Fwd: [Networked-Labour] In case you missed - The Bail Out Business | TNI Report
by Michel Bauwens 16 May '17

16 May '17

*The Bail Out Business* is the most comprehensive and thorough analysis of the steps taken since the 2008 financial crisis to understand who benefits from rescue packages in the EU. Above all, it highlights the role of the Big Four (audit firms) and a small coterie of financial consultancy firms in the business of designing and implementing bail out programs in EU Member States. Authors Sol Trumbo Vila <https://www.tni.org/en/bio/sol-trumbo-vila>, Matthijs Peters <https://www.tni.org/en/profile/matthijs-peters> Projects Corporate Power <https://www.tni.org/en/corporate-power>, Democratising Europe <https://www.tni.org/en/work-area/democratising-europe>, Public Sector Alternatives <https://www.tni.org/en/public-sector-alternatives> Bail outs in the EU have a hidden cost for taxpayers. On top of the public money used for the bail outs, contracts worth hundreds of millions of Euro have been given to a small number of financial consultants to advise member states and EU institutions. The so-called Big Four audit firms (EY, Deloitte, KPMG and PWC), with a small coterie of financial advisors, have designed the bloc's most important rescue packages. Bail out consultants have also been rewarded with new business, even though many gave poor advice or failed to raise the alarm at crucial moments. For years we have been investigating austerity measures and vast privatisation programmes in Europe. Following our last report on the privatising industry in Europe we decided to hone in on those firms involved in the numerous EU bail out programmes and found a shockingly similar pattern. The Bail-out Business reveals the hidden costs of the rescue packages and a troubling array of conflicts of interest. *Correction 23/2/2017: Lazard was paid 3 million euros for a few days work* Watch the video: _______________________________________________ Networked-labour_igopnet mailing list Networked-labour_igopnet(a)lists.igopnet.cc http://grups.pangea.org/mailman/listinfo/networked-labour_igopnet -- Check out the Commons Transition Plan here at: http://commonstransition.org P2P Foundation: http://p2pfoundation.net - http://blog.p2pfoundation.net <http://lists.ourproject.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/p2p-foundation>Updates: http://twitter.com/mbauwens; http://www.facebook.com/mbauwens #82 on the (En)Rich list: http://enrichlist.org/the-complete-list/

You are receiving this email because, as you know, we need your help to change the political nature and landscape <https://mailtrack.io/trace/link/62edc88ff6e3519ca6814dbb73ce052615ae0c75?ur…> of the city we all live in and love: Brussels. *I am sending you this personally because we ran into problems reaching to people that expressed interest in joining this essential meeting - and I don't want to leave anyone out! * So, if you have already read this and confirmed your presence, (thank you! and) please ignore this email. If you haven't, and are interested in joining us, please do so using this link <https://mailtrack.io/trace/link/e28f0a88bba27de44f48ff550c9b247c8eaac375?ur…> - also provided below ;) Thanks a lot and I really hope to see you soon! Guilherme ------------------------------ When citizens’ lists run and win elections, they can alter the social and economic reality of their city, and bring up new paradigms of participation, new spaces for citizen initiatives, social impact, experimentation, local and circular economies, transparency and engagement. When citizens’ lists run and win elections, they gain the power to design the world that surrounds them. We are many wanting that for Brussels - so let’s build it together! As you know, we are organizing a first meeting/work session, gathering extraordinary people that work with citizens and societal issues everyday, that can mobilize and activate networks, and that want to move and do! With the (amazing!) support of professional facilitators, volunteering to make this happen, we have designed a workshop that will allow us to: 1. create a shared reality (WHY we want to come together and organize), 2. have everyone's interest/consent to advance towards elections in 2018, 3. do a collaborative needs/opportunities assessment (logistical only; *no policy yet*) - How can we build/be a resilient, effective and self-organizing movement 4. build working groups around clusters of needs 5. come up with timelines and priorities (for long term + next months) The meeting will take place on Thursday 18th of May, at the MuntPunt (Place de la Monnaie 6, 1000 Bruxelles), from 2 - 6 pm. If you are still interested, we ask you to take 2 minutes and PLEASE CONFIRM YOUR ATTENDANCE <https://mailtrack.io/trace/link/cc7c61407145d05a180ab1a163a99146b8f92406?ur…> - as we will not be able to accommodate more than 50 people in this first meeting. Fwd: Athens 9-11 June, UniverSSE 2017, 4th European congress of Social Solidarity Economy

---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Kris Giov <krisgiov(a)yahoo.com> Date: Sun, May 14, 2017 at 3:24 PM Subject: Athens 9-11 June, UniverSSE 2017, 4th European congress of Social Solidarity Economy To: "karaokecasulties(a)yahoo.co.uk" <karaokecasulties(a)yahoo.co.uk> Dear all, I hope you are all well and active in these contradictory, dangerous and interesting times we live in. On the occasion of the European conference that we (a number of social and solidarity economy, cooperatives and commons networks) are organizing in Athens, I am catching the opportunity to get in contact with you again and send you this ray of hope that still burns under the shadow of the prevailing post-2015 referendum disempowerment and disillusionment. Despite this bleak atmosphere we decided to organize this European conference of Social and Solidarity Economy (SSE) in Athens and to name it UniverSSE 2017, as an act of resistance and an attempt to bring together and give visibility to the entire ecosystem of alternatives the people in Greece and in Europe have been trying to built the last years. This is our way to carry on and built on the inroads and achievements we managed the previous period, wiser (we hope) from our shortages and mistakes, but not discouraged. We ask you to help us in our efforts to this new phase by spreading the word about our UniverSSE, of which more information you can find here Be part of | Πάρε μέρος | Prenez part | Sea parte | Partecipa | Seien Sie Teil - UniverSSE 2017 <https://universse2017.org/en/> and also to help us to let no one who wants to be part of the UniverSSE 2017 behind by donating in our crowdfunding campaign and / or disseminating the news about it. Our aim is to raise the funds to bring members of grassroots groups outside Athens and from the Balkans in the conference, as we really want to include all and enhance our networks both on national, regional and international levels. For the same reason there are no fees for one to be part or to organize any of the 40 events in the three days meeting. We know that non of us is reach, but also we know we can count on our friends, as many times has been proven. In case you need more info, do not hesitate to contact me, or, to contact directly UniverSSE 2017 in info(a)universse2017.org I am wishing you all the best and look forward to hearing from you soon. ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Nicole LEONARD <nicole.leonard(a)sciencespo.fr> Date: Thu, May 11, 2017 at 11:09 AM Subject: ECA Weekend June 9-11: Municipalism in BCN and SSE in Athens To: commonswatch(a)lists.p2pfoundation.net Dear commoners, The ECA will soon be having a big weekend, June 9-11! We will be present at two separate events in Barcelona and Athens. We encourage those of you who are close to attend if possible (unfortunately we do not have enough funds to support travel). If you cannot make it, look for follow-up articles on the experiences there. Contact for both up until the event is through this ECA Weekend thread <https://www.loomio.org/d/yE60lQhK> on loomio. **Friday June 9 - ECA side event at Fearless Cities Barcelona (organized by BCN en Comú, June 9-11)* Fearless Cities <http://fearlesscities.com/>, an international municipalist summit which takes place in Barcelona from June 9-11, is sharing local experiences in different cities of the municipalist movement. One of their focuses is on commons. As part of their program, there will be an event for the ECA on Friday June 9. The tentative format is an open assembly to discuss municipalism and the commons followed by a work session to share experiences and develop the ECA proposal on urban commons <http://wiki.commonstransition.org/wiki/ECA:_The_Urban_Commons>. The exact time and location will be announced shortly. We expect this to be a point of departure for the next ECA in Madrid in late October this year. Additionally, the organizers of Fearless Cities are still looking for testimonies from women on local experiences of urban commoning and municipalism to add to their program. If you are interested in presenting please get in touch with the organizers: fearlesscities(a)bcnencomu.cat *If you plan to attend* the ECA side event, please help us out by signing up HERE <https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSclKYnTzT_LVQWEV35mmCpfBc65C-e4a3r…>(takes 1 min.) It’s a useful way to stay in touch for updates. Link- register for Fearless Cities <http://fearlesscities.com/registration-workshops-and-roundtables/>. It’s not necessary to participate in the ECA event, but it is if you want to participate in other Fearless Cities events. **June 9-11, Assembly and Policy Workshop at the 4th Social Solidarity Economy Congress in Athens * The 4th Social and Solidarity Congress <https://universse2017.org/>, where RIPESS is also holding their 6th General Assembly, features the commons as a thematic axis and includes many commons sessions. The ECA will host two activities there. The exact times (along with more info on content) are still TBA. (1) Open Assembly: “What Economy for the Commons?” - Exploring convergence between SSE and commons We will hold an 2-hour session of short panel and then open discussion to explore our mutual understanding of how the commons and social and solidarity economy relate to each other. It is also an opportunity to discover the ECA, make new introductions, and connect with local commoners. (2) Workshop: European policy for SSE and Commons After the assembly, we focus on developing policy for the commons and SSE. We are particularly interested in sharing examples and tactics for commons policy. This is a way to prepare concrete proposals for the November Forum for the Social and Solidarity Economy in Brussels at the EP, and to continue to develop the ECA proposal on <http://wiki.commonstransition.org/wiki/ECA:_Social_and_Solidarity_Economy_a…>Social and Solidarity Economy and Participation <http://wiki.commonstransition.org/wiki/ECA:_Social_and_Solidarity_Economy_a…> . *If you plan to attend *either of these two sessions, please help us out by SIGNING UP HERE. <https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSd6IGZjPlfl1Nn9SvlTJ4xmMICyPZiDyZi…> This will ensure you get updates as they arise. BComu in Barcelona trying to self-define itself as being beyond the party form, but not yet or really a movement, but something in between: "We have to move from one side to the other, acting as a porous interface between institutions of government and institutions of the commons, being more movement at some times and more party in others. Above all, we must seek the cracks in the institutional structures of government and in the suffocating political-institutional fight, in order to go beyond the transformational capacity of traditional parties." https://medium.com/@BComuGlobal/barcelona-en-com%C3%BA-party-vs-movement-a8… -- Check out the Commons Transition Plan here at: http://commonstransition.org P2P Foundation: http://p2pfoundation.net - http://blog.p2pfoundation.net <http://lists.ourproject.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/p2p-foundation>Updates: http://twitter.com/mbauwens; http://www.facebook.com/mbauwens #82 on the (En)Rich list: http://enrichlist.org/the-complete-list/

Isn't the market itself a commons? Roberto Verzola
by Michel Bauwens 10 May '17

hi Roberto, in my view, the answer is no, in the sense that 1) markets are about exchange, commons are about pooling and sharing resources 2) nothing is a commons, unless there is commoning and commons governance so I believe that market'places' and market'spaces' can be made into commons for example if we take digital marketplaces like uber and airbnb, they are emphatically not commons, but if the platform becomes a shared resources for participants, they they could be the commons of that marketplace, Michel On Tue, May 9, 2017 at 5:00 PM, <p2p-foundation-request(a)lists.ourproject.org > wrote: > Message: 2 > Date: Mon, 8 May 2017 18:53:56 +0800 > From: Roberto Verzola <rverzola(a)gn.apc.org> > To: P2P Foundation mailing list <p2p-foundation(a)lists.ourproject.org> > Cc: "Rainer v.
