(www.itforchange.net) Here's a link <http://www.itforchange.net/Anita_at_IGF_2016> (http://www. itforchange.net/Anita_at_IGF_2016) to the statement made by Anita Gurumurthy (Executive Director, IT for Change) at the Opening Session of the Internet Governance Forum 2016, Guadalajara, Mexico. Her submission stressed the urgent need for social movements to come together to re-imagine an alternative internet, one that makes possible a society that is free and equal. The first step towards this is to acknowledge that an Internet that can be individually empowering, collectively enriching and ecologically restorative is possible only through a democratic rule of law that guarantees the mechanisms of accountability, in global internet governance. Fwd: [bgcon] TACIT FUTURES > recap #4 Refugee Project

---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Krystian Woznicki <kw(a)berlinergazette.de> Date: Thu, Dec 8, 2016 at 6:33 PM Subject: [bgcon] TACIT FUTURES > recap #4 Refugee Project To: digi-yards(a)berlinergazette.de Hi, at the TACIT FUTURES conference the Berliner Gazette team invited participants and guests to donate for a refugee project at an emergency shelter in Germany's capital. This was supported by a variety of publishing houses such as AK Press, transcript, Diaphanes, Passagen, Merve and Meson Press. The publishers donated copies of books that related to our conference themes: migration, border policy, globalization, refugee rights, digital politics and so forth. In exchange for donations, conference guests could acquired these books. The money that we collected went into a refugee project: The printing of a photo brochure, that is 180 pages long and contains more than 100 photos which show the approx. 200 people of the community of this emergency shelter – refugees and so called "welcoming citizens" alike. Here an image of a spread inside the brochure, which came from the printing press the other day: <https://www.flickr.com/photos/berlinergazette/31133228050> https://www.flickr.com/photos/berlinergazette/31133228050 Usually invisiblized in the public realm (of mainstream media), this brochure enables the community to obtain a "visible face". The photos in this brochure show a community that came into being literally overnight in a school gym which housed hundreds of people young and old, male and female, from more than 20 countries – a place at which also countless community activities were autonomously organized. Actually some of the refugees and helpers of this community were active participants at the TACIT FUTURES conferences, among them Hamed, who's story is shared in the multimedia project "Lives in Movement": <http://berlinergazette.de/traces-of-movement/?page_id=2> http://berlinergazette.de/traces-of-movement/?page_id=2 For the moment, the brochure's distribution is limited to the emergency shelter community. But we would like to continue working on it in order to make it available to a broader audience in the form of a public book. If you want to support this (e.g. in form of donations), please write us an email! I'm bcc'ing the essay link to others. Perhaps the original underlying adverse human algorithm is the concept of the 'zero sum game' positing that one tribe must win at the expense of another tribe (1-1=0) ? IMHO this win/lose thinking, though rooted in primal natural scarcity, had the effect of being amplified to justify colonialism and expropriation, setting the pattern for many societies even today. Fwd: [Networked-Labour] Globalisation v localisation
by Michel Bauwens 06 Dec '16

06 Dec '16

---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Anna Harris <anna(a)shsh.co.uk> Date: Tue, Dec 6, 2016 at 4:55 PM Subject: [Networked-Labour] Globalisation v localisation To: Networked Labour <networked-labour_igopnet(a)lists.igopnet.cc> Julian Rose, an early pioneer of organic agriculture in the UK, has written an interesting blog post about different ways of looking at globalisation and localisation: "The best way to visualise the activity of a marketplace which deals in finite planetary resources as though they were infinite, *is a man in a tree steadily sawing off the branch he is sitting on. *And yes, he's three quarters of the way through that branch at the time of going to press. But there is *another paradigm *pushing its way up through the morass of discarded steel and concrete which constitute the scrap heap earth economic order; and that is an altogether different baby, with its *roots in pre-industrial revolution practices *where the land and its resources were regarded with respect and awe, and held to be essential to the health and well-being of all who engaged with them. Here, manual dexterity and a pedigree in good land husbandry were the hallmarks of sustainable living and the guarantee of good food on the table as well as a robust weatherproof home. The *simple values adopted by countryside communities *were largely sacrosanct because they were closely associated with life and death, for the whole family. One lived close to the ground and got to know that ground intimately as a result. Mistreat it, and one blew one's life line to security and prosperity. Stand these two models side by side – and *reflect on which is the more responsible template for the survival of planet Earth*, its flora, fauna and human inhabitants.... In case readers should think I'm talking about some futuristic utopia, let it be known that models filling this description are already in operation all over the world". *Julian Rose *is an early pioneer of UK organic agriculture, a writer, activist and President of the* International Coalition to Protect the Polish Countryside. * See www.notthembutus.wordpress.com/2016/11/11/globalisation-v-localisation- by-julian-rose <http://app.getresponse.com/click.html?x=a62b&lc=dIxZH&mc=JV&s=y8kBdP&u=ZS&y…> . _______________________________________________ Networked-labour_igopnet mailing list Networked-labour_igopnet(a)lists.igopnet.cc http://grups.pangea.org/mailman/listinfo/networked-labour_igopnet -- Check out the Commons Transition Plan here at: http://commonstransition.org P2P Foundation: http://p2pfoundation.net - http://blog.p2pfoundation.net <http://lists.ourproject.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/p2p-foundation>Updates: http://twitter.com/mbauwens; http://www.facebook.com/mbauwens #82 on the (En)Rich list: http://enrichlist.org/the-complete-list/
