Nomad Approach - Coalition ?

Paper : "The Cultural Shift Research outcomes" - excerpt : "Entredonneur"
by Dante-Gabryell Monson 27 Aug '11

27 Aug '11

http://northampton.academia.edu/TimCurtis/Papers/108687/The_Cultural_Shift_… pdf *Academic research outcomes from the* *Skoll Centre for Social Entrepreneurship,* *Saïd Business School, University of Oxford* // I can go along their definition except for thee "takes no risk" Ashoka relates to "entredonneur" - perhaps one may want to understand how they define risk - *11:‘Entredonneur’* * * The fieldwork identified a series of individuals who seem key to the process of creating a social enterprise but who never actually start or work for the enterprise themselves. They generally, but not always, work in the public sector, acting on behalf of emerging social enterprises, brokering relationships between other key players and decision-makers, providing and making links to information and other resources, but never ‘taking the credit’ for the resulting enterprise, either in terms of respect, return on effort or even being employed by the enterprise. Sometimes, the activity they undertake is their job, perhaps in economic development, but often not. In Ashoka’s sense of a social entrepreneur, these people “recognise when a part of society is stuck and to provide new ways to get it unstuck” but do so without taking the personal risk of pay or job security. These were initially dubbed ‘extra’-preneur’ by the research team in order to explain their external status but were renamed the more etymologically correct ‘entredonneur’17. However, they are different from Johnsson and Haag’s (1987:65) extrapreneur in that, in this circumstance, the extrapreneur does not leave the parent organisation but there is a clear commonality of mission – the extrapreneur addresses “new or previously unsatisfactorily met needs of proposed customers”. Although our extrapreneurs do not necessarily “come from departments with severe competition with other employers for personnel” a common factor is the “highly developed products, special orders, ... highly specialised use” services and products developed in response to customer-specific knowledge (1987:66) /////////////////////// Entrepreneur means literally ‘takes from between’’ from the French word ‘prendre’-to take, whereas ‘donneur’ refers to giving. The only known use of this term is Wood Wood, J. (1990). “COMMENT: The Socially Responsible Designer.” Design Magazine(July) http://attainable-utopias.org/tiki/EntreDonneur

Re: [P2P-F] [GiftEconomy] Couchsurfing changes to "socially responsible B Corporation"

It all depends what you do with the money. Genevieve Vaughans brilliant expose of gifts streaming up to the top of the hierarchy informs us that the money we recieve is only partly ours. If we then reason with ourselves as Charles Gray did that we are entitled to an equal share of the world money cake and take that for our use, then we can use whats left no matter what the amount to purchase and take land and resources out of private ownership and back into common ownership as it was before it was stolen from us. The legal structures and frameworks are there for us to use. Software : "Integrated Valuation of Ecosystem Services and Trade-offs"

Software : http://invest.ecoinformatics.org/ NY Times article - 9 August 2011 http://www.nytimes.com/2011/08/09/science/09profile.html?_r=1&pagewanted=al… InVEST: Integrated Valuation of Ecosystem Services and Tradeoffs The Need for a New Tool InVEST is a family of tools to map and value the goods and services from nature which are essential for sustaining and fulfilling human life. *UPDATE* Now includes models for COASTAL and MARINE ecosystem services. For further information on tool development, the InVEST user forum, and to register for InVEST updates, go to: http://invest.ecoinformatics.org Who Should Use InVEST Governments, non-profits, and corporations manage natural resources for multiple uses and inevitably must evaluate trade-offs among these uses; InVEST's multi-service, modular design provides an effective tool for evaluating these trade-offs. How it Works [image: How InVEST Works] NY Times article - 9 August 2011 http://www.nytimes.com/2011/08/09/science/09profile.html?_r=1&pagewanted=al… "Early on, Dr. Daily recognized that new tools were needed to quantify nature’s value. “We began by developing a software program called InVEST (Integrated Valuation of Ecosystem Services and Trade-offs) to map and value nature’s goods and services that are essential for humans,” she said. The software, which is available as a free download, enables the comparison of various environmental scenarios. What is the real cost of draining a wetland or clearing a coastline of mangroves? InVEST models the trade-offs and helps decision makers better understand the implications of their choices." ... The Costa Rican program helped inspire Dr. Daily to co-found the Natural Capital Project in 2006. NatCap, as the program is known, is a venture led by Stanford University, the University of Minnesota and two of the world’s largest conservation organizations, the Nature Conservancy and the World Wildlife Fund. It aims to transform traditional conservation methods by including the value of “ecosystem services” in business, community and government decisions. These benefits from nature — like flood protection, crop pollination and carbon storage — are not part of the traditional economic equation. *
