To: michelsub2004(a)gmail.com [image: Quora] Peter Mortensen suggested an edit for your answer to "What factors facilitate collective intelligence?" Peter Mortensen suggested an edit for your answer to "What factors facilitate collective intelligence?" I recommend you checkout Pierre Levy's 'networks of collective intelligence' approach, which integrates 6 main components of collective intelligence. See http://pierrelevy.postero**us.com/...<http://pierrelevy.posterous.com/the-networks-of-collective-intelligence> I have collated various materials on the topic at http://p2pfoundation.net/* *Categor... <http://p2pfoundation.net/Category:Intelligence> and http://delicious.com/mbau**wens/Co...<http://delicious.com/mbauwens/Collective-Intelligence> Here are three more interpretative schemes: Dave Snowden has proposed the Cynefin framework for identifying the best match between knowledge styles and reality: "It has five domains, characterised by the relationship between cause and effect. The first four domains are: - *Simple*, in which *the relationship between cause and effect is obvious to all*, the approach is to *Sense - Categorise - Respond* and we can apply best practice. - *Complicated*, in which *the relationship between cause and effect requires analysis* or some other form of investigation and/or the application of expert knowledge, the approach is to *Sense - Analyze - Respond* and we can apply good practice. - *Complex*, in which *the relationship between cause and effect can only be perceived in retrospect, but not in advance*, the approach is to *Probe - Sense - Respond* and we can sense emergent practice. - *Chaotic*, in which there is *no relationship between cause and effect at systems level*, the approach is to *Act - Sense - Respond* and we can discover novel practice. The fifth domain is *Disorder*, which is *the state of not knowing what type of causality exists*, in which state people will revert to the comfort zone in making a decision." (http://en.wikipedia.org/**wiki/Cyn...<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cynefin> ) See the video: Shawn Callahan on the Cynefin Framework *2.* Framework from George Dyson in Darwin Among The Machines, summarized by Kevin Kelly [4]: - *One species, many minds*: The official future. We interbreed among our genetic improvements and keep our individuality distinct, and our species identity intact. - *One species, one mind*: Through electronic mediation, we join together to create a superorganism. A suprahuman. - *Many species, many minds*: Ultimate diversity. Humans fork in their evolution to create new breeds. Some may even join machines in cyborgian partnerships. - *Many species, one mind*: We fork in biology but unite in the noosphere. Millions of species share the same mind. *3.* Henry Jenkins: "We can argue that there are a range of different models of collective intelligence shaping the digital realm at the present time. We might distinguish broadly between three different models: 1) *An aggregative model which assumes that we can collect data based on the autonomous and anonymous decisions of “the crowd”* and use it to gain insights into their collective behavior. This is the model which shapes Digg and to some degree, YouTube. 2) a curatorial model where grassroots intermediaries seek to represent their various constituencies and bring together information that they think is valuable. This is the model which shapes the blogosphere. 3) *a deliberative model where many different voices come together, define problems, vet information, and find solutions which would be impossible for any individual to achieve*. This is the model shaping Wikipedia or even more powerfully alternate universe games. Of the three, the deliberative model offers the most democratic potentials, especially when it is tempered by ethical and political commitments to diversity. This is the model which Pierre Levy describes in his book, Collective Intelligence. Levy’s account stresses the affirmative value placed on diversity in such a culture. The more diverse the community, the broader range of possible information and insights can inform the deliberative process." does anyone know this book? perhaps worth discussing on the p2p blog? Nicholas, as this is about buddhist economics, perhaps you could have a look into it? see *"The institutions of our society co-arise with us. They are not independent structures separate from our inner lives, like some backdrop to our personal dramas. Nor are they merely projections of our own minds. As collective forms of our ignorance, fears and greed, they acquire their own momentum, enlist our massive obedience, and depend on our collective consent." --Joanna Macy: World As Lover, World As Self* -- P2P Foundation: http://p2pfoundation.net - http://blog.p2pfoundation.net Connect: http://p2pfoundation.ning.com; Discuss: http://lists.ourproject.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/p2p-foundation Updates: http://del.icio.us/mbauwens; http://friendfeed.com/mbauwens; http://twitter.com/mbauwens; http://www.facebook.com/mbauwens

Huffpo sweatshop, boycott campaign and decline of labor

http://timothyblee.com/2011/06/15/the-huffpo-sweatshop-and-the-decline-of-l… Dear Orsan, this is quite an important issue, I wonder if you could write a response to it for the p2p blog, it's important that labor has a positive attitude towards p2p, while also having something to propose to improve the condition of so-called 'free labour' the above libertarian response is of course quite insufficient, Michl -- P2P Foundation: http://p2pfoundation.net - http://blog.p2pfoundation.net Connect: http://p2pfoundation.ning.com; Discuss: http://lists.ourproject.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/p2p-foundation Updates: http://del.icio.us/mbauwens; http://friendfeed.com/mbauwens; http://twitter.com/mbauwens; http://www.facebook.com/mbauwens

Intro to Wa3i for Change in Sudan

Topic: Greeting From SudaneseGuardian & Intro to Wa3i for Change<http://groups.google.com/group/building-a-distributed-decentralized-interne…> Venessa Miemis <venessamiemis(a)gmail.com> Jun 14 08:35PM -0700 ^<https://mail.google.com/mail/?ui=2&view=bsp&ver=ohhl4rw8mbn4#13095e258af800…> via liberationtech, sudaneseguardian(a)gmail.com Dear All, hi and how are you all, i hope this letter finds you all in good health and happiness, i am SG who blogs at http://sudaneseguardian.blogspot.com/, it is nice to get to be part of this Mail list and i am learning a lot from it. in this email i would like to introduce to you about my latest project for Sudan. as a Sudanese, i feel that it is important for me to start a project that promote Social Justice and Good Governance and hence i was looking for a way other then blogging at http://sudaneseguardian.blogspot.com and tweeting about Sudan at @SudanGuardian , I thought that my next project should be with the help of Ushahidi great tool of where i want to create a new project that track corruption and embezzlement. knowing that Sudan is listed among Transparency International’s Corruption Perceptions index for 2010 as 172 out of 176. one of the world most corrupted nation and i feel that if we Sudanese don’t stand up against corruption and embezzlement in our own country then i believe no one would do so. Hence wa3i was born, the site is at http://wa3i.crowdmap.com/ hosted by crowd-sourcing map and using ushahidi as all of you know a wonderful program programmed by wonderful and talented people of Ushahidi. It was not long ago that I start this small project and it is still in the development stage. As all of you know Ushahidi is wonderful and make it very easy to program Ushahidi crowd-sourcing map and I thank them a lot for that, my main work was done on the categorization of corruption and embezzlement, I wanted to make it a simple as possible and as easy to understand as possible. I am sure a lot of you might have had some experience making crowd-sourcing map or are doing project that are similar to this one, If you are working on similar project to this one and want to work together or can suggest advice to improve this map please feel free to suggest ways to improve it and I would be grateful for you advice. especially i am having hard time working categorization of corruption in a simple way for everyone to understand. Here is some basic information about the project Name: Wa3i For Change - واعي لاجل التغير Theme: Spreading Awareness One Click at a time Introduction: Welcome to Wa3i for Change There is an ancient Chinese proverb that says “It's better to light a candle then to curse the darkness.” As Sudanese we all hold the right to pinpoint the wrong doing that is happening in the Sudan, we must be at the forefront stage of fighting corruption and embezzlement. As you might have known or heard from the news or read on published articles, Sudan is ranking among the world most corrupted Nation on earth. The ranking for Sudan according to the Transparency International’s Corruption Perceptions index for 2010 is 172 out of 176, joining other worst state in the ranking index such as Somalia, Myanmar and Afghanistan. Hence the need for the Sudanese people to pinpoint corruption in the Sudan is of the out most importance. Through this website you can voice your opinion, thoughts or issues that affect us all who are part of the Sudan. If you have a website that talk about corruption in Sudan please share it here, if you have experienced corruption at first hand tell us about your experience or even ways to fight corruptions. I would like to point out one important point and that is, this ushahidi map is for all of us so if you see there is a need for introducing a new category please feel free to suggest it and I would add it right away. Wish you all the best and looking forward to reading your comment, links or experience. Wish you all the best on your research and studies Thank you for reading this email Best regards SG -- P2P Foundation: http://p2pfoundation.net - http://blog.p2pfoundation.net Connect: http://p2pfoundation.ning.com; Discuss: http://lists.ourproject.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/p2p-foundation Updates: http://del.icio.us/mbauwens; http://friendfeed.com/mbauwens; http://twitter.com/mbauwens; http://www.facebook.com/mbauwens
