Already there are lawsuits and some insurers are failing to pay out. Thanks to EPA's failure to adequately control its use, things will be much worse in 2018 when many more GMO-tolerant cotton and soybean seeds become available. WEBCAST FRI/SAT/SUN: Radical Networks Conference in Brooklyn #radnets17
by Joly MacFie 20 Oct '17

20 Oct '17

This is just kicking off - a little behind schedule because the first speaker cancelled - it's always a fairly ad hoc affair. There really is no other quite conference like it - combining network tech, art, and activism - as it does. On *Friday-Sunday November 20-22 2017* the *2016 Radical Networks Conference <http://radicalnetworks.org/>* will be held in Brooklyn NYC. The Radical Networks conference brings together artists, educators, and technologists to discuss the future of alternative networks in the context of community. Presenters include *Mehan Jayasuriya <http://radicalnetworks.org/participants/mehan-jayasuriya>* and *Alfredo Lopez* <http://radicalnetworks.org/participants/alfredo-lopez>. Warning re EFF
by Kevin Carson 17 Oct '17

17 Oct '17

I don't know if we P2PF has any official dealings with Electronic Frontier Foundation, but based on this very disturbing Twitter thread I recommend thinking long and hard about whatever ties exist so long as John Gilmore (yes, that Gilmore -- "treats it as damage and routes around it") is on their Board or otherwise connected with them. https://twitter.com/isislovecruft/status/920150647445401601 TL;DR, Gilmore is buds with Jake Applebaum, and has harassed Applebaum's accusers. And he sent Casey William Hardison, an ex-con with apparent neo-nazi leanings, to an EFF party to accost Isis and create an incident with her. She has bruises from it. -- Kevin Carson Senior Fellow, Center for a Stateless Society http://c4ss.org "You have no authority that we are bound to respect" -- John Perry Barlow "We are legion. commons and households
by Michel Bauwens 16 Oct '17

thanks Kevin, good point, Michel Message: 1 Date: Sat, 14 Oct 2017 14:13:47 -0500 From: Kevin Carson <free.market.anticapitalist(a)gmail.com> To: P2P Foundation mailing list <p2p-foundation(a)lists.ourproject.org> Subject: Re: [P2P-F] thinking true meta-governance and the gaps in p2p theory regarding the household economy Message-ID: <CANETeEz58DrDsYAbc9bnak18Z5JnFZHUN102QtdQbXj13VFLuA(a)mail.gmail.com> Content-Type: text/plain; charset="UTF-8" IMO the boundary between the household and the larger informal/social economy is very permeable. The nuclear family household is relatively recent and artificial, and to a considerable extent encouraged by 20th century capitalism's promotion of social atomization which reduced the household to the smallest possible size which would still socialize the costs of reproducing labor-power and the culture of obedience without providing a potential base for cost-, income- and risk-pooling which might increase the bargaining power of labor. It's quite likely that as total labor hours decline and precarity increases, we'll see a lot more not only of multi-generational houses but of multi-family cohousing, micro-villages and the like that internalize an increasing share of direct production for use. -- Check out the Commons Transition Plan here at: http://commonstransition.org P2P Foundation: http://p2pfoundation.net - http://blog.p2pfoundation.net <http://lists.ourproject.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/p2p-foundation>Updates: http://twitter.com/mbauwens; http://www.facebook.com/mbauwens #82 on the (En)Rich list: http://enrichlist.org/the-complete-list/
