Seeking diverse voices: Global Round Table on Place-Based Environment Education at school level
by Pallavi Varma- Patil 30 Mar '26

Dear friends, I’m currently mapping out a virtual workshop focused on the diverse ways Place-Based Environmental Education at K-12 / school level is practiced and theorized around the world. I am looking to connect with practitioners and /or academics who can offer a localized "definition and demo" of their work online. I am hoping for a broad geographic representation. If you—or someone you know—would be interested , please reach out or drop a name in this thread. Looking forward to hearing from you. Cheers, Pallavi https://naitaleem.wordpress.com/

Friends, pl. see below ... if you are aware of such existing collaborations, or would like to engage in them, do pl. respond as requested. thanks ashish Ashish Kothari Apt 5 Shree Datta Krupa 908 Deccan Gymkhana Pune 411004, India https://ashishkothari.in -------- Forwarded Message -------- Subject: [GTA-Assembly] Specific Request for Rojava Solidarity Date: Tue, 17 Mar 2026 18:46:57 -0400 From: Marina Sitrin (via global-tapestry-alternatives-assembly Mailing List) <global-tapestry-alternatives-assembly(a)lists.riseup.net> Reply-To: marina.sitrin(a)gmail.com To: global-tapestry-alternatives-assembly(a)lists.riseup.net Dear friends/compañer@s/hevalti, On March 13th a group of people connected to over a dozen universities from Mexico, Canada & the US - including the universities in Rojava - met and proposed a few specific things that we can do to support the universities in Rojava in this critical moment. The urgency of the situation was explained in the meeting and an update from on the ground was made, which I can share. In sum - “Negotiations” are still taking place with the Syrian state and universities in Rojava – with the future of autonomy, women’s participation, jineology, the right to education in indigenous languages all at risk. In this context, expressing solidarity and the intention to continue (or create) relationships with the universities in Rojava - as they are now - is essential and could be very helpful as the "negotiations" continue. As a new Americas Scholars Network for Rojava we agreed to move ahead with a campaign to collect letters expressing the intention to collaborate with universities in Rojava, or/and outlining past collaborations. The universities in Rojava will write the memo that will go with the letters for their “negotiations”. These letters can come from departments, programs, individuals in universities (ideally all on letterhead) and people and groups that are a part of knowledge production, such as movement education groups, publishers, bookstores etc.. A template for these letters is below. *Please send letters to: info(a)defendrojava.org, **ozlemgoner84(a)gmail.com, emre125(a)gmail.com* We can share the sociology department at Binghamton U.'s letter & another in Spanish if requested. We are happy to talk about this and review any draft letters as is useful. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1zXgyn9XRmIuJDvGCe_PB_YeGhxMIPQHJrkwdlqg… Solidarity & Struggle! Marina & Ozlem (marina.sitrin(a)gmail.com & ozlemgoner84(a)gmail.com) P.S. Please share as widely as possible - around the globe.

Governing International Commons: from Polycentric to Pluractional Governance in the Amazon': A Book Talk Tickets, Friday, Jun 19 from 1:15 pm to 3:05 pm | Eventbrite
by Ana Cecilia Dinerstein 09 Mar '26

Sear All Invitation for a book discussion relevant for the GTA My former PhD student from Peru will visit Bath, and he will launch his new book on governing the commons Friday, Jun 19 from 1:15 pm to 3:05 pm | Eventbrite This event will be hybrid. A joining link will be sent closer to the time for those wishing to attend online. Abstract The Amazon rainforest is a vital carbon reservoir and climate regulator, yet global demand for its natural resources is leading to irreversible environmental damage, impacting the planet’s water cycle, climate, and food security. How to balance the interests of the eight Amazon basin states with these global environmental concerns, and the ancestral rights of the over 400 indigenous peoples that live there? Building on fieldwork in Peru, Brazil, and Ecuador, this book provides a novel multi-scalar and multi-sectoral analysis of the Amazon. In doing so, it argues that the current governance of the Amazon exhibits the policy failures of polycentricity, with different authorities developing localised environmental initiatives with weak coordination. It sets out a policy paradigm shift to plurinational governance that incorporates indigenous peoples and conservation scientists in international decision-making.This book will interest academics of environmental law, politics and governance, and policymakers and practitioners involved in global environmental governance in general and international commons and the Amazonian region in particular. Join Dr Roger Merino as he discusses his book 'Governing International Commons: from Polycentric to Pluractional Governance in the Amazon. ’ Dr Roger Merino is an Associate Professor at the Public Management School, University of the Pacific (Universidad del Pacífico), Lima, Peru. He has been a research associate at the University of Georgia’s Centre for Integrative Conservation Research and a former Visiting Scholar at Harvard’s Institute for Global Law and Policy. He holds a PhD in Social and Policy Sciences from the University of Bath, and a master’s degree in International Policy and Comparative Law. He has authored numerous research articles, book chapters, and a monograph on issues of political ecology, environmental governance, human rights, and international environmental law. The chair and discussant will be Dr Mihika Chaterjee. Mihika Chaterjee is a political economist with an interdisciplinary orientation to international development. She is a Lecturer in International Development, and Co-Director of Centre for Development Studies <https://www.bath.ac.uk/research-centres/centre-for-development-studies/>, University of Bath. Mihika’s current research straddles two interlinked strands. The first is focused on the politics of land dispossession and rural industrialisation in Western India. The second examines the contemporary role of finance in global food regimes and issues of food production and access in the agrarian South. She co-convenes the joint study group on ‘Land, Labour, and Food’ <https://eur01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.devst…> for the Development Studies Association and European Association of Development Research and Training Institutes.
