'*We (Colin Anderson, Csilla Kiss, Michel Pimbert) are at the Centre for Agroecology, Water and Resilience (CAWR) at Coventry University and are working with a group of social movement organizations, farmer organizations and progressive research/advocacy groups in Europe and beyond to promote a bottom-up or People's agroecology that is embedded within the food sovereignty movement in contrast to a technocratic agroecology being promoted by powerful institutions. As a part of this, we work to amplify the voice and perspective of food providers and to work together on participatory action research that brings resources to the struggles through the co-production of knowledge and action. Our partners in Europe include the Land Workers' Alliance, the European Coordination of LVC, GRAIN and others.'* (Agroecology is still not a word that is recognised by my computer) Anna _______________________________________________ NetworkedLabour mailing list NetworkedLabour(a)lists.contrast.org http://lists.contrast.org/mailman/listinfo/networkedlabour -- Check out the Commons Transition Plan here at: http://commonstransition.org P2P Foundation: http://p2pfoundation.net - http://blog.p2pfoundation.net <http://lists.ourproject.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/p2p-foundation>Updates: http://twitter.com/mbauwens; http://www.facebook.com/mbauwens #82 on the (En)Rich list: http://enrichlist.org/the-complete-list/

Excessive and generally incoherent investments in information technology, including scattered attempts to achieve artificial intelligence, have resulted in the neglect of 99% of all relevant information, a failure to invest in information-sharing and sense-making tools, a failure to nurture human intelligence (HUMINT) networks, and a failure to capitalize on the radical (root) value represented by holistic analytics with embedded true cost economics. In passing, because of government corruption enabling predatory industrial practices, we have also neglected open source everything engineering without which we cannot achieve truly smart cities or smart nations or a prosperous world that works for all. A Global Brain that more ably melds human and artificial intelligence is a potential advance enabling the technological shaping of our future, and positive social change. The four approaches to creating a Global Brain include organicism, encyclopedism, emergentism, and evolutionary cybernetics. The limitations of computer processing and scientific reductionism are briefly reviewed in order to reject organicism and encyclopedism as primary approaches. A way forward is outlined that restores the centrality of the human factor in accelerating emergentism and evolutionary cybernetics. An Open Source (Technologies) Agency is proposed as a platform for blending artificial intelligence with human intelligence in full transparency – a Global Brain / World Brain network and tool-kit that connects all minds to all information in all languages all the time. Fwd: [NetworkedLabour] Fwd: IMPORTANT GLOBAL DAY ACTION 18TH DECEMBER 2015 (ENGLISH/FRANCAIS/ESPAñOL/ITALIANO)

---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Orsan Senalp <orsan1234(a)gmail.com> Date: 2015-10-17 19:14 GMT+07:00 Subject: [NetworkedLabour] Fwd: IMPORTANT GLOBAL DAY ACTION 18TH DECEMBER 2015 (ENGLISH/FRANCAIS/ESPAñOL/ITALIANO) To: "<networkedlabour(a)lists.contrast.org>" < networkedlabour(a)lists.contrast.org> Begin forwarded message: *From:* Edda Pando <eddapando(a)gmail.com> *Date:* 17 Oct 2015 00:41:27 GMT+2 *To:* undisclosed-recipients:; *Subject:* *IMPORTANT GLOBAL DAY ACTION 18TH DECEMBER 2015 (ENGLISH/FRANCAIS/ESPAñOL/ITALIANO)* *ENGLISH* Dear brothers and sisters, dear friends, I am writing regarding the 12/18/2015 Global Day of Action against racism, for the rights and dignity of migrants, refugees, and displaced people. Please forgive my tardiness in writing to you, but you all are aware of the circumstances in Europe, which kept me from addressing you sooner. Since there are newly added people on the mailing list, let me start with a brief premise about how the Dec. 18th Global Day of Action was born and what its objectives are. In 2010, during the World Forum on Migration in Quito, organizations like Arci, Comité Promotor del Tribunal Internacional de Conciencia, Manifesto Euro-Africain, Migreurop and MIREDES proposed a seminar titled “For a world-wide day of strike in favor of the rights and dignity of migrant workers, for justice, and against racism*!*”. This initiative was meant to reflect the various activism events from May 1st in the USA and from March 1st in Europe (“A day without us”). In the debate emerging at the seminar, many attendees recognized the usefulness of the type of dialogue developing during the Forum on Migration. The Forum itself was recognized as an important venue in which the participants could get to know each other, and connect with other organizations who also work to defend the rights of migrants. Nevertheless, the attendees lamented the lack of a world-wide initiative which would allow the migrants’ movement as a whole, along with its supporters, to recognize each other, and to better position themselves as a united transational front. In the final assembly of the 2010 World Forum on Migrantion, this exact need was identified, followed by a unanimous vote for a day of global mobilization on December 18th, against racism and for the rights and dignity of migrants, refugees, and displaced people. The goal of the Global Day of Action is to give more visibility to the many organizations working for migrants’ rights, and to promote their coming together. The date of December 18th was chosen because it was on this day, in 1990, that the UN General Assembly adopted the International Convention on the Rights of Migrant Workers and their Families. To this end, the website: *globalmigrantsaction.org <http://globalmigrantsaction.org> *was created. This site, managed by Edda Pando (Arci-Italy) and Sergio Reyes (Boston Committee May Day), will publish all activities taking place on or around December 18th. Anyone willing to lend a hand in updating the events calendar is more than welcome. The site does not “belong” to any particular organization, and it is simply a drop-box for upcoming events of various organizations. We ask these organizations to add the Global Day of Action symbol (here in attachments) to the ones they already use. December 18th is only two months away; now more than ever, it is necessary to have a day of world-wide mobilization to affirm the dignity and the rights of migrants, refugees, and displaced people! The war against migrant people is becoming more and more bloody. The number of victims along national borders is ever-rising, as are border militarization and violence by the nations in the world’s north. Racist and xenophobic movements are taking hold inside institutional and political bodies, as well as within society at large. At the same time, however, whole sectors of society are rejecting the order imposed by the State, and instead support migrants in their quest to overtake national borders. Indeed, there are thousands of organizations and volunteers working to offer assistance and hospitality to migrants and refugees. It would be very important to fill the Global Migrant Action’s web page with events programmed for next December 18th, and we know that many organizations are already preparing activities for that day. Now, those events just have to be tied together, and added to the website’s calendar to give a fuller picture of the strength and global scope of our movement. We are therefore calling on all organization, and we ask them to send us information about their upcoming events, so that they may be publicized on the Global Migrant Action webpage. *http://globalmigrantsaction.org/ <http://globalmigrantsaction.org/>* As in past years, a brief announcement will be sent out in four languages (English, French, Spanish, and Italian) in the next few days, in which you will be asked for your suggestions, and which will then be published on our home page, and used as roll call for the day. A global day of action against racism, and for the rights of migrants, refugees, and displaced people, is possible: next December 18th. Questa pagina web viene gestita tecnicamente da Edda Pando (Arci-Italia) e Sergio Reyes (Boston Comitee May Day). Fwd: [NetworkedLabour] Critical Perspectives on Social Media and Protest

---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Lina Dencik <DencikL(a)cardiff.ac.uk> Date: Fri, Oct 16, 2015 at 5:46 PM Subject: [NetworkedLabour] Critical Perspectives on Social Media and Protest To: peter waterman <peterwaterman1936(a)gmail.com>, WSFDiscuss List < WorldSocialForum-Discuss(a)openspaceforum.net>, "< networkedlabour(a)lists.contrast.org>" <networkedlabour(a)lists.contrast.org> Possibly of interest… New book: “Critical Perspectives on Social Media and Protest: Between Control and Emancipation” Editors: Lina Dencik & Oliver Leistert Publisher: Rowman & Littlefield http://www.rowmaninternational.com/books/critical-perspectives-on-social-me… This book critically interrogates the relationship between social media and protest from an interdisciplinary perspective, examining the multiple ways in which we need to politicize and contextualise commercial social media platforms, in particular with regards to their use for the purposes of anti-systemic and progressive protest movements. Commercial social media platforms have become integral to contemporary forms of protests. They are intensely used by advocacy groups, non-governmental organisations, social movements and other political actors who increasingly integrate social media platforms into broader practices of organizing and campaigning. But, aside from the many advantages of extensive mobilization opportunities at low cost, what are the implications of social media corporations being involved in these grassroots movements? This book takes a much-needed critical approach to the relationship between social media and protest. Highlighting key issues and concerns in contemporary forms of social media activism, including questions of censorship, surveillance, individualism, and temporality, the book combines contributions from some of the most active scholars in the field today. Advancing both conceptual and empirical work on social media and protest, and with a range of different angles, the book provides a fresh and challenging outlook on a very topical debate. “At last, a collection on social media and protest that is genuinely critical, spanning both the nature of the technological tools the political-economic environment they are part of, the organisational responses these formations then lend themselves to and the political consequences they reap. Rich in detail, broad in remit, interrogatory by design this will be my ‘turn to’ book on this subject for years to come.” - Natalie Fenton, Professor of Media and Communications, Goldsmiths University of London “Refusing simple explanations and traversing protest movements from around the globe, this collection is essential reading for academics and activists alike. The volume interrogates the power and systemic shortcomings of corporate-based social media as deployed during moments of revolution, rupture, and dissent. Operating simultaneously as an authoritative force that regiments social relations and a fetishistic object that congeals desires, these media are shot through with a series of contradictions.” - Gabriella Coleman, Wolfe Chair in Scientific and Technological Literacy Department of Art History & Communication Studies, McGill University “This collection provides a much-needed antidote to the ready equation of social media and political empowerment. It counters the cyber-hype with a truly critical collection of readings that explore the political limits and potentials of social media. This is a crucial volume for anyone interested in the key political question of our time: the relationship between media technology and activism.” - Mark Andrejevic, Associate Professor of Media Studies, Pomona College Contents: 1. Here, the past 10 days has seen publication of Taking Power Back: http://www.policypress.co.uk/display.asp?K=9781447326878 by Simon Parker of NLGN – a commons oriented approach to redesigning local government, as it is faced with the challenges that are helpfully outlined in Deloitte’s new ‘The State of the State’: http://www2.deloitte.com/uk/en/pages/public-sector/articles/state-of-the-st… - and with a welcome mention of the Common Libraries initiative. Otherwise, we set out the following ideas and have amassed a modest R&D Fund from local government finance directors in x11 areas to progress associated activities, some 12 months after we began talking to you all about some of them: *Rethinking Capital Development & Deployment to Obtain Revenue Outcomes* *Land* 1 Decommodify Land and Buildings 2 Invite Innovation in Housing Development 3 Map, Publicise and Share Infrastructure 4 Cooperate – Capital for Revenue Working *Labour* 5 Invite Collaboration Proposals / Agreements 6 Issue Challenges & Pilot Innovative Collaborations 7 Incentivise Collaboration 8 Explore a New Inter-Generational Settlement *Capital* 9 Establish Invest to Innovate Governance (R&D Government) 10 Explore Donations, Subscriptions and Crowd Funds 11 Decommodify Money for Liquidity in Deprived Neighbourhoods 12 Share Patient, Low-Cost Investment Capital 13 Introduce Alternative Currencies & Virtuous Procurement *Enterprise* 14 Income Generation Opportunities 15 Inward Social Enterprise Investment Strategies 16 Invite Public : Social Partnerships – Open Coops *Technology* 17 Support Self-Build Open Networks 18 Pilot Whitespace Use & Wi-Fi Hotspot Loans 19 Establish Public : Social ISPs 20 Explore Blockchain Contracts and Currencies 21 Develop “Our Data” Initiatives with Business / Communities I’ll let you know how we get on / as and when we would welcome your expert input! But, if anyone knows how we might attract £££ to progress (8) - which is about ‘re-writing the Beveridge Report’ and underpinned by ideas related to the inter-generational transfer of housing equity in the form of ‘community wills’ - I’m all ears…because, they didn’t “get” how that could help to re-float social care budgets under increasing pressure, but we think we may well have ourselves some ideas as to how to take that forward. Fwd: Celebrating the Future at Bristol's New Economy Summit

---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: jules peck <jules(a)flourishingenterprise.org> Date: Fri, Oct 16, 2015 at 3:39 PM Subject: Celebrating the Future at Bristol's New Economy Summit To: jules peck <jules(a)flourishingenterprise.org> Hi all I thought you might be interested in my latest blog. If you like it tweet it and circulate it. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/jules-peck/celebrating-the-future-at_b_829311… Celebrating the Future at Bristol's New Economy Summit This week I had the great pleasure to be one of the hosts of a wonderfully energetic and creative two-day summit on the new economy in Bristol, asking what the future could look like for money, business, ownership, cities and much more. The event drew 180 people from Bristol, the UK and places as far flung as Brazil, Spain, Greece, Chile, Thailand, Germany and S Africa. The diversity of people made the event a powerful mix of ideas and practice, with attendees from the worlds of social enterprise, business, local and regional government, academia, think tanks, social movements, faiths, finance, higher education, healthcare and philanthropy. [image: 2015-10-15-1444893626-7370885-BNES15_122asMarkSimmons.jpg] <http://images.huffingtonpost.com/2015-10-15-1444893626-7370885-BNES15_122as…> The aim of the event was to explore and celebrate the explosion of new economy experiments that are surfacing all around the world in response to the great challenges of our times, poverty, environmental meltdown and systemic failures in everything from finance to trust. We also wanted to showcase and celebrate practical examples of the way Bristol city bioregion - home to initiatives like Happy City, Bristol Pounds, Bristol Prospects, Real Economy Cooperative, Transition Bristol, the Real Economy Lab - is responding to these challenges with new economy innovations. A stellar line-up <http://bristolpound.org/bne2015-programme> of speakers over the two days included; Michel Bauwens of the P2P Foundation, James Berry from Bristol Credit Union, Fran Boait of Positive Money, Bristol's Mayor George Ferguson, Tony Greenham of the RSA, Catherine Howarth from ShareAction, Diego La Moneda from Economy for the Common Good, Constance Laisné of Altgen Youth Coop, Ed Mayo from Cooperatives UK, Amanda Feldman from B Lab UK, Ciaran Mundy of The Bristol Pound, Dan O'Neill from University of Leeds, Jules Peck from the Real Economy Lab, Kate Raworth of Doughnut Eonomics, Molly Scott Cato MEP, John Thackara of Doors of Perception, Sarah Toy from Bristol city Council, and Liz Zeidler from Happy City. You can explore the event as it unfolded yourselves through photos and tweets on the event's storify <https://storify.com/BristolPound/bristol-new-economy-summit-2015?awesm=sfy.…> . To kick off we explored 'doughnut economics' - how we can find a safe space for human wellbeing on our highly threatened one planet and how the 'eclipsing of capitalism' which Jeremy Rifkin <http://www.thezeromarginalcostsociety.com/> and Paul Mason <http://www.theguardian.com/books/2015/jul/17/postcapitalism-end-of-capitali…> have recently described, and growing band of next economy movements and experiments is responding to these challenges. [image: 2015-10-15-1444893827-2016210-BNES15_201asMarkSimmons.jpg] <http://images.huffingtonpost.com/2015-10-15-1444893827-2016210-BNES15_201as…> It was clear during the two days that Bristol is very much a beating heart of UK (if not global) innovation on these issues. So it was fitting that in his slot Bristol's Mayor George Ferguson, who has long been a strong champion for all things new economy, threw down a gauntlet and invitation to us all to use Bristol as a laboratory for experimentation and innovation on next economy thinking and practice. I expect many of us will hold him to his promise to support Bristol staying at the cutting edge of these issues. One thing that was very clear throughout is that Thatcher was wrong - there are alternatives, they are all around us if we just tune into them. We heard from leading thinkers and practitioners from across the worlds of new economy ownership, finance, enterprise models, the future of cities and their bioregions. We explored what a new p2p 'commons' ownership world might look like and heard about the hundreds of enterprise models around the world already working in a p2p, collaborative and commons orientated way. A host of other issues were surfaced and debated including things like citizens incomes, alternative currencies, interest free money, credit unions, community land trusts, open-cooperatives, the Chamber of the Commons and much much more. Diego De La Moneda described what a new Economy for the Common Good <https://www.ecogood.org/en> might look like for businesses and local government and how hundreds of companies and a network of Cities from Santiago in Chile to Barcelona, London (and soon hopefully Bristol) are putting the Economy for the Common Good vision into practice in a Global Hub for the Common Good <http://www.commongoodhub.com/>. Breaking with traditional 'listen and learn' style conference formats, the summit used 'open-space' social technology and discourse sessions throughout, and was focused on everyone sharing their thoughts and plans and collaborating in break-out groups and feed-back sessions to look for ways we could all work together for the common good. And this wasn't just about talking - by the end of the two days there were long lists of new initiatives people had hatched up over the event. One of many highlights of the event for me was hearing Sarah Toy from Bristol City Council talking about her vision for what the City can do and indeed is doing to put Bristol in the vanguard of sustainable, liveable and new economy cities. With Bristol being this year's EU Green Capital <https://www.bristol2015.co.uk/> and being one of the $100m Rockefeller Foundation's 100 Resilient Cities initiative <http://www.100resilientcities.org/cities#/-_/>, I'm hoping Bristol can help show other city-bioregions leadership and inspiration in modelling what a city for the Common Good can look and feel like. [image: 2015-10-15-1444893967-4052707-BNES15_234asMarkSimmons.jpg] <http://images.huffingtonpost.com/2015-10-15-1444893967-4052707-BNES15_234as…> Judging by the energy in the room over the two days, feedback from attendees and the amount of twitter activity <https://storify.com/BristolPound/bristol-new-economy-summit-2015?awesm=sfy.…>, I think its fair to say the audience enjoyed the event as much as we hosts did. To be honest the only worrying thing about the event was the number of people who are now asking us to repeat the summit on a regular basis........ *Jules peck is convenor of the Real Economy Lab <http://www.realeconomylab.org/>, which is building an open-space, open-access platform to act as hub to support the coming together of a global movement of movements on all things 'next economy'. His co-hosts at the summit were Angela Raffle, Simone Osborn, Peter Lipman, Dave Hunter and Ciaran Mundy. This is a very nicely designed site and the lab looks very elegant and professional. The photos are excellent. But it may be worth considering noting the location of the lab more prominently. People in this forum might easily deduce this project being in Greece, having heard much about the activity and folks involved previously, but the random visitor will only be able to find the location noted on the 'contacts' page. It might help to note location on a few more pages, particularly on the 'about' and 'facilities' pages. I'm very interested in the 'design global, manufacture local' aspect of the planned research and am wondering if there are project plans for local experimental implementation in Greece or if the plan is, for now, just to document projects of other organizations and programs. My own Open House project ( http://www.appropedia.org/Open_House:_Building_an_Open_Source_Lifestyle ) is looking to do something similar or related by cataloging, and eventually showcasing with a video documentary, the open source designs necessary for a functional owner/local-built lifestyle. There's a certain focus on personal 'unplugging' in this (ie. the use of new production on the household/personal level to unplug from market dependency) but I also intend to illustrate the potential in the community context as well. It's one of a number of concepts I've been exploring recently to apply the approach of 'living museums' (like the many viking or bronze age village re-creations in Europe or the colonial era villages in the US) to the exhibition of future culture and lifestyle rather than their usual focus on the distant past. I think that one of the key things that could facilitate a grounding of theory into practice is to look at the logistics of lifestyle; how our daily routine actually works as a system to meet our needs at a given standard-of-living. Those living museums go to great lengths to illustrate for the public how past, pre-industrial, lifestyle functioned, but, ironically, we generally have a very dim awareness of how our lifestyles actually work in the present, let alone the near future. This is because the market system conceals its workings from us--now putting much of them in other distant countries--leaving us industrially illiterate and unable to imagine viable alternatives. And so we interface to the market as though it were an enormous vending machine, its inner workings mysterious and locked away, our means of interaction strictly limited to just a coin slot and some buttons as designed by--and suiting the interests of--whoever built this thing. As I often say, as far as the average American is concerned, the supermarket gets restocked each night by Santa Claus and his Chinese elves. And this results in a lot of difficulty when we try to implement alternative infrastructures or attempt to create intentional communities. People are always underestimating just how much goes into maintaining their standard of living since they've never seen anything but the front end of that great vending machine and rely largely on fractured and romanticized myths about life in the past to imagine some 'simpler' life without it. People are always thinking living off the land is as easy as a cob cottage with a victory garden until that day they're drawing straws to see who gets to give the axe to one of the chickens they named. Maybe we should be reverse-engineering our lifestyles as a start to hacking that machine, revealing its inner workings, and re-engineering it to suit our interests. > Subject: > [P2P-F] Fwd: P2P Lab: Papers, Call & Plans for 2016 > From: > Michel Bauwens <michel(a)p2pfoundation.net> > Date: > 10/13/15, 8:32 AM > > To: > p2p-foundation <p2p-foundation(a)lists.ourproject.org> > > > > ---------- Forwarded message ---------- > From: *Vasilis Kostakis* <kostakis.b(a)gmail.com > <mailto:[email protected]>> > Date: Tue, Oct 13, 2015 at 8:18 PM > Subject: P2P Lab: Papers, Call & Plans for 2016 > To: > > > > Dear colleagues and friends, > > In this email you may find links to the published work of the P2P Lab > collaborators & fellows for 2015.
