawn News <news.thedawn(a)gmail.com> Date: Sat, Apr 30, 2016 at 5:51 AM Subject: Massive Mobilization In Argentina - Special Edition To: [image: the dawn JPG.jpg] Editing: Resumen Latinoamericano and Secretariat of the Continental Coalition of ALBA's Social Movement <http://www.thedawn-news.org/> April 29, 2016 <http://www.thedawn-news.org> http://www.thedawn-news.org/ e-mail (English or Spanish): news.thedawn(a)gmail.com Follow us on Twitter <https://twitter.com/news_thedawn> Like us on Facebook <https://www.facebook.com/NewsTheDawn> ------------------------------ Argentina: Massive Protest Against Macri’s Government <http://www.thedawn-news.org/2016/04/29/argentina-massive-protest-against-ma…> [image: 660d8db8-0e5d-44cf-8ca2-a2e6306318aa.jpg] In commemoration of the International Worker’s Day, all five Worker’s Centrals converged outside the Ministry of Labour in Buenos Aires City after marching from different points of the city. More than 150,000 workers and laid off workers protested against Macri’s economic policies which have resulted in layoffs and an increasing inflation in basic goods. Social and political movements also joined the protests. Both left-wing and Kirchnerist organizations were present to support the claims and reject, once again, the political and economic project that Macrismo intends to deepen. Protesters also marched in favor of the "Anti-layoffs Law" that has already obtained preliminary approval in the Senate and to reject Macri’s sayings: he affirmed that if the law passes, he would veto it. The Anti-Layoffs Law project seeks to put a limit on layoffs in both the public and private sector and it would be retroactive from March 1, 2016, which would apply to all workers that are fired from that date on. Any worker dismissed without proper cause during that period, would be entitled to double the amount of a regular severance, meaning that employers wouldn't be so inclined to lay workers off. The increasing job instability, plus the significant raise in basic service rates, are putting a dent on Macri’s good image and on the support of sectors that had backed him in the election. The government has not been able to revert this tendency, as Macri and his cabinet had intended with the few social measures they announced:an insufficient increase in Child Allowance and the VAT refund, for items under 300 pesos (21 dollars). The State Worker’s Association (ATE) also participated in the mobilization. This sector has been severely hit by the policy of reduction of the state that Macri’s government has taken up: 70,000 state workers have been dismissed, including workers who are part of the most important healthcare programs, such as programs for the prevention of Dengue and Zika and delivery of medicines. ATE has already held a National Strike earlier this year and organized several marches to both the Modernization Ministry and the Labour Ministry. University teachers also joined the protest. Currently, they are carrying out a national strike due to the impossibility of achieving a decent wage increase: in the negotiations, the government offered a 15% raise by the end of this year. This was not enough for the unions, given that the expected inflation for 2016 exceeds 40%. University teachers started the strike on Monday, after another unsuccessful meeting with the authorities. As if that wasn’t enough, the authorities of the public university approved next year's budget with an increase of 0% (zero percent), which, added to the huge increase in basic services, left many faculties struggling to pay for their electricity bills, let alone to pay their teachers and workers. It looks like the education is not a priority for this government. In a joint statement called “Unity for Social Justice”, the five workers’ organizations expressed their demands, which were divided into six items. The first item rings the alarm on the “job loss” and calls to support the voting of the law of “labour emergency”, which was already pass by the Senate and will be discussed in the Deputy Chamber next week. The second item criticizes President Mauricio Macri’s “failure to meet campaign promises” on “the tax on work” (which is how they call the income tax that weighs upon those that aren’t exactly rich) and highlights that “salary is not profit”. The third item calls for “the universalization of family allowances” and the fourth claims for the full enforcement of a pension that is adjustable to inflation and for an integral solution for the pension system”, which is currently in crisis. The fifth point demands the government to comply “the respect of full right to strike with no Security Protocol”, as the one created by the ministry headed by Patricia Bullrich, which allows the police to take action in social protests. The last point of the document ask for “no meddling of any external organism in Unions' lives”. The text is a “warning to political forces so that they acknowledge these problems”, and also, “to the government, that should be announcing concrete measures to find a way out of the crisis”, and stressed the “unity between Unions, due to the seriousness of the situation”. Dear comrades of popular movements, unions, political parties, civil society organizations, pastoral organizations and militants of our peoples’ causes: During the III International Conference "Dilemmas of the Humanity", which gathered hundreds of militants from all continents, we perceived the need of a fluid exchange of information about the struggles carried out in our respective countries. Mainly because systematized and politically emancipatory information does not always reach militants as it should, despite the high amount of news that surface on the internet. We also perceived the lack of a communicational bond among the continents. And one of the biggest obstacles for that is language. Therefore, we decided to make a joint effort in order to publish a newsletter in English language that covers news about the struggles of the people. In order to do this, we have joined forces with Resumen Latinoamericano(digital medium and newspaper headquartered in Buenos Aires), the Secretariat of the Coalition of ALBA’s Social Movements (which edit their own popular movements newsletter, that covers the Americas) and comrades from the US. Nonetheless, we do not wish for it to be a newsletter of the Americas only; it is supposed to benefit all continents. In order to achieve this objective, each movement, organization and/or militant must make an effort to update us with content – news, photos, struggles carried out in their countries–, so that our coverage becomes as representative as possible. The more people collaborate, the more representative of all continents our newsletter will be. We ask you to send content to: news.thedawn(a)gmail.com The newsletter will be sent regularly, and as more people take part in this process, we hope it becomes better and widens its coverage. If you have any suggestions on which organizations and/or people would benefit from receiving this newsletter, we invite you to send their e-mail to: secretaria(a)albamovimientos.org.br. This will allow us to add them to our mailing lists. Also, if you have any suggestions on how we can improve our newsletter, feel free to do so through the same e-mail. Your suggestions will be indeed welcome. Finally, we encourage you to resend the content or freely distribute it in any way you wish. I really liked reading your chapter about a Unified Theory of Revolution and your holistic view of resistance that incorporates both the material and immaterial. Your book has helped me transition into a new phase of subjective evolution and I wanted to say thank you. I have been trying to spread your book around and discuss your ideas with several of my philosophy teachers who are very open-minded and seem interested. I had the idea that having you come to the school to give a talk about your book would be awesome! I would love to make arrangements for that to happen. Thank you for your time! *I wanted to thank you for writing the end of protest.* I am 57 years old but I recognized there was something different and special about occupy wall street as soon as I heard about it. I participated in the Atlanta May Day and was disappointed, and the same day participated with around 10 others in my local town of Lagrange and made some lifelong friends. Since I didn't serve in the military the occupy movement was the first time in my adult life I really felt like a citizen. I agree that not only did Occupy have sufficient numbers and attention; it had the most thoughtful, creative people, it had the right ethics, it had the right way to organize, it was what I had been not just waiting for but watching and working for. After May Day I went back to working as I always have in the way I always have. As liberating as Occupy was reading the end of protest was more liberating: It has now liberated me from a script that no longer works, it has saved me from feeling like a failure and from trying to implement a script that no longer works. It is one of the most important books I have ever read and I will be contacting you in the future with some the quite, slow, small, invisible tactics I am implementing. I am an expert at the upper left hand quadrant of the unified field theory. Thanks for your work you have already made such a difference. *I am nearly finished with your marvelous book.* My eyes were opened on October 1, 2011 when I watched the mass arrests on Brooklyn Bridge. It was an epiphany. At Occupy London I told the assembly that I thought we had just begun the work of decades. But just as you said, the old ways, the old goals and the old perceptions, coupled with intense suppressive activities by the police stopped all that could have come. I have wondered about this for a long time, even felt like I was somehow disloyal if I admitted the faults and failures of Occupy. So End of Protest was very healing. *I’ve just finished End of Protest – read in one day sitting at the kitchen table drinking too much tea in the spring sunshine. Loved it and am sending copies to friends and family. Congratulations. * Most of all I wanted to say that your book was inspiring and confirmative. I plan to get a few mates around here to read it and share reflections. I sent a copy to my brother in Australia who is a frustrated stone mason working in construction hunting for ways to activate his political passions. Then I sent it to my parents to soothe their grief on how the 60’s and 70’s worked out for them. It has also given me motivation and guidance on how to be engaged: the playbook performed the function of an examination of conscience that I will return to. It was also instructive on how to convey heavy theory in a way that doesn’t dilute but reaches the reader. Thank you for writing it. Its really, really good. And thanks for listening – this stuff matters a lot to me. Anyway if you are in Europe at any point let me know. The kettle is always on. We think that it would be very useful- nay vital!- for us to discus these ideas with as many as possible of you. Therefore I would like to urge you all to come to our meeting, or at least to make sure that at least one representative from each research effort (platform, legal context, Barcelona’s work on mapping and survey, and Surrey’s work on simulation) can be present at the meeting. Some of you have announced that June 21 might be difficult so in the Doodle below we also list dates Monday June 27, Monday 4 July as options. Please fill in as soon as possible. http://doodle.com/poll/k6c7baw7z7pqh2ey We envision a one day workshop, people could arrive on the night before for a social dinner and then arrange to leave in the late afternoon. We would like the three partners who have signed up for writing paper for deliverable 4.3 (Barcelona, Paris, Milan) to present their drafts (that should be circulated one week in advance) and then for everyone to contribute to understanding how efforts and insights form all across the project can be integrated into and enrich those drafts. best adam Adam Arvidsson Associate Professor Department of Social and Political Sciences University of Milano via Conservatorio 7, 20122 Milano +39-0250321209 adam.arvidsson(a)unimi.it -- Check out the Commons Transition Plan here at: http://commonstransition.org P2P Foundation: http://p2pfoundation.net - http://blog.p2pfoundation.net <http://lists.ourproject.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/p2p-foundation>Updates: http://twitter.com/mbauwens; http://www.facebook.com/mbauwens #82 on the (En)Rich list: http://enrichlist.org/the-complete-list/

I just brought out an edited collected titled “Building Global Labor Solidarity in a Time of Accelerating Globalization” (Chicago: Haymarket Books, April 2016). A flier is attached below. This is a collection, with contributions from David Bacon, Bruno Dobrusin, Jenny Jungehuelsing, Katherine Nastovski, Timothy Ryan, Kim Scipes and Michael Zweig. There simply is nothing out like it. We have chapters on theorizing global labor solidarity, building international labor solidarity in Canada in the 1970s and ‘80s, exploratory research on using migrant experiences to build cross-border solidarity, creating continental-wide labor solidarity in Latin America against the growing “Commodes Consensus,” AFL-CIO support for emerging labor organizations in Bangladesh, examining the KMU labor center of the Philippines to see what we can learn from their experiences, cross-border solidarity across the US-Mexico border, and a proposal for a new foreign policy for the AFL-CIO. I want to let you know about the book, and encourage you to get it. But I’d also like to ask that you share this message with your networks, and encourage people to share this message with their networks. I want to get this out to the widest range of people possible. You can order directly from haymarketbooks.com <http://haymarketbooks.com> , and the book is listed under their “labor movement” category. It lists for US $19. You can also get it from Amazon, but Amazon says the book won’t be out until July 12—we’re trying to get them to change that, but no luck yet! Pre-orders from them are cheaper. Also, if you teach at a college or university, please ask your library to order the book. Also, if you’re a member of a labor or related organization, please ask them to publicize the book. Thanks in advance for any help you can give. I’m open to doing radio interviews if anyone is interested, and can do book signings if not too distant from Chicago. Would love to hear what you think once you’ve read it. Fwd: IGF MAG Connecting the next Billion Re: Allied Fiber Status?

---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Amelia Andersdotter <teirdes(a)gmail.com> Date: Wed, Apr 27, 2016 at 11:06 AM Subject: IGF MAG Connecting the next Billion Re: Allied Fiber Status? Dear all, The IGF MAG has a view to producing a policy paper with recommendations for how to connect the next billion. Initial support for "effective competition" seems weak, and they will gather public opinions in May according to the time frame proposed. Not to mention the MAG has AT&T and Verizon included, while challenger ISPs from Europe that I've encountered witness that they don't see the point really of engaging with the UN. Civil society is focused on community networks, where for instance in Europe, we see that actors that are community networks make a big and relevant difference in markets where effective competition is not effectively enforced. I pointed out that the EU is a good example of how effective competition when enforced or not enforced is helpful to infrastructure investments, upon which the plan included details on "regional specificities". I'm not sure if this somehow counter-balances the idea that Europe is a quite good point of reference for competition/non-competition in poor and rich countries. Could/should we try and make some form of submission in this process? I already pinged ECTA about it, although they would of course be considered a "regional player". best regards, Amelia -- Check out the Commons Transition Plan here at: http://commonstransition.org P2P Foundation: http://p2pfoundation.net - http://blog.p2pfoundation.net <http://lists.ourproject.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/p2p-foundation>Updates: http://twitter.com/mbauwens; http://www.facebook.com/mbauwens #82 on the (En)Rich list: http://enrichlist.org/the-complete-list/

Fwd: [commoning] Commoning and controlling movement | Talk in Berlin on May 3rd > Essay
by Michel Bauwens 27 Apr '16

---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Krystian Woznicki <kw(a)berlinergazette.de> Date: Tue, Apr 26, 2016 at 4:14 PM Subject: [commoning] Commoning and controlling movement | Talk in Berlin on May 3rd > Essay To: commoning(a)lists.commons-institut.org Hi, all crisis phenomena have a common denominator: they reveal a general deficit of imagination. The present is being endured to the same degree as the future seems inconceivable. What will happen tomorrow with social security, education, affluence or culture? Some people bury their head in the sand of the present moment, others compensate for the missing vision with fear and aggression. Angela Merkel's “we'll make it” doesn't help much. It mostly means: if you can't prevent something from happening, then just pretend you're steering it. There are good reasons to be wary of big plans. In the past, the ones which didn't fail made things even worse. On the other hand uncontrolled developments usually strengthen the rule of the stronger. So how can we re-imagine the future? The Canadian thinker and activist Max Haiven has written several books on this question, among others Crises of Imagination, Crises of Power: Capitalism, Creativity and the Commons (Zed books, 2014). Now, he opens his rich tool box to focus on the movement of people, data and goods – a traffic that will not continue without control. Borders and infrastructure are the central sites for this control of movement, and therefore also crucial sites for the production of futures. How is it possible to achieve democratic oversight of borders and infrastructure? Which imperatives are required to reimagine and rebuild these sites accordingly? He explores this in the context of TACIT FUTURES, the 2016 programme of the Berliner Gazette.
