Whoa. You should really stop talking. You have NO idea what you're talking about. How about forced acculturation, not allowing them to speak their own language (which hold the record of their own history), confined them under threat of violent force into reservations, among other things. But, really, that's probably not even the worst of it -- the worst of it is that for reasons they couldn't ever understand is why you were doing all of these cruel things when they were willing to share it it all with you. Why, when they handed out their hand to be friends, you chopped it off. Remember, they're the ones who gave us Thanksgiving which is still "celebrated" in this nation today. Read the reports made of making first contact with the Native peoples here. You really should read up before propagating the attitudes of conquest. Fwd: Creating stable money to avoid financial crises and reduce climate change
by Michel Bauwens 29 Aug '17

---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Shann Turnbull <sturnbull(a)mba1963.hbs.edu> Date: Tue, Aug 29, 2017 at 4:44 PM Subject: Creating stable money to avoid financial crises and reduce climate change To: Michael Mainelli <michael_mainelli(a)zyen.com> Dear Michael Many thanks for publishing my article on how to create stable money to establish a more efficient and crisis free financial system at: http://www.longfinance.net/news/long-finance-blogs/1094-should-money-have-a- stable-predicable-value.html I hope it can be used by those making presentations on how to avoid another financial crisis and especially those responsible for safeguarding the financial system. In my message below to the International Accountant Standards Board (IASB) I have invited their chairman Hans Hoogervorst to establish global standards of value. This is suggested in my article to sustain the environment and humanity on the planet in perpetuity. To achieve this objective the units of value established for each bioregion would be determined by how efficiently electrical power can be generated from benign renewal resources and the degree to which they are used in relation to non-renewable and/or non-benign sources. My vision for a sustainable society and how to get there is posted at: http://www. ecologicalcitizen.net/article.php?t=vision-ecocentric-society-how-get-there A unit of value established independently of the financial system could not be directly affected by trade, investment or financial crises. Instead, uncertainty would be reduced to promote trade and investment on a basis that promoted sustainable wellbeing of humanity in each bioregion. Its adoption could reduce and/or eliminate the need for carbon taxing and/or trading. I am using this message to promote the proposal with parties interested in monetary matters who may have an interest in encouraging the IASB to act sooner rather than later. Let the IASB know with a message to info(a)ifrs.org <info(a)ifrc.org>. For those not familiar with the “Long Finance” web page it is an initiative of the addressee - Alderman Professor Michael Mainelli. Michael founded Long Finance in 2005 in partnership with Gresham College, the City of London Corporation and forty financial institutions. The Long Finance web page is hosted by Z/Yen, a commercial “ Think Tank” that Michael co-founded with Ian Harris. The webpage accepts feedback to be posted on its articles. I would be pleased to meet any interested parties in London during my visit from September 4th to 14th. With my best wishes and thanks Shann Begin forwarded message: *From: *Shann Turnbull <sturnbull(a)mba1963.hbs.edu> *Subject: **Determine standard units of value?* *Date: *25 August 2017 at 11:32:09 pm AEST *To: *Lynn Wood <lynnwood(a)ozemail.com.au> *Cc: *hhoogervorst(a)ifrs.org Dear Lynn As a Trustee of the IFRS Foundation might you and your other Foundation colleagues care to encourage the IASB to more comprehensively and meaningfully further its mission to promote “long-term financial stability in the global economy” by establishing standard units of value that could: - Create much greater certainty for investors, especially internationally; - Avoid and/or mitigate financial instability; - Promote trade as arises from standard of weights and measures; - Reduce and/or eliminate the need for carbon taxing or trading; - Improve the integrity and relevance of other accounting standards for international firms? You may recall that I initially made the suggestion for a standard unit of value to Hans Hoogervost in Sydney on April 10th, 2014 and to his then Vice Chair Ian MacIntosh in London on July 2, 2014. I followed up my conversation with both of them with an e-mail the following day with a copy to yourself. At that time I was advised by your IASB colleagues that establishing standard units of value raised very challenging difficulties. However, since that time I believe the matter has now become practical because of the emerging ”Internet of Things”. Details are set out in my article: ‘Should money have a stable predicable value?’ *Long Finance*, Thursday, 24 August 2017 12:49 posted at:< http://www.longfinance.net/news/long-finance-blogs/1094-should-money-have-a- stable-predicable-value.html <http://www.longfinance.net/news/long-finance-blogs/1094-should-money-have-a…>>. My article refers to my contact with members of the IASB in 2014. Public feedback can be made on the webpage. For your convenience my article is also attached. I look forward to your feedback in due course. I depart for Rome next Friday and arrive in London Sept. 4th. I depart London for Sydney via Utrecht on Sept.14 in case any of your London colleagues may care to discuss the matter further in person? Fwd: [bgcon] SIGNALS – an Exhibition of the Snowden Files in Art, Media and Archives
by Michel Bauwens 29 Aug '17

29 Aug '17

---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Krystian Woznicki <kw(a)berlinergazette.de> Date: Tue, Aug 29, 2017 at 5:02 PM Subject: [bgcon] SIGNALS – an Exhibition of the Snowden Files in Art, Media and Archives To: digi-yards(a)berlinergazette.de Hi, the Berliner Gazette (BG) has worked on the Snowden disclosures from the very beginning. We have launched several critical interventions under the motto 'Snowden Commons' that are intended to explore and expand the democratic potential of the disclosures. Now we can move a step further: Today a critical mass of artists is working with the Snowden Files and it is through such works that we can reflect the long term consequences of the post-9/11 War on Terror in full complexity. So we are happy to annouce "SIGNALS – an Exhibition of the Snowden Files in Art, Media and Archives" taking place September 12-26, 2017 in Berlin. Please read and share the info below. ----------- SIGNALS – an Exhibition of the Snowden Files in Art, Media and Archives September 12-26, 2017 | DIAMONDPAPER Studio | Köpenicker Straße 96 | Berlin www.berlinergazette.de/signals SIGNALS is the first project to critically engage with artists responding to the NSA-files leaked by whistleblower Edward Snowden. Considering the most relevant contexts in which the files have 'surfaced' (including media and archives), it reflects on how artists are deploying the files as raw material. With contributions by Zeljko Blace (CRO), Andrew Clement (CAN), Naomi Colvin (GBR), Simon Denny (NZL), Christoph Hochhäusler (GER), Evan Light (CAN), Geert Lovink (NED), M.C. McGrath (USA), Henrik Moltke (DEN), Deborah Natsios (USA), Julian Oliver (NZL), Trevor Paglen (USA), Laura Poitras (USA), Norman Posselt (GER), SAZAE bot (JPN), Stefan Tiron (ROU), University of the Phoenix (CAN), Andi Weiland (GER), Maria Xynou (ESP), John Young (USA) and more. The title of the project takes its cue from the special language used by intelligence agencies: they refer to any communication that takes place within society as a 'signal', and they collect and analyze these 'signals' on a massive scale. The exhibition translates this special language into the language of culture, where the world is coded and decoded in the form of 'signals' shaped by political and economic contexts. *Idea of the exhibition* The exhibition is partitioned into two sections: frontend and backend. These terms designate on the one hand computerized user interfaces, on the other data bases which reside behind the interfaces. The latter, the backend, structures the possibilities of the frontend, e.g. by monitoring all interactions and by using that data to optimize and predict future uses. All of this remains unaccessible and opaque to users. The exhibition turns the tables on these conditions and complicates them. The exhibition program is complemented with talks, performances and workshops as well as two publications that extend the dialectical frontend/backend narrative of the exhibition. *Background* The Snowden disclosures have triggered debates on democracy, civil rights, the internet and intelligence agencies all around the world. These debates have led to a number of political changes, including negative ones: e.g., consolidating the delusion of cyber-security. Meanwhile, the documents that triggered the debates remain arcane for the general public, as well as for many experts. And it is not ensured that the documents will be preserved for posterity or for those writing our history. The SIGNALS project takes this problem as its starting point and situates the historic leak in the context of civic appropriation. Foregrounded are artists who test the files as material and, by creating works, transform them into commons. More info: www.berlinergazette.de/signals *Events* and *Books* The exhibition program is complemented with talks, performances and workshops (see dates below) as well as two publications that extend the dialectical frontend/backend narrative of the exhibition. "A Field Guide to the Snowden Files. Media, Art, Archives. 2013-2017", edited by the exhibition curators Magdalena Taube and Krystian Woznicki, gathers for the first time a representative selection of artists working with the Snowden files and places them in context with appropriations by media folks and archivists. "Fugitive Belonging" is a monographic publication by Krystian Woznicki. Containing an extensive essay and more than 100 photographs, it reflects the broader socio-political context behind the Snowden disclosures, focusing on the politics of citizenship in the networked state. Fwd: FUTURE ENERGY SUMMIT in Folkestone on Sept 3

---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Gediminas Urbonas <urbonas(a)mit.edu> Date: Tue, Aug 29, 2017 at 4:47 AM Subject: FUTURE ENERGY SUMMIT in Folkestone on Sept 3 To: Michel Bauwens <michelsub2004(a)gmail.com> Dear Michel, I'm writing to send you the details of the Sept. 3 *FUTURE ENERGY SUMMIT*, to be held at the Folkestone Town Hall from 11AM - 6pm. Future Energy Summit engages the emerging field of energy humanities, and the discourses of the future of energy and post-fossil fuel transition, to explore multidisciplinary approaches to energy, including non-human energy production by organisms such as bacteria or fungi, and the forms of energy in an expanded field, from psychotropic plant or mushroom induced altered states of mind to hybrid infrastructures. According to Imre Szeman, one of the contributors of Future Energy Summit, the narrative of fossil fuel based modernity is already a fiction that made the expansive use of energy invisible for the sake of exhausted models of ‘progress’ and ‘freedom’. Therefore, the key question raised on the occasion of this Summit is: how can we “rewrite” these fictions, unearthing our relation to energy production processes that are already part of natural systems and reprogramming our relation to our own and other human and non-human bodies? The *FUTURE ENERGY SUMMIT* program can be found here: http://www.zooetics.net/lectures/ or here: http://www.folkestonetriennial.org.uk/events/event/future-energy-summit/ *Folkestone QuarterHouse is handling reservations here:* https://www.quarterhouse.co.uk/whats-on/future-energy-summit Free entry, though registration required. *Poster of the Summit is in the dropbox:* https://www.dropbox.com/sh/y8vyvohsa6sye5n/AAA8aQdegNLp2p8ijXpgMEjwa?dl=0 *Please help to communicate the Summit to your networks, friends and colleagues!* Just to let you know of the Triennial’s opening events. On the 2nd of Sept. all the works will be open to public, including the *Folke Stone Power Plant*, our work commissioned by the Triennial. The Stone Power Plant is sited in front of Folkestone Museum, in the ancient Market Place.
