General appeal for content
by Michel Bauwens 31 Aug '11

Dear friends, for the moment, I have no buffer of extra material for the blog, thanks for considering any articles, sooner rather than later, Andy, remember the request for the post-modern urbanism comment, to publish with the contribution of Nikos? Kevin, could we finish your earlier book, and perhaps even go for a final push so that we have covered every chapter? apologies for X Posting - I hope this info can be useful for some nomad spirited researcher friends - http://academia.edu/Jobs/2772/Albert-Ludwigs-Universit%C3%A4t-Freiburg/Inst… The Research Group Cultures of Mobility in Europe (COME), Institute for Cultural Anthropology, Freiburg University, Germany, invites applications for 1 post-doc position (100% ) and 2 doctoral positions (50%) The research group COME explores practices of mobility in Europe by investigating minorities with mobile traditions and mobile professional milieus, such as the circus, Sinti and Roma, *alternative travelers*, and others. The research period ranges from the beginnings of the modern nation state to the present, with a focus on the period since 1945. *We welcome empirical and historical case studies on specific mobile groups*, which address COME’s core research questions: *How are traveling ways of life and mobile professions practiced in Europe?* *What kinds of mobile strategies and mobility patterns have specific groups developed and on which grounds? Re: [P2P-F] lack of sharing in OSE ..?
by David Collins 30 Aug '11

30 Aug '11

Eli, Devin, & Michel, Thanks for your e-mails and feedback - and apologies for the delay in responding. I acknowledge that what I wrote in that context was perhaps somewhat rash - and I apologise if it was out of line. In all honesty, I think the OSE project is an ingenious idea - and it has opened my eyes in certain r espects. I also realise that Marcin - or other organisers - do make an allowance for the possible development of a "resource-based economy". The author(s) mention the possibility of a sort of "New economics" in the OSE specifications - http://opensourceecology.org/wiki/OSE_Specifications#Point_by_Point . On the other hand, it is already evident to me that many (or perhaps most) of the people involved or interested in OSE have little or no interest in a "gift economy" (I have reservations about that term, but let's overlook that for the moment). See this thread for example: http://forum.opensourceecology.org/discussion/318/why-get-rid-of-money . So, although I would be happy to engage with and learn from the community and perhaps contribute at some sta ge, I don't believe it is necessarily the most appropriate community within which to be discussing the afore -mentioned ideas. Sincerely David Collins GPG id 646C8A43

Re: [P2P-F] [FC-discuss] SFC conference in European Parliament and position paper
by Michel Bauwens 29 Aug '11

29 Aug '11

Dear Andrea, I got this appeal via Devin, I think there is a lot of policy experience also within the FC Forum, a pluralist organisation of internet rights activists and creators, which includes some expert members of the Pirate Party and other groups, and it produced two of its own reports, one on cultural rights and one on economic sustainability of free culture (see http://fcforum.net/ ; http://p2pfoundation.net/Free_Culture_Forum, http://p2pfoundation.net/Category:Culture) at the p2p-f, we are collating policy pages at http://p2pfoundation.net/Category:Policy (broader than free culture) so don't hesitate to update me and I can forward to both p2p-f and fcforum mailing lists, I imagine some of us on those two lists are still young enough to be students at uni's, and all of them are students of life, once you know what kind of assistance would be most useful, do let us know, Michel On Wed, Jul 20, 2011 at 10:22 PM, Devin Balkind <devin(a)sarapisfoundation.org > wrote: > I think the P2P-F community could be very helpful to Students for Free > Culture (SFC) as they draft this position paper. > > ---------- Forwarded message ---------- > From: <af529(a)york.ac.uk> > Date: Wed, Jul 20, 2011 at 10:46 AM > Subject: [FC-discuss] SFC conference in European Parliament and position > paper > To: core(a)freeculture.org > Cc: discuss(a)freeculture.org > > > Hi everyone! > > The next SFC conference will most likely be in Europe and we chose the > European Parliament as a location. I am exploring the ways in which this can be applied to the construction of software, and in particular to user interfaces. I recently wrote an introductory chapter about this for a book about free software ("open source"), and gave a presentation at the 2011 Desktop Summit in Berlin: Chapter - http://people.gnome.org/~federico/misc/software-with-qwan.pdf Presentation - http://people.gnome.org/~federico/docs/2011-Desktop-Summit/qwan/html/index.… I'm happy to say that this presentation got a very good reception by my peers in the free software community.
