To: "econowmix(a)googlegroups.com" <econowmix(a)googlegroups.com> at 55 minutes, about netocrats ( found via Dorota ) https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=cGGBWssRAhI#t=3301 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Netocracy The concept was later picked up by the Swedish philosophers Alexander Bard<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alexander_Bard> and Jan Söderqvist <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jan_S%C3%B6derqvist> for their book *Netocracy — The New Power Elite and Life After Capitalism* (originally published in Swedish in 2000 as*Nätokraterna - boken om det elektroniska klassamhället*, published in English by Reuters/Pearsall UK in 2002). The netocracy concept has been compared with Richard Florida<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_Florida>'s concept of the creative class <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Creative_class>. Bard and Söderqvist have also defined an under-class in opposition to the netocracy, which they refer to as the consumtariat<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Consumtariat> . -- P2P Foundation: http://p2pfoundation.net - http://blog.p2pfoundation.net <http://lists.ourproject.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/p2p-foundation>Updates: http://twitter.com/mbauwens; http://www.facebook.com/mbauwens #82 on the (En)Rich list: http://enrichlist.org/the-complete-list/

But however ‘immaterial’ their labour processes, workers still have bodies that become exhausted and require feeding and housing in the offline economy. This collection takes a critical look at how online work can be theorised and categorised (including revisiting concepts of ‘deskilling’ developed in the 1970s). Drawing on in-depth empirical research in Europe, Latin America and North America it also analyses how the development of online work has meshed with broader trends in organisational restructuring to erode traditional employment norms, time structures and models of behaviour at work, placing stresses on daily life and raising new contradictions in the real world. *Contents* Working online, living offline: labour in the Internet Age<http://visitor.benchmarkemail.com/c/l?u=2A854BC&e=34220E&c=14F0F&t=0&l=6129…> *by Ursula Huws* Web, value and labour *by Sabine Pfeiffer* Towards a taxonomy of virtual work *by Kaire Holts* Distance learning and the transformation of working conditions in teaching: ICTs and the commodification of education in Brazil *by Simone Wolff and Sergio Antunes de Almeida* Forced to go virtual?: Distributed cooperation of small software firms *by Annika Schönauer, Ruth Kasper, Jörg Flecker and Ursula Holtgrewe* IT firms’ working time (de)regulation model: a by-product of risk management strategy and project-based work management *by Marie-Josée Legault* ‘A science to it’: flexible time and flexible subjectivity in the digital workplace *by Frederick Pitts* Labour relations and globalisation: an analysis of ethical dilemmas from ‘Le Couperet’ *by Fábio Francisco de Araujo and Patrícia Amélia Tomei* Automating amateurs in the 3D printing community: connecting the dots between ‘deskilling’ and ‘user-friendliness’ *by Johan Söderberg* Review: Digital Connect *by Eran Fisher* Review: recent publications on the commodification of public services *by Bryan Evans. * *Previous Issues* Volume 6, Number 2: Bridges and barriers: globalisation and the mobility of work and workers<http://visitor.benchmarkemail.com/c/l?u=2A4C015&e=34220E&c=14F0F&t=0&l=6129…> [image: issue 9] Volume 6, Number 1: The reproduction of difference: gender and the global division of labour<http://visitor.benchmarkemail.com/c/l?u=2A4C017&e=34220E&c=14F0F&t=0&l=6129…> [image: issue 8] Volume 5, Number 1: Passing the buck: corporate restructuring and the casualisation of employment <http://visitor.benchmarkemail.com/c/l?u=2A4C017&e=34220E&c=14F0F&t=0&l=6129…> Volume 4, Number 2: Getting the message: communications workers and global value chains<http://visitor.benchmarkemail.com/c/l?u=2A4C018&e=34220E&c=14F0F&t=0&l=6129…> <http://visitor.benchmarkemail.com/c/l?u=2A4C019&e=34220E&c=14F0F&t=0&l=6129…> Volume 4, Number 1: Between a rock and a hard place: the shaping of employment in a global economy<http://visitor.benchmarkemail.com/c/l?u=2A4C019&e=34220E&c=14F0F&t=0&l=6129…> <http://visitor.benchmarkemail.com/c/l?u=2A4C01A&e=34220E&c=14F0F&t=0&l=6129…> Volume 3, Number 1: Working at the interface: call centre labour in a global economy <http://visitor.benchmarkemail.com/c/l?u=2A4C01A&e=34220E&c=14F0F&t=0&l=6129…> Volume 2, Number 2, The new gold rush: the new multinationals and the commodification of public sector work. <http://visitor.benchmarkemail.com/c/l?u=2A4C01B&e=34220E&c=14F0F&t=0&l=6129…> Volume 2, Number 1 Break or weld?: trade union responses to global value chain restructuring <http://visitor.benchmarkemail.com/c/l?u=2A4C01C&e=34220E&c=14F0F&t=0&l=6129…> <http://visitor.benchmarkemail.com/c/l?u=2A4C01B&e=34220E&c=14F0F&t=0&l=6129…> Volume 1, Number 2: Defragmenting: towards a critical understanding of the new global division of labour <http://visitor.benchmarkemail.com/c/l?u=2A4C01B&e=34220E&c=14F0F&t=0&l=6129…> Volume 1 Number 1, The spark in the engine: creative workers in a global economy.<http://visitor.benchmarkemail.com/c/l?u=2A4C01D&e=34220E&c=14F0F&t=0&l=6129…> *Quick Links* <#140e5406b75d31f1_1>Subscribe now<http://visitor.benchmarkemail.com/c/l?u=2A4C01E&e=34220E&c=14F0F&t=0&l=6129…> Submit an article<http://visitor.benchmarkemail.com/c/l?u=2A4C01F&e=34220E&c=14F0F&t=0&l=6129…> Read online<http://visitor.benchmarkemail.com/c/l?u=2A854BD&e=34220E&c=14F0F&t=0&l=6129…> Buy as a book<http://visitor.benchmarkemail.com/c/l?u=2A4DD91&e=34220E&c=14F0F&t=0&l=6129…> Read introduction<http://visitor.benchmarkemail.com/c/l?u=2A854BE&e=34220E&c=14F0F&t=0&l=6129…> *ABOUT THE JOURNAL* Work Organisation, Labour and Globalisation is an independent, international inter-disciplinary peer-reviewed journal, founded in 2006.Each issue is devoted to a specific theme. Fwd: CSG news to ECC participants about a case of manipulation
by Michel Bauwens 04 Sep '13

04 Sep '13

---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Silke Helfrich <silke.helfrich(a)gmx.de> Date: Wed, Sep 4, 2013 at 5:45 AM Subject: CSG news to ECC participants about a case of manipulation To: Silke.Helfrich(a)gmx.de Dear ECC participants and other friends, We wish to share with you some shocking news that affects all of us. We recently learned that a person working closely with the Commons Strategies Group, especially in connection with the Economics and the Commons Conference (ECC) in May 2013, had been manipulating ECC planning and intercepting our email communications for at least 18 months. Through traces of IP addresses and partial confessions, both oral and written, we have confirmed that Franco Iacomella made it impossible for a colleague to attend the conference and had been blocking selected email communications to Michel Bauwens, CSG co-founder and head of the P2P Foundation. He was interfering with email sent to Michel from 55 email addresses, many of them used by ECC participants. (A full list is included at the end of this letter. We apologize for sharing the email addresses, but the issue deserves detailed attention.) Emails from these people were either deleted, leading many people to conclude that Michel had simply ignored them, or selectively filtered. Some were diverted by Iacomella and given phony responses. As one might expect, these revolting manipulations made it extremely difficult for people to cooperate in reliable ways. Iacomella’s filtering also sowed seeds of confusion and distrust among people working with Michel, and among members of the Commons Strategies Group and the ECC team. We sincerely hope that throughout the conference you did not feel too much of the impact. These actions also cast a new light on Iacomella’s role in suggesting and volunteering to set up a communications platform for the ECC -- http://economicsandcommons.org – which in fact went online shortly before the conference. You might wonder why we were first encouraging you to use the platform for beyond-ECC communication and in the aftermath did not manage to really make it a lively place. This relates directly to our conclusion that Iacomella's goal may well have been to oversee and control communication more than to enable it among ECC participants. This may be also one of the reasons why the platform was not perceived as easy accessible and as facilitating networking. Just to give you an example of what this meant to us, and especially to Michel Bauwens in real life: On some occasions, Iacomella wrote phony recommendations for himself, using the P2P Foundation’s name, in order to secure speaking engagements, advisory board memberships, and other roles for himself, when it was Michel who was initially invited. We have also documented that Iacomella forged letters purporting to be from the Right Livelihood Award Foundation as part of a successful attempt to prevent an invited keynote speaker from attending the ECC. In a series of deceptions unrelated to ECC and CSG, Iacomella misrepresented his academic credentials, job titles and organizational affiliations in Argentina for several years now. We do not know the actual motivations behind all of these acts or whether there were third parties involved. However, the apparent goals were to promote Iacomella’s visibility in free software, tech and commons circles; to interfere with the activities and growth of the P2P Foundation and the Commons Movement; and to actively undermine the working relationships of Commons Strategies Group members as they planned the ECC. While the effects of some of the email manipulations were subtle or invisible, other results – personal tensions, mistakes, misunderstandings – often were not. We therefore wish to share these recently discovered facts with you to help shed new light on the past year and a half of the activities by the CSG and P2P Foundation. It is important for us to let you know: if some communications or exchanges felt amiss, confusing or somehow offensive, they may have been related to these hidden interferences with our emails. Please be assured that we have now secured control over the ECC communications platform and its contents and will soon make a decision about how to move forward. For now, the three of us with the Commons Strategies Group – Michel, Silke and David – are relieved to have discovered what was behind so many misunderstandings and problems. We are now re-committing ourselves to working together and developing new strategic priorities for commoning. We are starting afresh at a time when so many important commons initiatives are bursting forth. This strange, outrageous episode underscores the real significance of our commons work: it is becoming more politically consequential. The commons is a threatening alternative to some people. Now that we know how truly insecure electronic communications are – thanks to the revelations about the US National Security Administration’s routine spying on ordinary citizens – it is clear that the future of our commons movement depends upon direct, trustworthy communications, and whenever possible, face to face communication. The real power of the commons is the incorruptibility of our relationships: something that we must work hard to protect. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us. Sincerely, The Commons Strategies Group: David Bollier Silke Helfrich Michel Bauwens Below is the list of 55 email addresses that were being blocked or diverted on Michel Bauwens’ email account by Franco Iacomella: wouter(a)freeknowledge.eu, sp.travlou(a)gmail.com, digital-manual(a)jiscmail.ac.uk, digital-manual(a)jiscmail.ac.uk, sp.travlou(a)gmail.com, massimo.menichinelli(a)aalto.fi, whoesch(a)truman.edu, aysegulguzel(a)zumbara.com, nancy(a)kosmosjournal.org, juha.huuskonen(a)finnish-**institute.org.uk<juha.huuskonen(a)finnish-institute.org.uk> , daniel(a)jgse.org, ruche_alain(a)yahoo.fr, p.travlou(a)ed.ac.uk, rachel.odwyer(a)gmail.com, ciaranmoore(a)dctv.ie, hdieterich(a)gmail.com, stian(a)fripost.org, kat.braybrooke(a)okfn.org, amaia.arcos(a)googlemail.com, hfinidori(a)yahoo.com, nicolasmendo(a)gmail.com, hfinidori(a)gmail.com, brendan(a)eventures.vc, Carolyn.Stephens(a)lshtm.ac.uk, projectluz(a)gmail.com, bernardobrasil(a)gmail.com, gorenflo(a)gmail.com, neal(a)shareable.net, aysegulguzel(a)zumbara.com, eloste(a)uoc.edu, danaklisanin(a)aol.com, petermerry(a)ubiquityuniversity.**org <petermerry(a)ubiquityuniversity.org>, p2p-econ2013(a)lists.ourproject.**org <p2p-econ2013(a)lists.ourproject.org>, whoesch(a)truman.edu, lifesized(a)gmail.com, guido.ruivenkamp(a)wur.nl, rubyvdwekken(a)gmail.com, aysegulguzel(a)gmail.com, Loeschmann(a)boell.de, david(a)bollier.org, silke.helfrich(a)gmx.de, petermerry(a)ubiquityuniversity.**org <petermerry(a)ubiquityuniversity.org>, mfotaki(a)mbs.ac.uk, heikeloschmann(a)gmail.com, info(a)sciencegallery.com, michel(a)eCommMedia.com, ken(a)evolver.net -- P2P Foundation: http://p2pfoundation.net - http://blog.p2pfoundation.net <http://lists.ourproject.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/p2p-foundation>Updates: http://twitter.com/mbauwens; http://www.facebook.com/mbauwens #82 on the (En)Rich list: http://enrichlist.org/the-complete-list/

I especially like Harvey's suggestion of an international “league of socialist cities”. There is a worthwhile, related lecture on "The Urbanisation of Class Struggle" here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rbqcxFS2P40. (Tech hint: If you use a browser / add-on combo that allows you to download rather than just stream Youtube videos, you can save huge amounts of bandwidth by downloading the "mobile" version and then closing the window before the full-res version loads, and watch the mobile version offline via VLC or some other compatible video player. Picture quality isn't great, but for video lectures that usually doesn't matter much.) New David Harvey Interview on Class Struggle in Urban Spaces<http://critical-theory.com/david-harvey-interview-class-struggle-urban-spac…> August 7th, 2013 | by Eugene <http://critical-theory.com/author/admin/>. Published in Theory and Theorists<http://critical-theory.com/category/theory/> | 1 Comment<http://critical-theory.com/david-harvey-interview-class-struggle-urban-spac…> The following is an interview published by the Occupied Times<http://theoccupiedtimes.org/?p=11969>with Marxist geographer David Harvey <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Harvey>. *Occupied Times:** ** In 1968, Henri Lefebvre first introduced the concept of “the right to the city’’. He advocated the ‘rescue of man as the main protagonist of the city he has built…the meeting point for collective living.’ You have referred to this collective right – to remake ourselves and our cities – as ‘one of the most precious yet most neglected of our human rights.’ In what ways do you think we have neglected this human right in recent years?* *David Harvey:* If the question of what kind of city gets built depends critically on what kind of people we want to be, then the broad failure to openly discuss this relation means that we have abandoned the reshaping of people and their passions to the requirements of capital accumulation. It was, I think, very well understood by planners and policy makers that the suburbanisation of the United States after 1945 would not only help rescue the US from the prospect of a return to the depression conditions of the 1930s by way of a vast expansion of effective demand, but that it would also serve to create a social and political world devoid of revolutionary consciousness or anti-capitalist sentiment. Small wonder that the feminists of the 1960s saw the suburb as their enemy and that the suburban lifestyle became associated with a certain kind of political subjectivity that was class-prejudiced, exclusionary and racist in the extreme. *OT: **London is praised as a multicultural city, and perhaps a significant component of the right to the city is the right to coexist. In re-imagining and remaking cities, how can we ensure that a city remade isn’t done so in a way that privileges or discriminates different interests or communities that exist in the city?* *DH:* There is nothing to ensure it other than social movements, active political engagements and the willingness to fight for one’s place. Conflict in and over the city is a healthy thing, not a pathology that state interventions must control and put down. *OT:** We live in a digital age. In many cases, people develop more intimate relationships with people thousands of miles away than they do with their neighbours on the same street. If cities have tended, historically, to develop around shared physical space, how will communicative technologies that undermine the preeminence of physical/spatial communities, affect the future configuration of the city?* *DH: *The new technologies are a double-edge sword. On the one hand they can function as “weapons of mass distraction” and divert people to believing politics is possible solely in some virtual world. Or, they can be used to inspire and coordinate political action on the streets, in the neighbourhoods and throughout the city. There is no substitute for bodies on the street for political action as we have seen in Cairo, Istanbul, Athens, Sao Paulo, etc. Working together with active street politics, the new technologies can be a fabulous resource. *OT:** Writing in ‘Whose Rebel City?’, Neil Grey suggests that in your most recent book, ‘Rebel Cities’, your analysis neglected the autonomous Marxist tradition first developed during in the urban struggles of 1960s and 1970s Italy – characterised by the ‘Take over the City’ slogan; feminist debates around social reproduction; the idea of ‘the social factory’ and so called ‘territorial community activism’ – instead focusing your theory on the absorption of capital and labour surpluses through urbanisation. How do you respond to this criticism? Do you agree that these political practices can serve as outlining models of how inhabitants might re-organise their cities? * *DH: *I find this criticism strange. To be sure chapter 2 is about the creation of urbanisation through processes of capital accumulation, but chapter 5 is devoted to class social movements in the cities. I could not cover all such movements of course and so there are many, such as those associated with the autonomista movement in Italy that are, I am sure, certainly worthy of inclusion. But I did look at the way the houses of the people earlier in the century in Italy complemented the factory council movements and of course took a lot of inspiration from the El Alto story as well as from the Paris Commune and other urban uprisings, while trying to theorise in what ways these could all be understood in the framework of class struggle. So, to say I was only concerned with the absorption of surplus capital is pretty weird and suggests Neil Grey either did not get to the end of the book or was dismissive of it because I did not deal with his particular favourite urban social movement. I wish, by the way, I had cited Gramsci’s comment on the importance of supplementing the factory councils with ward committees: “The ward committee should also seek to incorporate delegates from other categories of workers living in the ward: waiters, cab drivers, tramway men, railwaymen, road sweepers, private employees, clerks and others. The ward committee should be an expression of the whole of the working class living in the ward, an expression that is legitimate and authoritative, that can enforce a spontaneously delegated discipline that is backed by powers and can order the immediate and complete cessation of all work in the ward.” *OT:** On the heels of rapid urbanisation and an ever-inflating property bubble in China, you have spoken of a rising class struggle on the ground that people living in the West just don’t hear about. If we were to look more carefully at the situation in China, what could we learn?* *DH: *There is a lot more now coming out on China and an increasing recognition of the dangers of both urban asset bubbles of gargantuan proportions (particularly in housing) and a chronic problem of overproduction of urbanisation in response to the crash of export markets in 2008. There is now a lot of nervousness about urban overaccumulation. Theoretically, I understand what is happening but when it will come to a halt I cannot say. And we know there is a lot of urban and industrial unrest in China but it is very difficult to judge how much and of what significance. *OT:** You place the concept you have termed ‘accumulation by dispossession’ at the heart of urbanisation under capitalism. Swathes of London are currently being transformed under the guise of ‘regeneration’, coupled with housing benefit cuts and the new so-called Bedroom Tax. One example of many, would be the hundreds of residents from the Heygate Estate in Elephant & Castle who have lost their homes so that property developers can replace social housing with ‘affordable’ properties. Grassroots campaigns have sprung up to resist these displacements, but they continually face policy and legal constraints. What are your thoughts on the importance and potential pitfalls of a unified movement across the city, or even wider?* *DH: *I think it vital to unify as far as possible struggles against dispossession across the whole city. But to do so requires an accurate picture of the forms of dispossession occurring and their roots. For example, there is at this time a need to put together a picture of the predatory practices of the property developers and their financial backers on a citywide basis, and initiate a collective citywide struggle to curb and control their practices. Recently, we have seen urban unrest in Brazil that is about transport costs but also against (and this is remarkable given we are talking about Brazil) the stadium-building for the World Cup and the displacement and waste of public resources that is involved, so citywide and cross-city struggles are not impossible. The danger, as always, is that the struggles may fade as people get tired of the fight. The only answer is to keep the struggles going and build organisations that have the capacity to do that (the MST in Brazil is a good example of this even though it is not a distinctively urban struggle). *OT:** There is a distinct lack of commonly-owned space in London. Much of the city is privately owned and caters to the panopticon of surveillance, ‘do not trespass’ signage, and a dearth of public space free from market interference. Is it important to seek out and grow community spaces, to allow those resisting the depredations of capitalism to find the space not only to work, but to explore new avenues of creative interaction as well?* *DH: *The question of liberating spaces controlled by the state and turning them into a commons controlled by the people is, in my opinion, crucial. The rolling back of privatisation of public spaces is also vital and I would hope to see many more movements directed towards such ends. *OT: **You have talked about the possibility of a “league of socialist cities” as a powerful way of changing the order of the world. Can you expand on what you mean, and how these could work?* *DH: *It is a bit of a far-out idea at first sight but there is a lot of benchmarking and best practice communication going on between cities and on some issues, like gun control in the USA, there are cooperative links between urban administrations that can have progressive results. I see no reason why such practices cannot build further into organised urban resistance to neoliberal practices. I think a coordinated response across urban administration in the UK to the so-called bedroom tax would be a possibility that would echo the way the struggle over the poll tax unfolded earlier. We have in fact done things of this sort but we don’t analyse them fully afterwards and appreciate their possibilities. *OT:** Civil unrest is becoming a more recurrent feature of urban life in London, as it is for cities around the world, among them Athens, Madrid, Mexico City, Buenos Aires, Santiago, Bogotá, Rio de Janeiro and, most recently, Stockholm. Are riots (not just protests and organised social movements) now part of a toolkit to reclaim the right to the city? What can those here in the financial capital of the world learn from these struggles in other cities?* *DH: *Since inviting me to comment on these questions we have Istanbul. When you look at the global situation you sense there is a volcanic situation bubbling beneath the surface of society and you never know when and where it is going to explode next (who would have thought Istanbul, even though it was plain to me on my earlier visit there that there were a lot of discontents). I think we need to prepare ourselves for such eruptions and build as far as we can, infrastructures and organisational forms capable of supporting and developing them into sustainable movements. *OT:** Whilst acknowledging the ingrained legitimisation of private property within the concept, what are your views on the efficacy of implementing a land value tax in the UK? Do you think it could achieve any of the equalising effects its proponents advocate?* *DH: *I think a land value tax could help but it does not, in the end, address the problem of the vast extractions of wealth by a rentier class that has become so very powerful in recent years particularly in major cities like London and New York, for this is a major form of dispossession that needs to be confronted. -- To view previous posts, create a Google account with your current email and log in using gmail to access the archives. https://accounts.google.com/newaccount?hl=en --- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups " debate-list(a)fahamu.org" group. Fwd: StreamScapes and Emerging Leader Labs

any interested coders? ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Eric Harris-Braun <eric(a)harris-braun.com> Date: Mon, Sep 2, 2013 at 3:41 AM Subject: StreamScapes and Emerging Leader Labs To: Michel Bawens <michel(a)p2pfoundation.net> Hello Michel! I’m writing because I’m building a team and I think you might know someone who would be perfect for it. As you know, for several years Arthur Brock and I have been collaborating in the fields of currency design, software engineering and social intelligence. Recently, our work in these fields has reached a new level of convergence and we are now ready to build a specific digital toolset. We think we've found the critical leverage point to unleash an explosion of social intelligence and collective creativity on a planetary scale. You may recall the StreamScapes prototype we showed at our Collabathon event you attended after ContactCon. Now we're ready to build the real thing. We are assembling a team of visionary coders, tech geeks, and innovators with the collective skills and creative fire to design and code StreamScapes from the low-level virtual machine up. I am emailing you because I believe that you know someone who’s right for our team and I need your introduction in order to find them. What we are creating is an open source software solution that leaps past some of the fundamental limitations in communicative power that are inherent to the structure of our today’s electronic communications. On the surface, StreamScapes appears to be simply a useful solution to the inbox problem, one place where you can manage all your digital communication streams. Email, facebook, twitter, voicemail, etc. all in one box, along with organizational tools to make sense of that flood, but it is more than that. StreamScapes provides a toolset that makes visible the structural grammars that define communication types such as email (From/To/Subject/Body) or Twitter (content, #hashtags, and @users up to 140 characters), and invites even casual users to tweak them, create their own, and share new useful grammars with others. Instead of sending a generic email asking about a critical task on a project, create a message with specific question and answer boxes to ensure responses to each question. Why link to a scheduling web site? Instead integrate a calendar poll right into your message. It goes deeper. As users play and experiment with creating and sharing useful communication grammars and workflows, they will begin to become accustomed to assuming an active role in creating the kinds of grammatical communications that enable institutions to function. From the text message to the bank transaction and the voting booth, StreamScapes will foster people’s capacities for play with the implicit communicative grammars and social agreements that enable social organisms such as institutions, states, and corporations to make decisions, exercise power, and conduct economic exchange. StreamScapes will form the first rung of a ladder of tools for communication, data processing, and agreement making that we believe is essential to catalyzing breakthroughs in our capacity for collective creativity and social intelligence. StreamScapes is actually just one application built on CEPTR, an underlying open source platform and set of protocols that provides a self-describing protocol stack as a fundamental restructuring of network computing. CEPTR can interface with the existing Internet and open the door for rapid evolution of new capacities and protocols (such as mesh networking, distributed social networks, and personal control of all your data). Furthermore, this technology will enable us to make sense of vast arrays of information with powerful, built-in, semantic relational tools. Huh? I realize that this is a bit abstract. My experience is that due to the scope and scale of the project there is no substitute for question driven conversation when explaining StreamScapes and CEPTR. I would be glad to talk with you via phone or skype and answer questions or elaborate on any aspects of the project that you find interesting. StreamScapes is a project that Arthur and I have been developing for several years. Now we are committed to building and launching the alpha version in the next 6 months. This breakthrough has come as the result of marrying our previous theoretical work in the realm of the MetaCurrency Project with our current endeavor, the Emerging Leader Labs (ELL). ELL is a social change incubator where we bring together young people with ambitious projects in the field of social innovation for intensive immersion in project development, coherence holding as a model of leadership, and group co-creativity. ELL has been a laboratory to test and refine our ideas about what it takes to create breakthroughs in social creativity, embodied in what we call “magic groups” that are able to achieve outrageous results at the levels of project generativity and success, simultaneous with facilitating deep personal growth for those involved. We operate ELL as much as possible within the generosity economy. Participants live in host homes, we work in donated space, and eat food given by local farms. The ELL model has been so successful that it looks like we’ll have 4 more Labs opening in other locations in the next year. We spent the last 5 years building and refining the technical knowledge to create CEPTR and StreamScapes. Now, with ELL we have successfully implemented a “social DNA” of a living social organism that embodies the self-generativity and polymorphic creativity we are committed to unlocking at a broader scale. With the coming together of these capacities we are confident that we are ready to build this next level toolset for collective creativity and intelligence. Starting mid October, we will gather in upstate New York for a special session of Emerging Leader Labs devoted entirely to StreamScapes. For 8 weeks we will build out StreamScapes and prepare to launch in the spring. We need to find awesome coders, UI/UX designers, testers and documentarians who are excited about building new technologies for collaboration while embodying that spirit in a innovative and magical group setting. StreamScapes is about creating magic groups at a planetary scale. Social intelligence is the new fire. Help us light the spark. Send us your geeks. I look forward to hearing from you. -Eric Harris-Braun -- P2P Foundation: http://p2pfoundation.net - http://blog.p2pfoundation.net <http://lists.ourproject.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/p2p-foundation>Updates: http://twitter.com/mbauwens; http://www.facebook.com/mbauwens #82 on the (En)Rich list: http://enrichlist.org/the-complete-list/
