! in evil
by Tordek 20 Oct '11

20 Oct '11

I recently wanted to use !rev to process some lines. Is this going to be supported by evil, or should I look at more Emacs-like ways of doing this kind of stuff? -- Guillermo O. «Tordek» Freschi. Programador, Escritor, Genio Maligno. http://tordek.com.ar :: http://twitter.com/tordek

csw deletes existing whitespace that surrounds a word
by Christoph LANGE 19 Oct '11

19 Oct '11

Dear all, here is a bug report for evil and evil-surround in their (hopefully!) latest versions: evil: commit 786bc73908bc7d9c8e998c9d719ee6ecf3475e15 Author: Vegard Øye <vegard_oye(a)hotmail.com> Date: Wed Oct 19 14:24:19 2011 +0200 evil-surround: commit d911f1eb70aa1071ae0f2bcce60cd9369a43d556 Merge: e4e592e c43dfec Author: Tim Harper <timcharper(a)gmail.com> Date: Mon Sep 5 08:35:54 2011 -0700 I have the following text, where <> denotes the cursor position: > Here is an e<x>ample: I would like to surround the word "example" with "*", so I enter (in normal mode) "csw*". Result in vim: > Here is an <*>example*: Result in evil with evil-surround: > Here is an<*>example*: Interestingly, the space before "example" is already deleted after entering "csw", i.e. while evil still waits for me to enter the "*". When there is a whitespace after the word to be surrounded, it's _that_ whitespace that is lost. For example, > Here is an e<x>ample for something: turns into > Here is an <*>example*for something: Cheers, and thanks in advance, Christoph -- Christoph Lange, http://www.facebook.com/ch.lange, Skype duke4701

Incorrect behaviour of cat etc text objects in evil
by Neeraj Sharma 19 Oct '11

19 Oct '11

I am not sure if this is still the right place to report issues. Please let me know if there is some sort of issue tracker etc. used by evil. I found that on a simple html as below if cursor is placed in anchor tag and you do "cat" or "dat" or "cit" or "dit" it does not work correctly. <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" xml:lang="en" lang="en"> <head> </head> <body> <a href="http://www.google.com"> *[cursor]* Google</a> </body> </html> For example when I do cat the end result is <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" xml:lang="en" lang="en"> <head> </head> </body> </html> while I think the expected result is <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" xml:lang="en" lang="en"> <head> </head> <body> </body> </html> Thanks & Regards, Neeraj Sharma

possible bug (or my mistake ;-)
by damien.thiriet77 18 Oct '11

18 Oct '11

Hello, I have discovered yesterday evil. I will know be able to benefit both auctex power and vim ergonomy. Since I never tried Viper nor Vimproved, I prefer starting with evil but got some trouble with remapping keys in order to feet to my own version of bépo (french dvorak). Here is a piece of my .emacs: (require 'evil) (evil-mode 1) ;adaptation des touches à mon bépo (define-key evil-normal-state-map "h" 'evil-change) (define-key evil-normal-state-map "H" 'evil-change-line) (define-key evil-normal-state-map "T" 'evil-join) (define-key evil-normal-state-map "l" 'evil-replace) (define-key evil-normal-state-map "L" 'evil-replace-state) (define-key evil-normal-state-map "k" 'evil-substitute) (define-key evil-normal-state-map "K" 'evil-change-whole-line) (define-key evil-motion-state-map "b" 'evil-beginning-of-line) (define-key evil-motion-state-map "é" 'evil-end-of-line) (define-key evil-motion-state-map "è" 'evil-backward-word-begin) (define-key evil-motion-state-map "È" 'evil-backward-WORD-begin) (define-key evil-motion-state-map "c" 'evil-backward-char) (define-key evil-motion-state-map "C" 'evil-window-top) (define-key evil-motion-state-map "t" 'evil-next-line) (define-key evil-motion-state-map "s" 'evil-previous-line) (define-key evil-motion-state-map "r" 'evil-forward-char) (define-key evil-motion-state-map "R" 'evil-window-bottom) (define-key evil-motion-state-map "j" 'evil-find-char-to) (define-key evil-motion-state-map "J" 'evil-find-char-to-backward) ;;; untree: dépendance d’evil----------------------------------------- (require 'undo-tree) ;;if you want replace the standard Emacs' undo system with the undo-tree-mode, uncomment the next line (global-undo-tree-mode) the trouble is that some remapping work, others don't: for instance c, s and r are still acting as change, substitute and replace instead of left, up and right (t does down). h, k i l are remaped as as change, substitute and replace. This is kind astonishing. Did I do something wrong or is it an issue with evil-forward-char and so on? Thanks for your great job, Damien Thiriet PS: I couldn’t check if this mail is plain text or html, please tell me if there are some troubles with coding Une messagerie gratuite, garantie à vie et des services en plus, ça vous tente ? Putting Evil in GNU ELPA
by Stefan Monnier 14 Oct '11

I think it would be good to include Evil in the GNU ELPA archive. Is there interest in doing so on the part of the maintainers? Stefan

Re: evil-surround and evil-leader are available through el-get
by Natan Yellin 14 Oct '11

14 Oct '11

Hi Michael, Sorry about that. I packaged evil-leader for my own convenience and decided to share it afterwards. The el-get recipe just downloads evil-leader from your github repository. I'll package evil-numbers too. Natan -- blog: http://natanyellin.com <http://natanyellin.com/>twitter: @aantn <http://twitter.com/aantn>

1 M-! doesn’t work
by Nikolai Weibull 12 Oct '11

It seems that 1 M-! doesn’t work in Evil. Neither does C-u M-!, nor M-1 M-!. Using 1 M-x shell-command works, though.

by Natan Yellin 11 Oct '11

What is the difference between these two lines? (define-key evil-normal-state-map ",b" 'ido-switch-buffer) (evil-define-key 'normal ",b" 'ido-switch-buffer) I'm not subscribed to the list, so please CC me. evil-surround no longer works
by Christoph LANGE 07 Oct '11

07 Oct '11

Hi Tim, hi all, I'm using evil in this version … commit 838bbb7710ccaef6d37414d08321846bb865a3de Author: Frank Fischer <frank.fischer(a)mathematik.tu-chemnitz.de> Date: Tue Oct 4 11:25:29 2011 +0200 … and evil-surround in that version: commit 852a7bae1289f9f503410e0a4d8467b289b8b1c1 Author: Tim Harper <timcharper(a)gmail.com> Date: Sat Aug 13 09:22:32 2011 -0600 When surround-mode is enabled, the relevant keyboard combinations are dead. E.g. suppose the situation [ | ] where | denotes the point. The following keyboard combinations don't do anything: ds] – ds waits for one character but doesn't do anything after reading ] cs]} – cs also just waits for _one_ character, which is strange, and then } behaves as if I had entered it in normal mode, i.e. it executes evil-forward-paragraph. This behavior seems to be independent from whether there are actually surrounding brackets. Cheers, Christoph -- Christoph Lange, http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Benutzer:Langec, Skype duke4701
