Petar Jandric has done an in-depth conversation with me about the current work at the P2P Foundation, which is focused mostly on the me of: how can we produce for human need within planetary boundaries, in the context of the rapid construction of post-westphalian cyber-physical infrastructure and autonomous trans-local ecosystems. https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s42438-021-00218-8 Excerpt: Commoning for Planetary Survival and Regeneration PJ: You recently published a report ‘P2P Accounting for Planetary Survival: Towards a P2P Infrastructure for a Socially-Just Circular Society’ (Bauwens and Pazaitis 2020). What is P2P accounting and how does it differ from traditional accounting? MB: In the 1930s, there was this big debate between socialists and liberals called the ‘Socialist Calculation Debate’. On the one side, were Friedrich Hayek, Joseph Schumpeter, Ludwig von Mises, and others, who argued that centralised planning could not work. On the opposite side, were Karl Polanyi, and others, who claimed that socialist planning could work (and in ways superior to capitalism). For almost one century it seemed that the leftists had lost the socialist calculation debate. These days, however, things are changing. There are three main levels of resource allocation. (1) We have the state, which represents planning – either full planning as in Soviet times, or regulatory planning, as in the capitalist system. (2) We have market pricing, which regulates the allocation of capital. (3) Finally, we have the emergence of mutual coordination or ‘stigmergy’, which brings open source commoning into the picture. Our proposal, ‘P2P Accounting for Planetary Survival: Towards a P2P Infrastructure for a Socially-Just Circular Society’ (Bauwens and Pazaitis 2020), consists of an integrated vision that combines the three forms, with mutual coordination at the first level. We now have distributed ledgersFootnote10 so that we can move from sharing code and knowledge to sharing transaction data, shared accounting, shared logistics, and so on. We are moving from the Internet of Communications to the Internet of Transactions which enables the development of collaborative open ecosystems consisting of networks of producers. I think this is a very important shift. PJ: And what about thermodynamic accounting? MB: Thermodynamic accounting is the ability to see flows of matter and energy and have them integrated into your accounting system. This implies that we can create our own data commons, data trusts, data co-ops, and so on. -- P2P Foundation: http://wiki.p2pfoundation.net <http://p2pfoundation.net> - http://blog.p2pfoundation.net Discuss: http://lists.ourproject.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/p2p-foundation Updates: ; http://twitter.com/mbauwens; http://www.facebook.com/mbauwens Curation of news on p2p/commons developments: https://www.facebook.com/groups/p2p.open/

Fwd: The Future we imagine is the Cause of the Present

What do we see happening outside? Our voracious civilisation is crashing down. So are the “old narratives”, worldviews and myths which sustain it. This is the collapse of *MAD Land (leading to Massive Assured Destruction). An EGO centric world of materialism, *focused on Efficiency, driven by *value capture, competition, growth, profit, productivity, power over, exclusion. *A world maintained by a series of “worldviews” such as the *myth of progress, making a career, *the* story of scarcity, the illusion of control and predictability.* At the same time, we can see the seeds and traces of an emerging *radically different Future: an **ECO**centric world, *focused on resiliency, driven by systemic and regenerative value creation, organic collaboration, Power with, Inclusion. This is *NO MAD land (leading to Mutually Assured Development), *sustained by radically different values and worldviews about Growth, Business, what it means to be Human and to live a meaningful Life. There is an interesting metaphor that might help us “decode” the situation. What is happening in the world today is similar to the metamorphosis of a caterpillar into a Butterfly: a voracious destructive civilization breaking down and the potential birth of a new viable civilization for the Future. *Confronted with all that, you can look at the situation in two very different ways which completely change your emotions:* - Either you consider this “falling apart” as "*Apocalypse now*" - the end of the world and this might lead to Fear, Despair, Cynicism, even to Violence. Some live *"Nostalgia" *of the Future, a poetic awareness of a Future forever gone - *Or no apocalypse, not now*: rather than focusing on a dying world, you adopt the attitude of the imaginal cells, which are inside the body of the caterpilar: they don’t panic at all because they *SEE a more beautiful world is possible and are too busy building the FUTURE THEY HAVE IN MIND.* *The key rests in the way you look at the world :**The Future you imagine is the cause of the Present.* We all live with an imaginary Future in mind. The Future is a story we tell ourselves, even implicitly. It is a representation of what “could happen”, within the limits of our perceptions and *Imagination*. But it impacts all aspects of our lives, especially the way we set our priorities and make decisions *HERE and NOW.* *The Future is now ! *It is an emotional experience in the Present. This is crucial! Because ultimately our emotions guide our decisions. And every day, we all make decisions based on our Vision of the world “as it is” and on our capacity to imagine alternative possibilities. We need a Future we can Believe in. A meaning making Story that resonates with our deepest Aspirations and generates hope that a viable human Future is possible together, in a NO MAD LAND (based on Mutually Assisted Development). A Narrative able to generate what we call the *Next appeal: the “Erotica of the Future, a desire for the Future we want to create. So the Future we imagine can become the cause of our Present.* Now is the time to dare to imagine it. To make alternative narrative of the Future visible, desirable and actionable. "Be careful about the Present you create because it must look like the Future you dream of." Rather than building the Future on Fear, Despair or Violence, Shapership stands for building it on Hope, Imagination and Radical Wisdom. It focuses on the need to boost Creative Thinking, Imagination and to create the Next Appeal: the Erotica of the Future, an irresistible impulse towards the Future we desire. Words and image by Sailor's Grave Brewing *Sailor's Grave Brewing's*, Dark Emu - Dark Lager, available in Prom Coast Food Collective <https://openfoodnetwork.us13.list-manage.com/track/click?u=6752bbf142dc0ebe…>'s online shop, is one of their favourite collaborations. "This collaboration runs deep, the native grains are harvested by Yuin people on the banks of the Wallagaraugh River. The beautiful art on the can depicts the giant creator emu, baiame, after it left earth and rose into the sky, becoming the huge dark space in the Milky Way. The art was created by Yuin man Terry Hayes who also harvested the grain used in Dark Emu. First Nations people have been making fermented beverages both here in Australia and across the world for thousands and thousands of years, we are just the conduit for this particular story in what is just a blip in time. We’re particularly proud that a percentage of the proceeds from the sales of Dark Emu will go to support the studies of local Aboriginal students at Orbost, Mallacoota and Eden. More than just beer 🍻" In case you are curious, the native grains are roasted mamadyang ngalluk and burru ngalluk grass seed. You can find producers like Sailor's Grave Brewing that offer pick-up and delivery of fresh local produce in your area on our Shop In VIC <https://openfoodnetwork.us13.list-manage.com/track/click?u=6752bbf142dc0ebe…> page. *Why we need food, tech and data sovereignty* Do you find yourself asking what does food, technology or data sovereignty mean? Sovereignty is not a term we use very often in our day-to-day conversations. But its existence enables us to participate, define and make decisions in shaping our local food systems as a local community. Its absence consolidates power in the hands of a few who get to determine what our foodways, livelihoods and identities look like, disempowering us individually and collectively. Founder and Managing Director of Open Food Network Canada, Theresa Schumilas, explains how digital platforms can contribute to the food sovereignty movement in this episode <https://openfoodnetwork.us13.list-manage.com/track/click?u=6752bbf142dc0ebe…> of the Handpicked podcast.. Read the full transcript <https://openfoodnetwork.us13.list-manage.com/track/click?u=6752bbf142dc0ebe…> *Software release of the month* *Improving the customer ordering experience* It is now possible to add bulk quantities of a variant in the number field between the increase and decrease buttons. For example, a shopper can now add 100 items of one variant with just a few clicks. And thanks to a recent fix it is not possible to add more items than those in stock so if a higher number is entered into the number field, it will default to the amount available in stock. Read release notes <https://openfoodnetwork.us13.list-manage.com/track/click?u=6752bbf142dc0ebe…> *Software support over the Easter holidays* We understand that our customers are often juggling work on their Open Food Network profile in the limited time they have available between the farm/business, family and life. We’re trying to balance work with our families, farms and life too! So *from Friday, 2 April to Monday, 5 April* the Open Food Network team will be taking a break. During this time we will only be responding to urgent enquiries that come through the inbox and we will do our absolute best to make sure someone gets to it sooner than the next business day. Any non-urgent queries will be held until the full team is back in the office on Tuesday 6 April. *In other news* *Victorian Farmers' Markets Association* are hiring for the permanent position of *Field Officer <https://openfoodnetwork.us13.list-manage.com/track/click?u=6752bbf142dc0ebe…> *to uncover and share the stories of our diverse local food sector to increase its resilience, visibility and support across Victoria. *PrimeSafe,* the Statutory Authority responsible for regulating the safety of red meat, poultry and seafood in Victoria is looking for *Non-Executive Directors* <https://openfoodnetwork.us13.list-manage.com/track/click?u=6752bbf142dc0ebe…> with a background in Accounting (CPA accredited) and Finance, Public Health, Retail, Meat, Livestock production, meat processing and small goods. Fwd: Natural Origin or Lab Escape? The Emergence of SARS-CoV-2 (3 Online Lectures)
by Michel Bauwens 03 Mar '21

03 Mar '21

---------- Forwarded message --------- From: Jonathan Latham <jrlatham(a)bioscienceresource.org> Date: Tue, Mar 2, 2021 at 2:53 AM Subject: Natural Origin or Lab Escape? The Emergence of SARS-CoV-2 (3 Online Lectures) To: BSR-PROJECT-ELIST1(a)gn.apc.org <BSR-PROJECT-ELIST1(a)gn.apc.org> Dear Friends and Colleagues Today (Mon, March 1st, 2021) we would like to share something new. It is a series of three talks titled, collectively: *Natural Origin or Lab Escape? The Emergence of SARS-CoV-2.* by Dr Jonathan Latham. The three talks were presented to the EAT online community <https://www.eatcommunity.com/> on Jan 8th, Jan 15th and Jan 22nd, 2021. Each is now published on the Youtube channel of Independent Science News <https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCtx1gXlAzs82pXI2CAphFfg>. The three talks describe aspects of our current thinking on the origin of the SARS-CoV-2 virus and the nature of the underlying political/economic forces attempting to influence public perception, especially of its origins. These talks are designed for people new to the virus origins debate but also are designed to important new information to satisfy those who are already very familiar with the arguments and the evidence. More details and links are below. Lecture 1 *Why Wuhan?* Could SARS-CoV-2 have come from a lab? As this first talk details, the evidence for a natural zoonotic origin was always weak. Interestingly, the case for a natural origin has become ever weaker as the pandemic has progressed. In stark contrast, the evidence base for a lab origin has grown steadily. At present, numerous lines of evidence, outlined in this first talk, point strongly to a lab escape. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UAIQ7hH5VKw&t=461s Lecture 2 *The Mojiang Miners Passage Theory* Dr Latham introduces the various lab origin theories for the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, the cause of the COVID19 pandemic. In order of appearance: 1) Sirotkin and Sirotkin, 2) Segreto and Deigin, and 3) the DRASTIC theory. Dr Latham then discusses the latest thinking on the Mojiang Miners Passage Theory. This theory originated from the observation that RaTG13 (the closest related viral sequence to SARS-CoV-2) was sampled in 2013 from a mine (the Mojiang mine) that had recently been the site of a disease outbreak. In that outbreak, six miners were hospitalized and three died; each had COVID-19-like symptoms. The ill miners were diagnosed at the time as likely suffering from an unknown coronavirus and it is known they had been shovelling bat guano. It is known that serum, and possibly other tissue samples, from four of the hospitalized miners were transported at the time to the Wuhan Institute of Virology (WIV) for testing. The Mojiang Miners Passage theory proposes that, by the time these patient samples arrived at the WIV, the original mine virus had evolved inside the miners to become a highly adapted human pathogen. According to the theory, it was this virus which subsequently escaped and caused the COVID19 pandemic. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=59cXOHj0On8&t=30s Lecture 3 *The Pandemic Virus Industrial Complex* The military has its academic industrial complex and so does virus medical research. The Pandemic Virus Industrial Complex (PVIC) is busy on many fronts, only one of which is trying to suppress discussion of the potential lab origins of the SARS-CoV-2 virus. In this video, Dr Jonathan Latham, PhD, shares insights into the functioning and organization of the various elements that constitute the PVIC. I am writing a book about genetics and genetic determinism. It is provisionally titled: *The Myth of The Master Molecule: DNA and the Social Order* The contention of the book is that the key organising principle of Western thought is the seemingly innocuous and seemingly simple idea that our personal qualities are biologically inherited. That is, our character derives from our ancestors rather than being an always-adapting product of our own experiences, decisions, and education. The book makes the case, first, that genetic determinism is a scientific fallacy. Organisms are self-organised systems and therefore are not genetically determined. Second, the explanation for the myth, which predates Mesopotamian cities of 6,000 years ago, is its utility. Genetic determinism rationalises political systems based on genetic privilege. The result of the emergence of genetic determinism was the dismantling of ancient cultures based on inclusiveness and egalitarianiism and their transformation into rigid structures of authoritarian domination based on separation and division: into families, classes, races, nations, sexes (i.e. patriarchy), and species. The final proposition of the book is that propagating the myth was the chief aim of Zoroastrianism and the subsequent Abrahamic religions. Since the 1850s, this role has been appropriated by science. By recognizing how the founding myth of Western civilization is being re-told in the language of science we can start to dismantle and replace it with a more humane and scientific understanding of the world. _______________________________________________ BSR-project-elist1 mailing list Info and options: https://mailman.gn.apc.org/mailman/listinfo/bsr-project-elist1 To unsubscribe, email bsr-project-elist1-unsubscribe(a)gn.apc.org -- P2P Foundation: http://wiki.p2pfoundation.net <http://p2pfoundation.net> - http://blog.p2pfoundation.net Discuss: http://lists.ourproject.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/p2p-foundation Updates: ; http://twitter.com/mbauwens; http://www.facebook.com/mbauwens Curation of news on p2p/commons developments: https://www.facebook.com/groups/p2p.open/

This on and offline installation is now an international sensation that explores what happens when networked surveillance tools and AI capabilities get sick in the head. Between and even during lockdowns, Furtherfield Gallery <https://furtherfield.us4.list-manage.com/track/click?u=9d227b6380a87c752902…> - which features scannable hoarding that reveals what is happening inside - has been visited (and revisited!) by masses of people. Some major fans of the work have come multiple times, venturing deep into Finsbury Park, to sit outside the gallery and watch what is going on inside! Image courtesy of Studio Hyte Returning UNINVITED viewers *UNINVITED is composed of:* The installations of UNINVITED feature self-evolving networked monsters inside a mechatronic shell that generate and watch a ‘horror movie’ from surveillance footage they have collected. Each monster moves across the empty art gallery on rails, projecting the horror movie onto the wall as it tries to examine and make sense of it. If fear comes from the unknown - or the quest for security in an absence of reliable data - then this is pure fear! - UNINVITED (2020) by Nye Thompson & UBERMORGEN installation image courtesy of the artists <https://furtherfield.us4.list-manage.com/track/click?u=9d227b6380a87c752902…> - UNINVITED (2020) by Nye Thompson & UBERMORGEN external gallery image (back) courtesy of Studio Hyte <https://furtherfield.us4.list-manage.com/track/click?u=9d227b6380a87c752902…> - UNINVITED (2020) by Nye Thompson & UBERMORGEN installation image (Galeria ElectroPutere) courtesy of Galeria ElectroPutere <https://furtherfield.us4.list-manage.com/track/click?u=9d227b6380a87c752902…> The horror movie these monsters project and pore over is pulled from streams of closed-circuit TV feeds from all over the planet - taken without reason or permission by malicious botnets. Together in their networked mind, they do all they can to understand what they see - analysing harder, zooming deeper - to no avail. As the monsters try to categorise these images, the gaps in how it makes sense of data expose how little it understands of the world around it. - Movie trailer for UNINVITED (2020) by Nye Thompson & UBERMORGEN <https://furtherfield.us4.list-manage.com/track/click?u=9d227b6380a87c752902…> - UNINVITED film still: Exploration > Tarmac’ (2020) by Nye Thompson & UBERMORGEN image courtesy of the artists <https://furtherfield.us4.list-manage.com/track/click?u=9d227b6380a87c752902…> The viewing room allows anyone anywhere to try to watch with their own machine (a computer, tablet, phone, etc). What we see as the real, physical world is nothing compared to the world our own watching machines construct using millions of points of our digital data.
