---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: David Week (Assai) <dew(a)assai.com.au> Date: Tue, Jul 1, 2014 at 10:54 PM Subject: New Australia To: Michel Bauwens <michel(a)p2pfoundation.net>, Michael Bier < michael.bier(a)chl.org.au> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Australia New Australia was a utopian socialist settlement in Paraguay founded by the Australian New Australian Movement. The colony was officially founded on 28 September 1893 as Colonia Nueva Australia and comprised 238 adults and children. Paraguay was chosen as the site of the settlement. Lane recruited many, and the first ship left Sydney in July 1893 for Paraguay, where the government was keen to get white settlers and had offered the group a large area of good land. The founding of the settlement was of interest to left-wing thinkers worldwide; of the settlement Peter Kropotkin said, The fact that men and women, who have made Australia what it is, are compelled to migrate from it, speaks volumes in itself. 'Make the land, be the dung which renders it productive, build the centres of civilisation which render it valuable – and go away!' That is the true picture of modern capitalist management. The same here, the same at the antipodes – always the same! http://www.argentinaindependent.com/travel/travelfeature/new-australia-the-… William Lane’s autocratic leadership soon led to dissent. The pledges to teetotalism and the ‘colour line’ he had required of the new settlers had seemed logical back in Australia – but here, surrounded by the temptations of beautiful Guaraní women (in a country where roughly 80% of the population were female) and caña, the local sugar-cane rum, they proved highly contentious. As one of the colony’s descendents, famous comic-book writer Robin Wood, put it to me: “Lane had two rules: 1) No booze. A group of Irish, Scots and Australians? Come on! And 2) No hanky-panky with the natives. For a socialist, he was very racist, and very stupid.” Riven with tension and disagreement, the colony soon split into two. The original New Australia abandoned communal ownership, dividing up into private family plots, while Lane established a new colony, Cosme. Even more isolated than Nueva Australia, Cosme struggled on until 1909 – but Lane himself left in 1899 after it became obvious his grand plan was doomed to failure. http://www.migrationheritage.nsw.gov.au/exhibition/objectsthroughtime/1893-… Paraguay was desperately trying to rebuild itself after the devastating Triple Alliance War of 1864-1870 wiped out most of the nation’s young men. Paraguay’s population was reduced from 525,000 to 220,000, leaving a majority of women, children, old and disabled. Mary Gilmore eventually returned to Australia and in a 1959 interview Gilmore said: It was purely communistic. I wouldn’t say it was a success, but I certainly wouldn’t say it was a failure. The reason it had to break up, or disappear, is because William Lane would only have British people in it… About 2,000 Paraguayans can trace their ancestry to the 500 unionists who have names like Wood, McLeod, Burke and Murray. Some of their descendents are still on the same farms today. Many descendants of the New Australian utopians have since migrated to Australia. Despite this however the Australia Government does not grant the descendants of the New Australian utopians special migration consideration. -- *Please note an intrusion wiped out my inbox on February 8; I have no record of previous communication, proposals, etc ..* P2P Foundation: http://p2pfoundation.net - http://blog.p2pfoundation.net <http://lists.ourproject.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/p2p-foundation>Updates: http://twitter.com/mbauwens; http://www.facebook.com/mbauwens #82 on the (En)Rich list: http://enrichlist.org/the-complete-list/

[image: Kosmos Newsletter] <http://kosmosjournal.us3.list-manage2.com/track/click?u=a2e6f01f29f00e615c1…> JULY 15, 2014 NEWSLETTER How Do We Live Together Now? Dear Readers, How do we live together now? This is a question that has been rattling around my head of late and I brought it with me when the Kosmos core team met in Lenox, Massachusetts last week. In a way, it is a question that pervades a lot of what we do at Kosmos, and each of the five women who met for three days to laugh, cook, collaborate and reflect is devoting a substantial portion of heart and mind addressing it. Dot Maver founder of The National Peace Academy <http://kosmosjournal.us3.list-manage.com/track/click?u=a2e6f01f29f00e615c14…> and Global Alliance for Ministries and Infrastructures for Peace <http://kosmosjournal.us3.list-manage1.com/track/click?u=a2e6f01f29f00e615c1…> joins Kosmos Associates full-time this fall on the heels of a three year journey as Executive Director with the River Phoenix Center for Peacebuilding <http://kosmosjournal.us3.list-manage2.com/track/click?u=a2e6f01f29f00e615c1…>. She designed a program that radically reduced violence at the community level—now being sought to scale nationally. During our staff meeting she spent one evening by phone as guest faculty with James O’Dea’s Peace Ambassador Training <http://kosmosjournal.us3.list-manage.com/track/click?u=a2e6f01f29f00e615c14…> addressing peacebuilding in community. Dot is dedicated to inspiring right human relations on behalf of the common good. Don’t miss Dot’s article in the Fall/Winter issue of Kosmos. Myra Jackson is Kosmos Director of Public Relations and one of our UN NGO representatives. She is working to introduce Kosmos to the 67 University NGOs at the UN, and as Media Director of the annual UN NGO Conference, is connecting us with global changemakers. In addition she is developing a Kosmos collaboration with the Omega Institute Conference on the Commons <http://kosmosjournal.us3.list-manage1.com/track/click?u=a2e6f01f29f00e615c1…> . Board Member, Tara Stuart is an educator, speaker, author, and artist who has led numerous inter-cultural learning journeys to the Mexican Yucatan, India, Turkey, and frequently to Himalayan destinations in Nepal, Bhutan, Tibet and Mustang with Rinzin Sherpa, our newest Kosmos Global Ambassador. Tara always shares Kosmos Journal wherever she goes and just brims with humor, stories and wisdom. And Editor Nancy Roof, of course, is well-known to most of you. She has worked generously for more than 50 years <http://kosmosjournal.us3.list-manage.com/track/click?u=a2e6f01f29f00e615c14…> to promote personal transformation, sharing and peace. This fall, she will lead a Kosmos team to Findhorn, Scotland for the New Story Summit, <http://kosmosjournal.us3.list-manage.com/track/click?u=a2e6f01f29f00e615c14…> already anticipated to be a watershed global event bringing together people of all ages and cultures ‘to support the emergence of a coherent new story for humanity and to produce practical, collaborative ways to live this new story.’ That leaves me, newly appointed digital editor- always carrying more questions than answers. As a mother, media maker, seeker and local activist, these questions mainly revolve around community. What makes communities resilient? How do we break down barriers, keep children safe, become more sharing, more tolerant, happier? What can we learn from nature and our own inner gifts that will help us on this incredible journey? How do we live together now? That’s why it’s an honor and a joy to be part of the Kosmos family where questions like these are explored on a personal, local and global scale. With your collaboration, my hope is to develop the Kosmos website, newsletter and social presence to be uplifting, helpful and engaging, and to secure a place at the table with such remarkable women as Nancy, Tara, Myra and Dot. Lastly, Findhorn Foundation has asked me to be a part of the film team documenting the New Story Summit, joining artists I greatly admire like Ian MacKenzie <http://kosmosjournal.us3.list-manage.com/track/click?u=a2e6f01f29f00e615c14…>, Arnd Wachter <http://kosmosjournal.us3.list-manage.com/track/click?u=a2e6f01f29f00e615c14…>, Sustainable Man Chris Agnos <http://kosmosjournal.us3.list-manage1.com/track/click?u=a2e6f01f29f00e615c1…>, and other media makers from Brazil, Africa and China. I have chosen ‘intentional community and civic engagement’ as my director’s theme. The media our team collects will be shared in many wonderful ways through special projects, blogs, and educational efforts by Findhorn, Kosmos and others. That’s the news. I didn’t get a chance to tell you about the items in this edition of the newsletter, but in one way or another they have to do with living lightly on the earth. Hope you see something you like. And if you have thoughts, suggestions or ideas to share, reach me at rhondafabian(a)me.com. Much gratitude. Indeed, many religious communities already are contributing examples of compassionate and sustainable living. Grim and Tucker define religious ecologies as “ways of orienting humans to the universe, grounding them in the community of nature and humans, nurturing them in Earth’s fecund processes, and transforming them into their deeper cosmological selves,” opening us toward “the creative force in the cosmos.” Religious ecologies provide ritual structures and ways of living that connect us to the community of life. Participants in the Harvard conferences identified seven key values for human-Earth flourishing that are shared by the world religions: reverence, respect, restraint, reciprocity, redistribution, responsibility and renewal. These values are foundational to religious ecologies. This guide brings together in one place examples of planning policies around the UK that support community food growing. It is aimed primarily at planning authorities to help them to use food growing as a way of creating healthy communities, but contains practical advice for all communities around the different issues that food growing helps to address, from sustainability to residential amenity via health and wellbeing, green infrastructure, regeneration and many other agendas. Within each section they document how food growing has been woven into planning policies to meet these priorities in local areas, and illustrate these with examples of growing projects that have also been set up to help meet that particular agenda. In some cases, such as in Brighton & Hove, the food growing spaces were set up as a direct result of planning policies, which have now led to over a third of new residential developments having integrated space for community food growing. Fwd: [Networkedlabour] SaysUs project seek floss collaborators
by Michel Bauwens 15 Jul '14

---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Orsan <orsan1234(a)gmail.com> Date: Tue, Jul 15, 2014 at 3:34 AM Subject: [Networkedlabour] SaysUs project seek floss collaborators To: squares <squares(a)lists.takethesquare.net>, "< networkedlabour(a)lists.contrast.org>" <networkedlabour(a)lists.contrast.org> Dear friends, Below is an open invitation for floss developers, commoners, activists and anyone who shares the vision, we tried to formulate in the text as simple as possible. SaysUs just joined in May First / People link, and we sent the below text to the comrades involved in and collaborate with her may. Mayfirst.org has been providing many useful services to activists and movements around the world. Since I believe wholeheartedly that most of the comrades on these lists share similar values and virtues with our comrades engaged in may first / people link network, that is why didn't see the necessity to adopt the text so sending you as it is. The concept is still draft and we would like to let you know that we seek any kind of solidarity from you to take the idea further and make it real. We would appreciate if you join us and / or pass our word to your comrades you know or think who might be interested in joining their labour and creativity with us: "Says-Us (see http://www.saysus.net) is a new member of may first / people link. We propose the creation of a web facility, a portal, to facilitate the ability of millions of people to tell their own stories, to write anonymous complaints, about work, housing, health care, schools, unemployment, prison, government, almost anything, as it affects them. Many job related web sites have already shown that, given the chance to safely complain, people will do so. Unfortunately, existing corporate sites are oriented towards helping employers find cheap labor, and to sell advertising, not to helping change workplace practices. Non-corporate sites are particular to one union or reform organization and are not sufficiently generalized or allowing of self-organization. Jobvent.com <http://jobvent.com/> collected as many as 100K complaints about 10K companies. The complaints were then destroyed when jobvent was acquired by Glassdoor.com <http://glassdoor.com/>. Sites like glassdoor are spaces where hard-to-organize flex-jobs seekers may read about and learn from each other's experiences. But site users are not offered any course of action except the obvious - to avoid employment at the worst offender companies. Says-Us will be different from job-recruitment sites and complaint forums because it will offer users opportunities for self-organization, the ability to find and address each other, as well as assistance, and organizational help to those who want it. Site users will be able to find others with similar complaints, by organization and location. If they work for the same company (anywhere in the world), have the same landlord, are dealing with the same predatory bank, government, etc they will be able to find each other by anonymous site id. They can pick thresholds of action, and choose from many forms of action, should they decide to do so. Best practices, "pros", will also be collected, allowing users to identify organizations that both have good employment practices as well as socially useful product. Labor unions, labour activists and trans-local social justice and community organizing / collective action / activists will be able to be "found" on the site by those in need of their services and open to their messages. We would like to develop the ideas and build the site in line with open-source and libre philosophy: p2p, distributed, highly secure, scalable, not-for-profit, user extendable (by data fields), enabling self-organizing and empowerment, multi-lingual, web and especially mobile applicable. A simple user interface will allow people to move readily from complaints and issues to self-empowerment, self-organizing, and self determined communication and action through existing organizations. Gateways to whistleblowing projects (like Wikileaks, Associated Whistleblowers Press, LabourLeaks, or WildLeaks) or progressive and independent unions, or relevant how-to, self-learn or Do-It-Yourself projects, hacker spaces, mediaLabs and other alternative economy-solidarity networks can be offered in the Take Action section. As may first / people link members can see, this potentially important facility would need help from people of many interests, skills, and dedication. We would need help with requirements, understanding of technological possibilities and needs, simple and attractive user interface design, security and scalability, coding, open-source knowledge, coordination, legal help, multi-language translation, and financial help. At the monent we use a doku wiki build in on our online workgroup (https://on.usilive.org/dokuwiki/972/) on the Organizing Network -which is project being developed by another may first / people link member, Union Solidarity International. Since you need to register Organizing Network to log in and join the group, we might use another location [like a SaysUs media-wiki] to develop the ideas for the site, the user interface, and other requirements. We would love for any form of assistance possible from MayFirst members. We, Frank and Örsan, (http://saysus.net/who-are-we/) care most that the project be implemented well, by many people of skill, vision and of passion for justice, democracy, freedom, and equality. Please get in touch with us, for a discussion or to help. There is a contact form at the bottom of the who-are-we page." For decades, research on labour collective organisation has focused almost exclusively on workers collectively employed on a stable basis in industrial settings or in the public sector, defended by collective bargaining, represented by trade unions and inserted within relatively stable systems of industrial relations. This view however it has always failed to take into account the transformative potentialities of that vast, rich and meaningful array of ‘precarious’ work experiences and relations that allow the production and re-production of capital as a whole. Women’s labour in the sphere of social reproduction, low-waged workers who work outside conventional work as subcontractors in global production chains or in the informal economy of the global cities or as crowd workers in the digital economy, migrant workers whose exploited work often lays at the margin of legality, new groups of dispossessed people forced into the labour market, are categories of workers traditionally excluded and neglected by the labour relations literature as laborers; often considered unproductive, unregulated, and thus unrepresentable. Considering the speed of development and intensity of integration of global capitalist processes and the political turn to neoliberalism, which have brought about new (or refreshed old) paradigms to increase workers’ productivity and profits, absent has been the signal importance of these ‘invisible’, precarious workers, today representing not just the vast majority of workers in the global South but also increasingly shaping the social landscape of cities across the world. Broadening research on this underworld of precarious and not represented workers is important to understand one fundamental dimension of the process of capital accumulation in the global age but it also helps to address deep theoretical concerns, put in evidence by heterodox Marxist currents across the social sciences, originating from the use of narrow conceptions about work and workers: - The conventional notion of the working class, based on the industrial, waged worker, has been questioned for not considering how different labour regimes co-exist and contribute to the development of capitalism as a system, especially women engaged in social reproduction. - The social organisation and militancy of workers it has been reduced to workers’ resistance to official strikes organised by representative trade unions, the ‘institutionalised form of resistance’, leaving aside the rich history and tradition of workers’ self-organisation. This remains crucial today in framing precarious workers organisation and in setting possibilities for transformative agency. - Geographically research concentrated on struggles at the workplace without considering the linkages of these with broader struggles over workers’ daily lives. In the past 30 years, one sided views of labour has been explicitly based on the political role assigned to the industrial workers. Either from a revolutionary or a reformist perspective this particular section of the working class was considered central to any transformative politics. The advent of neoliberalism has swept away many of the elements upon which this centrality was built, leaving a *tabula rasa*, politically and theoretically speaking. From an empirical point of view, diversity, heterogeneity, unevenness, unpredictability characterise most workers’ struggles of the 21st century. Against this theoretical and empirical gap in knowledge, the aim of this special issue is twofold. 1. It aims to offer insights on the daily lives, organization and resistance of precarious workers, intending these in broader terms, as employed in a range of different sectors, geographical and spatial landscapes, economic environments, and regulatory employment regimes. 2. It aims to produce new knowledge into the connections between these different workers’ struggles and the specific socio-economic, historical and productive context in which have developed. Within these aims and considering the scope of the journal, we seek submissions from any social sciences discipline concerned with the study of workers and labour using a range of empirical and methodological analyses. The editors however would especially welcome papers that - reach theoretical insights in addressing the relevance of certain groups of workers’ experiences or develop their arguments through comparative/historical analysis; - focus on global cities and diverse employment regimes, workplaces and daily lives experiences; - Consider the experiences of workers in strategic sectors of the economy (distribution, transportation, knowledge economy); - Search for connections of workers struggles in different locations across the global production chain; - offer insights on new forms of organizing and resistance DUE DATE FOR ABSTRCTS OF 750-1000 WORDS: 15 September 2014 WORD LENGTH: 6000-10,000 words DUE DATE FOR FINAL SUBMISSION: end March 2015 PUBLICATION DATE: September 2015 INCLUDE NAME, AFFILIATION WE ENCOURAGE PHD STUDENTS AND ESTABLISHED SCHOLARS TO CONTRIBUTE Published in http://www.historicalmaterialism.org/news/distributed/call-for-papers-refra… __._,_.___ ------------------------------ Posted by: Historical Materialism News <news(a)historicalmaterialism.org> ------------------------------ Reply via web post <https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/historicalmaterialism/conversations/mes…> • Reply to sender <[email protected]?subject=Re%3A%20Call%20for%20Papers%3A%20%20Reframing%20Labour%20and%20Workers%E2%80%99%20Resistance%20for%20the%2021st%20Century> • Reply to group <[email protected]?subject=Re%3A%20Call%20for%20Papers%3A%20%20Reframing%20Labour%20and%20Workers%E2%80%99%20Resistance%20for%20the%2021st%20Century> • Start a New Topic <https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/historicalmaterialism/conversations/new…> • Messages in this topic <https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/historicalmaterialism/conversations/top…> (1) Visit Your Group <https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/historicalmaterialism/info;_ylc=X3oDMTJ…> - New Members <https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/historicalmaterialism/members/all;_ylc=…> 2 [image: Yahoo! open budget
by Michel Bauwens 14 Jul '14

14 Jul '14

Orsan, you write: <To avoid any negative impact for all the sides, I would humbly suggest, especially in terms of financial aspects, providing full transparency (Flok, P2P-F, Cook Consultancy, Ecuadorean ministries so on). And without practicing a sort of participatory budgeting, IMHO, there will always be shadows of doubts and questions hanging on these kinds of state-capital-funded projects.> Orsan, the budget was highly secretive and tightly controlled by the flok mgt team; in fact, AD was removed (though they are claiming he removed himself, so I'm not sure), largely because he tried to get a regular and open budget done controlled by the institution. It was the key area of contention and why he has been called a spy. Here is my guesswork: * the project was tri-funded by the Min of Knowledge, the Senescyt innovation secretariat and the IAEN institution * the entire process with wages may have reached $400k , with an additional $300k plus for the summit The wage issue was highly contentious, from before I reached the project. The rector wanted to pay intl' level wages to foreign researchers, and this was not taken well by the locals. On the other hand, the institution payed some people very well who never showed up, and trying to get rid of them is one of the causes that caused him the loss of his job. The ratio of staff to students is incredibly skewed at the IAEN but I can't remember the ratio, but much more staff than students. My understanding is that most of the research team got $4k and I got $5.x as 'director'. There is no doubt that this is well paid, but it is still less for a month than a private consulting gets for a day. So, if the FLOK is a genuine transition project, that was not outside of decency. There is a lot of discussion about the other salaries, which are shrouded in secrecy. One of the most often expressed critiques directed at me and the research team: how can you guys make so much noise when you are paid so well, 'aren't you ashamed'; on the other hand, 'flok mgt works tirelessly for nearly nothing'. This is the mythology, used again and again, but I'm not sure it is the truth; from very good accounting sources, I was informed that they earned four times their claims, but I can't prove this. But as I've learned not to trust anything said coming from the flok mgt, I tend to give credence to my source. As for me, yes, I was well paid, after living under the minimum wage for seven years. We had to pay our own tickets, rent and rent guarantees, all internal job-related travels, and because of the length of the engagement, I had to bring my family for two months (this was a stated condition of my employment, even if I had to finance it myself). Because of the structurally late payments, I had to pay 40% more for these tickets, and on average, since we all had to take loans, 20% interest fees. So, just to say, despite appearances, none of us got rich from this, and we worked tirelessly, in very tough circumstances, 12 to 14 hours a day, including many weekend days. So, we are certainly not victims, privileged for sure, but not getting rich on this assignment either. Neither of us asked for anything, we accepted an invitation with its conditions, so I think the whole wage controversy is really a side issue. I'm not suggesting any budget malfeasance, the opacity of the budget was exclusively an issue of political control. You should also take into account that due to the structural non-payment, the flok mgt had to make superhuman efforts for the project to merely survive. Two full-time staff were engaged just to speed up our payments (they achieved a 6 week average delay due to superhuman efforfts): I was told, but can't verify this, that 26 signatures were needed each month for each wage, a sign of terrible bureaucracy. (while I critique the hierarchical aspects of the mgt process we should not forget the extreme structural stress they were facing day in day out). Also, apart from the real work, we were forced to produce partly fictitious 'products', taking 2-3 working days to produce, as proof of our work. These had to be delivered 10 days before the end of each month, hence having a 10 day 'future narrative' included. You have no idea of the level of dysfunctional bureaucracy that was prevalent. This is not exclusively a flok and IAEN problem, as the young and mosty precarious Prometheo researchers also are routinely not paid for the first four months of their work. Unless you have strong reserves to withstand such delays, I would not recommend any foreigner to work as a scholar in Ecuador for the moment. But if you have reserves and go for the experience and engagement with local people, it's worthwhile, it's a spectacular place. The structural situation in Ecuador is that most of the education funding goes to Yachai, a rather terrible neoliberal experiment in a green desert, signing secret deals with Microsoft, etc .. There is really nothing there, and won't be, for a very long time. While the existing universities are being underfunded, this artificial place, which will be structurally incapable of atracting the creative class (even richard florida thinks it's a terrible idea), is getting all the attention and funding. It's a little bit like the anti-FLOK project, though funded by the same Ministry, one of the many contradictions of the project and the political situation in Ecuador. Just as it was impossible to find a single civic mvt with a positive view of the government (at least amongst the 70 we spoke with); it was equally impossible to find a single university administrator or scholar that supported the current education policy. It's part of the divorce between the intellectual class and the government that I discussed earlier, Michel -- *Please note an intrusion wiped out my inbox on February 8; I have no record of previous communication, proposals, etc .. * P2P Foundation: http://p2pfoundation.net - http://blog.p2pfoundation.net <http://lists.ourproject.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/p2p-foundation>Updates: http://twitter.com/mbauwens; http://www.facebook.com/mbauwens #82 on the (En)Rich list: http://enrichlist.org/the-complete-list/

dear Kevin can you announce this on our p2p list ? ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Mike Linksvayer <ml(a)gondwanaland.com> Date: Mon, Jul 14, 2014 at 4:17 AM Subject: [commoning] Wikipedia Barn Raising July 19, focusing on Open Education (Online + Oakland, California) To: commoning <commoning(a)listen.jpberlin.de> Six months ago there was a fascinating thread on this list subject: "The Co-operative University" and I recall thinking that most of what was discussed was inadequately represented or totally absent from Wikipedia. I'm helping with an event in six days (info below) to improve articles related to open education on Wikipedia. It would be great to have some participants with knowledge of "education as a commons" citations and concepts, to improve existing articles or create new ones. (It seems http://p2pfoundation.net/Category:Education will be very useful to draw from. Thank you Michel Bauwens and everyone who has contributed to that compendium over the years!) Mike ... Please join us for a "Wikipedia Barn Raising" event focusing on Open Educational Resources (OER). The Barn Raising will happen on Saturday July 19th, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Pacific Time (1800-2300 UTC), at the Oakland Impact Hub, at 2323 Broadway (near the 19th St. BART station) and online. Lunch and refreshments will be provided at Oakland Impact Hub. Since 2012, we've been working to strengthen Wikipedia's coverage of OER and related topics. We've worked to build an international community around this goal at conferences, through our online "Writing Wikipedia Articles" (WIKISOO) course, and through the formation of WikiProject Open. At the Barn Raising, we will focus on improving high-priority Wikipedia articles, and consider ways to strengthen WikiProject Open as a resource for staying connected, learning, and working together. We'll also welcome online participants from around the world, with collaboration tools and scheduled video check-ins. ConFLOKt resolution
by Orsan 13 Jul '14

13 Jul '14

First of all, I have serious doubts about we are all making disaster out of problems raising out of practicalities could have been avoided such a conflict. It is sad because seems like sides are open to debate so we could also learn more, but some practical difficulties makes things worse. Therefore I have below modest and humble suggestions to all the sides involved in this conflict, (would appreciate if any one on both lists could pass it to the Es list as well); i. putting all the stones out from your pockets, but first allow all the sides to get on the same conversation(s), so that people like me, the audience can get a complete overview, and get less confused. The first email of Michel, was to this EN list, Spanish list and may be one other. Then some people responded in the Spanish list -I am guessing because I am not on that list, and cant read Es- and some to EN list, but all without CC.ing to the other two lists. Then disussion got devided and as far as I understand Xabier, Daniel, Bernardo, and some others involved and mentioned are not in the EN list. I think this would only put oil on the fire and we don't want that. This might be the reson behind many confusions, like Gordon asking why people from Ecuador not responding, may be they are/were on the Es list. ii. Of course this is an importat debate and will go out public, and should go. But again how will it be possible to carry the context of this scattered discussion out? iii. All sides need to stop accusing each other based on intuitions or weak evidence. either on the list or in the private emails sending to each other. The scattered-ness of the debate can create a worsening escalation and more damage on all sides. There are lots of political, practical, cultural and most importantly economical grounds we can learn from such conflicts at every level from micro (personality) to macro culture ad cosmos. If we could manage to turn this entire discussion from the very self-destructive point we are at now, then may be we could manage to turn it into a rich learning experience. I agree with previous comments and counter comments, on that one of the most important political lesson that one can get from such a debate would be about the state - p2p encounter. This of course is separate from the role of classes, class formations and struggles, capitalist or ruling class strategies, and counter class strategies, the workers', farmers, hackers, commoners position in all these experimental relations, like the role and position of workers - knowledge producers in a mixed collaborative horizontal and vertical relationship to state and capital goes on. There are again of course very juicy and serious areas like CIA involvement. neocons' infiltration, so on so fort. But if any one personally or publicly going to do that, he or she had better to do it with delivering as perfect as possible theoretical and hard framework and evidence, other wise whoever does it can only damages his / herself in the age of networks. I have my own arguments and analysis in process of formation, which I would like to deliver into the exchange; but would be possible and useful if we could unite this confusing exchanges on one EN and one ES, so two lists, and cc all the relevant emails to both lists. Otherwise I don't see how would it be useful and wonder if it would worth to effort for that. For a short while the tone and accusation were going down, hope we can manage it and start generating positive energies again. Orsan
