Fwd: [Newsletter] urgent: A call for intergalactic solidarity actions everywhere to end the destruction of the ZAD

---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Oliver Ressler <oliver(a)ressler.at> Date: Wed, Apr 11, 2018 at 1:08 PM Subject: [Newsletter] urgent: A call for intergalactic solidarity actions everywhere to end the destruction of the ZAD To: "newsletter(a)ressler.at" <newsletter(a)ressler.at> Dear friends and colleagues, I would like to inform you that the ZAD – Europe’s largest autonomous territory that emerged from the struggle against a new airport for Nantes in France – is in danger of being evicted by 2500 riot police that invaded the territory on Monday this week in an attempt to destroy this significant social, agricultural and economic experiment. Please read and share their call for solidarity actions copied below. To find out more about the ZAD feel free to watch the film I did about it. “Everything's coming together while everything's falling apart: The ZAD <http://www.ressler.at/everythings_coming_together/>“, 36 min., 2017 https://vimeo.com/236277743 ZAD will survive! Oliver https://zad.nadir.org/spip.php?article5416 A call for intergalactic solidarity actions everywhere to end the destruction of the ZAD Wednesday 11 April 2018 We are writing with the smell of tear gas rising from our fingers. The springtime symphony of birdsong is punctuated by the explosive echo of concussion grenades. Our eyes are watering, less from the gas than the sadness; because our friends’ homes, barns and organic farms are being destroyed. Bulldozers, supported by 2500 riot police, armored vehicles, helicopters and drones, are rampaging through these forests, pastures and wetlands to crush the future we are building here on the to the zad (The zone à defendre). We are calling on you to take solidarity actions everywhere, it could be holding demos at your local french embassy or consulate, or taking actions against any suitable symbol (corporate or otherwise) of France ! And if you are not too far away, bring your disobedient bodies to join us on the zone. If the French government evicts the zad, it will be like evicting hope. For fifty years, this unique chequerboard landscape was the site of a relentless struggle against yet another climate wrecking infrastructure, a new airport for the nearby city of Nantes. Farmers and villagers, activists and naturalists, squatters and trade unionists wove an unbreakable ecology of struggle together and three months ago on the 17th of January, the French government announced that the airport project would be abandoned. But this incredible victory, won through a diversity of creative tactics from petitions to direct action, legal challenges to sabotage, had a dark shadow. In the same breath that declared the abandonment, came the announcement that the people occupying these 4000 acres of liberated territory, the 300 of us living and farming in 80 different collectives, would be evicted because we dared not just to be against the airport, but its WORLD as well. Since that victorious day, the battle has transformed itself and is now no longer about a destructive infrastructure project, but about sharing the territory we inhabit. We stoped this place from being covered in concrete and so it is up to us to take care of its future. The movement therefore maintains that we should have the right to manage the land as a commons (see its declaration The Six Points for the Zad because there will never be an Airport). Today this is the struggle of the zad (zone to defend) of Notre Dame Des Landes. The zad was launched in 2009 after a letter (distributed during the first french climate camp here) written by locals inviting people to occupy the zone and squat the abandoned farmhouses. Now the zone has become one of Europe’s largest laboratory of commoning. With its bakeries, pirate radio station, tractor repair workshop, brewery, anarchitectural cabins, banqueting hall, medicinal herb gardens, a rap studio, dairy, vegetable plots, weekly newspaper, flour mill, library and even a surrealist lighthouse. It has become a concrete experiment in taking back control of everyday life. In 2012 the French state’s attempt to evict the zone to build the airport was fiercely resisted, despite numerous demolitions 40,000 people turned up to rebuild and the government withdrew. The police have not set foot on the zad since, that is, until Monday morning, when at 3am the gendarmes pierced into the zone. On day one they destroyed some of the most beautiful cabins and barns, but yesterday we stopped the cops from getting to the Vraies Rouge, which happens to be where one of our negotiators with the government lives. Destroying the house of those that agreed to sit at the table with you was a strategic mistake. The fabulous zad press team used this as the media hook and today we are winning the battle of the story. If enough people get to the zone over the next days we could win the battle on the territory as well. We need rebel everything, from cooks to medics, fighters to witnesses. We doubt this rural revolt will be finished before the weekend, when we are also calling people to come and rebuild en mass. Already solidarity demonstrations have taken place in over 100 cities across France, whilst the town halls of several towns were occupied. Zapatistas demonstrated in Chiapas Mexico, there were actions in Brussels, Spain, Lebanon, London, Poland, Palestine and New York and the underground carpark of the french embassy in Munich was sabotaged. They will never be able to evict our solidarity. Important alert: free software freedom is under threat
by Michel Bauwens 09 Apr '18

09 Apr '18

dear all, this is NOT getting the attention it deserves, I'm hoping the p2p foundation blog can start diffusing important news on this vital topic, this should be a central concern to all of us: see: as Leina Mestrovic has observed, this is not getting the traction it deserves, these EU plans are nothing less than a thermonuclear option potentially obliterating free sofware, thanks to @juliet reda for being on the trenches on this: "The battle on the EU copyright reform proposal continues, centring on the plan to introduce upload filters. In short, online platforms would be required to monitor their users’ uploads and try to prevent copyright infringement through automated filtering. As most communication online consists of uploads onto different platforms, such “censorship machines” have broad consequences, including for free and open source software (FOSS) repositories. On these platforms, developers from across the world collaborate on software projects that anyone can freely use and adapt. Automated filters would be guaranteed to throw up many false positives. Automatic deletion means uploaders are presumed guilty until proven innocent: Legitimate contributions would be blocked. The recent outcry about this in the FOSS community is showing some results: Our concerns are getting lawmakers’ attention. Unfortunately, though, most are misunderstanding the issue and drawing the wrong conclusions. Now that we know how powerful the community’s voice is, it is all the more important to keep speaking up!" https://juliareda.eu/2018/04/free-software-censorship-machines/ -- P2P Foundation: http://p2pfoundation.net - http://blog.p2pfoundation.net Connect: http://p2pfoundation.ning.com; Discuss: http://lists.ourproject.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/p2p-foundation Updates: http://del.icio.us/mbauwens; http://friendfeed.com/mbauwens; http://twitter.com/mbauwens; http://www.facebook.com/mbauwens

And the below event that aims to connect EEEE theory of mind and cognition theory to Marxism, does so almost in an identical way as it was done by Bogdanov; by locating labour and conscious labour activity and collective social consciousness (extended cognition) at the center of the integrity between energy-matter and information; relationship between material and mental reality, or monism of matter and mind. Conference *Title*: *The Division of Labour and the Development of the Self*: What can ‘EEEE’ Cognition Theories Tell Us About the Capitalist Paradigm of Development? Conference *Dates*: *July 14th - 15th 2018* Abstracts Submission* Deadline: May 20th 2018* *Location*: Room G.07, Informatics Forum, The University of Edinburgh *Speakers*: Dave Ward (University of Edinburgh) Miranda Anderson (University of Edinburgh) *tbc* Ross Abbinnett (University of Birmingham) *tbc* Anselm Jappe (University of Sassari) *tbc* *CALL for Abstracts * *This conference aims to discuss the interconnections between the ‘EEEE’ theories of cognition, and Marx’s theory of historical materialism and the labour-value dialectic. We will ask whether putting the two to dialogue can help us critically interrogate the present model of social development, with respect to the fundamental role played in it by the division of labour. * *Key to the embodied, enacted, embedded and extended theories of mind in the Philosophy of Cognition, is the idea that thinking and mental representation can be explained only on account of the strict interdependence of the brain and the social and natural environment. The perceptual and sensory-motor systems both store and elaborate upon information about the latter, defining our possibilities for understanding and action to such an extent, that some have suggested we should talk of ‘skillful intentionality’. The more we discover about the mechanisms intermingling world, body and thought the more the ‘aboutness’ of intentionality, or the why of mental states, dispositions, values and intentions, seems the collapse into this action-oriented dialectic. Marx centred his philosophy on the critique of the separation of mind and body that was posited by the Kantian and Hegelian traditions, as much as by Smith’s and Ricardo’s political economic theories; both of which were foundational to the construction of democratic institutions in the West. Key to most of his writings is the analysis of the role of labour as an instrument to the reproduction of the capitalist economic model, a component part of the system of social domination that the latter generates. Marx tried to distinguish between a positive notion of labour, capable of unifying, through action, body and mind; and a negative notion of labour, ‘labour in capitalism’: a labour to which capitalism negated the search for meaning through purposeful social interaction. Such negative alienation, which transfers the rationality and meaning of work outside of our immediate activity and forces labour to seek its self-fulfillment in the unstable realm of social status, is for Marx the consequence of the capitalist division of labour. For the philosopher, the solution to this problem had to lay on the reconfiguring of production to commend the positive aspects of alienation as a necessary component of social living. Thereafter, positive labour would imply not the alienation of the product of one’s work but rather the constant improvement of one’s cognitive abilities through active cooperation. ‘EEEE’ theories of cognition emphasise the way in which cognitive capacities depend on bodily, environmental, cultural and interactive factors and processes.'Marx’s social philosophy puts the dialectical notion of ‘activity’ at the centre of meaning-making and epistemology. Both, therefore, stress on the importance of investigating the relationship between concrete cultural practices and individual cognition, mental representations and intentionality. By putting the two to dialogue, we think, the theoretical-practical debate on the foundations of the capitalist model of development can find new constructive inspiration.* *Reading Suggestions:* Tummolini et al. (2006). “From Extended Mind to Collective Mind” Clark, A. (2007). “Curing Cognitive Hiccups: A Defense of the Extended Mind” Pfeifer, R., & Bongard, J. "Towards a History of the Critique of Value" Papers are invited that engage critically with the themes briefly presented above. Submissions should show an interest in the practical consequences of their critical investigation, in terms of how the capitalist mode of production influences the way we conduct our life, and conceive of the processes of education and socialization. Fields of enquiry worth focusing on, alongside studies by Marx, Marxism and on EEEEC, are (though not limited to): critical social theory, social anthropology, neuroanthropology, psychology, social psychology, philosophy, phenomenology. *Abstracts *(*500 words*) of the papers should be *submitted to the email address marxandeeeec(a)gmail.com <marxandeeeec(a)gmail.com>*, no later than *May 20th, 2018*. Feedback on the result of individual applications will be sent via email no later than June 1st, 2018. Ideally, full papers should be then submitted by July 5th, 2018.
