Bug: extra character selected by triple-click
by Huy 15 Jun '11

15 Jun '11

Hello, I get different behaviors when triple-mouse-clicking on a line of text. - in gvim, the line is highlighted and the cursor is put on the character closest to the mouse click point. - when in emacs-mode, the line is highlighted and the cursor is put on the first character of the next line. - when in vimpulse-mode, the "line PLUS the first character of the next line" are highlighted and the cursor is put on the first character of the next line. Vimpulse's bug is bad because if you then hit 'x', you will see that the first character of the next line is deleted as well as the the triple-clicked line. This also causes problems in org-mode when I select multiple lines and, for example, try to do things like convert between headline and list. Thanks for looking into this and awesome work guys! I love vimpulse. Huy

I love vimpulse. > Huy Another possibly-related bug. If I do visual-mode by hitting 'V', vimpulse models gvim and keeps the cursor on the current line. However, this is very different from emacs. As I said in the previous bug report, emacs puts the cursor on the *next* line. Vimpulse should do as emacs does. Otherwise, you get unexpected behavior. For example, in org-mode, if you select a line with a list item using 'V' and then do 'C-c *' to convert into a headline, a mysterious blank line appears, which doesn't happen in emacs mode when I triple-mouse-click that line. The difference seems to lie in where the cursor is placed after highlighting an entire line. So even though it's nice that 'V' currently looks like gvim, the semantics should not change from emacs, even if that means we lose the ability to look like gvim. Huy

open & edit current buffer in gvim
by Isaac Xin Pei 28 May '11

Hello everyone, here is a function that I am using to open the current buffer in gvim for editing. It's no ideal, would need your help/suggestion to make the following happen: 1. gvim starts without loading my color theme and vimrc settings - even though I tried to supply the -u option (where the concat ...), but it result in an error 2. how to inform emacs to reopen this file once editing is done in gvim, I tried several ways, but no succes thanks a lot! - Isaac -- lisp code -- (defun gvim-current-buffer () "Open current buffer file in gvim, after editing, reopen in emacs" (let ( (gvim-program "C:/Program Files (x86)/Vim/vim73/gvim.exe") (gvim-file-name (buffer-file-name (current-buffer))) ; (gvim-file-name-and-options (concat "-u " (buffer-file-name (current- buffer))) ) result) (if gvim-file-name (progn (kill-buffer (current-buffer) ) (setq result (start-process gvim-program nil gvim-program gvim-file- name))) (error "Current buffer doesn't point to a file yet")) (unless result (find-file gvim-file-name)))

visual-mode with input-method
by grim 24 May '11

24 May '11

When enabled, input-method breaks visual-mode: e.g. instead of vi-movements self-insert occurs. Quick workaround: adding ((eq new-state 'visual-state) (viper-set-input-method nil)) to viper-change-state (in last condition-statement).

Add mappings to what-cursor-position for ga and g8
by Nikolai Weibull 24 May '11

24 May '11

Hi! So I did another small merge request: https://gitorious.org/evil/evil/merge_requests/2 It adds mappings to what-cursor-position for ga and g8. These commands are different in Vim, and perhaps g8 should run what-cursor-position with a numeric argument. What do you think? I don’t really know what to think of merge requests. It doesn’t feel like they’re a lot easier to do than using format-patch. And you don’t easily get the same discussion around them that you would on the mailing list.

[TENTATIVE PATCH] Digraph implementation for Evil
by Nikolai Weibull 23 May '11

23 May '11

Hi! So I have an implementation of RFC1345 digraphs that I’ve been using with viper/vimpulse. I would like to donate it to Evil and figured I might as well write the integration patch as well. There does, however, not seem to be any insert mode commands yet, so I don’t have an example to follow. If this is something that’s coming, then I can wait. If I have, however, failed to read the source properly, could someone please point me in the right direction? Thanks!

Cannot move point in visual mode
by York Zhao 20 May '11

20 May '11

In a C++ source file: 1. Place the point at the end of a function. 2. 'V' to enter visual line mode. 3. Press 'C-M-a' (c-beginning-of-defun &optional ARG) to move to the beginning of the function and the point doesn't move. York
