<backspace> not bound properly in haskell-mode
by Keshav Kini 25 Jul '14

When I have a .hs file open in a buffer (i.e. with haskell-mode activated), it seems that typing <backspace> in <N> state actually deletes characters. Investigating a bit, I see that in other modes - such as message-mode, in which I'm typing this email - doing describe-key on <backspace> yields the following: DEL (translated from <backspace>) runs the command evil-backward-char, which is an interactive compiled Lisp function in `evil-commands.el'. In haskell-mode, however, I get: <backspace> runs the command haskell-indentation-delete-backward-char, which is an interactive compiled Lisp function in `haskell-indentation.el'. The difference I notice is that in the first, we have "DEL (translated from <backspace>)", but in the second, just "<backspace>". From this I gather that evil-mode probably traps the key DEL, but not the key <backspace>. Should evil-mode perhaps trap <backspace> directly as well as DEL? Or is this a bug in haskell-mode, i.e. should haskell-mode be trapping DEL instead of <backspace>? -Keshav

Best way to extend parenthesis matching in EVIL to other symbols
by gordon Gustafson 24 Nov '13

I want to extend Evil's % command to work with matching $'s and delimiters like \left and \right (this is for working with latex). Would I need to modify the source for evil-jump-item directly, or is there some more modular way to do this, like advising the function? I'm Elisp savvy, so a high-level description is all I need. Thanks you for you time, Gordon Gustafson PS I sincerely apologize if I'm posting this is the wrong place :)

(Evil) Unimplemented ex command (marks)
by Óscar Fuentes 05 Oct '13

When I type :marks Evil shows Unknown command: `marks' but evil-maps.el contains (evil-ex-define-cmd "marks" 'evil-show-marks) evil-show-maps is not defined anywhere. Why? I can think of three possible answers: 1. Nobody cares. Vim users can remember all their markers. 2. It is useful, but difficult to implement. 3. None of the above. Patches welcome :-) Of course, the answer might be something else. My interest on `marks' was prompted by someone publishing an extension for Emacs that, after a customizable delay, pops up a list of defined registers when you invoke a register-related command. I'll like to do the same for Evil's registers and markers.
