Please take a moment to "like" the facebook page for the National Coalition for Dialogue & Deliberation at http//www.facebook.com/ncddpage if you haven't already. Facebook is phasing out its groups that use the old groups format, and that includes the NCDD group! This breaks my heart a little, because we have built up a group over the past few years with nearly 2,300 members (very big for our field!), and have used the group to host all kinds of discussions, events, photos, etc. Facebook isn't revealing much, but they are saying that after the group is "archived," the members of your old group will "not be available." Yikes! I wanted to alert everyone right away because there's no indication of when the group will be "archived." A few months ago I created a Facebook PAGE for NCDD, since pages do have more functionality overall, and I encourage all of you to take a second to "like" the page at http//www.facebook.com/ncddpage so we can keep in touch. I'm sure we will build up the page with great discussions, upcoming regional events, photos, news from you guys, and more. For now, the page is a very useful resource in and of itself because I've been using it to follow dozens of our members' blogs on dialogue, deliberation, and public engagement. So there's good stuff there -- just not much interaction or many fans (yet). Thanks for being part of the NCDD Facebook group over the years, and hope to see you on the NCDD page! This Sunday, May 8th, Central Hotel, Dublin (afternoon and evening events)* *An Introduction to peer-to-peer* Wikipedia and Linux are impressive examples of intellectual labour created on and through the internet but they don't fit conventional economic theory as the people who developed and refined them did not charge for their work and there is no charge for their use. No corporation organised their creation and claimed ownership rights. Are these examples of a new type of economy which has a lot further to go? Will open source product design underpin a new type of creative economy in which some things will be available in abundance mostly for free? Are we witnessing the birth of a digital commons where intellectual property rights like copyright and patents are standing in the way of human progress? Theorist Michel Bauwens and the P2P foundation believes so. In his view we are entering an economic era as profoundly different as feudalism was from the Roman Empire, and industrial capitalism was from feudalism. But is the future he envisa ges compati ble with the ecological limits that humanity is encountering in almost every field? *14.00 – 17.00 Workshop on peer-to-peer with Michel Bauwens.* Attendance will be limited to 15. Dear Stephen, though I very much like and support your project, I'm really so overwhelmed with lists already that I have to pass, I'm forwarding the info on our p2p list, in case others want to join up, Michel ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: <immiireland-request(a)lists.immi.is> Date: Fri, May 6, 2011 at 9:11 PM Subject: confirm 23d8e6bbcb25936f54bc7b981205fd3256464d40 To: michel(a)p2pfoundation.net Hi, My name is Stephen Lacy, we've met at some stage and most likely talked about politics, philosophy and/or religion. Well last weekend Smari Mc Carthy started a conversation about how much protection there is for journalism. Here, IMMI Ireland, is where that conversation led us. We are still just talking but with your help we can start doing. Please subscribe to the list and suggest it to any of your friends that might also be interested in discussing the subject. For more concrete information on what IMMI is have a look at the website http://www.immi.is Stephen LacyYour address "michel(a)p2pfoundation.net" has been invited to join the IMMIIreland mailing list at lists.immi.is by the IMMIIreland mailing list owner. Dear Joe, I just saw http://www.chaoticripple.com/2011/open-source-solution/. I wonder if you'd not be interested to present your shared ownership ideas to our p2p blog audience (we're a top 2% globally retweeted blog according to topsy), I'm thinking of an article that more directly addresses the specifics of shared ownership, and a bit shorter than the above one, for info, see http://p2pfoundation.net/Category:Peerproperty, Michel -- P2P Foundation: http://p2pfoundation.net - http://blog.p2pfoundation.net Connect: http://p2pfoundation.ning.com; Discuss: http://lists.ourproject.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/p2p-foundation Updates: http://del.icio.us/mbauwens; http://friendfeed.com/mbauwens; http://twitter.com/mbauwens; http://www.facebook.com/mbauwens
