Fwd: World Economics Association
by Michel Bauwens 17 Apr '14

---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Real-World Economics Review <info(a)worldeconomicsassociation.org> Date: Thu, Apr 17, 2014 at 4:59 AM Subject: World Economics Association To: michelsub2004(a)gmail.com *Dear subscriber to the Real-World Economics Review,* Three years ago the *World Economics Association* (WEA) was launched to create an inclusive professional association for the *global* community of economists. Already it is second in size only to the American Economic Association, from which it differs in two fundamental dimensions. One is the self-evident geo-political difference; the other is that the WEA is not committed to maintaining the hegemony of the neoclassical school. Instead, in the tradition of the natural sciences and physics especially, it supports investigation of real-world economies from multiple perspectives. I should also emphasize that the WEA is not the tool or creation of the world’s financial oligarchy; instead it is financially independent. The WEA’s strength is the breadth and size of its membership. Real communities consist of individuals. And that is why I am inviting you, a *RWER* subscriber, to join. The WEA membership is free, and I have *two incentives* to motivate you to give the two or three minutes that it takes to join. Firstly, you will receive WEA periodicals free of charge. The WEA already publishes three journals (with print copies soon to be available). It also publishes a substantial bi-monthly newsletter, holds online conferences, and has a rapidly growing network of national chapters. Membership will give you immediate access to all this, including email notifications. The covers of the current issues of WEA periodicals are *pictured below*. Secondly, you will be helping a good and important cause. It is now commonly recognized that humanity is ill-served by the economics profession as currently constituted, and that the primacy of the one nation over a global professional focus is both absurd and unjust. The WEA exists to overcome these deficiencies. By joining the WEA and donating your two or three minutes you will be helping it achieve these goals. Fwd: [Networkedlabour] The Dynamics of Virtual Work: The Transformation of Labour in a Digital Global Economy

---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Örsan Şenalp <orsan1234(a)gmail.com> Date: Wed, Apr 16, 2014 at 2:52 PM Subject: [Networkedlabour] The Dynamics of Virtual Work: The Transformation of Labour in a Digital Global Economy To: "networkedlabour(a)lists.contrast.org" <networkedlabour(a)lists.contrast.org > Sponsored by COST (European Co-operation in Science and Technology), Work Organisation Labour and Globalisation, Competition and Change and Triple C To be held at the University of Hertfordshire, UK, September 3-5, 2014 Download the programme - http://visitor.benchmarkemail.com/c/l?u=3594DBD&e=46960E&c=14F0F&t=0&l=6129… Register now - http://visitor.benchmarkemail.com/c/l?u=3595029&e=46960E&c=14F0F&t=0&l=6129… Globalisation and technological change have transformed where people work, when and how. Digitisation of information has altered labour processes out of all recognition whilst telecommunications have enabled jobs to be relocated globally. But ICTs have also enabled the creation of entirely new types of ‘digital’ or ‘virtual’ labour, both paid and unpaid, shifting the borderline between ‘play’ and ‘work’ and creating new types of unpaid labour connected with the consumption and co-creation of goods and services. The implications of this are far-reaching, both for policy and for scholarship. The dynamics of these changes cannot be captured adequately within the framework of any single academic discipline. On the contrary, they can only be understood in the light of a combination of insights from fields including political economy, the sociology of work, organisational theory, economic geography, development studies, industrial relations, comparative social policy, communications studies, technology policy and gender studies COST Action IS1202 brings together an international network of leading experts from 30 European Countries with researchers from other parts of the world to develop a multi-faceted approach to understanding these phenomena. This international conference will open up an interactive dialogue between scholars both inside and outside the network and will include both theoretical and empirical work. Themes include: The new international division of labour Changes in skills and occupational identities in the digital economy Value creation in the Internet Age Policy implications of virtual work. _______________________________________________ NetworkedLabour mailing list NetworkedLabour(a)lists.contrast.org http://lists.contrast.org/mailman/listinfo/networkedlabour -- *Please note an intrusion wiped out my inbox on February 8; I have no record of previous communication, proposals, etc ..* P2P Foundation: http://p2pfoundation.net - http://blog.p2pfoundation.net <http://lists.ourproject.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/p2p-foundation>Updates: http://twitter.com/mbauwens; http://www.facebook.com/mbauwens #82 on the (En)Rich list: http://enrichlist.org/the-complete-list/

The article explores narrative’s dimensions as a tool for filling the gap between anticipation and action, and comments on the tellability of future and why narrative has great potential. It concludes with an emphasis the importance of taking into account the different views and languages of the copartners and close with the idea that, that futures studies should be deliberative, negotiation based, in order to bridge the gap. Creating Alternative Selves: The Use of Futures Discourse in Narrative Therapy<http://tku.us6.list-manage.com/track/click?u=c90dad18600a6cf46664a2d58&id=3…> By Ivana Milojević This article focuses on the field of narrative therapy which emerged in the 1990s, and investigates the use of futures discourse within it. Narrative therapy in psychology focuses on helping individuals to move away from unhelpful and distressing storytelling and towards new stories that shape their identities and relationships in line with the possibilities of desired presents and futures. The article therefore analyses the explicit and implicit use of futures discourse in narrative therapy, and investigates connections between narrative therapy and futures studies. It concludes by suggesting the strengthening of these connections by proposing futures studies practitioners further learn from narrative therapists and vice versa. Untangling Teachers’ Images of Their Futures Through Their Responses to the Futures Narratives of Children<http://tku.us6.list-manage.com/track/click?u=c90dad18600a6cf46664a2d58&id=a…> By Debra Bateman A significant amount of research has been undertaken exploring individuals’ images of a future. What often remains uninterrogated are the ways in which others’ respond to these images of a future, as they are articulated through narrative discourses. This paper, then, seeks to address this void through the presentation of research which considers the ways that teachers’ perceptions of ‘the future’ are consolidated and challenged, as they work with children in a classroom setting. Tales of Our Tomorrows: Transmedia Storytelling and Communicating About the Future<http://tku.us6.list-manage.com/track/click?u=c90dad18600a6cf46664a2d58&id=a…> By Peter von Stackelberg and Ruth Eira Jones Foresight professionals and the futures field as a whole faces a series of challenges in communicating about the future. Simply presenting data and having a “rational” discussion is not enough to shape perceptions about the future and move people to action. The rapid evolution of digital media technology and the emergence of transmedia storytelling present foresight professionals with a powerful new approach for communicating about the future. Transmedia storytelling is the use of multiple media – graphic novels, video clips on YouTube, blogs, Twitter, and enhanced e-books, for example – to tell one or more related stories set within a common storyworld. This article outlines some of the key principles of transmedia storytelling in order to provide a basic framework that foresight professionals can use when designing transmedia projects. Narrative Rhetorics in Scenario Work: Sensemaking and Translation<http://tku.us6.list-manage.com/track/click?u=c90dad18600a6cf46664a2d58&id=9…> By Zhan Li With Jerome Bruner and Walter Fisher’s work on narrative as a starting point, this article presents a narrative-based approach to theory-building for scenarios—relevant for futures narratives broadly defined—that conceives of them as sensemaking and rhetorical efforts for organizations that seek to catalyze decision and action through futures work. The organizational sensemaking theories of Karl Weick are combined with the rhetorical and narrative perspective of Actor-Network-Theory from which the key concept of ‘translation’ is drawn. Essays Extending the Scenario Horizon: Putting Narratives to Work<http://tku.us6.list-manage.com/track/click?u=c90dad18600a6cf46664a2d58&id=c…> By Marcus Bussey Postcards as Doorways<http://tku.us6.list-manage.com/track/click?u=c90dad18600a6cf46664a2d58&id=0…> By Andrew Curry and Victoria Ward Reports The Challenges of Living Scenarios for Australia in 2050<http://tku.us6.list-manage1.com/track/click?u=c90dad18600a6cf46664a2d58&id=…> By Kristin Alford, Steven Cork, John Finnigan, Nicky Grigg, Beth Fulton & Michael Raupauch The Journal of Futures Studies is a publication of Tamkang University, Taiwan, supported by the Graduate Institute of Futures Studies. On the contrary, they can only be understood in the light of a combination of insights from fields including political economy, the sociology of work, organisational theory, economic geography, development studies, industrial relations, comparative social policy, communications studies, technology policy and gender studies COST Action IS1202<http://visitor.benchmarkemail.com/c/l?u=3594DC3&e=46960E&c=14F0F&t=0&l=6129…>brings together an international network of leading experts from 30 European Countries with researchers from other parts of the world to develop a multi-faceted approach to understanding these phenomena. This international conference will open up an interactive dialogue between scholars both inside and outside the network and will include both theoretical and empirical work. Themes include: *The new international division of labour* *Changes in skills and occupational identities in the digital economy* *Value creation in the Internet Age* *Policy implications of virtual work*. *For more information <http://visitor.benchmarkemail.com/c/l?u=3594DC4&e=46960E&c=14F0F&t=0&l=6129…>**T <http://visitor.benchmarkemail.com/c/l?u=3594DC5&e=46960E&c=14F0F&t=0&l=6129…>o follow us on twitter <http://visitor.benchmarkemail.com/c/l?u=3594DC5&e=46960E&c=14F0F&t=0&l=6129…>* This message was sent to michelsub2004(a)gmail.com by costIS1202(a)herts.ac.uk Unsubscribe<http://visitor.benchmarkemail.com/c/su?e=46960E&c=14F0F&l=6129DA3&email=Nlw…>| Manage Subscription<http://visitor.benchmarkemail.com/c/s?e=46960E&c=14F0F&l=6129DA3&email=Nlw1…>| Forward Email<http://visitor.benchmarkemail.com/c/f?e=46960E&c=14F0F&l=6129DA3&email=Nlw1…>| Report Abuse<http://visitor.benchmarkemail.com/Abuse?e=46960E&c=14F0F&l=6129DA3&email=Nl…> <http://www.benchmarkemail.com/sign-up/email?utm_source=cus-foot&utm_medium=…> University of Hertfordshire, Hatfield, AL10 9AB, UK -- *Please note an intrusion wiped out my inbox on February 8; I have no record of previous communication, proposals, etc ..* P2P Foundation: http://p2pfoundation.net - http://blog.p2pfoundation.net <http://lists.ourproject.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/p2p-foundation>Updates: http://twitter.com/mbauwens; http://www.facebook.com/mbauwens #82 on the (En)Rich list: http://enrichlist.org/the-complete-list/
