---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Paolo Cirio <info(a)paolocirio.net> Date: Sat, Mar 26, 2011 at 9:38 PM Subject: Action in London, Revolutionary Credit Cards against shrinking UK economy To: press(a)paolocirio.net Dear Londoners, On the 25th of March 2011 hundreds of the revolutionary credit cards were distributed at strategics places around London. Today, the action will join the protests in the city against the public sector cuts caused by the so called economic recession. Some pictures of the action and the P2P Gift Credit Cards: http://www.paolocirio.net/work/gift-finance/p2p_gift_credit_card.php The Gift Finance is a real alternative, a new model that allows anyone to create money, giving back monetary power to the people. The same people who are victims of the incompetent banking sector. Financial institutions are legally allowed to create money out of nothing, we want to have the same right! Start today with a new P2P Gift Credit Cards: http://www.p2pgiftcredit.com Take an insight about critical finance: http://www.p2pgiftcredit.com/infoshop.php In the next few days I will send out a more detailed press release about the action, interviews about the cards will be published in Digicult Magazine, April issue. See an exhibition of P2P Gift Credit Cards at my upcoming solo show REALITYFLOWHACKED in Ljubljana in mid april and Utopian Currencies in Paris in mid june. political control via enclosure : "food"
by Dante-Gabryell Monson 26 Mar '11

26 Mar '11

I would be interested in reading some article comparing food related "land enclosure" vs "gene enclosure" ( + "monetised market" enclosure on food ? ) who in my current view , in addition to the direct monetary gains made by capitalists, both have deep potential economic and political impact in favor of the capitalist mode of "control" on populations, by taking control on food production; Directly and indirectly : http://www.sourcewatch.org/index.php?title=Goliath_and_David:_Monsanto's_Legal_Battles_against_Farmers http://www.truth-out.org/farmers-sue-usda-over-monsanto-alfalfa-again68656 As far as I remember reading, capitalist "land enclosure" has had dramatic impact on various societies. such as http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Highland_Clearances Sometimes ( usually ? ) forced movement of people into cities, where capitalists needed populations to work in industries, industries on which such labor became dependent for survival - as it lost the potential to grow its food on its own land. How is the ownership of current arable land distributed ? In the United States ? In Europe ? On other continents ? And of the arable land that is owned by small producers, how much do they produce and of what : - what part of it is organic food ? - is it more expensive , and if so, how much more ? - bought by whom ? What is the current "measurable" risk of monopoly on food production ? And of this measurable monopoly risk on food access safety, what are the risks inherent to : - ( dependency on ) *finance * ( as seen when sudden increase of price of crops due to financial speculation - link - <goog_1229533413>Goldman Sachs makes $1 billion profit on food price speculation<http://www.theecologist.org/News/news_round_up/542538/goldman_sachs_makes_1…>) - gene ownership - land ownership // What legal propositions could be made to support and empower further "food safety" ? // What tools could be used to visualize ( economic, political, ecological, social , ... ) impact of consumer choices on food related ecosystems ? What happens in the case monopolists decide to "create" a - food - crisis, to gain political control ? How many people, in the current, and potential near future, could die of malnutrition due to dependency on monopolist food producing systems ? How many people are dying in this present moment, due to artificially created famine ? ...due to monetisation / monetised market monopoly on access to food - or potential food production ? http://www.wfp.org/hunger/stats Past example in an area with ample food production : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holodomor * * *was a man-made famine in the Ukrainian SSR<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ukrainian_Soviet_Socialist_Republic>, part of the Soviet famine of 1932–1933<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soviet_famine_of_1932%E2%80%931933>. During the famine, which is also known as the "terror-famine in Ukraine" and "famine-genocide in Ukraine",[1]<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holodomor#cite_note-0> [2] <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holodomor#cite_note-1>[3]<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holodomor#cite_note-2> millions of Ukrainians died of starvation in a peacetime catastrophe unprecedented in the history of Ukraine <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_Ukraine>.*

Fwd: [opennetcoalition] Citizens, NGOs: Oppose EU Commission's Plans Against our Freedoms Online!
by Michel Bauwens 25 Mar '11

25 Mar '11

---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: La Quadrature du Net <jz(a)laquadrature.net> Date: Fri, Mar 25, 2011 at 12:50 AM Subject: [opennetcoalition] Citizens, NGOs: Oppose EU Commission's Plans Against our Freedoms Online! To: opennetcoalition(a)laquadrature.net La Quadrature du Net - For immediate release Permanent link: http://www.laquadrature.net/en/citizens-ngos-oppose-eu-commissions-plans-ag… Citizens, NGOs: Oppose EU Commission's Plans Against our Freedoms Online! *** The European Commission has begun a process to modify its copyright, patent and trademark enforcement, with the revision of the IPRED "anti-sharing" directive. By stepping up enforcement in the spirit of the ACTA agreement, the Commission wants to turn Internet companies into a copyright police. This would have disastrous consequences on online free speech, the right to privacy and the right to a fair trial. Every EU citizen and NGO is invited to participate to the consultation process to defend fundamental rights and express their views on alternatives to blind and dangerous enforcement. La Quadrature has published its draft [1] answer and a wiki guide [2] to help everyone participate. *** The IPRED revision process was biased from the start, relying on false figures and ideological stands propagated by the entertainment industries. In the preliminary documents, the Commission - without any detailed impact assessment of existing law - paves the way for waging a full-on war on sharing and against the Internet. After years of trying to sue and criminalize users, the EU Commission now plans to step up enforcement that circumvents the judiciary, in line with the ACTA international agreement. The objective is to turn Web service providers (search engines, content hosting services, etc.) as well as Internet access providers into a private copyright police. Putting legal pressure on these companies would inevitably lead them to automatically filter and remove online content, even though sharing has a neutral or positive effects on the creative sector, according to a number of independent studies [3]. The Commisison's plan is a coarse attempt at legitimizing censorship measures that may serve the narrow interest of obsolete industries, but which will inevitably undermine European citizens' fundamental rights as well as the very architecture of the Internet. It is essential that a high number of citizens and NGOs take the opportunity to answer the consultation by sending submissions to the Commission before March 31st. A guide is available to help them in that purpose. La Quadrature releases its own draft answer, open for comments, in order to help everyone participate in this decisive consultation. ** References ** 1. https://lqdn.co-ment.com/text/uK6D3cM9UhD/view/ 2. http://www.laquadrature.net/wiki/IPRED_Consultation_Campaign 3. http://www.laquadrature.net/wiki/Studies_on_file_sharing_eng ** About la Quadrature du Net ** La Quadrature du Net is an advocacy group that promotes the rights and freedoms of citizens on the Internet. Fwd: CC Mag: Wir article needed.

---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Thomas Greco <thg(a)mindspring.com> Date: Fri, Mar 25, 2011 at 6:49 AM Subject: Re: CC Mag: Wir article needed. To: Matthew Slater <matslats(a)gmail.com> Matt, I've already written quite a bit about WIR which is available on my website and blog. Have you been to http://reinventingmoney.com/documents/wir.html? You should read my *An Annotated Précis, Review, and Critique of Prof. Tobias Studer's WIR and the Swiss National Economy by Thomas H. Greco, Jr. and Theo Megalli,<http://reinventingmoney.com/documents/StuderbookCritique.pdf> *as well as the other documents there. Also, see Susan Witt's reports and other related items on my blog at http://beyondmoney.net/?s=WIR*. *Your questions*: * - What is the currency model. Is it still mutual credit? - What forces made them change? - What kind of situations would the Wir model be suitable for? - Would it work outside of Switzerland? - What is the smallest scale it would work on? - Has it ever been replicated? - Are Wir open to supporting new initiatives? - What are the limits to Wir's success in Switzerland? Why isn't it much bigger? The mutual credit clearing is still part of the service provided by WIR Bank, but it is a shrinking proportion of their overall operations. WIR is now a conventional bank taking deposits and making loans in Swiss francs. I suspect that the management has been taken over by people serving the banking cartel and that is why there has been no attempt to grow the direct credit clearing operation or to replicate it outside of Switzerland. This is conjecture, but it is supported by the fact that Sergio and I were unable to arrange a meeting with any of the management people during our 2005 visit to Basel. Susan Witt had a similar experience during her visit in 2008. There are other facts that also point to that conclusion as you will see when you read the documents I mentioned. Sergio and I were able to meet in 2005 with Prof.Tobias Studer, a former member of the WIR advisory board who had written a booklet describing the history and operations of WIR up to that point. He gave permission for our colleague Prof. Phil Beard, to translate it into English. * *I think by the time you digest those materials you'll be able to write the article yourself. I'd be willing to look at it prior to publication. There is still a need for an update on the situation within WIR. Perhaps we can find a Swiss contact who would be willing to do some research and investigative reporting.* *In any case, WIR, as it was operated up until the late 1990s, is I think, an excellent model. It could and should be replicated (with some modifications). I heard a couple years ago that Bernard Lietaer was planning to start a WIR-type exchange in Belgium, but don't know if it ever got off the ground. * *I hope you will do some digging to get additional answers.* *Regards, Tom* <http://reinventingmoney.com/documents/StuderbookCritique.pdf>* Thomas H. Most of the discussion implies to me at least that it is simply a Swiss style B2B Barter network. But I understand that while this used to be the case, Wir is nothing like that any more. So I would like to commission an original article along the lines of *Wir: Just another B2B Barter network?* Addressing such questions as: - What is the currency model. Would you be interested to ruminate on these questions at an intermediate level for Community Currency advocates who think the Wir is a model worth replicating? Or do you know who else might be able to write something good? 300 - 600 words would be ideal Best Regards, Matthew On 22 March 2011 22:14, Marc Armstrong <marctarmstrong(a)gmail.com> wrote: > > > Hello Marc, > A lot of people seem to be under the impression that Wir is a mutual credit > system, like a B2B barter network, but I understand that it hasn't been > like > that at all for many years.
