STOP DESIGN THINKING - Save yourselves from design thinkers
by Jinan K B 23 Jun '23

23 Jun '23

STOP DESIGN THINKING I have uploaded a paper at Academia and medium about how to understand the modern mindset by examining the term design thinking. Join me to discuss this https://www.academia.edu/s/b416e3384b or you can read about the same at https://jinankb.medium.com/stop-design-thinking-c6ffc24148d1 One doesn’t require an anthropologist, sociologist, psychologist, and least of all a cognitive scientist to understand the modern mindset. Just a bit of common sense (the most uncommon in modernity which is what schooling takes away) will do. A proper examination of the term ‘design thinking’ will do. How they bring in two totally diverse phenomena together in words and pretend the job is done. This is the same drama with first fragmenting knowledge into various subjects and making the pretense of integrating all by just creating a few terms- multi-disciplinary, inter-disciplinary, etc… It is interesting another nature of the modern mindset which can be called an ‘afterthought’. This means first destroy, make this as default and then pretend for the first time a solution is provided. Take the usage ‘out of the box thinking. A much-celebrated usage…. The stupidity of the modern mindset is that they are not asking why are you in the box in the first place. Who put us in? So, our default setting is in the box, fragmented……. And instead of trying to find the root cause, a temporary solution is offered. Role of natives in the last mile of climate awareness
by Nyambura Mbau 18 May '23

18 May '23

Hi, Saw a post yesterday. Climate awareness first went viral 70 years ago thanks to a Canadian scientist named Gilbert Plass. 70 years later, most of the marginalised communities disproportionately affected by climate change also happen to be least aware of the science behind it. Find out how natives are a resource in transferring a factual understanding of climate change to rural sub-Sahara Africa in the link below. The article attached also discusses the prevalence of climate awareness in rural sub-Sahara Africa, and what awareness means to sub-Sahara Africa versus what it has meant to the global north. Politics and practices of an autonomous technology: voices from the May First membership
by Melanie Bush 07 May '23

07 May '23

This may be of interest: A recently released report by May First Movement Technology, "P *olitics and practices of an autonomous technology: voices from the May First membership*," based on extensive interviews, explores why and how social justice movement organizers and activists are building a sustainable and powerful alternative to corporate technology. At a time when public confidence in corporate technology is at an all time low, the authors ask: " *How could we design technologies in a consensual way, in order to support both people and our planet?"* The report attempts to answer the question, based on the 18 year history of May First Movement Technology and the reflections of staff and members. According to Alice Aguilar, the co-chair of May First and one of the authors of the report, "It's not possible to have a truly collective approach to technology without cultivating a radically inclusive space that is representative of our movements. For us, building autonomous technology and movement organizing go hand-in-hand - we can't win without understanding how inseparable they are." The report features interviews with organizers in the US, Mexico, Canada, the UK and Colombia engaged in working on issues ranging from media to abortion rights to community organizing. The content centers on the experiences of building collective technology, but also includes the challenges of organizing across borders and languages, creating inclusive and democratic processes and cultures, and integrating the diverse politics of the left. In other words, it's about the future of our movement. The report was written by May First board members Jes Ciacci, Estrella Soria, Alice Aguilar and Melanie Bush. The authors are available for interviews. Contact info(a)mayfirst.org for more information. The report is available here: English https://mayfirst.coop/en/post/2023/autonomous-technology Spanish https://mayfirst.coop/es/post/2023/autonomous-technology) The report explores questions such as: * How could we design technologies in a consensual way, in order to support both people and our planet? Is it really possible to collectively build our own Internet infrastructure? * *“Say briefly, speak slowly and listen profoundly” *This report is about collectively owned technology but really describes movement organizing in the 21st century!

by nati conrazon 03 May '23

03 May '23

Please share with your networks. "Economics for Emancipation" is a seven-module no-cost introductory curriculum that offers a deep critical dive into the current political economic system, exploration of alternative economic systems, and dynamic tools to dream and build the economy that centers care, relationship, and liberation. www.economics4emancipation.net A free introductory curriculum on capitalism, solidarity, & how we get free *Economics for Emancipation is here! * A free introductory curriculum on capitalism, solidarity, & how we get free [image: An illustrated graphic with ''Economics for Emancipation'' against a green star backsplash on the top right corner. On the left are four rounded mounds next to each other in yellow green, green, red-orange, and black. From left to right,, there are drawings of a person shouting into a speaker amplifier, a person reading to a group of four children, a clock. Next to those colored mounds is a mountain range with four scenes happening on top of it: a person holding up a rake, a person in a wheelchair, a dog walking, and a person carrying a child.] Hello, The Center for Economic Democracy is excited to launch *Economics for Emancipation (E4E)*, a seven-module introductory curriculum that offers a deep critical dive into the current political economic system, exploration of alternative economic systems, and dynamic tools to dream and build the economy that centers care, relationship, and liberation. *WHAT?* E4E has been shaped by decades of dialogue between progressive economists, grassroots organizers, and rank & file union workers; we hope it will strengthen your analysis, fuel your spirit and connect you to efforts challenging this economic system at its root. Our portal offers free access to the online curriculum materials, which includes 25+ self-guided video lessons, an interactive workbook, and a facilitator guide for the workshops. [image: A giphy of of an animation that ends with the text ''How does it feel to be alive in the solidarity economy?''] <https://click.everyaction.com/k/60186453/396288011/1975050996?nvep=ew0KICAi…> *WHO?* This course was created using a popular education approach that is accessible to organizers, educators, activists, and community members. If you are a member or leader of a grassroots or movement organization, this curriculum was designed to support your organizing work in your community. We recommend that you gather a group of up to 25 people with a lead educator/facilitator to dive into the study and praxis of our course. Individuals can also take the course alone with the videos and interactive workbook. *Visit our site* <https://click.everyaction.com/k/60186454/396288012/-787506205?nvep=ew0KICAi…> *WHY?* COVID has surfaced and emphasized the many failures of our current economic system in meeting the needs of people and the planet. It has also surfaced our ability to create structures of support and solidarity. We have a responsibility as organizers and educators in US-based social movements to bring our people in, move slower and study together. Not because we stop fighting the bad, but because in studying we draw inspiration from ancestors who had similar fights over the centuries and learn from their experiences. We become more strategic thinkers and deepen our analysis of social problems and the possible routes to freedom. *OUR STORY * The current version of this course is the result of many years of work first led by the Center for Popular Economics (CPE) – a collective which was founded in 1979 by radical (or heterodox) economists out of the University of Massachusetts Amherst. They ran a yearly “Summer Institute” for union organizers in New England. Since 2019, CPE has partnered with the Center for Economic Democracy (CED) to update and redesign its curriculum into “Economics for Emancipation” (E4E). During the 2020 COVID crisis, CPE and CED worked to adapt E4E for virtual learning geared towards regional cohorts of just transition and social justice organizers, and thus was born this offering. *ABOUT CENTER FOR ECONOMIC DEMOCRACY* The Center for Economic Democracy (CED) <https://click.everyaction.com/k/60186455/396288013/1404532733?nvep=ew0KICAi…> is a US social movement building organization, growing capacity in our communities to transition from capitalism into a just, sustainable, and democratic economy. Based in Boston, CED supports local racial and economic justice initiatives like the Boston Ujima Project, Coalition for Worker Ownership and Power (COWOP), the Solidarity Economy Initiative and The Better Budget Alliance, while offering training and technical assistance for economic democracy efforts across the US. *ABOUT CENTER FOR POPULAR ECONOMICS* The Center for Popular Economics is a nonprofit collective of political economists based in Amherst, MA out of the University of Massachusetts (UMass). Since our founding in 1979, thousands of people have participated in our workshops and Institutes. Our programs and publications demystify the economy and put useful economic tools in the hands of people fighting for social and economic justice. We examine root causes of economic inequality and injustice including systems of oppression based on race, class, gender, nation and ethnicity. We welcome your suggestions and questions. We would especially love to hear about how you plan to use this curriculum! Contact us at info(a)economics4emancipation.net. Warmly, Milind & Sucharita *About the Book:* Human suffering as a result of systemic exploitation, social oppression, corruption, patriarchy, war, endemic poverty, intolerance, religious extremism, democracy deficit, climate crises, etc., is there for everyone to see. The crisis is not only social and political but also ecological, moral and spiritual: a great tear is slowly rending apart the delicate fabric that holds the social and natural order together. There is an urgent call to suture this rift before it is too late, before a total civilizational and ecological collapse. How can we think our way out of this imbroglio? Can the ancient sages and spiritual traditions show a path to happiness and wellbeing? What utopian vision is required to help us re-imagine new responses to old problems of humanity, to usher an era of peace, justice and freedom? How can the wisdom of ages and modern political thought engage constructively to face the challenges of the present and of the future? What role can imagination play in envisioning an ecological and spiritual civilization? Philosophers, thinkers, teachers, activists, researchers, dreamers, and poets explore some of these themes in this book… This book (co-published by Kalpavriksh and Earthcare Books) can be purchased online and is currently available on Kalpavriksh and amazon websites. *To order on Kalpavriksh: *https://kalpavriksh.org/our-store/ecosophies-of-freedom/ ** *To order on Amazon:*Ecosophies of Freedom <https://www.amazon.in/Ecosophies-Freedom-Milind-Wani/dp/8187945931/ref=sr_1…> Ecosophies of Freedom Human suffering as a result of systemic exploitation, social oppression, corruption, patriarchy, war, endemic po... <https://www.amazon.in/Ecosophies-Freedom-Milind-Wani/dp/8187945931/ref=sr_1…> Kalpavriksh- Environment Action Group, Editor- People in Conservation Documentation and Outreach.
