[implementations-list] issue with viper-escape-to-emacs
by Fabian Braennstroem 25 Apr '11

25 Apr '11

Hello, with the new vimpulse, I have a problem escaping back to emacs mode. I need this option to run some traditional 'M-x' functions. Up to now I used: (define-key viper-vi-global-user-map (kbd "\\\\") 'viper-escape-to-emacs) Unfortunately, this does not work anymore, as using M(Esc) for the next command cancels this escape and inserts the second of the backslash into the buffer... Would be nice, if you have a hint! Regards! Fabian

Assembla ticket creation requires administrative privileges?
by Štěpán Němec 05 Jul '10

Some evidence suggests that the Assembla bug reporting procedure recommended in multiple Vimpulsy places is actually only available to project members. I quote here the relevant part of today's discussion on the Vimpulse Emacs Wiki page (<http://www.emacswiki.org/emacs?action=browse;id=Vimpulse>): ===START-QUOTE=== I am logged in (as alexey_r), but can’t create a ticket there: > 403 Forbidden (TICKET_CREATE privileges are required to perform this operation) Anyway, the ticket I wanted to create is an enhancement request to add hlsearch. One possible solution can be found at http://r4yner.wordpress.com /2008/09/19/hlsearch-for-emacs/ [N.B. the above is by Alexey] Well, the interface seems to suck somehow (I didn’t investigate): when I tried to create a ticket, a login dialog popped up, and when I entered the same login information as with my Assembla account, I could create a ticket (i.e., you have to kinda log in twice). Does that not work for you either (I’m a project member, so maybe I have some extra privileges, no idea)? [...] [N.B. the above is by me] No, it doesn’t work. It seems you do have to be a member to create a ticket. – AlexeyRomanov ===END-QUOTE=== Vegard, do you have any idea? I guess I could read some of the documentation on the Assembla site and try to figure it out, but I'm a bit Traco- and unknown-wiki-system-and-Assembla-in-general- phobic and IIRC you seemed to like it, so I'm still hoping you could shed some light on the issue. Alexey, do I understand correctly that you did get the login dialog in the browser when trying to create a new ticket, but when you entered your Assembla login and password there, you got some error? [Vimpulse] Strnge behavior in Info (and probably other modes)
by Alessandro Piras 05 Jul '10

05 Jul '10

When I M-x info, I get the full viper bindings. However, after a random amount of time, or maybe after I do some other stuff (like running gnus on another frame it seems) the nice vimpulse bindings get loaded. I don't really get what's going on, and I don't really know what do I do to trigger the loading. This time it was gnus, but I think other times it has been something else, maybe org-agenda. Do you have any idea what's going on? __ Alessandro

hlsearch in Vimpulse
by Alexey Romanov 05 Jul '10

05 Jul '10

Hello! First, I really need to say that Vimpulse is great. Text objects were the first thing I've tried to use in Viper and was disappointed in their absence. Would it be possible to include Vimpulse as part of Viper at some later date? Second, as I've mentioned on the EmacsWiki page, hlsearch would be nice to have. One possible way to add it is described at http://r4yner.wordpress.com/2008/09/19/hlsearch-for-emacs/. Perhaps, even if it shouldn't be added as a part of Vimpulse, it could be added to the Tips&Tricks page? Yours, Alexey Romanov

Sure, feel free to fill in their add form. But if you want Gmane to import the archives, don't fill in the add form; ask us to do it instead. Note that this might require more steps than a usual Gmane archives import, as ourproject.org is the list host, so we might have to ask them for a tarball of the archives. > Any objections/ideas? > > In any case, please could the mailing list maintainership be transferred > or extended to Vegard? If Jason is the only maintainer (or not?), I'm > guessing we're going to wait for his reply for about a month. Alessandro and I are the list co-admins. If Vegard wants to take over list co-adminship from Alessandro, that's fine with me; in fact, I think it's a good idea, since I have so little time for Vimpulse-related tasks. I suggest that he phone me at +1 (416) 992-3445 between 11AM and 11PM Eastern Standard Time (Toronto time) to set a password. Štěpán, if Vegard doesn't reply within two weeks, you can be my list co-admin instead. Phone me. Mailman requires that all list co-admins must know one shared password. I don't like that but don't want to bother writing to the Mailman folks. -- Jason Spiro: software/web developer, packager, trainer, IT consultant. I support Linux, UNIX, Windows, and more. [Vimpulse] Bug: `q' and slime
by Alessandro Piras 13 Jun '10

13 Jun '10

q doesn't close slime documentation windows: example: in a lisp buffer, with point over a function name, hit C-c C-d C-f to get the function description, put the cursor on that window, and hit q.

I forward the conversation i had with the author of nxhtml (and emacsw32). Alessandro Piras ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Lennart Borgman <lennart.borgman(a)gmail.com> Date: 8 June 2010 22:48 Subject: Re: [Alessandro Piras] Re: [Vimpulse] Strnge behavior in Info (and probably other modes) To: Alessandro Piras <laynor(a)gmail.com> Hi Alessandro, Unfortunately I see there are a lot of problems in the implementation of vimpulse.el. The problem here is that they seem to treat local variables badly in several ways. I would suggest that they look over it and try to avoid making local variables for variables that are supposed to be global. Maybe it can be worked around but that would just make useless effort. Also a lot of things are changed when just loading the file vimpulse.el. Loading a library file should not change anything in normal cases. Otherwise I think the idea of something like vimpulse is nice (but I wonder if it perhaps would be better to work on the new vi mode instead and implement vimpulse there). The design of Viper is unfortunately a bit old and the new features in Emacs could make it much better. At least this is what the current mainainer says. (I use viper myself all the time yet.) [Vimpulse] Bug: Visual selection and W at the end of the line
by Alessandro Piras 04 Jun '10

04 Jun '10

there are some problems with visual selection and W (and maybe other motions that go past the end of the line). Two examples: `|' represents the cursor. ----BoB ---- asdf asdf asdf |asdf asdf asdf asdf asdf ----EoB ---- vW~ ----BoB ---- asdf asdf asdf |ASDF Asdf asdf asdf asdf ----EoB ---- the A on the second line shouldn't be affected, but it is.

[Vimpulse] Bug: `.' doesn't work right with the `r' command
by Alessandro Piras 04 Jun '10

04 Jun '10

Issuing `.' after a `r' command waits for a key to be pressed, e.g. issuing `rx', moving and issuing `.' won't replace the char under the cursor with 'x', but will wait for the user to type another character.
