Fwd: "Business Ecosystems"
by Michel Bauwens 18 Sep '11

18 Sep '11

---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Dante-Gabryell Monson <dante.monson(a)gmail.com> Date: Mon, Sep 19, 2011 at 12:05 AM Subject: "Business Ecosystems" To: econowmix(a)googlegroups.com http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Business_ecosystems ( also see : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Value_network ) Moore defined "business ecosystem" as: “An economic community supported by a foundation of interacting organizations and individuals—the organisms of the business world. The economic community produces goods and services of value to customers, who are themselves members of the ecosystem. The member organisms also include suppliers, lead producers, competitors, and other stakeholders. Over time, they coevolve <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coevolve> their capabilities and roles, and tend to align themselves with the directions set by one or more central companies. Those companies holding leadership roles may change over time, but the function of ecosystem leader is valued by the community because it enables members to move toward shared visions to align their investments, and to find mutually supportive roles.”[2]<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Business_ecosystems#cite_note-1> Moore used several ecological metaphors, suggesting that the firm is embedded in a (business) environment, that it needs to coevolve with other companies, and that “the particular niche<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ecological_niche> a business occupies is challenged by newly arriving species.”[3]<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Business_ecosystems#cite_note-2> This meant that companies need to become proactive in developing mutually beneficial ("symbiotic <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Symbiotic>") relationships with customers, suppliers, and even competitors. -- P2P Foundation: http://p2pfoundation.net - http://blog.p2pfoundation.net Connect: http://p2pfoundation.ning.com; Discuss: http://lists.ourproject.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/p2p-foundation Updates: http://del.icio.us/mbauwens; http://friendfeed.com/mbauwens; http://twitter.com/mbauwens; http://www.facebook.com/mbauwens

http://gameful.org/ http://blog.avantgame.com/2010/08/gameful-secret-hq-for-worldchanging.html Gameful <http://gameful.org/> is an online "Secret HQ" where you can connect with other people who believe in the power of games to make us better and change the world. It will be a free resource -- a place for you to: - Set up a profile sharing your expertise, skills, abilities, and interests - Search the network for collaborators and talent - Spread the word about your new projects - Meet journalists who want to write about interesting games or research like yours - Find new and cutting-edge game projects to inspire you - Join a Gameful book club and discuss big ideas - Join a Gameful game club and play big ideas! - Brainstorm and submit conference panels or sessions together - Plan Gameful meet-ups at conferences and festivals - Nominate your own work, or work you love, for the annual Gameful Awards (in the categories of Reality-Changing, Life-Changing, and World-Changing) OUR PLAN We’ve already assembled our core team of developers and designers to make this project happen and we’re aiming to launch at 10:28:10 AM on 10/28/10 (October 28, 2010). We’ve already designed the site; all we need is to raise enough operating costs to make sure that we can afford to code and launch the site, round up some awesome interns, and make a great experience for everyone who joins.

What does this say about the Economics Profession?
by robert searle 17 Sep '11

17 Sep '11

What does this say about the Economics Profession? It is interesting to point the following people who were essentially autodidacts as far as economic education is concerned. John Maynard Keynes apparently had no degree in economics but was allowed to teach it at Cambridge.... ... Karl Marx was ofcourse self-taught on this subject.... Lous Kelso founder of Binary Economics did not have an economics degree..... Clifford Douglas creator of Social Credit did not have an economics degree...... Hazel Henderson who is a well-known futurist economist (who also knew Edward Fullbrook apparently !) also does not have an economics degree..... There are probably others which are not listed...including myself I am proud to say...Incidently , Hazel finds my project on Transfinancial Economics of great interest, and has been following its evolution......
