Re: [P2P-F] Farewell

Hi Michel! Well, I really feel sorry for you. You really must be desperate that you now feel the need to use offending means like posting private conversations to mailing lists without even asking for permission. I know you from times when you would not have done things like that :-( . Yesterday Michel Bauwens wrote: > needless to say Stefan, I'm really disappointed by the personal attitude > that shines true in this reply of yours, That is because I was interested in you as a person. Sorry for this. > and the refusal for a normal > conversation with facts, arguments (feelings are also okay, but loading shit > on another person is not okay). We had a normal conversation like you described. You took that normal conversation personal and left it. But probably you consider your contributions to these threads http:///www.oekonux.org/journal/list/archive/msg00701.html http:///www.oekonux.org/journal/list/archive/msg00752.html as a normal conversation. Indeed the last conversation we had and I would have considered normal was not of this type. Seems like that were better days... > So let me be clear that I'm not responding to you, as I have no desire to > continue this type of exchange, but for the community. And besides the members they sustain lots and lots of other persons. > who are usually paid by for-profit companies or as > freelancers on a marketplace ... i.e. the commons is not independently > sustainable for its members; In other words: The new principle didn't replace the old one completely yet. Of course not. When capitalism started with textile industry the feudal structures for producing food have not been replaced immediately. Demanding what you demand ignores history. > this is why I propose that commoners/peer > producers create their own structures for a more autonomous cycle of > reproduction. And they do - by extending peer production. We can see this transformation on a daily basis. Isn't this great? At this point no additional measure seems to be necessary. And if this changes at some point it should be measures which are compatible with peer production. Grüße Stefan

europe vs usa climate change attitudes
by Michel Bauwens 10 Oct '11

10 Oct '11

*Europeans Fear Climate Change More Than Financial Turmoil, Poll Shows*<http://www.guardian.co.uk/environment/2011/oct/07/europeans-climate-change-…> FIONA HARVEY - The Guardian (U.K.) *About half of all Americans don't even believe climate change exists; and Europeans fear it more than financial upheaval -- even in the midst of what they are presently experiencing. This is the power of the American corporatist disinformation machine.* Europeans believe that dangers of climate change represent a more serious problem than the current financial turmoil, according to a new poll. The Eurobarometer poll (pdf) suggests that the majority of the public in the European Union consider global warming to be one of the world's most serious problems, with one-fifth saying it is the single most serious problem. Overall, respondents said climate change was the second most serious issue facing the world, after poverty. Connie Hedegaard, European climate commissioner, said: "This is encouraging news. The survey shows that the citizens of Europe can see that economic challenges are not the only ones we face. A clear majority of Europeans expect their politicians and business leaders to address the serious climate challenge now." She said it was striking that the public were even more concerned about climate change than in the runup to the landmark Copenhagen summit on climate change in late 2009. The number of people rating climate change as a very serious problem has risen slightly, from 64% when the poll was last conducted in 2009, to 68% this year. When asked to rank the seriousness of the problem, people put it at 7.4 out of 10, compared with a score of 7.1 out of 10 two years ago. People also said there were economic benefits to tackling climate change, with eight out of 10 people saying that dealing with the problem would provide an economic boost and create jobs. Two years ago the number was just under two-thirds. There was also wide support for moving taxation to penalise greenhouse gas emissions and encourage energy efficiency, with an average of 68% of people across the EU in favour of such a move. However, there was less enthusiasm for people taking personal responsibility for tackling climate change. Only one in five said they took personal responsibility, with more people saying it was the responsibility of national governments, EU authorities and businesses. Despite this, most respondents said they had taken action to combat climate change and reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the previous six months. But for the greatest number that action was recycling household waste, which ranks fairly low on reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The results of the Eurobarometer poll were hailed by the European commission as evidence that the public across member states maintain support for measures to tackle climate change. The commission is currently engaged in an argument over whether to toughen the EU's target of cutting carbon dioxide emissions by 20% by 2020, compared with 1990 levels, to a more stretching target of cutting emissions by 30% by the same date. Hedegaard wants to toughen the target but she is opposed by several other commissioners, including the energy commissioner, Günther Oettinger. Hedegaard said on Friday: "The fact that more than three out of four Europeans see improving energy efficiency as a way to create jobs is a strong signal to Europe's decision makers. I see this poll very much as an encouragement for us in the commission to continue fighting for ambitious and concrete climate action in Europe." Rémi Gruet, regulatory adviser to the European Wind Energy Association, said: "Science and public opinion are pointing in the same direction: more action on climate change. The survey is a wake-up call to decision-makers who need to embrace the economic and competitive benefits of progress on energy efficiency and renewables. It would be a historic mistake to listen only to those who have vested interests in climate-damaging fossil technologies." The poll was conducted in June and questioned 27,000 people aged 15 and above in 27 countries. -- P2P Foundation: http://p2pfoundation.net - http://blog.p2pfoundation.net Connect: http://p2pfoundation.ning.com; Discuss: http://lists.ourproject.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/p2p-foundation Updates: http://del.icio.us/mbauwens; http://friendfeed.com/mbauwens; http://twitter.com/mbauwens; http://www.facebook.com/mbauwens

A bit of MMT humor: How I tracked down "The Market"
by ideasinc＠ee.net 10 Oct '11

10 Oct '11

Saturday, October 08, 2011 How I tracked down The Market By Dr. Gal Noir* http://neweconomicperspectives.blogspot.com/2011/10/how-i-tracked-down-mark… Partial text below I have been working as an undercover investigator of hijacked economic truths for many years. It doesn’t pay much, I work long hours, but I sleep well at night. It is the nagging questions that help me get up in the morning and do what I do. What is the economy for? Where has the middle class gone? Why have manufacturing jobs fled the US? Why is CEO-to-worker pay ratio 471:1 in the US, while it is only 20:1 in Canada? Why haven’t we wiped out unemployment once and for all? No, really. Permanently! Why do we have child hunger, mass poverty, and stunning income inequality in the richest country in the world? And everywhere I turn, I keep getting the same answers: “Because The Market said so! Because this is how The Market works. Because these are the laws of The Market.” After years of hearing about The Market, I had one simple question: Who. Is. The Market? Has anyone seen him? Has anyone talked to him? Gotten answers? Maybe asked him to change his ways? I cannot think of a single journalist, economists, or policy maker who has interviewed The Market. And then I knew…this was only a job only for Dr. Gal Noir. I wanted to hear more about The Market’s rationale for what seemed to be very disturbing developments. I wouldn’t normally investigate questions that are only of interest to me, but it turns out that The 99% have been asking the same questions too. Of course, we all know who The 99% are. Here are their stories and their faces. But no one seems to know exactly who The Market is! I kept hearing that if governments tried to regulate consumer products like home mortgages, credit cards, grocery food, children’s toys, etc… they will invariably injure The Market by interfering with his operations. So I wondered. What does The Market do? Is his work more sacred than mine or yours? Is his health more important than ours? Is his business so vital that he should never be disturbed? Perhaps I could find answers to these questions if I understood what The Market was for. What he was trying to do. What purpose did he serve? How did he work to achieve his goals? I figured that if I found him, I could interrupt him for just a little bit to ask him some questions. I meant no harm and I surely didn’t wish to injure him. A short little interview never hurt anybody, right? (continued at http://neweconomicperspectives.blogspot.com/2011/10/how-i-tracked-down-mark…
