One of the working groups is specifically on Intellectual property, and we would welcome broader participation. I am also fleshing out my Decentralized Governance Whitepaper, and would welcome co-authors on some portions. Here is part of the outline I have so far: https://www.dropbox.com/s/16wf39e2zmra8yg/Screenshot%202014-12-26%2012.12.2… https://www.dropbox.com/s/rvx9m18rkwrmnui/Screenshot%202014-12-26%2012.12.5… I personally believe that we are at the beginning of the most significant opportunity to reclaim the commons that has occurred in the past two centuries and that blockchain technology has an extraordinary role to play. On this note, I also recommend my article on the "Second Wave of Blockchain Innovation" https://medium.com/@Swarm/the-second-wave-of-blockchain-innovation-270e6daf… Best, Jd On Wed, Aug 6, 2014 at 10:21 PM, Michel Bauwens <michel(a)p2pfoundation.net> wrote: > hi Joel, > > in any case, the research material will be in cc and can be shared, > > I personally have a pre-agreement with a foundation to make this proposal > to them, so I will go ahead, but let's then aim for matching funds through > a crowdfunding campaign, but for which I won't have to time, but we will of > course support the spread of its messages etc .. > > I think both can be done in parallel > > will be working on the proposal today and invite people here in for > comments etc .. > > Michel > > > On Thu, Aug 7, 2014 at 6:57 AM, Joel Dietz <joel(a)swarmcorp.com> wrote: > >> I strongly suggest crowdfunding with the results to be released into the >> shared commons >> >> although potentially more difficult from a standpoint of fundraising >> (although it is possible that the whole amount could be carried out from >> the standpoint of a single organization, like Ethereum), it has the >> incredible benefit of being forced to develop something that is immediately >> usable >> >> this means that at the end of your project you will have something of >> utility that can be shared >> >> I'm also pretty much planning to do this whether or not the p2pfoundation >> pushes it forwards, because establishing a 'cryptocommons' is very >> important to me and other folks in the 2.0 space >> >> Jd >> >> >> On Wed, Aug 6, 2014 at 4:49 PM, David Week (Assai) <dew(a)assai.com.au> >> wrote: >> >>> Hi Michel >>> >>> I’ve no experience in grant-winning, but in general I know that funders >>> have a bias towards large grants and projects to small ones, since every >>> grant carries with it a similar overhead cost to the agency, but larger >>> grants are more likely to have an impact than smaller ones. >>> >>> D >>> >>> >>> On 6 Aug 2014, at 4:59 pm, Michel Bauwens <michel(a)p2pfoundation.net> >>> wrote: >>> >>> I was going to put eur25k in my request (and not more than 50k) >>> >>> this would go partly to the p2p-f and stacco as initiators and >>> conceptual text developers, partly to lionel and primavera as legal experts >>> (haven't asked them yet), and partly to gt and the swarm then, as >>> 'implementors >>> >>> >>> On Wed, Aug 6, 2014 at 1:57 PM, Joel Dietz <jdietz(a)gmail.com> wrote: >>> >>>> How much funding do you think this needs? >>>> >>>> >>>> On Tue, Aug 5, 2014 at 11:55 PM, Michel Bauwens < >>>> michel(a)p2pfoundation.net> wrote: >>>> >>>>> hi Joel, >>>>> >>>>> GT , stacco in cc, was the first to use this PPL license, and >>>>> primavera has written a first article on it, but we are seeking funding to >>>>> develop it on a stable legal basis, >>>>> >>>>> but I believe the fact that breaches need to be interpreted is exactly >>>>> what you want to achieve, i.e. a discursive ethical community that needs to >>>>> decide on its ethics >>>>> >>>>> so you would have to establish a social charter, and some 'foundation' >>>>> (as is customary in open source) with a 'ethical counci' that interprets >>>>> the charter in case of conflict, >>>>> >>>>> http://p2pfoundation.net/Commons-Based_Reciprocity_Licenses >>>>> >>>>> >>>>> http://p2pfoundation.net/Commons-Based_Reciprocity_Licenses_To_Advance_Reci… >>>>> >>>>> >>>>> On Wed, Aug 6, 2014 at 1:45 PM, Joel Dietz <jdietz(a)gmail.com> wrote: >>>>> >>>>>> >>>>>> I am extremely sympathetic to this idea. Fwd: A Last Word for 2014
by Michel Bauwens 25 Dec '14

25 Dec '14

---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Cat Zavis <cat(a)spiritualprogressives.org> Date: Wed, Dec 24, 2014 at 7:28 AM Subject: A Last Word for 2014 To: Michelsub2004(a)gmail.com <http://org.salsalabs.com/dia/track.jsp?v=2&c=mivM5C6neyDqaYrkygSjN5w%2BS42E…> Dear Fellow Spiritual Progressive Michel, As you know, Sunday, December 14th, the Network of Spiritual Progressives hosted a meeting to re-imagine our political future. Three hundred and fifty people attended, and heard from Rabbi Lerner and distinguished guests including Marianne Williamson, George Lakoff, Reginald Lyles, and Matthew Fox, inspiring a practical vision for change. The success of the conference was followed by some more amazing news: Dr. Vandana Shiva, the famed environmentalist from India working for seed integrity against international corporations that are seeking control over every inch of the agricultural process, is enthusiastic about our ESRA (the Environmental and Social Responsibility Amendment to the U.S. Constitution) and has just become the international chair of the Network of Spiritual Progressives, co-chairing with national chair Rabbi Michael Lerner. 2015 has the potential to be our best year yet, as we build a renewed movement at the intersection of spirituality, social justice, and the common good. We're revitalizing our communication - look for our newsletter and a new website soon, breathing new life into the national network of NSP and local chapters. To help us get there, we need *you*. Here’s one last chance in 2014 to support social transformation! With your help, we’d be a long way toward being able to enter the New Year with some funds we need to keep going and expand our efforts, as well as make serious headway toward renewing this beautiful vision of translating spiritually progressive thought and action into meaningful change. To donate, click here <http://org.salsalabs.com/dia/track.jsp?v=2&c=4yQcyVOX6rweVPtPuKKrt5w%2BS42E…> . In the coming year, to enhance our effectiveness, we plan to conduct more transformative activist trainings to help activists and others integrate spiritually progressive practices and thought into action, reignite local chapters who will work to gain endorsements and support for the ESRA <http://org.salsalabs.com/dia/track.jsp?v=2&c=Tuop7ouDQMTi1OWSVSArp5w%2BS42E…> and Global Marshall Plan <http://org.salsalabs.com/dia/track.jsp?v=2&c=2cFGQ6COSsf8rVuGs6hWcJw%2BS42E…>, foster stronger partnerships with other social change organizations in the hopes that doing so will help them reframe their message from one focusing on what they are against to instead promoting a positive vision of the society they want, and create professional and workplace taskforces that can begin to explore how to implement the New Bottom Line <http://org.salsalabs.com/dia/track.jsp?v=2&c=aT6AQXTKjZmM1p5lKHXFO5w%2BS42E…> into their workplaces and professions. We can't do it without you and we look forward to an amazing year in 2015. *Please give $5.00 or more if you can *– your donation will go a long way *. * We wish you a rich, happy, authentic and loving holiday season, whatever your tradition. ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Ignasi Capdevila <ignasi.capdevila(a)gmail.com> Date: Tue, Dec 23, 2014 at 12:13 AM Subject: [members] 7th International Conference on Communities and Technologies (C&T 2015) To: P2PValue Project Members List <members(a)lists.p2pvalue.eu> Call for Papers 7th International Conference on Communities and Technologies (C&T 2015) 27-30 June 2015, Limerick, Ireland Important Dates • 1 Feb 2015 Papers, Workshop and Tutorials Proposals due • 1 Mar 2015 Notification of acceptance (for Workshop &Tutorial Proposals) • 1 Apr 2015 Notification of acceptance (for Full Papers) • 1 May 2015 Camera Ready Papers • 1 May 2015 Workshop Papers, Work-in-Progress Papers, Doctoral Consortium Submissions and Student Volunteers Applications due • 1 June 2015 – Early bird registration ends • 27-28 Jun 2015 Workshops, Tutorials and Doctoral Consortium • 29-30 Jun 2015 C&T Conference In September 2003, the biannual conference series ‘Communities and Technologies (C&T)’ started with a meeting in Amsterdam attracting some 350 participants. Almost at the same time, the more policy, advocacy and practice-oriented Community Informatics (CI) series of conferences began in Prato, Italy in 2002, along with an online email network and the Journal of Community Informatics. It is time to cross fertilize these discussions and to identify convergences, overlaps, divergences and common paths, as well as challenges for future research, advocacy, policy and practice. We cordially invite submissions to the Seventh International Conference on Communities and Technologies (C&T 2015), hosted from 27 to 30 June by the University of Limerick, Ireland. This biennial meeting serves as a forum for stimulating and disseminating research on the complex connections between communities - both physical and virtual - and information and communication technologies. This seventh edition of the conference will mark a stronger opening toward Community Informatics work. The conference will be co-sponsored by the Journal of Community Informatics (http://ci-journal.net/index.php/ciej) The goal is to revitalize the academic discussion with a new format in order to make the academic discourse more relevant for practice. The organisers hope to widen the base of relevant case studies, and at the same time, strengthen the reflection regarding these practice-based cases. C&T 2015 welcomes participation from researchers, designers, educators, industry, and students from the many disciplines and perspectives bearing on the interaction between community and technology, including architecture, arts, business, design, economics, education, engineering, ergonomics, information technology, geography, health, humanities, law, media and communication studies, and social sciences. The conference program will include competitively selected, peer-reviewed papers, as well as pre-conference workshops and tutorials, a doctoral consortium, and invited keynote speakers. We look forward to welcoming you to an exciting conference in Limerick, a vibrant university city on the west coast of Ireland! Gabriela Avram Conference Chair Organising Committee Programme Chairs: Fiorella de Cindio and Volkmar Pipek Workshop Chairs: Anne Light and Nemanja Memarovic Tutorial Chairs: Doug Schuler and Sabine Moebs Doctoral Consortium Chairs: Susanne Boedker and Volker Wulf Local Organisation Chair: Norah Power Student Volunteers Chair: Laura Maye Conference Themes C&T focuses on the notion of communities as social entities comprised of people who share something in common; this common element may be geography, needs, interests, practices, organizations, or other bases for social connection. Communities are considered to be a basic unit of social experience. Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) can support community formation and development by facilitating communication and coordination among members, as well as enable and empower communities to deal with challenges and threats. Topics appropriate for submission to this conference are manifold. Examples of some of the vibrant areas of communities and technology research include, but are not limited to: • Communities, technologies and government (learning/education, health, cultural heritage, crises and natural disasters) • Civic Activism, Community Engagement, Participatory Publics • Communities and innovation • Crowdsourcing, crowdfunding, collective intelligence • Maker communities (makerspaces, Fablabs, crafters) and DIY • Online and offline communities • Urban and rural communities; urban technologies; urban informatics; urban interaction design • Smart communities in the context of smart cities • Sustainable communities • Communities, social media and social capital • Community-centred Design, Infrastructuring and Evaluation Methodologies • Ethnographic and case studies of communities • Communities, ICTs and Economic and Social Development. Submission categories, Formats We are calling for submission of full (research) papers, work-in-progress papers, tutorial and workshop proposals and applications to the doctoral consortium. Please submit all papers and abstracts in ACM SIGCHI two column layout (see http://www.sigchi.org/publications/chipubform) Papers In order to allow for a diversity of contributions, the conference will accept full papers and work-in-progress papers. Full papers must be no longer than ten pages, including all additional material such as references, appendices, and figures. Work-in-progress papers must be no longer than four pages. The papers must include a title, sufficient space for the author name(s) to appear on the paper, abstract, keywords, body, and references. Papers submitted by the due date will undergo a double blind peer review process by an international panel and will be evaluated on the basis of their significance, innovation, academic rigour, and clarity of writing. Accepted full papers will be included in the published conference proceedings if at least one author of any accepted submission has registered and attends the conference. Accepted work-in-progress papers will be published in the adjunct proceedings, and the same rule applies: at least one of the authors will have to register and attend the conference. Papers will be submitted via EasyChair: https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=ct2015 Please send any questions to the Programme Chairs: PC_chairs(a)comtech.community . Workshops Workshops provide an opportunity to discuss and explore emerging areas of Communities & Technologies research with a group of like-minded researchers and practitioners. They run for a half or one full day and will take place on June 27th or June 28th. Workshops offer the opportunity to advance specific research areas. C&T workshops might address methodologies, emerging application areas, design innovations, organisational issues or education. Each workshop should generate ideas that give the C&T community a new, organised way of thinking about the topic, or ideas that suggest promising directions for future research. Some workshops result in edited books or special issues of journals; you may consider including this goal in your workshop proposal. Please send proposals to the Workshop Chairs: workshops(a)comtech.community Tutorials The purpose of the tutorials is to give the attendees the opportunity to acquire knowledge in new areas and add to their professional development. Topics can range from physical computing (Arduino, Raspberry Pi) to visualization, mapping applications, setting up a disaster coordination centre, and so on. We invite individuals or teams interested in presenting a tutorial to submit proposals. Tutorials will run for a half or one full day on June 27th. Please send proposals to the Tutorials Chairs: tutorials(a)comtech.community Workshop and tutorial proposals should be no longer than 4 pages and should include: the title of the workshop, the list of organizers and their backgrounds, and an abstract of no more than 150 words, as well as the workshop's theme, goals and activities, maximum number of participants, means of soliciting participation, and means of selecting participants. Doctoral Consortium The Doctoral Consortium is scheduled prior to the main conference programme, on Sunday 28 June 2015. The Doctoral Consortium (DC) offers research students a special forum where they can present, discuss and progress their research plans with peers and established senior researchers. Research students wishing to attend the doctoral consortium should submit up to 4 pages, using the ACM SIGCHI two column layout available at http://www.sigchi.org/publications/chipubform, addressing the following: Introduction setting up your research area and specific research question(s)/goals(s) (including key related work); Overall research approach, methodology, and expected contributions; Work in progress (including findings to date and next steps); Questions and issues for discussion, and what you hope to gain from attending the DC; short bio. Please send proposals to the Doctoral Consortium Chairs: dc(a)comtech.community Student Volunteers C&T actively encourages students to volunteer at the conference. Being a student volunteer is a great way to support the research community, meet other students in the field, and attend an international ACM conference. You will help the conference organisers with the running of the conference and support the setting-up of presentations and workshops. You will see the latest in C&T research and development, and have fun while learning about running the conference. In return, you will get free registration. To apply, email us your contact details (email, phone, university), an abstract of your research project, a CV, and the reasons why you would like to be a student volunteer. Please send applications to the Student Volunteers Chair: volunteers(a)comtech.community More Information For updates, please check the conference website: http://comtech.community Dr.Gabriela Avram Lecturer Interaction Design Centre, CS2031 University of Limerick Ireland C&T 2015 General Chair http://comtech.community _______________________________________________ Comtech mailing list Comtech(a)fit.fraunhofer.de https://lists.fit.fraunhofer.de/mailman/listinfo/comtech -- Check out the Commons Transition Plan here at: http://en.wiki.floksociety.org/w/Research_Plan P2P Foundation: http://p2pfoundation.net - http://blog.p2pfoundation.net <http://lists.ourproject.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/p2p-foundation>Updates: http://twitter.com/mbauwens; http://www.facebook.com/mbauwens #82 on the (En)Rich list: http://enrichlist.org/the-complete-list/
