Crowd Control: Funding Freedom in Closed-Loop Production Aggregates
by Patrick Anderson 15 Jul '11

15 Jul '11

This hybrid approach uses Imputed Production at it's core with optional funding from traditional Venture Capital. ---- * Potential users pre-pay to fund the purchase of land and capital to form a vertically integrated, permaculture based system we call a Production Aggregate. * This Aggregate is a set of carefully chosen plants, animals and tools required to create the solutions needed by all of those workers such as food/drugs, shelter, cloth, soap, sanitation, health care, dental, eyes, etc. * If a payer has skills needed by the Aggregate, they can contract to work somewhere within the Aggregate in exchange for the Aggregate supplying them with Products they need. * Those workers receive co-ownership in the Aggregate in a form we call "Use Shares" which are similar to full co- ownership, but with some initial limitations on selling or renting those Tools or Products. * Use Shares are used by the holder to prove that he has the right to use the Tools (limited by schedule) or consume some of the Products (limited by % of holdings within that Unit) of any restaurant, apartment, bus, hospital, etc. operating within the Aggregate. * The workers do not buy products from the investors, but own those products already because of their Use Shares in the Aggregate awarded for commitments to Work or from commitments of Land or Capital. * After some amount of time, or after some series of events the Use Shares should vest more fully to the payer to allow for selling and/or renting of those Sources or the Products of those Sources. * Initial stages of development might have some workers living in mobile homes and eating food the Aggregate bought in bulk. * Later, after the agriculture is installed and producing, the system will become "self hosted", being able to operate without requiring any external inputs. * Soon afterward, the system will be producing surplus that can be sold to outsiders to collect Profit. * If Venture Capitalists helped fund the operation, part of the Profit will be used as their ROI. * We may want to distribute part of the Profit to the Workers, since that is a popular thing to do. * We may we to distribute part of the Profit to random charities, since that is a popular thing to do. * But we MUST handle some non-zero % of the Profits as though that overpayment were an investment from the payer. * We should charge Profit during those sales, for if we don't collect the Profit, a middle-man will buy all that we offer at Cost, and then resell it for a Profit anyway... * So we will charge Profit against the Payer, but we will also treat (at least part of) that magic value as Payer Investment. * This causes these late-coming users to slowly gain ownership and therefore to eventually stop buying that product too. * Similar to how the GNU GPL enforces Copyleft through Copyright, we propose to create a PropertyLeft document enforced through Property Rights used to apply this requirement to the Aggregate. * This social contract can be applied by co-owners of any material assets to insure freedom for all users. * Notice this is also a literal form of Insurance. * These users must cover all the real cost of production just as any owners do, but they do not buy the product since they own it already - and they don't sell the product because they need to use it directly. * The product is not traded unless there is surplus, and in that case the Payer must cover all the Costs of that production so the owner of Sources can be compensated for paying when they didn't need to... * The Payer will usually also pay Profit, according to how much the "market will bear". Some % of that overpayment must be treated as an investment from that payer so the growth of the Aggregate is incrementally autodistributed to all those willing to pay for that growth. * At some point, and under certain constraints, and mostly to resolve disputes, subgroups must finally be allowed to fork from the rest while retaining property ownership.

Re: [P2P-F] DEBT: THE FIRST FIVE THOUSAND YEARS (!!!) - it's real! it's a book and you can hold it in your hands

Dear David, As you perhaps know, we have a book of the week program on the p2p foundation blog, and I would like to feature your important book there, THis would require a general presentation followed by 2 significant abstracts, to be published on alternate days on a given week, If you agree, we would need some of that material, Michel On Wed, Jul 13, 2011 at 10:03 AM, David Graeber <david.graeber(a)mac.com>wrote: > > > Greetings, Everyone I've Ever Met, > > I can't believe I'd ever finally get to say this but - DEBT: THE FIRST FIVE > THOUSAND YEARS, is out! > > (And if you don't believe it - below are some bits culled from today's > Amazon Web Page:) > > > This is a work of scholarship, and politically engaged, but it's also an > attempt to break out of the usual academic and activist ghettoes, and I > wrote it that way because I think that there's a conversation we need to be > having, not just nationally but also globally, that we began to have for a > few months after the financial crash of 2008, and which has, since, been > indefinitely postponed. Fwd: The Arab Tyrant Manual, campaign for shorter working day ...
by Michel Bauwens 15 Jul '11

---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: <orsan(a)tie-netherlands.nl> Date: Wed, Jul 6, 2011 at 8:28 PM Subject: Re: The Arab Tyrant Manual To: Michel Bauwens <michelsub2004(a)gmail.com> Cc: Amaia Arcos <amaia.arcos(a)googlemail.com> If you consider spreading the below message and joining the eforrts that would be great! hasta la victoria! Dear comrades, peers, #Real Democracy, Ja! is a very clear and strong demand. However it needs to be accompanied with a strong call for globally accepted 4 Hour Work Day as a more realistic response to the crisis of capital. This would allow us to push the anonymous and globally spreading 'take the square' and 'real democracy, now!' movements that are building on the meme of Tahrir en Puerto del sol squares! Therefore, in order to harmonize rising core and common demands against the global capitalist system, its global crisis and for a real democracy across the world, as GAIA peerage, we are intended to reply the call for a year long p2p dissent, starting from 11th nov. 2011, 11:11 am. Our strategy is an open one and would be as follows: - Pushing established trade unions to mobilize [and change] as well as encouraging other forces, movements, activists and hactivists to link their actions, strikes, hacks around the several shared key demands, which every forces would subscribe themselves without thinking. Immediate implementation of 4 hour work day, free and open internet, decommodification of the commons and public/social services, a radical decrease of carbon emission globally, direct access to policy making for everybody are some of these core demands we can hold on altogether. - Since they won't give these demands immediately, the best way to move forward would be following what the Italian water justice movement have been doing: We need to create widest alliancess on common issues and invite people's assembles to write universal laws on their respective fields, i.e. by using wiki processes. Then we will need the year long dissent, to push the people's p2p laws forward transnationally and peacefully . Multi-party-Computation Cryptography. Why it is important..
by Apostolis Xekoukoulotakis 15 Jul '11

15 Jul '11

I have found this kind of cryptography recently and I thought you might like it. (As always, no warranties) What is MPC? Participants - peers agree to evaluate a specific function. They will give their data and each one of them will receive part of the evaluation. One's data and results are kept private from the others. No one can cheat, Noone can try to change the rules without the others agreeing. This is called an Ideal Functionality. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Universal_composability#Ideal_functionality In its essence, it emulates the existence of a trusted party - Government that enforces that participants abide by the rules. How does this change the way we design new economic alternatives? 1. We can create economic alternatives that are based on the fact that all information is known. Today each and every corporation withholds information from the general public. 2. If a) We create an economic system based on a function that if not used will have important economic loses for that person. b) the function we use doesnt deteriorate the states of the other participants if someone sends false data.(while abiding by the rules) then any rules participants agree to will be enforcable. What are the changes, again? We can create an imaginary economic system and we dont have to worry any more about corrupt governments, institutions etc. Whatever the societal structures might be created, they will not be able to be corrupted in such a way as to deviate from the rules of the function. Why is MPC important ,again? We should stop trying to make small changes because we find it difficult to 'enforce' them. We should start thinking big. Lets start by rejecting anything we knew till now.
