The articles are available as pdf, html, and as one comprehensive pdf for download at:http://www.triple-c.at/index.php/tripleC/issue/current Special issue: Philosophers of the World Unite! Theorising Digital Labour and Virtual Work - Definitions, Dimensions and Forms Edited by Marisol Sandoval, Christian Fuchs, Jernej A. Prodnik, Sebastian Sevignani, Thomas Allmer in context of the COST Action Dynamics of Virtual Workhttp://dynamicsofvirtualwork.com/ This special issue of tripleC: Communication, Capitalism & Critique aims to contribute to building a theoretical framework for the critical analysis of digital labour, virtual work, and related concepts that can initiate further debates, inform empirical studies, and inspire social struggles connected to work and labour in and beyond digital capitalism. The papers collected in this special issue (a) provide systematic definitions of digital labour, (b) analyse its specific dimension, and (c) discuss different forms of digital labour. The papers collected in this special issue theorise digital labour as a multifaceted field characterised by exploitation, alienation, precariousness, power, inequality, ideology, and struggle. These problems of digital labour are however not inherent to digital technology as such but result from its inclusion and application in capitalist relations of production. Theorising digital labour, as labour that produces or makes use of digital technologies, can help to understand its problems, limits, potentials, and contradictions. It can therefore highlight the need for social change and inspire political action. However, the act of freeing digital technology from being an instrument for the domination of labour requires to go beyond just interpreting the world and to engage in social struggles that want to change it. a must read essay on the world conjucture
by Michel Bauwens 02 Sep '14

Thanks Orsan, for bringing this to our attention, As the oscillations of the world conjuncture intensity, and as the resistance and creative reactions to these challenges accelerate, the p2p-foundation and the p2p theoretical approaches are bound to call us to play a larger and more crucial role, hence, we need to upgrade our strategic understanding and capabilities, this is a very good start, and I strongly recommend that people who take the world situation seriously to read it, https://www.academia.edu/7864649/Class_Struggles_and_Development_in_Contemp… -- Check out the Commons Transition Plan here at: http://en.wiki.floksociety.org/w/Research_Plan P2P Foundation: http://p2pfoundation.net - http://blog.p2pfoundation.net <http://lists.ourproject.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/p2p-foundation>Updates: http://twitter.com/mbauwens; http://www.facebook.com/mbauwens #82 on the (En)Rich list: http://enrichlist.org/the-complete-list/

Fwd: MasterCard-Branded National eID Card Launched in Nigeria

awful, a corporate enclosure of civic identity, totally unacceptable form of digital feudalism, ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Tom Crowl <culturalengineer(a)gmail.com> Date: Tue, Sep 2, 2014 at 11:53 PM Subject: MasterCard-Branded National eID Card Launched in Nigeria *MasterCard-Branded National eID Card Launched in Nigeria* http://newsroom.mastercard.com/press-releases/mastercard-branded-national-e… I do not believe the ideal is to have megabanks become the arbiters of identity. This has nothing to do with a belief that they are inherently good or bad... but rather the inherent narrowness of its purposes (benefiting management and stockholders). A user-centered, user-owned 'silo' required for a viable, one-click Internet payment capability IS the path... as is the need for a viable micropayment. Ignoring this is going to end with further consolidation of power and wealth. Its the wrong path. The user can and must be at the top of the network.... not the banks, not the phone companies. This is not a minor issue. This will limit competition in banking and currencies... and provide methods of control and enforcement to them resistant to outside limitation or oversight. (in fact this is literally giving an 'off-switch' to private interests allowing them to shut down a society at a moment's notice.) *Tom Crowl* http://CulturalEngineer.blogspot.com -- Check out the Commons Transition Plan here at: http://en.wiki.floksociety.org/w/Research_Plan P2P Foundation: http://p2pfoundation.net - http://blog.p2pfoundation.net <http://lists.ourproject.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/p2p-foundation>Updates: http://twitter.com/mbauwens; http://www.facebook.com/mbauwens #82 on the (En)Rich list: http://enrichlist.org/the-complete-list/

---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Ben Metz <mail(a)benmetz.org> Date: Tue, Sep 2, 2014 at 3:16 PM Subject: Tuesday 30th September | Drinks | Bigger Boat for Open Government | RSVP Dear all, I am emailing to invite you to the first in a series of informal drinks to explore what is happening in the field of participatory approaches to governance of the public realm. As you will know, from our interaction, this is the focus of the Bigger Boat for Open Government project that I have been engaged with over the last few months. Kindly hosted by Jericho Chambers <http://www.jerichochambers.com/> we'll meet between 6 and 9 on Tuesday 30th September for informal drinks and conversations on the subject of open government. If appropriate we might hear from one or two of the attendees about their work in the field as well as a summary of the interim findings from the Bigger Boat project. We'll be hosted by the project chairs Danny Kruger and Neal Lawson. Overall, the purpose of these drinks is to explore the possibilities for collaboration between different actors in the field (tech folk, civil society actors, funders, etc.) and over time to support these collaborations in more in depth ways as Bigger Boat develops. So - 6 - 9pm at Jericho Chambers, 12a Charterhouse Square (on the corner of Rutland Place), London EC1M 6AX. (link to map here <https://www.google.co.uk/maps/place/12+Charterhouse+Square,+London+EC1M/@51…>). Nearest tubes are Barbican and Farringdon.
