Anarchist Studies 2022 Conference Call for Papers: 'Anarchist Futures'
by Davis, Laurence 22 Feb '22

22 Feb '22

Dear friends, The following call for papers may be of interest: https://anarchiststudiesnetwork.org/anarchist-studies-conference-2022-call-… ANARCHIST STUDIES CONFERENCE 2022 CALL FOR PAPERS Anarchist Studies Network // 7th International Conference // Online Bitte scrollen Sie nach unten für andere Sprachen/ Por favor, desplácese hacia abajo para otros idiomas/ Veuillez faire défiler vers le bas pour d’autres langues/ Si prega di scorrere verso il basso per altre lingue/Информация на других языках доступна ниже Call for Papers: Anarchist Futures Often called idealists, dreamers, unrealistic, anarchists have a complex relationship to the future. We imagine it, theorise it, work for it. We try to bring it to the present. We draw blueprints of what it might be like. We nurture connections that reflect our hopes. We imagine new worlds, living in the future whilst changing the present. However, utopian thought can be considered both an incentive and a discouragement to action. Its complexity and relationship to the future is particularly meaningful for anarchists. After all, how can political thought be fully understood without projecting ourselves and collectively into the future? Anarchist utopias from the early News Of Nowhere (William Morris, 1890) to The Dispossessed (Ursula K Le Guin, 1974) and other recent fiction has underlined the role of imagining the future in order to build a better world. Anarchist Futures is a call to think about possibilities, gaps and interstices where anarchist futures exist. It is an encouragement to walk the bridge of time and make the future present. It is a hope that we can draw lines of solidarity and community which redefine the current state of affairs so that the future is anarchist. The 7th International Conference of the Anarchist Studies Network will be held as an online event on 24th-26th August, subject to change to hybrid if we find a suitable location. ASN conferences aim to broach new frontiers in anarchist scholarship and encourage cross-pollination between disciplines. We also invite people who don’t usually reside in or feel comfortable in academia to do workshops, talk about their work, projects, plans and build connections. The central theme for this conference is Anarchist Futures. A list of suggested topics includes, but is not limited to, the following: * How do we imagine the future? What does an anarchist society look like? * How do we imagine a world without prisons, the state or police? * How did anarchists in the past imagine the future? Did we get there? * How does literature and art envision an anarchist future? * How do we act for the future now? * What is needed to change the future? * Who are the actors of change? * What is the role of imagination in changing the world? * What is the relationship between anarchist theory and the future? As usual, ASN also welcomes submissions that do not reference the main topic but are related to anarchist theory and practice. We also welcome panels and streams on a particular topic. We particularly welcome submissions outside the traditional academic format, such as performances, exhibitions, workshops, among others. We are happy to accommodate papers in any language, but please send an abstract in English. Please indicate whether you want to present online or in person. Abstracts should be sent by 30 April 2022 to asn.conference(a)protonmail.com We aim to facilitate and accommodate all accessibility needs, including but not limited to wheelchair access, hearing loops, quiet rooms, child-care and material support for low-waged participants. Please do get in touch with any specific questions, needs or comments and we will do our best to meet them. Best wishes, Laurence Dr. Laurence Davis Director of the BSc Government and Political Science Department of Government and Politics University College Cork, Ireland http://publish.ucc.ie/profiles/B007/ldavis UCC is proud to hold an Athena SWAN Bronze Award. INITIATING ENQUIRY
by Jinan K B 18 Feb '22

18 Feb '22

Please help. I am trying to get together parents to become learners and become models for children to awaken their learning ability. The biggest fallout of the modern educational paradigm is the loss of knowledge creation in society so much so that even the knowledge to look after children is gone. Parents are depending on books and authorities to look after children and this is what children are experiencing the day in and day out. Unfortunately, children learn what they experience and imbibe this nature of dependency from their parents. Also their anxiety, stress, etc I have worked out an interesting way to turn this around. During the Covid lockdown, we worked with a group of parents and asked them to let children do what they feel like and just document what children do naturally and spontaneously. We specifically requested the parents not to interfere, guide, etc. We also requested parents to make a few changes in the house. This made the parents begin to observe their children keenly and then the magic began to happen. Parents were able to bring back joy, creativity, and exploration into the lives of children and the parents themselves became freer and less anxious. They were able to see the logic behind the so-called meaningless activity that children were doing. There is a need to rediscover our innate abilities. We are trying to get more parents into this activity and request your help in sharing this brochure. -- Jinan, TEXT DISTORTS, DIGITAL DESTROYS, WORLD AWAKENS http://kbjinan.in/ <http://jinankb.in/> http://ekfoundation.in/ https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC80rT8Zj1EE8TrzD3UreYfQ www.re-cognition.org https://independent.academia.edu/JinanKodapully 09447121544

A new article on RED - "Is post-capitalism post-money"?
by Pallav Das 17 Feb '22

17 Feb '22

Friends, A new article, "Is post-capitalism post-money?" by Anitra Nelson has been uploaded to the Radical Ecological Democracy website: https://radicalecologicaldemocracy.org/is-post-capitalism-post-money%ef%bf%… If money is the lynchpin of the contemporary capitalist order then it is imperative that an alternative to that world is imagined and crafted outside the constraints of money. In her path-breaking new book, “Beyond Money, A Post-Capitalist Strategy”, Anitra Nelson lays the ideological foundation of a post-money society based on real, non-monetary, social and ecological values that define a new order committed to fulfilling people’s basic needs. In this exclusive article for RED, Nelson provides an insight into her revolutionary ideas essential for designing a world without socio-economic inequality and crippling environmental stresses. Please take a look and join the discussion on RED listserv and the website discussion forum. The author is copied here in case you would like to contact her directly. This is the first article in a three part series that RED has planned on Anitra Nelson's book. Also, Pluto Press is offering the RED readers an exclusive 30% discount on the book - the details are available at the end of the article. This discount ends on the 30th of April/2022. Best, Pallav

Fwd: [altforumpune] A NO-TEACHING PEDAGOGY to enable knowledge creation and awakening aesthetic sense

I am trying to initiate discussions on three aspects. One is knowledge creation, the second is the role of the sense of beauty in cognition, and the third challenging the very notion of teaching. That is one who has actually created knowledge only would know the fallacy that teaching would result in learning. The fragmented approach to art is another myth of modernity. What is taught as fragments do not get synthesized automatically as our cognitive system is equipped to learn holistically. The way we learned our mother tongue - without neither knowing grammar nor knowing the meaning of each word we are able to speak fluently. Even though I did not do any teaching, the way I approached elements of design was to start with various elements one by one and then go into the principles also one after the other. By this approach, a proper synthesis doesn’t happen. This is the way we were taught the second language where we learned first the meaning of many words and the grammar but we did not know how to speak. Putting together these elements and rules later does not work. So, like in the way how we learn our mother tongue, we started with experiencing beauty, and then as we began to reflect on why something is beautiful we were able to see what are the constituents of beauty and how it all came together to constitute beauty. -- Jinan, TEXT DISTORTS, DIGITAL DESTROYS, WORLD AWAKENS http://kbjinan.in/ <http://jinankb.in/> http://ekfoundation.in/ https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC80rT8Zj1EE8TrzD3UreYfQ www.re-cognition.org https://independent.academia.edu/JinanKodapully 09447121544 -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Alternatives Forum, Pune" group.
