STOP DESIGN THINKING - Save yourselves from design thinkers
by Jinan K B 23 Jun '23

23 Jun '23

STOP DESIGN THINKING I have uploaded a paper at Academia and medium about how to understand the modern mindset by examining the term design thinking. Join me to discuss this https://www.academia.edu/s/b416e3384b or you can read about the same at https://jinankb.medium.com/stop-design-thinking-c6ffc24148d1 One doesn’t require an anthropologist, sociologist, psychologist, and least of all a cognitive scientist to understand the modern mindset. Just a bit of common sense (the most uncommon in modernity which is what schooling takes away) will do. A proper examination of the term ‘design thinking’ will do. How they bring in two totally diverse phenomena together in words and pretend the job is done. This is the same drama with first fragmenting knowledge into various subjects and making the pretense of integrating all by just creating a few terms- multi-disciplinary, inter-disciplinary, etc… It is interesting another nature of the modern mindset which can be called an ‘afterthought’. This means first destroy, make this as default and then pretend for the first time a solution is provided. Take the usage ‘out of the box thinking. A much-celebrated usage…. The stupidity of the modern mindset is that they are not asking why are you in the box in the first place. Who put us in? So, our default setting is in the box, fragmented……. And instead of trying to find the root cause, a temporary solution is offered. A new article on REDWeb - "Carbon commodification in the Peruvian Amazon: The Kichwa People's Struggle Against Territorial and Climate Destruction"
by Pallav Das 26 Jul '22

26 Jul '22

Friends, A new article, *"Carbon commodification in the Peruvian Amazon: The Kichwa People's Struggle Against Territorial and Climate Destruction" * has been uploaded on REDWeb: https://radicalecologicaldemocracy.org/carbon-commodification-in-the-peruvi… The contemporary model of “fortress conservation” continues to dispossess Indigenous Peoples around the world of their territories to justify the implementation of dubious projects pushing climate change mitigation mechanisms and biodiversity conservation actions. It ignores the ancient rights of communities over their territories, and actively impairs their own local governance systems perfected over time. The resistance to this fraudulent attempt at conservation, however, is gaining ground all over the world. In this article on the emerging issues in Peru, Matias Pérez Ojeda del Arco discusses the ongoing struggle of the Kichwa people to ensure the enjoyment of their traditional livelihoods and the continuation of their territorialities and relationalities with their forests. While the situation is far from perfect, this contestation has allowed for the creation of an “alternative” paradigm where the communities are recognized as key actors for any conservation action undertaken by the Peruvian State to meet its climate commitments. Please take a look and join the discussion on REDWeb listserv or the website discussion forum. The author is copied here in case you would like to contact him directly. Best, Pallav

Workshop: Decolonial Economic Methods, seminar and update / Taller: métodos económicos decoloniales, seminario y actualización

***ESPAÑOL ABAJO*** San Cristóbal de las Casas, Thursday, July 21, 2022 Dear community, I hope you are doing well. I’d like to share and update you on what has been happening within our Colectiva El Cambalache. My name is Mildred and I am one of the members of this life project, I am honored and grateful to be part of this cambalachero dream. As you know, our collective is going through a situation of vulnerability, we are going through a latent threat of eviction by the owners of the property where we live. Even with all this, we have a positive energy, we continue in a constant process of growth in which learning and work have been, in large part, our motive to continue weaving collectively and generating activities of sharing with the community. Being a "cambalachera" has been a pleasant and unique experience that has transformed my life and has made me see that working collectively allows me to support, accompany and grow alongside other women. Personally, the area of knowledge exchange within Cambalache inspires me, since we have the opportunity to learn, share and nourish ourselves with the knowledge that each one of us has to give. We are excited to announce that this fall we will be running our workshop on Decolonial Economic Methods: Make Your Own Non-Capitalist Economy. If you would like to register or learn more check out our blog: https://cambalache.noblogs.org/post/2022/07/20/workshop-online-sep-2022-tal… <https://cambalache.noblogs.org/post/2022/07/20/workshop-online-sep-2022-tal…> This Thursday, July 21st we will have the Seminar ¨Our collective economies¨ we will talk about what is decolonial feminism, from theory, practice and our reflections. Our next seminar will be on Thursday, July 28th and you can register here to receive updates, zoom links and videos from past seminars: https://share.mayfirst.org/apps/forms/J9zdNwJ9kBxPrqHs <https://share.mayfirst.org/apps/forms/J9zdNwJ9kBxPrqHs> We also want to share with you the link of last week's seminar where we shared about: What is decolonial practice and why it opens paths to wellbeing for us. ***ESPAÑOL ABAJO*** San Cristóbal de Las Casas, July 14th, 2022 Dear Friends, The Colectiva El Cambalache sends you our best regards. My name is Belkis, one of the generators of the collective. I would like to tell you that although we are still in danger of eviction and in the process of funding, we continue to work. This Thursday, July 14th from 11am.-1pm. CST, our Department of Decolonial Economics will have our second session of the Seminar Our Collective Economies, where we will be exchanging-reflecting about: What is decolonial practice and why it opens paths to well-being for us. On the same day we will have a face-to-face workshop on Bioconstruction. In our space the exchange of knowledge implies a continuous and diverse dynamic of activities and learning. Personally, this has enriched me a lot, especially the daily learning obtained in collective work, when we cook, clean the space, prepare the garden, prepare the workshops and seminars, there, practice and theory go hand in hand and I feel I am living one of the pillars of the project: to appreciate without hierarchy the value of things, knowledge, people. We invite you to be with us, to learn about our weekly activities of exchange of knowledge (workshops and seminars) both local and international, on-site and online. We would be delighted if you would like to join us and accompany us in our dream of having our own home for the project. So far we have 12 sponsors on Patreon, 161 donations on GoFundMe and more than 752 signatures on Change.org; thank you for your solidarity and support, we hope to continue counting on your support. To get to know us better we suggest you visit our social media networks where you can share your opinions, experiences or suggestions that will always be welcome.
