***Apologies for cross-posting*** Dear all, Sharing below an article from colleagues and a collective of critical geographers and scholars. I would also like to introduce myself. I am Mary Ann Manahan, an incoming PhD assistant at the Ghent University's Department of Conflict and Development Studies. My research interests cover systemic transformations, political ecology, gender justice, and social movement resistance struggles. I also co-facilitate the Beyond Development Global Working Group, along with Miriam Lang and Mabrouka M'break. Looking forward to learning and exchanging views/ideas/methods with this group. Best, Mary Ann *From:* Gert Van Hecken *Sent:* vrijdag 28 augustus 2020 11:27 *To:* 'enjust_all(a)lists.uni-kiel.de' <enjust_all(a)lists.uni-kiel.de> *Subject:* Towards a non-extractive and care-driven academia Dear Enjust friends, Please find below a link to a piece we wrote as a collective in which we reflect on the extractive nature of academia, the colonial legacies and "white gaze" that permeates knowledge "creation" in a growth-oriented knowledge economy, and the professionalization of social justice critique. We offer thoughts on how we might reclaim what the university could be – a place that equips people with the knowledge they need to unlearn/unmake/dismantle the framings and worldviews that lend themselves to white supremacy and other forms of oppression more broadly. https://beyonddevelopment.net/towards-a-non-extractive-and- care-driven-academy/ We very much look forward to further feedback, and are very open to a continued exchange of ideas, initiatives, ... Open Discussion and Updates (August 2020)
by Brandon Liu 20 Aug '20

20 Aug '20

Dear all, Welcome to the many new members who have joined in the last month. If you haven't already done so, please feel free to introduce yourself to the wider group by sharing a bit about your background, your work, and what brings you to PeDAGoG. This network functions best when its members connect with each other, and that means asking questions, initiating discussions, and sharing ideas. At the beginning of each month, I send out an email for "open discussion and updates" to invite everyone to share something with the group. You can reply directly here or start a new thread. Anything and everything relating to post-development and pedagogy is most welcome: learning experiences, teaching materials, tools, perspectives, etc. As always, our humble shared doc is available for everyone to use to (1) learn about others in the PeDAGoG network and (2) to share information and materials with others. Best, Brandon
