STOP DESIGN THINKING - Save yourselves from design thinkers
by Jinan K B 23 Jun '23

23 Jun '23

STOP DESIGN THINKING I have uploaded a paper at Academia and medium about how to understand the modern mindset by examining the term design thinking. Join me to discuss this https://www.academia.edu/s/b416e3384b or you can read about the same at https://jinankb.medium.com/stop-design-thinking-c6ffc24148d1 One doesn’t require an anthropologist, sociologist, psychologist, and least of all a cognitive scientist to understand the modern mindset. Just a bit of common sense (the most uncommon in modernity which is what schooling takes away) will do. A proper examination of the term ‘design thinking’ will do. How they bring in two totally diverse phenomena together in words and pretend the job is done. This is the same drama with first fragmenting knowledge into various subjects and making the pretense of integrating all by just creating a few terms- multi-disciplinary, inter-disciplinary, etc… It is interesting another nature of the modern mindset which can be called an ‘afterthought’. This means first destroy, make this as default and then pretend for the first time a solution is provided. Take the usage ‘out of the box thinking. A much-celebrated usage…. The stupidity of the modern mindset is that they are not asking why are you in the box in the first place. Who put us in? So, our default setting is in the box, fragmented……. And instead of trying to find the root cause, a temporary solution is offered. Next Micro-conference to Re-imagine Education on 💠 CULTURE CHANGE 💠 TRANSFORMING THROUGH CONNECTION Sign up here https://re-imagining.education/micro-conferences/ More info here: Save the Date & Event Schedule Hello dear friends! We're cooking up another microconference - at this one we'll be exploring culture change. Culture is a curious thing. It gets summarized in travel guides and discussed in academic circles yet ultimately it's enlivened by each of us as we engage with the world. How does culture get created... in your territory, your places of learning and work, your home? Who and what is shaping this culture? The current schooling system was created within a narrow cultural context and perpetuates a separationist worldview. As we reimagine education, let's consider the 'water we swim in'. *💠 C <https://education.us1.list-manage.com/track/click?u=575899db5f6c8bbb9271ada…>ULTURE CHANGE <https://education.us1.list-manage.com/track/click?u=575899db5f6c8bbb9271ada…> 💠* *TRANSFORMING THROUGH CONNECTION * *Wednesday, NOVEMBER 30th* 2:30 PM - 7 PM GMT // 9:30 AM - 2 PM Eastern Time Every day we get a plethora of opportunities to shape culture in subtle ways. We wish for you to join us as we play and learn with those who have put years of thought, care, and love into intentionally shaping culture. A clash of worldviews | Meer
by Ashish Kothari 19 Nov '22

Friends, this article, based on the recently concuded 'Indigenous and Community Worldviews Vikalp Sangam' (Alternatives Confluence) in southern India, may be of interest. The gathering involved members of several Adivasi (Indigenous)/pastoral/farmer/Dalit groups from various parts of India, and discussions included themes like governance, ecology, inter-generational learning, faiths/spiritual traditions, story-telling, forest/ecosystem rights, etc. Given the continued failure of nation-states in resolving the most pressing problems we face, including climate/ecological collapse, inequality and exploitation, war and conflict, the urgency of listening to worldviews of such peoples is greater than ever. https://www.meer.com/en/71355-a-clash-of-worldviews Comments are welcome, pl. mail me *directly and not on the lists,* unless you want to initiate a conversation on one of these lists. apologies for cross-posting if any ashish -- Ashish Kothari New, for post-COVID dignified livelihoods in India! Fwd: [GTA] NOVEMBER 16th | Webinar: "Cosmopolitical learning: some reflections on praxis"
by Urvi Shah 16 Nov '22

16 Nov '22

---------- Forwarded message --------- From: Global Tapestry of Alternatives < globaltapestryofalternatives(a)riseup.net> Date: Tue, Nov 1, 2022 at 5:49 AM Subject: [GTA] NOVEMBER 16th | Webinar: "Cosmopolitical learning: some reflections on praxis" To: GTA Observers <global-tapestry-alternatives-observers(a)lists.riseup.net> * Learnings for Alternative Futures *- a Webinar series Cosmopolitical learning: some reflections on praxis with *Udi Mandel, Gerardo Lopez-Amaro, Kelly Teamey and Rosemary Logan* ------------------------------ *Wednesday November 16th - 16:00 *(UTC/GMT) This session brings together friends affiliated with the Enlivened Cooperative who have been engaging in what we have been referring to as cosmopolitical learning. This refers to the practice of learning with, in between, across and beyond distinct ontologies, especially alongside indigenous teachers and in/from place. Cosmopolitics, first coined by philosopher of science Isabelle Stengers (2005), is a concept intended as an antidote, a slowing down, to the practices and processes of the ontological commitments characteristic of modernity. This opens the possibility of engaging with the cosmos as not a predetermined entity already named and described according to particular disciplinary methods and epistemologies, but rather as messy, plural and becoming, open to other ways of knowing and being in relationship with. At the same, cosmopolitics brings into focus how non-human actors, such as mountains, forests, rivers and others are also subjects and political beings who ought to be included into the constitutional arrangements of how we order our world. More information and registration <https://globaltapestryofalternatives.org/webinars:2022:learning:04> Direct access to the session <https://globaltapestryofalternatives.org/webinars/live> *This webinar series, called "Learning for Alternative Futures" <https://globaltapestryofalternatives.org/webinars:2022:learning:index>, *is co-organised by Ecoversities <https://ecoversities.org/>, Educere Alliance <https://www.educerealliance.org/>, Global Tapestry of Alternatives <https://globaltapestryofalternatives.org/>, PeDAGoG <https://globaltapestryofalternatives.org/pedagog>, Radical Ecological Democracy <https://radicalecologicaldemocracy.org/>, The Alternatives Project <https://thealternativesproject.org/> and Wellbeing Economy Alliance <https://weall.org/>. <https://globaltapestryofalternatives.org/webinars:2022:learning:04> In the session we will share experiences from Mexico, Peru, Hawai’i, New Zealand and the US that engage with these practices and the kinds of learning that has emerged from participants. Further, the seminar will be an opportunity to collectively reflect on what this kind of work looks like in the contexts and practices that you engage with and how we might support each other in this kind of work. About the presenters *Udi Mandel* Over the last 20 years Udi has been active in ethnographic and participatory action research on issues of social, ecological and epistemic justice and regenerative practices that can bring human and ecological flourishing. He has taught social anthropology, communication and sustainability in universities in the UK, US, Brazil and Costa Rica and collaborated with communities in Europe, the Pacific, North and Latin America, especially with indigenous and grassroots organizations. With other friends he co-founded the Enlivened Cooperative, Enlivened Learning and the Ecoversities Alliance. *Gerardo Lopez-Amaro* His interests include co-labor, participatory-action research with people in territories where stained experiments and practices around Buen Vivir and cognitive, climate and relational justice are taking place, participating in a planetary, trans-generational learning ecosystem to birth worlds of dignity. *Kelly Teamey* She has been active in the fields of international/sustainable development and education for the past 20 years. Her work has focused on critical approaches to educational policy and practices within internation- al development contexts, looking particularly at how education, learning, and pedagogies can become transformative, holistic, and sustainably con- nected to local ecologies and communities. *Rosemary Logan* She has spent the last 20+years teaching at the intersections of sustainability education, transformative learning and sustainable food systems. From integrative and participatory, community-based research and learning in museums and K-12 schools to sustainable food systems, field-based learning, and permaculture design within higher education, she seeks to create spaces for learning that nurture transformations of self, community, and the earth. Please do view, read, ponder – to find out what Earth Jurisprudence is and why we need to start telling another story about our place on Earth that is both new and ancient. If you feel inspired, we would love for you to share with your networks and through social media. I attach a social media toolkit in case helpful. We really hope that you enjoy these offerings which honour Thomas Berry’s legacy on the anniversary of his birth. If you would like to subscribe to receive future Earth Jurisprudence Updates, you can do so here<https://www.gaianet.org/>. With warm wishes, Carlotta [Logo Description automatically generated] Carlotta Byrne Earth Jurisprudence Programme Lead From: Gaia Foundation <info(a)gaianet.org> Date: Wednesday, 9 November 2022 at 10:39 To: Carlotta Byrne <carlotta(a)gaianet.org> Subject: Earth Jurisprudence Explained How a moment in a meadow seeded a global movement... ‌ ‌ ‌ [Gaia Foundation]<http://links.wfmail1.co.uk/ls/click?upn=t2F7JfnXz9Vcfqze502GcgyECKUFNgxRIVe…> [https://hubble-live-assets.s3.amazonaws.com/gaiafoundation/redactor2_assets…] Greetings Friends and Allies, On the anniversary of Thomas Berry’s birthday, we share an interactive story and new animation reflecting on how his philosophy of Earth Jurisprudence emerged, narrated by poet and Earth justice advocate Nnimmo Bassey. We stand at a crossroads in human history with government leaders convening for conferences on climate change and biodiversity in the next few weeks. Meanwhile, the fabric of life is unravelling. "The deepest crises experienced by any society are those moments of change when the story becomes inadequate for meeting the survival demands of the present situation.” – Thomas Berry At this critical time, we invite you to share a new story that is also very ancient. Earth Jurisprudence encourages us to remember and re-establish a mutually enhancing relationship with our living world. It acknowledges indigenous ways of seeing as foundational to the transformation required and is gaining momentum within the industrial growth society that is holding life to ransom.
