Fwd: [talk] Monsanto to Receive Nobel Prize!

---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Niels Corfield <mudguard(a)gmail.com> Date: Tue, Oct 8, 2013 at 12:08 PM Subject: [talk] Monsanto to Receive Nobel Prize! To: talk(a)leedspermaculturenetwork.org Friends, In an obscene development, a Monsanto executive is winning this year’s 'Nobel Prize of agriculture' -- the prestigious World Food Prize -- for creating GMOs. Receiving it legitimizes the sort of rampant genetic modification Monsanto pioneered, and helps validate a ruthless business model that impoverishes farmers and monopolizes our food. If that wasn't baffling enough, the founder of Syngenta, the same biotech giant joining Bayer in suing Europe to keep selling bee-killing pesticides, will also win the prize. The ceremony is in less than two weeks, so we need to act now. Please join me in tell the World Food Prize Foundation not to reward Monsanto and bee-killer Syngenta’s outrageous practices. http://action.sumofus.org/a/**world-food-prize-monsanto-**syngenta/?sub=mtle<http://action.sumofus.org/a/world-food-prize-monsanto-syngenta/?sub=mtle> Thank you. ______________________________**_________________ This email is sent to all subscribers of the LPN e-mailing list. Fwd: FKI Board strengthened with two new members
by Michel Bauwens 07 Oct '13

---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Announcements of the Free Knowledge Institute < fki-announce(a)freeknowledge.eu> Date: Thu, Sep 5, 2013 at 1:59 PM Subject: FKI Board strengthened with two new members To: fki-announce(a)freeknowledge.eu Permanent URL: http://freeknowledge.eu/announce_1309 FKI Board strengthened with two new members The Free Knowledge Institute is proud to welcome two new members to its Board: Joe Corneli and Marco Fioretti. Both have been active community members within the free knowledge - free technology community. Both bring in new energy, large networks, ideas and initiatives that are expected to strengthen the Free Knowledge community. Joe Corneli is finalising his PhD at the Open University UK on the topic of "Peer Produced Peer Learning", which he calls "paragogy" for short. The main case study in his thesis deals with rebuilding the free/open mathematics reference website, PlanetMath.org as a mathematics learning environment. These ideas have informed his involvement with FKI and are built upon within the Peeragogy project. Joe is working on new designs for funding work at the Free Knowledge Institute. Early discussions are developing into plans for a Free Knowledge Incubator: stay tuned. Marco Fioretti is an Italian long time activist, freelance writer and trainer of open standards, Free Software, digital technologies and the their relation and impact on education, ethics, civil rights and environmental issues. Marco has been one of the tutors within the Free Technology Academy and will continue to do so. His first commitment as Board member is to lead the reform of the FTA course programme. Marco: "We already have several educational methodologies, from peer learning to master level courses, and we already started to discuss other course ideas to propose in the near future. Besides participating to the definition of those new course types, my first task in the FKI will be to define the course calendar for the 2013 Fall/Winter period, and to communicate it to the widest possible community." Their track record shows a strong commitment to free knowledge and the values shared at the Free Knowledge Institute. The founding Board members of the foundation - Hinde ten Berge, David Jacovkis and Wouter Tebbens - remain active in the FKI Board. The expansion of the Board is an outcome of the Strategy process started in 2012. ### About the FKI The Free Knowledge Institute (FKI) promotes free knowledge in all its forms. Its mission is to empower people in the fields of free knowledge and free technology to help them become effective participants of a free knowledge society. The FKI is a hub connecting networks and communities in multiple domains facilitating and enabling the study, sharing and collaborative development of free knowledge and free technologies. The aim is to provide equal access to production and sharing of knowledge. We work towards this aim together with local and global actors. One of the core activities of the FKI is the Free Technology Academy, an online study programme and virtual campus based in free knowledge, free technology and different educational models, ranging from p2p learning to master level courses. ### About Marco Fioretti Marco is a freelance writer, popularizer, activist and teacher specialised in open digital standards, Free Software, digital technologies and their impacts on education, ethics, civil rights, environmental issues and, in general, everyday life. His slogan is "your civil rights and the quality of your life depend on how software is used AROUND you". Marco has been using Free Software daily for all his activities since the mid 90's, when he was an ASIC and FPGA designer. Full bio and main publications: http://mfioretti.com ### About Joe Corneli Joseph Corneli is a Ph. D. student at the Knowledge Media Institute of The Open University, UK, where he does research on how people learn mathematics. He is also a member of the board of directors of the US-based nonprofit, PlanetMath.org. link to full bio: http://wiki.planetmath.org/cgi-bin/wiki.pl/Joseph_A._Corneli ### Further References * About the Free Knowledge Institute: http://freeknowledge.eu/about * Free Technology Academy: http://ftacademy.org/ * PlanetMath: http://planetmath.org * The Peeragogy project: http://peeragogy.org _______________________________________________ FKI-announce mailing list http://mail.freeknowledge.eu/mailman/listinfo/fki-announce To unsubscribe send a message to: fki-announce-leave(a)freeknowledge.eu For more info: http://freeknowledge.eu -- P2P Foundation: http://p2pfoundation.net - http://blog.p2pfoundation.net <http://lists.ourproject.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/p2p-foundation>Updates: http://twitter.com/mbauwens; http://www.facebook.com/mbauwens #82 on the (En)Rich list: http://enrichlist.org/the-complete-list/

Fwd: The essential impact of the "Conceptology of Learning and Leading at Work".
by Michel Bauwens 07 Oct '13

---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Rune Kvist Olsen <rukvol(a)online.no> Date: Mon, Oct 7, 2013 at 6:50 PM Subject: The essential impact of the "Conceptology of Learning and Leading at Work". To: michelsub2004(a)gmail.com *Hi You All!* * * ** ** The paper “*A Conceptology of Learning and Leading at Work*” is now completed and ready for reviewing/announcing/posting/publishing.**** ** ** The purpose with the “*Conceptology of Learning and Leading at Work*” is to construct and establish an alternative belief system that would entitle everyone in the workplace the same conditions and access of mutual trust and personal freedom. The intention is to advocate the values and standards of health, liberty, dignity and equality as common principles applied for all the people involved. In challenging the mainstream and contemporary belief system in organizing, leading and managing work and people (granting only a few and someone these principles exclusively), the effort behind this new attempt of intervention was aimed at developing a real alternative option of choice by creating an entirely new way of structuring power in organizing, leading and managing the process of work. **** ** ** An appropriate perspective in reviewing the significance of the “*Conceptology of Learning and Leading at Work*”, could be by assessing the article “*The Myth of Executive Stress*” by Keith Payne. This article is presenting relevant research studies within the field of leading and managing people. Some of the core findings reported is that leaders are showing substantially lower levels of stress than non-leaders caused by their superior position and supreme power in managing other people and leading people below. The implication of being managed and led from others above is the lack of control. The result of being controlled is higher blood pressure, lowered immune function and stress-related diseases. When the stress response is activated for months at a time, it is toxic as Payne is stating. The concluding statement is; “*Control is the essence of power, the linchpin binding status to stress*”. In this perspective the alternative “*Conceptology of Learning and Leading at Work*” is raised as the counterpart to the belief system of leadership with leaders above and non-leaders below, and represents an alternative option of choice in moving from the mantra of “*leadership for someone*” to “*leadingship for everyone*”. **** ** ** Everyone in the workplace should be entitled the principles of trust and freedom as common privileges concerning health, liberty, equality and dignity at work. In the history of management the Conceptology of “*Humanology*” and “*Humanability*” is granting everyone the equal access to personal control with none above and below in a chain of command and none in charge of anyone else.**** ** ** The links to the articles and the research studies are:**** ** ** http://www.scientificamerican.com/article.cfm?id=the-myth-of-executive-str&… **** ** ** http://www.pnas.org/content/early/2012/09/19/1207042109.full.pdf+html**** ** ** https://faculty.fuqua.duke.edu/~ack23/Publications%20PDFs/Compensatory%20Co… **** ** ** ** ** Please enjoy the attached paper and let the Conceptology make a difference and become a real option of choice in organizational life!
